What's that tiny little tank going to do, anyway?
Seeing as this tiny little tank is a moving bomb capable of taking out heavy armoured battle tanks, maybe, just maybe I'll use it as a cheap last ditch AT weapon or as a surprise for enemy fortifications and commanders.

You'd be pretty miffed it your pretty shiny Land Raider was taken out by a remote controlled demolition device costing only 10% of that.

However, I tend to look at the coolness of a model instead of the true effectiveness or use above all. I do things for the fragging FLUFF. Plus the Cyclops is supposed to be operated by a single Guardsman, so this is a great hobby opportunity for me to build a custom operator.

How do you use YOUR imperial guard infantry men?

1. as a speed bump, let the tanks do the talking.

2. as an unstobale tide of lazfire and raw manpower. (conscripts FtW)

3. as a gun line, every shot counts.

4. with as few men as possbile (fully upgraded units)

5. any thing else?

- I only use my Conscript platoon as a speed bump, they have the numbers to do so in the first place. They are also most excellent for holding objectives and table quarters. But keep in mind, that Dreadnought may only have three or so attacks, but with thirty men to beat himself through, he's stuck for the time being.

- I use my men as a part gun line, part mass advance to get that objective, to me EVERY MAN counts, I hate it when people waste away squads so easily by calling them fodder or meat shields, those piece of s**t commanders! stressed

- Whether or not you use a lot of upgrades depends on the player and the preferred style of play / army fluff. Adeptus Mechanicus armies are by nature fully upgraded and kitted out, but my Cadians have the bare minimum of upgrades, most squads just pack an assault and heavy weapon, they never needed more in my experience. Even the command squads are minimal in their equipment really, taking only the bare essentials.

I see my Guard squads as huge heavy weapon teams. Every squad is given a heavy weapon and their primary objective is to keep it firing by taking bullets for the heavy weapons specialist.

Then once they're in assualt they are a distrsaction that keeps the nasty chainswords facing their way so the Officers can tear through the nasties with the power weapons.

My tanks are about all I have in it, my troopers are so few and far between that they would stand as a single speed bump

Lt. Brookman
Okay, you win Xenos Mortium, I'm also getting a Vanquisher, might as well get that over with now, a good tank killer is always welcome.
Jahaha! Xenos wins again!

I've already told you how I have my Exerminator set up, so I have that and the Vanquisher, each specialized to a certain task, which they both excell at. So far my Vanquisher has killed Rhinos, Falcons, Land Raiders, Dreadnaughts, Chimeras, and ect. As soon as I start seeing different kinds of vehicles, I'll start killing them. pirate

And another note, I've successfully pulled off having Chimeras on both sides of my army, and making effort to win the flanks and surround my opponent. Didn't quite have the time to follow through, but the tactic was working pretty well.

Oh, and I just used my Thudd Guns for the first time today. In two turns, I think I killed about a dozen or so Gaunts and at least eight Genestealers. Those guns are vicious.

My Vanquisher will most likely be a tank eater with some transports on the side.

Goody, maybe once they release Cadian artillery crew I'll also give the good ol' Thudd guns a try.

My space marines could make short work of any imperial guard army.

1 commander with 10man command squad
1 terminator chaplain with terminator command squad

2 terminator squads
1 dreadnought with assault cannon and a powerfist

2 devastor squads
1 whirlwind

4 tatical squads
2 scout squads

3 assault squads

How will you weakling guardsman deal with that?
Hail The Emperor! scream

I forgot what my armys full points value is gonk
i'm usually playing 5oo point games

but with some good strategy i'm willing to bet a imperial guard army could at the very least be a huge pain in the a**. (remebers a friends 1000 point game of imperial guard vs tryanids)

How do you manage to put that many units on the field with only 500 points? If you perhaps meant 2500 points, or 3500 points, I could understand, but for 500 points you can probably only field a HQ choice and two Troops choices. confused

sorry, what i meant was that i use a few pieces of my army in 500 point games. the last full army battle i had was a psychotic 2 hour blood bath. (khorne was happy)

and i would like to say that while i don't use imperial guard, i think they're cool. the only army i truly hate is the witch hunters (just because i do)

I don't often play larger than 500 points. In that I play a mobile gun line with a basilisk (yes a basilisk) for heavy fire support. Every unit is fitted with a grenade launcher, and my infantry platoons have missile launchers. Other than that officers get a power weapon and bolter and I field a commissar with the same. All command squads are combat support (I can wish) and usually end up protecting the Basilisk. I can actually say that the basilisk has never been destroyed in any combat patrol it has been fielded in smile and of course as is the artillery way it kills everything smile . Lol feel free to criticize my fielding a tank in 500 points but hey its guard what did you expect me to field? lol

You're talking about the Imperial Guard. It's hard to feel any Imperial Guard army, regardless of size, without a tank. I have three in my 1000 point army without counting my Macharius Heavy.

lol I'm glad you agree then. All the guys at my local GW think its cheap as s**t that I have an earthshaking killer one of their Marine units each turn in a 500 point game. I just say it only happens because I'm good at rolling biggrin
