Kasiya sat up, opening her eyes. "You really can't miss it," she said, taking note of the beach area surrounding it. "I swear I missed it last time," she blinked, remembering the double battle she'd had on that very sand. "Did I mention, the last time I went across the sea to Dewford, it was on the back of a Pidgeot?" She remembered that experience fondly, suddenly wishing Fang had a bit more restraint and control in the air.

Kilik put his chopsticks on top of his empty, bowl and let loose a loud belch. "Great noodles Mom," he said to her. Flareon sat on the floor, eating a small plate of stirfry that Kilik had given him.
"I'm glad you liked it. I take it you'll be leaving now?" she asked sadly. Kilik stood up and stretched a bit.
"As much as I don't want to, I have to," he looked at Flareon, who began to eat as fast as he could, "I'll visit again soon. Don't worry."

The boy was outside, waving goodbye to his mother and sister. "I don't want you to go yet!" Janie cried, running over and grabbing her brother's pant leg. Tears were streaming down her face. The boy paused and looked at her.
"Janie, listen. I'll be home soon. Be a good girl for me? Okay?" he kneeled to her level and placed a hand on her head.
"Don't be a stranger. You know you always have a home here."
"Thanks, Mom." He kissed his sister on the forehead and started heading toward Mauville City.
"No!!" Janie continued crying, this time sobbing into her mother's leg."Ever since Kilik got that Eevee, he's been ignoring me!"
"Janie, dear...He's a trainer now..." Mrs. Ranmo wiped a tear from her eye, "Come on now. Let's get back inside. It's getting late."

"No, you didn't say anything about your trip," Keegan replied. "What brought you to Dewford in the first place?" He thought of Artemis, and how even if she evolved, she'd probably be to small to Fly him anywhere. I need to catch more Pokemon, he thought, looking up at the sky. A few more types, like grass, or even rock or ground.

"Heh," Kasiya replied, leaning back again. "I don't remember if I told you this, either," she murmured, absently reaching for the lightning bolt pendant, but remembering at the last moment she'd given it to Mai. "Vermilion city's gym leader, Lt. Surge, is my father," she said, closing her eyes. And also an ex-Rocket, she thought bitterly, biting her lower lip. "I only found out about it by accident, when I walked in on a conversation he was having with my mother. I didn't really know what to do with myself, so I hopped on a train and found myself in Petalburg. Then I'd remembered that Mitsu and Mike were headed to Dewford, so I met them there, thanks to that Pidgeot. I even saw their teeny, tiny boat from the air." She smiled at the memory, and her friends' shocked faces when she'd met them.

"Wow," was all Keegan could think of to say right away. He glanced down at her, slightly worried. "So after you found out, and fled, what happened?" he asked, tilting his head. "Did you forgive them for keeping it a secret for so long? Or are you still mad or what?" It occurred to him that it was none of his business, really, but was still mildly curious.

As if she'd read his mind, she smiled. "It feels good to talk about it," she said, furrowing her brow. She wasn't sure she was ready to tell anyone about her skirmish at Viridian City, or about Mai being her sister. "Well, after I watched Mike and Mitsu beat the tar out of Brawly's Pokemon, Mike and I went to the beach and just hung out. He really helped me through that time," she said, thankful for his friendship. "Surge took his helicopter for a spin, and he managed to find us. All ended up being forgiven, and I took out any remaining anger I had by winning a Thunderbadge from him." She grinned, touching the glimmering badge fondly. "All these times I'd seen him hand them out to winning trainers, and I never imagined I'd get one of my own." Her last statement seemed to me more of a spoken thought rather than anything else.

Now it was Keegan's turn to play mind reader. Sensing she was holding something back, he gripped her shoulder gently and kissed her cheek again. "I'm glad you feel comfortable enough to tell me this," he said. "You can tell me anything, anytime." He let her go as they approached the cottage, and he jumped down from Hiro's back, ready to lend a hand if Kasiya wished it.

"Thanks," was all she could say as she took his hand, jumping down and landing on her good foot. "Opps!" she very obviously and unsubtly stumbled forward, and into Keegan, kissing him quickly. "How clumsy of me," she laughed, hobbling back a few feet and hugging Hiro. "Thanks a million," she said, kissing his big wet nose before recalling him.

"Hey!" Keegan laughed, almost falling over at the girl's antics. He grabbed her hand, ready to help if needed, and lead her over towards Mr Briney's cottage. The elderly man was standing on the dock, with the two Wingull flying overhead. He waved as the trainers approached.
"You made it back," he called, waving at them. "I was starting to worry."
"We were challenged to a battle," Keegan answered. "Sorry to keep you waiting."
"It's no trouble," Mr. Briney said, looking to the boat. "You two ready to go?" he asked. "Your stuff is already on board, we can go out to sea any time." The man looked eager, and had donned a sailor's hat of sorts.
"Can't wait," Keegan replied. "Mr. Briney, this is my, uh, girlfriend, Kasiya," he said, nodding to her. He blushed a little, introducing her that way for the first time really made it sink in a little more. "And Kassie, this is Mr. Briney."

"Hello, it's nice to meet you," Kasiya said, smiling. She too blushed at the introduction, it was odd being someone's girlfriend, at least in the beginning. She glanced over at Keegan and squeezed his hand. "I can't wait either," the girl smiled, looking towards the sea. "I love boats, and I love the sea. Do you think Ariel would be able to swim along side the boat for a while? She hasn't been in the water for quite some time."

Mr. Briney smiled at her. "Most likely," he nodded. "We won't be sailing that fast, but you'd best keep her Pokeball ready just in case. I guess if we're all ready then, it's time to disembark!" the eager sailor ventured onto his boat, quickly taking up position at the helm.
"Alright," Keegan nodded, and lead Kasiya onto the boat, still carrying her belongings. He sat down on a bench in the center, feeling a little uneasy without the solid ground below him.

"Cool," Kasiya said, happily following Keegan onto the boat. She made her way to the side, and held up Ariel's Pokeball. "Time for a swim!" she called, releasing the elegant water Pokemon beside her. The sleek Vaporeon nudged her trainer's elbow affectionately before diving headlong into the cool water, not resurfacing for several seconds. Kasiya giggled, watching her swim around as she leaned against the railing, overlooking the sea. "It's such a beautiful day," she sighed. She released Fang, Shocker and Rosemary as well, knowing from before that Adamantine would be too frightened of the water, and Hiro would be uneasy himself. The Raichu took position at the bow, looking into the water with amusement, while Fang chose to perch on the single mast, keeping a watchful eye over everything. The baby Chikorita, still exahusted from the battle, chose to curl up on a chair and go to sleep.

Kilik blinked, lifting his bag a little higher up on his shoulder. Mauville City was much smaller than he remembered as a child. "Hmm..." he checked his PokeNav map, "Dewford is on an island. None of my Pokemon know Surf..." he sighed heavily, "But I have the Soul Badge. So if they did, I'd be set." He tapped his foot impatiently.
"I hope there's a boat near Petalburg," he said, putting a finger on the map. He headed toward the south exit of Mauville City, whistling to himself. Flareon looked up at its trainer, then jumped onto his shoulder. "Do you want some company?" he asked. The Pokemon nodded. Kilik lifted up a PokeBall and let his Weezing out of it.
"Weeeh.." it groaned, falling to the ground instead of floating up like it usually did. Kilik tapped it lightly with his foot.
"Get up..." he sighed, walking past it. Weezing blinked a few times before floating up to his trainer.

Keegan lied back, staring up at the sky. He didn't release any of his own Pokemon, although he did consider it for a second or so.
"We're setting sail, Peeko my darling!" Mr. Briney called. The Wingull called out, flying circles around the mast, her new friend giving chase.
"Say Mr. Briney, have you named the new fellow yet?" Keegan called up, as the boat moved forward, the single large sail unfurling in the breeze.
"I've named him Peebo," Briney called back, and soon was intently sailing the small ship, humming to himself.
"Cute," Keegan chuckled, closing his eyes. "Dewford Island, here I come," the boy whispered into the salty breeze.

"Back again, to Dewford," Kasiya murmured, looking down into the water. Ariel was managing to keep a steady pace with the boat, sometimes even overtaking it. She glanced up at the sail, noting the direction the wind was blowing. "It's not in our favor," she mused, thinking about how much faster they could be going. Her thoughts were soon drifting with the waves, as she stared off into the horizion. The events of the past few days raced through her mind like a speeding train. What was I even thinking, going there alone? She bit into her lip again, hardly blinking. Did I really think I could beat all those Rockets on my own?
Or maybe you wanted to get caught. A second voice in her head began to speak. Kasiya closed her eyes, and shook her head.
No, of course not! Why would I want that? she scolded herself.
Why are you asking me that? You already know. The second voice faded from her thoughts, laughing as it did so. Despite the warm sun shining down on her, she shivered, realizing too late she'd bitten her lip so hard it was bleeding.
