Alassëa used the sound of Miyuki's voice to judge where she was, and set her hand on the girl's shoulder.

"I'm ready," she said softly. "And if you go quickly, it's all right - I have long legs, I can keep up."

Aethos wasn't exactly short, either, and she kept up with him no problem.

"Okay!" Miyuki nodded, "Let's go!"

She led Alassea back over to her mother and father.

"Where are we going today?
" she had to know this time.

"Well, we were hoping to check out some more of the shops," Earendil replied. "Since we didn't get any further than the bakery yesterday. Glad you could join us, Alassëa."

"Thank you for inviting me," the woman replied with a smile.

Earendil chuckled softly. "Of course. Now, Lin, Miyuki, do you have any requests for where to start this time? We know the bakery is good - when no one is stealing from it anyways - but there are bound to be many other good shops in a town like this."

Miyuki hummed and hawwed at this question for a moment before finally repling, "Woodsmith and metalsmith!"

Rather she wanted to see if anyone had any nice jewelery, even though Miyuki didn't want it for herself (she still hadn't remembered about the earring), she liked looking at shiny things, when she wasn't smelling wood.

"That sounds good to me," Earendil agreed. "It's always good to see those places."

He looked around, wondering which way those particular shops were, and he was slightly startled when Alassëa started tapping her way down the street in the opposite direction they had taken the day before.

"I assume they're this way," he chuckled.

Miyuki blinked in surprised as she hurried to catch up with Alassea, "Wait for us! Have you alraedy been to those shops?"

She wasn't sure if Alassea already knew about them, since it kind of depeneded on how much she remembered from living her and how much things had changed since Alassea was little.

Alassëa smiled as she continued to feel her way forward. "Not since we came here, no," she replied. "I spent yesterday with Aethos and Adar, the healer. But when I was young, I liked to spend my free time at the woodsmith's shop. It always smelled so good, and I love the feel of the wood ..."

The route to the wood smith's was a path that she knew well, and she was certain that even if she did not have her staff with her, she would be able to find it very easily.

Now that Miyuki thought of it, it made sense that Alassea would like wood just as much (if not more) than she. Since without sight, wood offer a lot more than say jewlery.

"Oh.... so you know the owner very well?"

Alassëa tilted her head thoughtfully as she continued to lead them down the street.

"Well ... perhaps once I would have said yes," she murmured. "I got to know him a bit when I was young. But it has been so long ... I don't even know if it would still be the same owner. If it is, I might know him a little bit, but not well anymore."

"What kind of work does he do?" Earendil asked curiously. "If it is the same man, I mean."

Alassëa was puzzled by that question. "Woodwork," she replied slowly, as if it was the most obvious thing ever.

"I think...." Lin replied, "What Earendil meant to ask is, what sort of woodwork does he do?"

She knew by this point there were all sorts of things that one could carve. Of course there was the usual, furniture, boxes, games and so forth, but there were always things that set others apart. For example, the woodsmith in the Eastland liked to make hidden compartments.

"Is it just carving, what type of carving, does he do inlays, does he decorate the wood in any other sort of manner, things that tend to vary from woodsmith to woodsmith."

"Ah," Alassëa murmured. "I understand. As I recall ... he does all the woodwork for the town, so ... furniture and statues and such ... and I think that his favourite decoration is flowers and ivy. Roses, I think. His work is very detailed, and he is very good at making it very smooth, almost like leather even though it is wood."

The tannery was another favourite shop of hers from her childhood.

Now that was an interesting description of the touch, Lin couldn't never imagine she had felt wood that reminded her of leather though it was very smooth.

"I see, that sounds very pretty though, flowers and ivy..."

Even if it wasn't roses, but if it was, it would be even prettier Lin could imagine.

"I must admit, I missed those scents while I was gone," Alassëa murmured, pausing and tapping around as if searching for something. She tilted her head and listened for a moment, and then, without asking any questions, she turned to the left and headed up a side street.

"Of the flowers, I mean," she went on as if she hadn't stopped. "The swamp has many things, but by way of plants, there are not so many flowers as here. There is ... um ... plants that are ... wet and ... falling apart ..."

"Rotting?" Earendil guessed.

She nodded. "Rotting. And there are animals, and there is water ... but there are not very many flowers, and even then only in late Summer and early Fading, when it is not quite so wet anymore."

"What kind of flowers does a swamp have?" MIyuki asked.

She couldn't imagine a place so boggy to have flowers, at least pretty flowers. Though as far as Miyuki knew all flowers are pretty.

Alassëa blinked slowly. "I don't know," she admitted, her pace slowing slightly. "I could never tell you what they look like, and I never had a teacher there to tell me what they were or what they could be used for. All I know is their scent - and they are nice, but not as nice as a rose."

She stopped suddenly and turned towards the others. "It should be somewhere here,' she told them. "You will have to tell me where exactly. I can't quite remember."

Not to mention things might have changed.
