According to the UN, the rate human population will grow will be to the point where we will peak at around 8 billion by 2040. After that, the global population will drop sharply eventually leading to our extinction as a species.

I would imagine that we would eventually reach some point where we realize that the population has decreased dramatically and start having lots of babies again. xp

I would want to debate this in my classes one of these days. Many there do support measures to control the population (such as abortion and sterilization), but I can see that what they support will only lead to our extinction as a species.
