"We...uhh...we....we gotta go, yeah, we gotta go" Nester stammered out in response to the unbeatable logic, obviously defeated. He nudged his brother, and both bolted off through the crowd.
"Huh...must have messed the spell up..." Xeiashi muttered to himself before turning to Alexi. "Thanks for that, really...I think they'll leave me alone now. If there's anything I could do, just say the word..." There was then an awkward silence in which she appeared to be lost in thought.
"Alexi...are you okay?" he asked, beginning to get concerned. But then she said something about Total and songs, prompting him to ask, "Where is Total anyway...Weren't the two of you inseperable?"

"Phew," Alexi said, watching the kids leave. "I think you'll be fine now."
Xei thanked the girl for her help and asked her about Total when she mentioned the song.
"Umm..." she began. "I...I actually don't know where Total is. He disappeared a few days ago and I haven't been able to find him. This song reminded me of him because it's his favorite."

"He hasn't been gone since that day at the lake, has he? ...are you sure we shouldn't send a search party or something?" Xeiashi asked. True, he had barely met the little plant...but they were sort of comrades-in-arms, what with being Ordonians and all...
[In town] "MOOOO-oooom! Nester ran to the Temple again and caused trouble!"
Mom, at this, glared at Nester.
"He's lying, we were at Harold's like I said...really!" came the reply. It managed to defuse the issue...or so he thought. Mom continued to glare.
"Were you really at Harold's, Nester?" she asked in a soft voice.
"We...uhh....y-yeah, we were, Mom."
Mom raised an eyebrow.
"We...fine, you got me, we went to the Temple..."
"Thank you...this wasn't about that boy again, was it? ...it was. Now what have I told you about possible criminals?"
"To stay away from them..."
"Exactly, you're grounded for a week. Don't give me that look, it could have been longer. And both of you are doing all the dishes this week...yes, you too Jule, you snuck out just the same as Nes...now you should get to bed, it's getting late and you don't want to scare off Santa."
'SANTA!' 'SANTA!' "Okay, g'night Mom!" both of them called as they rushed to their respective rooms and started getting ready for bed. Mom sat alone at the table for a while, lost in thought, before she did the same.
'Seems he's making due pretty well now...it would be nice if he called, though...'

"I don't think any search party would care to look," the girl said sadly. "They'd all think I'm absolutely crazy. I mean, the idea of a talking plant? It's almost laughable." She laughed slightly. "I'm really worried about him, but he's done things like this before. Running away for a few days and then coming back when he can't find any food or when he misses me too much. He's kind of a big baby."
Alexi thought a moment.
"I remember this one time," she began, "when he ran away. He came back to me a few days later covered in seaweed and begging for a hug. I opened my arms and he ran at me, smacking me in the ribs with his head, saying 'I'll never leave you again Alexi! I missed you so much!'" The girl smiled at the memory.
"I really do hope he turns up soon though."

Steff hugged Odin even more tightly, even though an even more dance-worthy song came on and she would've normally been jumping all over the place. From a distance, they looked like any other couple
"I dunno... I just feel sometimes like people don't like me," she whispered into Odin's collarbone, "Do you think it's all in my head?"

"Don't think that. Of course people like you. You have friends, right? Which is so much more than what I have. Sometimes it's just that," she paused, as if remembering something and frowned just a bit before continuing. "Sometimes people don't show you how they feel.. in the way you expect them to. Affection.. there are so many, many ways to express that."

"It's no more crazy than looking for a man in a tophat in some cave, and I heard that happened once..." Xeiashi said. Alexi continued talking and eventually settled into telling a story.
She finished, and Xei observed, "He seems like a child on the inside...I wonder if he doesn't look up to you like a mother, after all, you did find him and care for him..."
In the awkward silence that followed, he grabbed another something-or-other to nibble on, partly wondering where Total was, partly wondering how the cooks could make so much delicious food when mere weeks ago the food made people throw up.
His pondering worked, he came up with, "You said this was Total's favorite song, right? I think the Temple's been enchanted to blast sound from ...everywhere, maybe he'll hear it and be back before the night's out?"

Alexi pondered Xei's words for a moment. "You might be right," she said. "But for now, all we can do is wait, I guess."
She snickered.
"I guess I kind of am like a mother to him." She smiled at the thought.

"Okay everyone!" Mirassou said after finishing the last request, "It's time to continue the party! Everybody grab a partner!"
People in the crowd began to partner up as the band began to play. The dancing began shortly after.
A few seconds later, the waiter began to sing "Feelin' Good".
"Birds flying high, you know how I feel Sun in the sky, you know how I feel..."

Gloria looked over at the twins as they sauntered back over to her with identical smug expressions on their faces. Her eyes leapt down to their (empty) hands, and then back up accusingly into her partner's deep, brown eyes. "No booze?"
"Oh no, my darling-" he grinned, sliding an arm around her cunningly.
"-Plenty of booze," Sam continued, slipping an arm around her other shoulder.
"-Downstairs-"
"-In your bedroom-"
"-For later."
Gloria looked between the two of them incredulously. "Okay, first of all, it's incredibly creepy when you do that. Secondly," she snapped, elbowing her boyfriend in the stomach and fixing him with a basilisk-grade glare. "I thought I told you I wanted a drink NOW?!"
"Ahhh, my darling little rebel, always so ready to bend the rules," he replied, ruffling her set curls. She snarled and slapped at him like a wild animal as he messed up her 'do in the most minor way possible. "Easy, tiger! You honestly think we wouldnt get caught out here with those great big bottles of rum the Pig fobbed off on us? Nah babe, we're saving those for later. We can go downstairs and just have a little partyof our own, the three of us."
Gloria raised her eyebrow at him and looked to Sam, who was looking at his brother with a small, knowing smile on his face. She suddenly got a hint of what was going on in their sick little minds, and her lip curled into a sneer. "You know, there's a word for people like you. Twincest."
Sam, always the quieter one, never replied, merely chuckling, but Damien beamed broadly and replied with the grace and gentility of an elephant in a greenhouse. "Basically. Oi, ADELINE!" he shouted across the room. A shining blonde head turned in his direction. "YOU AND JON FANCY AN ORGY LATER?"
Jonathan turned bright red, a shocking contrast with his drab suit, but Adline, the ladylike elf, actually giggled. Before she turned nonchalantly away, Damien was sure he caught a hint of a coy smile and a wink, and he pulled himself up, impressed by her.
"Well, well. I've suddenly got the feeling there's more to Miss Priss than we know."
Gloria leaned back against the table as Sam drifted a couple of feet away, folding her arms and grumbling darkly. "Don't you start, too..."

Alexi noticed that the boy onstage was singing a new song. Many people were coupled up and dancing together. She smiled. Suddenly filled with a strong desire to dance with someone, she excused herself from Xei and headed off to find herself a dance partner.
The girl searched the crowd for a fitting young man. There was a cute brown-haired boy she wanted to ask, but as she approached another girl asked him, and he accepted. Time to start over. She looked around. There were a few people at the back of the room; two guys and a girl. The girl was wearing a red dress and she was standing next to a blonde boy who appeared to be her date, but the other guy seemed to be there alone. He was fairly good-looking; why didn't he have a date? Even stranger, the boy wore no shirt.
Maybe that explains it, Alexi thought to herself. Oh well, I'll ask him.
Alexi sauntered over to the trio. Well, sauntered would be the wrong choice of word. It was more of a stride. Alexi never sauntered, or more correctly, never had anyone to saunter for.
"Hey," she said to the boy. "Everybody's dancing out there and I noticed you were all by yourself. Wanna dance with me?"
The girl in the red dress shot a sharp look in their direction, and then Alexi heard her boyfriend cry out, winded, as she punched him hard in the stomach. She started to complain loudly in his ear - something about not being asked to dance? Whatever her problem was, the boy ignored them. Come to think of it, he and the poor abused boyfriend looked strangely similar...
The boy looked at her. "Sure," he said, holding his hand out to her. Smiling, she took it and the two strode out to the dance floor.
He put his hands on her hips, and his touch startled Alexi. Granted, she knew what slow-dancing was, she just wasn't particularly comfortable with another guy touching her hips so casually. His touch was calming and friendly. The two began to dance.
"You know, it never occurred to me to ask your name," Alexi said. "What is it?"
"I guess I should have asked yours too, my mistake," the boy responded. "Name's Sam. What's yours?"
"I'm Alexi," the girl responded. "It's nice to meet you Sam."
He was surprisingly friendly despite his outward appearance. Alexi noticed the couple he was with earlier were still fighting about something. She began to wonder how he was involved with them. But still, this boy was a good dancer, and he seemed to be enjoying dancing with her. Sure, she was uncomfortable with him touching her hips, but she didn't have the heart to tell him. Alexi kicked back and relaxed, enjoying the music, the atmosphere, and the dance.
