After greeting two guards and having the rules of the Safari Zone explained to her, Nina received thirty Safari Balls, some bait, and some rocks, and was ready to go. She took a breath, and stepped into the Zone.
"Holy crap," Nina whispered, looking around at her environment in awe. This was, aside from the borders that were placed around it, a completely undisturbed section of the Pokemon world. She didn't see many Pokemon running around initially, save for some Nidorans of the male variety. She entered the tall grass and looked around, anxious and excited of what she would find.

Kasiya said nothing, but reached out and took her pendant from Surge, holding it in her hands. "I see," she said, unsure of what to think. "So Team Rocket has Kanto's Relic, then."
"Yeah, afraid so." They were both very quiet, before Surge spoke up again to break the silence. "Kasiya, I know what you're thinking," he said, suddenly, the gruffness in his voice returning fully. "Don't you dare go after them, understand?"
Kasiya nodded. "Don't worry, I don't plan on chasing after them." Yet, she thought. She checked her watch, noting that it was starting to get late. "I guess I should head home and rest for the night. I've been wanting to get to Fuchsia City to challenge Master Koga, but stuff keeps happening." She sighed, thinking of her sidetrips to Hoenn, various rescue missions involving her friends, and now this. "I've also been thinking about taking Flash with me for a while, to get him some experience. With my Rainbow Badge, he should listen to me now." The Jolteon looked up at her, surprised. So that was the reason she seemed different. "When are they going to let you out of the hospital?"
"They want me to stay overnight for observations, but I'm going home tomorrow." He glanced over at the Jolteon. "We've done some training since you left him at the gym, but he's still got a ways to go. I'll tell you what," he said, pointing over to his jacket that had been flung into a nearby chair. "Take the keys to the gym, use the rest of the evening to get some training in. Oh, you should stop by your house and say hello to your mother, after all the crap in Saffron, she'd like you know that you're not dead."
"All right," Kasiya nodded, taking the keys from her father's jacket pocket, as well as Flash's Pokeball. "Rest up, okay? And I'll see you tomorrow." She leaned over and gave him a gentle hug, which was returned. She then beckoned to Flash, and the duo headed out of the hospital, making their way towards Kasiya's house.

Kilik took a step into the Azelea Town Gym, his hand shoved in his pocket. Although he wanted to challenge Bugsy using his weaker Pokemon, there was no harm in making short work of his underlings. A pair of young girls ran up to him. "Bugsy told us to challenge newcomers!" they laughed together. Kilik raised an eyebrow at them.
"A double-battle with us and you can move on, yeah?" It was as if Kilik were surrounded by speakers, because the girls were talking in surround sound. He scratched the back of his neck.
Thank goodness it's not 5.1... he thought.
"So, we'll send out Ledyba and Spinarak!" At this command, two Pokeballs were tossed into the air. From them were a ladybug and a green spider. Both of these Bug-type Pokemon had been seen in the Ilex Forest while Kilik was moving through it. The boy didn't move. "Why're standing there? Send out two Pokemon!" A smirk appeared on Kilik's lips.
"Let's make it interesting," he stated, "Two trainers against one? So. Let's make it two Pokemon against one." He looked at them and leaned his head back, looking down at the girls. "Fair?"
The two looked at each other and then back at Kilik, "Fine, then! Just battle!" Kilik was growing a bit tired of their surround-sound speech. He pulled a ball from his belt and tossed it up.
"Then let's play, ladies!" he caught the ball on its decent from releasing the Pokemon concealed inside. The figure of his partner was kneeling on the grass that was the Gym's floor. A shower of sparkles brought in the reign of his selection. The figure stood up slowly and lifted its head to stare down at the Ledyba and Spinarak, much like Kilik had done to the two girls. There was a sharp clang as two metal pincers clamped shut.
"Sciiizoooor..."

He didn't understand, the guy was like a tank. Even with his speed he barely scratched him. "I'm not giving up!" Felsic reared up, smoke flowing from his pores. As he unleashed his smokescreen, he ran around in circles to help disperse it evenly throughout the area.
Mike coughed, raising his shirt to cover his mouth. "Xanthos! Aerial Ace always hits, even in smoky situations such as this!" He hated giving advice against the little guy, but he couldn't be one sided and cater only to the Quilava.
The dark Pokemon slashed his claw forward, a sharp wind cutting through the smog and slashing Felsic on the side. Xanthos' high attack power caused a nice cut in the fire Pokemon's side.
"Felsic, Xanthos doesn't have very high special defense, use Flamethrower!" Mike ordered, hoping it would work.
"Gladly!" The Quilava leaned back, expelling a high powered Flamethrower towards Xanthos. The smoke dispersed as the flames rushed forth.
Xanthos' eyes shone blue, his claws smashing against the ground. He thrust them up, cracks forming in the ground. Out from the fissures came a tidal wave of water. It rose up, churning the very ground beneath it as the wave headed straight for the overshadowed Quilava.

Kasiya had recalled Flash into his Pokeball, and she soon arrived home, only to be nearly smothered to death by her very relieved mother, Mya. She was also forced to sit and have a cup of tea, and was greeted by her Larvitar, Adamantine, who looked a lot larger than the last time Kasiya had seen her. After all tales had been told, Kasiya managed to convince her mother to let her take Ada with her, and soon the girl, now carrying eight Pokemon with her and feeling very excited about the training she could get done with the entirety of Vermilion Gym at her disposal. First, however, the girl ventured to the Pokemon Center, and accessed the PC tucked away in the corner. She decided to send Seto back to Professor Oak, seeing as how the Persian liked it there at the laboratory. After a few moments of hesitation, she also decided to send Shocker there for a few days as well. After all, she had promised the Raichu a few days' vacation for all her efforts.
She'd almost arrived at the gym, but the Poke Mart caught her eye. She had some money saved up, and she smiled to herself as she parked her bike outside and went in. She exchanged greetings with the shopkeeper, and went towards the TM section automatically. She sorted through them, and smiled to herself when she found 3. Doing the math in her head, she also walked over to the section where they kept healing items. She picked up two Potions and two Antidotes, deciding it would be good to have them just in case. She made her way back to the counter, and paid for her purchases, her wallet feeling significantly lighter after spending $7,800. She placed her shopping bag on the handlebars of her bike, and continued riding to the gym.

Kilik smirked as the two smaller Pokemon scuttled back in fear. It was as if Scizor's ability was Intimidate, because the Ledyba and Spinarak were scared senseless. The girls gasped. "He uses the evolution of Bugsy's strongest partner!" they said together. Kilik shook his head.
"Does it matter?" he ran a hand through his hair, "Show those two worms what being a Bug Pokemon is all about!" She crouched down and dashed forward, flapping her wings very quickly. A full-fledged Wing Attack was now being aimed directly at the two smaller Pokemon.
"Oh no! He's going to hurt Ledy and Spina!" the girls cried out in unison. Neither of the Pokemon were fast enough to avoid getting slammed with her two wings, dealing a very strong and very Super Effective hit into both of them. With two small thumps into the grass, the Scizor stood boldly in front of the two little girls. Both Ledyba and Spinarak lay unconcious in the grass. Before anymore damage was dealt, Kilik lifted the Parkball to recall his power house of a Pokemon. "The Gym Leader will see you now..." Kilik nodded and walked in between them as they cared for their Pokemon.
In the center of the Gym was an assortment of trees set up in a circle. He took the left path, although it didn't really matter. Both paths met at the top of the circle, which was broken by a pair of missing trees. He stood in the gap. "Bugsy!" he called out.

"There Metapod, you look all nice and shiny. He stood up, wiping a bit of sweat from his forehead. He looked at his Pokemon and smiled, the Metapod looked pretty happy to be all tidy as well. The young boy heard a voice call his name, none he recognized. "It probably won't last for very long though." He sighed, shrugging sheepishly. Turning to face the challenger, he looked the boy up and down. Tall. He thought. "Yeah? You looking for a challenge?" The boy remarked, holding his hands on his hips. "I may not look it but I am the Gym Leader of Azelea Town. Bugsy is the name, Bug Pokemon are my game." The little boy stepped forward, looking up at the boy. "You look like you'll be fun."

Nina searched around in the grass for a while, but after finding nothing of interest to her in the first area, she moved on to the next. She spotted an odd, large, brown Pokemon in the distance; moving closer, she covered her mouth with her hands to silence a gasp of excitement. Oh my gosh! she whispered to Anna, sounding like a schoolgirl, what Pokemon is that?
"That big one over there?" Anna asked, her voice soft. "I'm pretty sure that's a Kangaskhan. They carry their baby around in their pouch all the time, even when it's time for them to go to sleep. They're somewhat rare, and they're pretty strong Pokemon for being Normal-types."
Nina grinned widely. Awesome! she whispered, reaching into the bag that the guards provided her with, to carry her bait, Safari Balls, and rocks in. Pulling out some of the bait, she took aim and threw it at the Kangaskhan. The Pokemon looked a bit confused as to where the food had come from, but it waddled over to eat it anyway.
That's it, Nina thought, be a good girl, now...

He nodded. "Why else would I be here?" he asked plainly and flatly. He snatched up Elekid's Pokeball from his belt and pressed the button to enlarge it into his palm. "I'm Kilik, from Verdanturf Town. I'm aspiring to become a Gym Leader." He tossed the ball into the air and caught it upon its return. Elekid was ready and raring to fight. Kilik placed a hand into the pockets of his jeans.
"Plus, I was a ranking officer of Team Rocket. That should make this battle plenty fun."
Elekid scratched behind one of its plugs, waiting for Bugsy to release his Pokemon.

Someone's on his high horse... The boy thought. "You're too serious, you should lighten up!" He pointed to his Metapod, the bug Pokemon hopping over to the fighting zone. "Let's start this off with Harden!" Metapod shone a bright color, solidifying it's shell, adding a nice metallic sheen.

Kasiya folded her bike and place it back where it belonged, looking with amusement at the newly repaired gym door. "Those guys work fast," she said, reaching into her vest pocket for the gym's keys. The shopping bag around her wrist crinkled noisily as she found the right one, and inserted it into the lock. The door opened easily, and she stepped into the gym, breathing in its familiar air. "Feels like home," she said quietly, surprised at how well her voice echoed throughout the building. She walked through the puzzle room, now without fear of tripping over any of the trashcans, for they had been put away as she found the panel that controlled the lighting in the area. She flipped the master switch, and the room became brightly illuminated. Glancing around at the empty area, Kasiya was amazed to see how small it seemed without the rows and rows of trashcans to dig through. She walked up the stairs that led to the room where Surge normally waited for his challengers to meet him, and put down her belongings on a nearby table. She turned, facing the arena, and felt a rush of energy as she relived her battle with her father.
"Shocker was amazing," she said to herself, obviously, for she was the only one in the gym. "It was such a good battle." She sorted through a few more happy memories before she plopped down on Surge's golden throne. It felt strange to be there, all by herself. She smiled, and stood up, placing her hands on her hips. "Welcome, challenger, to Vermilion Gym. I'm impressed you made it this far. But if you want my Thunder Badge, you're going to have to earn it." Then, she fell back into the golden chair in a fit of giggles.

Kilik's hand twitched slightly. Gym Battles aren't supposed to be fun, he thought. "Elekid! Attack with Thunderpunch!" At this command, Elekid slammed its petit fists together and dashed forward, his left fist crackling with electricity.

"Metapod, Tackle!" Bugsy ordered, the Elekid charging fast. The cocoon Pokemon lunged forward, ready to meet the electric Pokemon with full force.

Metapod was struck with the electric move, it's body coursing with static. "Metapod, keep Tackling!" Bugsy ordered. He wasn't a fan of the challenger, he didn't seem too nice. "Show him what you're made of!" After a bit of difficulty in regaining its upright position, the Bug Pokemon lunged forward again, throwing all its weight at the Elekid's legs.
