Her voice went flat as his unhelpful response. "You just don't like people, do you?" Still... his response did hint that he, himself, hadn't spent a day at the academy either. So, he is just some crazy kid that wandered out here for no reason... how dumb. He should be more responsible... She shook her head and continued the feel the indentation in the soft ground, attempting to measure it's size and such.
"Shoe print, I mean... it's pretty big from what I can tell. Probably not yours, unless you want to try and see if it's a match?." Feeling for where the heel and toe would be, she lightly stepped and crouched in an attempt to find another... she did, same size, opposite foot. Up a bit more, there was another one. "I think we have a trail for ourselves... the only issue is I don't know if the prints are heading further into te grove, or leading us out." She stood up and turned in what she thought was his direction. "Up to you on following... want to still look for yours and just put a marker here if we can't find them?"

While she waited for him to make the choice, as he was the one with the better sight, Tebiki snapped some twigs, not clean off, but just left them dangling from thin strips of plant matter. She didn't feel like tearing pieces of her clothes off to tie to branches, so snapped ones would have to do to mark where they were.
"So..." Making pseudo-light conversation again, "since you haven't been to the academy, does that mean I'll see you there as a student, or do you not want to be a shinobi?" Since that was a line of work that many didn't want to get into. "Or, if you do want to be... are you just avoiding it like you seem to avoid casual conversation?" What a brat she was.

Y A M A N A K A I don't care what the village wants. All I want is not to die without leaving a trace. Had she been able to see, her eyes would've drank in the infuriating sight of Inori dramatically rolling his eyes and throwing his hands up into the air in exasperation at her proclamation that he did not like people.
"Yes madam ANBU."
Sarcasm aside, honestly, did he ever give off the feeling of being warm or welcoming to her? Did she hit her head on her way down from that molehill or something?
Stomping over, with a mumbled "Lemme see." he looked at the print. That was definitely not his print. Her admittance that she was debating on following the trial anyways made his brow twitch.
Yes, it certainly seemed like she did hit her head, considering she appeared quite ready to follow the tracks of some nobody.
He removed a kunai from his pocket, and on the closest tree next to the print, scratched an "x" on the bark.
"Fine. We'll mark this spot for now."

Shrugging off his sarcasm, she just smirked. He could call her that all he wanted. Still... she hoped she'd done a good thing by finding the bigger prints. Right? It was a good thing? She couldn't really tell, not being able to see his expression and all. The only thing she figured out was that his voice seemed a little... reluctant. Maybe we shouldn't... at leats with his tracks he'd know which were coming and going... this is completely foreign.
Still... he cut into the bark with a kunai she wished she had. Seriosuly, her family was stingy when it came to weaponry. And they seemed to be okay heading off in the new direction. Why did she keep feeling worse and worse as they continued to hang out... it was obvious he didn't likme her, but seriously... what real wrong had she done?!

She decided for the time being, she'd keep a step behind and to the side of him, since he was still the one leading,r eally... plus he could make excellent markers. Though... she wondered what would happen if they tried to make a marker in a marker infested area. That had to have happened at least once, right? They couldn't possibly be the only people to ever get lost in this place...
As they went down the pseudo trail, her stomach gave a light grumble. Snack time already, huh? Unlike her companion, though, she had dried fruit and jerky in her pockets, left overs from an invasion of the pantry hours before. Hey, when it came to betting elder clansmen, you had to be prepared, right? Better preperation would have been to carry a water bottle, too... but she couldn't think of everything on the fly, now could she? Pulling out a sealed bag, she opened it and pulled out a strip of jerky, munching on it while she started to reseal the bag and put it in her pocket.

Y A M A N A K A I don't care what the village wants. All I want is not to die without leaving a trace. He kept pace at a slow jog while hunting for his footprints, not wanting to antagonize his body, which was already hurting everywhere. Every once a while, he stopped to make a mark on a tree so they would at least know where the other trial was left behind. They had actually set off at a fairly good pace: Inori was focused at least in his work, after all. Plus, when she remained quiet, it was easy to pretend he was still alone... Wait. Wait a moment - what was that? His nose twitched. He wasn't proud of his sense or smell, or anything -- it wasn't like his sense of smell was peculiarly sensitive -- but that scent could hardly be good.
His eye twitched.
That ingrate! How dare -- how could she eat in front, er, behind him! He knew it! He should've just ditched her - she was distracting too! He swallowed the words that were already making a furious onslaught to his mouth, for even Inori was certain they would come out as horribly cruel, and instead...
A little bit of drool trailed from the corner of his mouth.
Daaaaaammit. He was sooooo hungry.

While she was munching on deliciousness, she picked up the pace a little... and the closeness helped her notice that he seemed to turn and notice her. But he was still silent. Is he shocked that I shut up, or do I smell funny... or does my fo-... She pulled the package out of her pocket again and held it out as they continued down the trail. He might trip if he keeps looking back at me... A worry, but she wanted to see if he was hungry as she was. Swallowing her mouthful and pulling the rest of the strip away from her lips with the other hand, she raised the wrapped meats a bit more. "You want some..? I have dryed fruit pieces, too."
She slowed her pace a bit... they might just end up stopping iof they wanted to just snack. Besides... eating and running could cause cramps...

Batsu nestled himself high in the trees. He had just recently been promoted to chuunin, yet and still there was nothing for him to do yet. All of the glitz and the glamour of the exams had worn off and he was back to, seemingly, where he was before the whole shabang even started. He wanted to train but he wasn't really feeling it. Not now anyways. The boy was still a little drained from fighting... physically and chakra-wise. It would take a little bit for the newly-appointed chuunin to go back to the mundane.

Y A M A N A K A I don't care what the village wants. All I want is not to die without leaving a trace. He bristled like a hedgehog at her question: well, had he possessed spines, Inori was certain they would all be standing on edge right now given the deep breath of air he sucked so quickly into his lungs. Did she think he was that stupid to think her "offer" right now wasn't meant to insult him? Like hell was he going to admit he was hungry. He would not fall for a cheap trap such as this!
Most definitely not!
It was probably a fortuitous incidence that she was blind, because he didn't just make a mean face at her: he also directed a mean gesture her way. He didn't bother answering her question. His only reply was picking up the pace of his footsteps through the thicket, hurrying along all the while muttering unhappy things about "shinobi Ichizoku people..."

It was very fortunate for him that she could not see- for the time being. With her personality, a gesture like that would have sent him toppling head over arse and into a river. All she "saw" was the blur of a boy standing there and then going off at a faster pace than before muttering whatever. What on earth is his problem... I was just offering a snack... he could have said "no" if he didn't want anything. Geeze...
picking up her own pace, she finished her mouthful and stuffed the rest of her snack away. Apparently her concerns were burdensome... In fact, it seemed like ever since she'd fallen on him he'd been treating her like every little thing she said and did was just trouble. She slowed down a tad..
Then a tad more....
If she was just trouble, then why?
'Why are you helping me?' is what she wanted to ask... bit she bit her tongue and continued on. Whatever reason he was doing it for... she owed him, and he obviously didn't want payment in food.
She'd think of something.

Y A M A N A K A I don't care what the village wants. All I want is not to die without leaving a trace. It was growing quite difficult to make his way through the grove: every step of this forcibly sustained run made him very painfully aware how every cell of his body screamed for rest. Sheer brute force of will kept him going for now: he was not yet ready to rest, no, not until his eyes sight the village once more. To think that he was so pessimistic about remaining in the sights of the village! What a foolish thought that had been... Even as much as he disliked people, at least the village had other, more tempting things. He did not have a good memory of the spicy ramen served at the stand, but even that unhappy memory seemed quite tantalizing now. At the least, tantalizing enough to make his mouth water with want.
His stomach murmured a soft protest, and Inori placed a hand on it to gently quiet the trembling call. It was perhaps unfair, childish, to demand for cooperation from his body but really... What else could he do? Perhaps he shouldn't have so carelessly brushed her offer of food aside... But whatever, he didn't need pity from someone. Especially not a stranger. Especially not a stranger from a shinobi lineage. Wasn't that what got him into this mess in the first place?

With bad eyes came excellent ears, and with excellent ears came the ability to hear even the smallest of belly complaints. So he was hungry! What was it then? Stupid man-pride?! She grit her teeth and then made a sprint... and as soon as she got right behind him, she grabbed his shoulder.
"Stop. Now. You're going to over do it, and if you collapse out here how will you get to the village then? You need to rest, and you need to eat. The tracks aren't going to disappears, are they?"
Whether he wanted to shrug her off or not, she kept her grip on his shoulder... she'd tighten it, too, if she had to do so to make her point.

Y A M A N A K A I don't care what the village wants. All I want is not to die without leaving a trace. Naturally, while Inori is aware under very normal circumstances of the freak hearing of the disabled, this was one of the rare cases: he had completely neglected to count that factor in. Here he was, minding his business and keeping a sharp lookout for his prior tracks... Until he was unceremoniously, inappropriately touched. Inori scowled, resisting the urge to hit her only because firstly, she was a girl, and secondly, her question stopped him short with astonishment. The hostile green gaze turned steadily curious.
"Why do you care?" He mumbled, uncharacteristically quiet, taken aback perhaps even for once. This strange girl... Where others of the village had taken a sadistic liking to testing to see whether or not he was fit to survive in that world of theirs... And yet, here she was, asking about a small bodily concern. So he was wrong...? She hadn't asked that question before intending to make fun of him?

She felt him tense under her hand, at least until he asked his absurd question. Why did she care. Why did she care?! "Do I honestly need a reason to care if you exhaust yourself and collapse in the woods?" She let go of his shoulder and shook her head. "What do you want me to say? I care, because I pity you. That'd be a lie, I've never pitied anyone. I care, because we're best friends. That'd be another lie, you don't even like me and we're only aquaintences at most. I care, because I owe you. Hell no, I owe plenty of favors and most of them are to people I wish would get kicked in the shins on a regular basis." She paused, just for a moment to breathe. "I care simply because I care. Strange, maybe, but that's just who I am. Now, sit down and eat something." She was already fishing the food out of her pockets again and pushing the small bundles into his hands. She would not take 'no' for an answer.
