History: Born in a Santa Priscan prison, his mother died while giving birth to her son, she only had enough breath to sigh out a single name, in Spanish. That word was veneno, meaning poison, or "Bane." As a child, all he had was a teddy bear and books that were in the prison library. He learned how to read, speak and write, all by the age of three. Only one man ever tried to take his bear, and Bane killed him with the knife he kept hidden inside of it, forever putting him in his place as ruler of the prison. This landed him in solitary, which was merely a hole in the ground twelve feet deep, but at the age of fourteen, he was put through the testing phase of a new drug called "Venom." At the age of twenty-eight, Bane escaped from Peña Duro along with Trogg, Bird and Zombie and headed toward New York and Gotham, where the Batman lived, wanting to hunt the ultimate game.
Upon reaching Gotham, Bane used his three "friends" to figure out the identity of the Batman, and went straight to Wayne's home. There, he fought the Batman in the Bat Cave, and ultimately won by breaking his back. Later, Bane was subdued by a curious scientist who happened to work at Arkham Asylum and brought there to be studied. The staff at Arkham figured out a way to ween Bane off of his injections while keeping him incarcerated and decided to study the Venom for himself. This went on for four years. Then, this past Christmas Eve, a time travelling alien invaded Arkham and Bane made his escape during the proceedings of that event. He then went to a man named Martyn Azton, who had been in a scrape with Batman and wanted to bring him down once again. Bane was not seen or heard until a little over a week later, when he stole nanite technology that Wayne Enterprises had been working on, dressed as Batman, no less!
After stealing the nanomachine technology from Wayne Enterprise, Bane fought the Batman and Superman together at once, the fight was interrupted not once, but twice, the first time by Stargirl, and the second time being Lobo. Stargirl was then intercepted by Batzarro, and the ensuing fracas was Lobo against Bane. The fight ended up being a stalemate after which Bane took to the sewers. Bane then enlisted the help of Killer Croc (but that didn't last long) by promising a reversal to his mutation. After sending Croc on his way, Bane encountered Solomon Grundy and during his entreaty with that creature was interrupted once again by Stargirl. This time her interruption ended in her death, after Bane snapped her neck. Bane and Solomon Grundy went into hiding in Slaughter Swamp while Bane taught the zombie everything he needed to know. However, his plans for Grundy did not go through due to interference from Talia al Ghûl. Bane then decided to turn himself in and played the model inmate at Arkham Asylum once again. One week afterward, Talia sent in a Bane double and Bane once again escaped from Arkham. Bane then had Talia searched for and found, he then waited at her base of operations for her father. When he did not show, he went to his Batwing and flew away.
After disappearing from America Bane found his father, Edward Dorrance, in China. After killing his father by throwing him over a cliff on the mountain that King Snake was hiding on, he came back to America, having resolved to turn a new leaf in his life. He accidentally attacked a masked and armored woman, who brought Bane down after a brief but harsh fight. After this, he was dragged into a fantasy world where he was transformed into a dragon.
