A hundred is still pretty damn fast, and against a grappler, all you need to do is get out of their way, which means full speed in any direction except at them is still good enough. Remember, Lina's not a fighter, her main tactic is to get some space and then start casting like mad. She only ever pulls her sword out when dealing with obviously pathetic bandits, and that's only ever really because Gourry's right next to her taking all of the hits, and dealing out the ownage.


The question is whether or not Ranma can figure out this at the very beginning. Now, there's no set situation, but in all likeliness, Lina starts this fight because, while Ranma's perfectly content to be a total jackass to women, he doesn't hit them, so Lina gets pissed, does something. Ranma dodges, does something stupid (probably a showy thing, like running up to her and making an insult), which would showcase his speed talent. Remember, Ranma doesn't hit girls, he underestimates them like mad, and he's slow on the uptake (a fighting genius, yes, but a very slow boy he is). Lina can get in a Raywing if she fights smart, and moves out of Ranma's range to nuke him.

Of course, do recall that if she does move but not fully out of Ranma's range, she's not going to immediately start casting the DS, she'd continue with her normal tactics, regular level spellage. Which means Ranma jumps and knocks her down. Now, recall, it takes a lot to make Ranma eager to end a fight without showing off to the point where his opponent submits. Ranma fights to beat his opponent's minds, not their body (every fight he has with his rivals are almost always orchestrated to prove Ranma's superiority to their minds, the beatings are just there to show it). That is where I think this fight will bend in Lina's favour. Lina is, while not completely above the mental domination, far more eager to just knock her opponents into submission off the get go. So, it would seem, to my knowledge, that after Ranma knocks Lina out of the air the first time, he'll pause to gloat, which gives her time to move FAR out of his range, and then start the orbital nukage.




Indeed, Lina is almost as showy a fighter as Ranma, but she's slightly more practical.

I believe Shampoo's really the only girl he actually hits without substantial provocation, and that's only because he was under the impression that he'd get free food. Also recall that he really didn't hit her to hurt her, just to knock her off the log. Every other girl he's perfectly content to just dodge around her attacks, mock, maybe a weak little poke somewhere, and then he gets smacked into orbit (probably because he lets his guard down). Ranma's got a very weak record against women, he tends to lose more often then not, mostly because he just can't take them as a serious threat without substantial beating.


Ahh, I never really paid much attention to the spells usage, they tend not to explain them too much. And I also vaguely recall somebody using the Ra Tilt on the slayers cast, though I could just be mixing people up again.


Again, it's never showcased, the spells, when used, tend to have a variable effect. Of course, the varying effects tend to be shown in different episodes or chapters, so you could be right, but do recall, she does have the amulets of Mazoku blood which do count as fairly powerful amplifiers.


Well, that's the problem. Lina's pretty liberal on what is and isn't a good reason. She has nuked towns before just to get rid of minor threats, not that anybody every really dies from those, though I suspect that's just because the writer wanted to keep Slayers a very light hearted series. And also recall, the times that she does use the DS as a first strike are rarely against major threats but against bandits, or thieves, or scammers who she's got a grudge against.


Let's face it, the very first comment out of Ranma's mouth is going to be about Lina's breasts, and that's pure DS level nukage if there ever was one for Lina.

And Lina has no water spells. The best she has is an ice spell, and Ranma's not stupid enough to fall for vaporization trick.


It's in my belief that Ranma's going to start the fight with insults and be stupid enough to underestimate Lina and get his a** nuked.
