"I recently recieved word from Mao," Guan said softly. "Earlier today Arlen was attacked. I don't have all the information, but his pack was left behind and she can no longer locate him." His face remained serious as he watched Lily's reaction.

"She can't..." Lily's face drained of color, and she started to sway on her feet as she thought through possible implications of that. The teen finally had to grip the edge of the counter to keep upright, and when she turned to look at Guan, her eyes were strangely dead, and her voice was hollow; she was internalizing. "Do you think he... that he's still..." she couldn't finish that sentence, and simply watched the man.

"You would know better than I do," Guan said, his heart aching for the girl, but remaining unmoved outwardly. "You have his Verdant Flame right?"

"I don't want to check it." Lily admitted, hands trembling, as well as her ears. She was greatly shaken, and she knew that she should look down at the vial, but she didn't want to know if he was dead... she didn't want to lose hope. Finally, after long moments, she sniffled, then pulled the cord from under her shirt, peering at the vial as it was revealed.

Guan studied the flame that still burned in the vial. Though it lost much of it's shine it remained steady. Satisfied, Guan brother a sigh of relief and turned his focus back to Lily.

A few tears slipped down Lily's cheeks, but otherwise, she still seemed rather emotionally frozen. "W-we have to find him." she told Guan quietly. "Tell me where Mao lives, and I'll go try to pick up his trail with my magic."

Guan hesitated, and then stood and wrapped his arms aroudn Lily. "It's not that simple," he said softly to her. "If they can block Mao's Eye of Flame then it's safe to reason they can stop you from tracking him as well."

"But I can't just sit here." Lily told Guan softly, squeezing her eyes shut. "He's missing, and I'm just standing here not trying to find him, and someone could be hurting him and..." suddenly, her words broke off, and she let out a heartbroken keen, practically collapsing against the older man, ears completely limp with distress, entire body trembling.

Lily made several more keening sounds, trying not to cry. Finally, she got some semblance of control again, and she spoke, though her face was still hidden in his shoulder. "What am I suppose to do?" she whispered, sounding completely lost.

Realizing he was probably uncomfortable, Lily pulled back, wrapping her arms around herself, head hanging. "N-no. Not really." she whispered. "Who tells it doesn't make a difference."

"She probably would have handled it better," Guan said, looking towards the door as if wishing she would walk through at that moment.

Lily shrugged, still looking abjectly miserable. "I'm going to make you some tea." she decided out loud, turning away. She took a few deep breaths, one hand clutching the piece around her neck, then started for the tea pot.
The barking of a dog from outside indicated that he may well get his wish; it sounded like Cerri's dog. It was still fairly far away, but it seemed the woman had gotten tired of waiting for Guan to come home, and gone looking for him.

"You don't have to," Guan said softly, taking a seat again. It would have been easier not to tell anyone, but it was Lily's right to know and to be the first to know.
