WhiteJoker I'll take your word on the spell mechanics of the Slayers universe, only because it's been a long time since I bothered reading up on them, and my memory is absolutely dreadful with details. I'm a total Slayers dork. I probably know more about Slayers than any other anime series that I like. I've actually considered running a Slayers RPG for some of my friends, so I've tried to find out as much as I can about the world. I can't read Japanese, but I have several friends who do, and they read the manga, so they're more than willing to point out all these little things that the anime doesn't put in, or was changed, or whatever. I agree about her spell list though, and even I don't know every spell she actually has. I still think Gourry or Luna Inverse has a better chance of beating Ranma than Lina does, but Lina does have a chance. Admittedly, I know more about Slayers than Ranma, but I do know that Ranma, at his toughest, is pretty darned formidable, regardless of what form he's in. I'm pretty sure Lina has a few tricks up her sleeves, though. I'm certainly not discounting Lina's ability. She's incredibly tough and powerful. She's definitely one of my favorite anime characters. And when push comes to shove, she can be as arrogant as Ranma. Maybe Lina has a better chance than I thought, but the deck is still stacked against her. It's nice to have an intelligent conversation about anime with someone other than Stream...I love him, but he can be a total pain in the butt sometimes...

I vaguely recall there being a Slayers RPG handbook out there somewhere, never read it though, it's probably crappy. I personally am a very boring guy, I spend my time watching anime figuring out how the mechanics and the physics of things work. I spent my time watching Gundam trying to figure out exactly how the hydrolic systems worked, and how the controls actually worked (they don't, there's no way they could get that exact functionality with five fingers with a two dimensional joystick with five/six buttons). Quote: I agree about her spell list though, and even I don't know every spell she actually has. I'm pretty sure Lina has a few tricks up her sleeves, though. Gourry as he normally is stands more of a chance then Kuno does (he's the main swordsman in the series, fairly accomplished too if you look at his fights that don't involves Ranma. Honestly, people give him too little credit because Ranma whoops his a**, but they fail to realize that Ranma whoops everybody's asses). Gourry at his full potential, with the Sword of Light, slaughters Ranma without even trying. Luna is... Luna's essentially perfect. She's brilliant, she's powerful, she's beautiful, she's the ultimate warrior of good in the Slayers universe, and everybody knows it. She's the Knight of Celphied, the most powerful living human in the Slayers universe with access to the Nightmare magics (I believe Lina finds the Giga Slave spell inside one of Luna's chests/drawers), and she's capable of causing complete and total mental trauma with only a single session of torment (as noted by Lina's abject fear of even the mention of her sister's name, a fear matched not even by her fear of slugs). If you take what's said about her as truth (and really, that's all you've got to work with), everything Lina can do, Luna does a thousand times better, look gorgeous doing it, and make it look damn easy. If there's anybody I'd ever vote for who can completely devestate Ranma in a fight without even trying, Luna's the one I'd vote for. Quote: I'm certainly not discounting Lina's ability. She's incredibly tough and powerful. She's definitely one of my favorite anime characters. And when push comes to shove, she can be as arrogant as Ranma. Mmmhmmm, but she's also shown that she can push aside her arrogance more often then Ranma can. Ranma only does when it counts, Lina does whenever she has to, and that's a major difference. Quote: Maybe Lina has a better chance than I thought, but the deck is still stacked against her. That's what happens when you fight a master of combat who just happens to be a tactical genius. I'd agree too if it were a straight up all or nothing fight, Ranma has the advantage. The problem is, all things considered, Ranma would never take this fight serious, not until it's too late. Quote: It's nice to have an intelligent conversation about anime with someone other than Stream...I love him, but he can be a total pain in the butt sometimes... Yeah, that he can. xd None the less, a pleasure, I love versus threads, and I love having somebody who can actually keep up their end of the conversation. wink

Whoosh! sweatdrop Episode 7: Creeping Evil. Involves a "higher life form" that looks exactly like a cactus. It has this freaky mind-control thing going on and starts pretty much possessing Jim. The only person not affected is Melfina, and that's because she's an android and technically doesn't have a "mind" to control. This is the one episode where she actually DOES something--she throws the potted cactus to the ground and started stomping on it in order to kill it and end the effects of the mind control. And...I just went through thirty pages of Yahoo! image search without finding a single picture of it. How lame. Trust me--it's a scary, mind-controlling cactus.

WhiteJoker I vaguely recall there being a Slayers RPG handbook out there somewhere, never read it though, it's probably crappy. There is. I haven't had the chance to read it, either. So I have no idea how good it is. WhiteJoker I personally am a very boring guy, I spend my time watching anime figuring out how the mechanics and the physics of things work. I spent my time watching Gundam trying to figure out exactly how the hydrolic systems worked, and how the controls actually worked (they don't, there's no way they could get that exact functionality with five fingers with a two dimensional joystick with five/six buttons). I like Gundam, but not that much. xd Nothing wrong with it, though. I spend most of my time watching anime and playing videogames, and reading manga. WhiteJoker Gourry as he normally is stands more of a chance then Kuno does (he's the main swordsman in the series, fairly accomplished too if you look at his fights that don't involves Ranma. Honestly, people give him too little credit because Ranma whoops his a**, but they fail to realize that Ranma whoops everybody's asses). Gourry at his full potential, with the Sword of Light, slaughters Ranma without even trying. Oh, I totally agree about Kuno. One of my friends once said that Kuno's ability is at the limit of normal peak human ability, while Ranma and the others go beyond. As for Gourry, he does actually get an even nastier sword in the manga, called the Blast Sword. It never dulls, and can cut through anything. And I do mean anything. WhiteJoker Luna's the one I'd vote for. LOL...supposedly she killed a plasma dragon with a kitchen knife. eek WhiteJoker Mmmhmmm, but she's also shown that she can push aside her arrogance more often then Ranma can. Ranma only does when it counts, Lina does whenever she has to, and that's a major difference. True. I agree about that. WhiteJoker None the less, a pleasure, I love versus threads, and I love having somebody who can actually keep up their end of the conversation. wink Why, are you flirting with me? Tsk tsk...what would Streamjumper say...? xd I can keep up mostly when it comes to Slayers, though. Most other anime I just enjoy watching, although I remember reading Journey to the West after watching Saiyuki. I myself am not a fan of vs threads, unless they make some kind of sense, or they involve anime I really, really like.

LunaInverse Oh, I totally agree about Kuno. One of my friends once said that Kuno's ability is at the limit of normal peak human ability, while Ranma and the others go beyond. Actually, Kuno's above, but not by a lot. Kuno can destroy rock with just the pressure from his attacks (he does so in the first/second episode of Ranma), that's impressive. The problem is that while he's above peak human, everybody else is at super-human. Though I do believe that he has the potential to reach the super-human level, if he wasn't designed to be a pure joke character. He does have the highest pain threshold of all the characters. Quote: As for Gourry, he does actually get an even nastier sword in the manga, called the Blast Sword. It never dulls, and can cut through anything. And I do mean anything. I still think the Sword of Light's better, it can cut through anything too, it never dulls, and it's a big glowing stick that can get bigger and stronger just by willing it. whee LunaInverse LOL...supposedly she killed a plasma dragon with a kitchen knife. eek If you take people's words for it, Luna could kill Shabranigdo with just a glare. xd LunaInverse I'll take your word on it. It's been a very long time since I've watched any Ranma, and I've read very little of the manga. I've probably forgotten more than I remember. It has to do with Ranma's personality. He considers himself the best of the best, so whenever he comes across somebody stronger, or of equal strength, he gets his a** kicked because he's not expecting it. LunaInverse Why, are you flirting with me? Tsk tsk...what would Streamjumper say...? I'm not! gonk Quote: I can keep up mostly when it comes to Slayers, though. I myself am not a fan of vs threads, unless they make some kind of sense, or they involve anime I really, really like. I don't mind versus threads, I just post in them because I know how the two characters being compared work, how strong they are, their capabilites, and all that jazz. And it's a lot of fun, for me, to work out all of the physics and variable abilities, translate it into a usable constant, and then work out the scenerio based on the character personalities. Very fun for me. whee

Four people [including me] forgot to do our homework and had to write a paragraph [which took us all about five minutes] on the importance of first impressions.. which would've been more serious if the teacher who made us do it wasn't our old 4th grade student-teacher. And apparently we board the bus by grade. Which they told me AFTER I was on the bus with a bunch of 3rd graders. Aide: Why are you on the bus? Me: Because I have to get home..? Aide: Are you a 3rd grader? Me: Uhm, no. Aide: 3rd graders only now! Me: ..you're blocking the door, though. Aide: Go to the back. Me: Couldn't you have let me done that in the first place? Aide: Go on, shoo! EDIT: Oh yeah. My kitty.
