toco clarinet xXxKoKoRoMixXx I agree toco, i would never stick my foot into my bari sax. It's just...wrong. I've never actually seen a contra bass up close. How much bigger is it than the bari sax? it's quite a bit bigger. the contra bass was about 6 feet(slightly taller than me) and the bari is just barely at my stomach(the top of it). oh. my. god. I-I want to play it. I mean, i'm short, only 5'5" (sometimes 5'6" with my shoes on) but, I want to play it xD the lower the better.

toco clarinet kazikago5123 dang... my private instructor put his foot in his alto and tenor to play low a.... so yeah.... Saxophone is the guitar of jazz XD XD O.o actually...the guitar is the guitar of jazz. the saxophone is the saxophone. : no reason to compare it to something that has a completely different role. Dude, who usually gets the melody in jazz. (cough cough saxophone) and what stringed instrument is in the rhythm section? (cough cough guitar) and comparing the two guitar is the main instrument for rock, and saxophones are typically the main instrument for jazz. So when I said that the sax is the guitar of jazz, Its because its the main instrument of the jazz genre as guitar is to rock music.

Blackheart115 toco clarinet Blackheart115 there isn't a fingering for it, but you can do it if you know how haha Sit down and play a low A, cross your legs, then stick your foot in the bell. It's fun haha your foot lowers the pitch a half step. that is neither practical, nor impressive. neutral it annoys me when someone thinks they're cool because they can stick their foot in their sax. yes, i realize it's a joke. no, it's not funny to me. it's like sticking a potato in your car's exhaust, only not as dramatic. more like disrespectful neutral . why would you do that to your own horn? contra bass doesn't have a G#/Ab key as far as i know. i've seen a contrabass played live and seen it up close too. the particular model didn't have an Ab, and it's not common for someone tobuy their own contra bass, so manufacturers don't try to experiment with the design. If you're too stuck up to experiment new musical aspects, maybe you shouldn't be a musician. Shes right, a large part of music is having fun while practicingperforming it. Just because your soul is too empty to accept that music is fun, doesn't mean you can be a troll online and compare someone experimenting with their instrument to hate crimes... seriously, just because you're too closed minded to accept something doesn't always mean it's wrong.

Now that we've established that we're all close-minded: I have no problem experimenting with music. I experiment with it all the time. Just because i don't have the same sense of humor as other people doesn't mean I'm close-minded. The fact remains though, that it's not practical. Saying that they're "experimenting" with music by sticking their foot in their bell is like saying someone is experimenting with pyrotechnics by compiling a bunch of chemicals and throwing them together, completely disregarding their chemical properties. Sure, it can get you the desired effect, fire and explosions, but it's not necessarily safe and it's not a good habit. Playing with your foot in your bell is bad posture and will not give you a very nice tone. Sure it's less drastic than dangerous chemicals, but that's the point of a comparison: to help you see something you can't see with the actual subject in question.

U cant have a good song with out the rhythm ,melody and counter melody . I have heard some really good pieces that have trumpet as the melody interment or trombone in fact.

get a private teacher. no body can adequately explain through text how to correctly form the embouchure(that's how you spell it)
imagine making your mouth a rubber band around the mouthpiece. you should be putting equal pressure on every point of the mouthpiece. your mouth should look kind of like an "o"

Private instructors help greatly. Since its usually one on one, they can give you more attention than if you were in a class. I would never have made all state without my instructor. biggrin As for embouchure, don't eat the mouth piece. ^_^ Don't chew your reeds, and DON"T FREAKING EAT while you play! lol, that drives me crazy and its pad for the instrument. Also, different reed types can help improve. If you find yourself chronically sharp or flat, you could be needing to get a new hardness of reed.
