Enemy unit scan complete. Displaying preferred information on screen.

As the enemy's information appeared before him, he was surprised.

That machine has a fairly good defensive rating... Some high-quality shields. Very agile, as well. I wish I had known that before the battle had begun...

Captain Zeiger's craft was now following the opponent's movement, pivoting in its open location. After all, it could turn at least as fast as his opponent could fly in circles around him from long distance.

ERAZR-00, Left Unit, 40% Charge.

Ready CDBML-05's. Load one of my Sideslip rounds into Left Unit.

Target is still outside firing range. Continue?

Yes.

The craft was rapidly approaching, so Captain Zeiger knew it would be within firing range shortly. The craft would raise its left weapon, determine a best estimate location for the incoming craft, and fire a single missle at its target, carefully eying his opponent's reaction on radar and viewscreen, receiving live transmission orbital video feed from his ship above.

The downside to using missiles in an area with lots of things in the way was...well, that things got in the way.

Unit 01 sped behind buildings for cover as a massive detonation roared behind him, marking the area where the explosive round had just detonated. It the moment it would take for the enemy pilot to realize that he had just missed his target, the White Comet would speed out from behind cover and launch into the air as it leveled the barrel of the Mortar Cannon with the massive hulking form of the enemy mech.

The barrel glowed green for a moment, one second to jerk the barrel into position, another to move out into the open, and the finals second to fire, before it spat a massive blob of green energy towards the opposing mech, moments before Ryu shot his mech behind some cover, retreating from the Area of Effect before the blast could explode, damaging him as well.

Th blast would erupt with the force of a quarter megaton, and explode directly on, or very very near the enemy mech. It was impossible to calculate the damage the weapon would do to the mighty machine, but it would be safe to say that most mechs in FELD's arsenal wouldn't be able to sustain any decent fight for much longer after taking a hit from one of those rounds. Even the mighty mech would be hard-pressed to deal with such a round, as it was specifically designed to attack mechs of its type... Large, slow moving, and heavily armored.

A burst transmission would appear in Ryu's cockpit.
Nice to meet you.

Ryu would watch, assuredly with some satisfaction, as the mechanical monstrosity before him was encompassed by the doombringing green blob, yet Captain Zeiger's expression remained calm.

Weapon impact. Weapon impact. Gyro stabilization compensating. Sorcerer ESMD shifting shield position to forward hemisphere; intensity adjusting to impact area.

As the ground around the VOX rumbled and partially evaporated within the enveloping blast crater, Zeiger planned his first true offensive move, live video feed working together with targeting computer calculations and FCS to give the--

almost pinpoint accuracy, a supermassive energy beam cutting a hole through the Energy Mortar explosion, literally shoving aside the impact force that was in its way, and screaming toward the White Comet's current location. Even a mech as fast as Ryu's would likely be hit by the attack, certainly still landing from his move to safety from the AoE. By the time Ryu's computer would display information of the incoming beam, it would already be halfway there.

Ryu wouldn't have to wait for his computer to give him detailed information about the beam weapon. That kind of power generated a massive energy spike before it was released, which would signify the attack before it had even left the barrel, and register on the mech's sensors without need for a long, drawn out, AI-written response. A mech pilot who operated simply by reading what the computer told them had no place on the field of battle with Ryu Kotetsu, or the White Comet.

Quote:
~Neural Link:
This function, along with the “Bio-Mechanic” parts of the mech allow for lightning fast reaction time and much more agility and maneuverability than most standard mechs. This also serves as the main system to alert Ryu that his mech has been damaged as small sparks of pain are sent into his brain to call attention to the damaged area. This method is far more sophisticated and effective than the standard HUD or Heads Up Display that the mech is ALSO programmed with. Oddly enough, the mech sometimes acts quite strangely and exhibits behavior not ever seen in any mech unit, sometimes acting as if it is a living creature. While no data can properly identify the reason for these rare occurrences, one theory suggests that the bio-mechanic parts of the mech develop a strange consciousness at certain times when mixed with brainwaves from the pilot. This is untested, but intriguing if true…

It was almost as if Ryu could "feel" the energy spike, and instinctively know that danger was approaching, as the mech's sensors detected the mighty attack in progress, and the Neural Link relayed the information directly to Ryu's brain. The two entities were virtually one, which was part of what made the White Comet unique among FELD's creations. With hardly a thought, and a quick twitch of the controls, the White Comet shot into action with the velocity of a speeding bullet. Literally.

Quote:
*Twin Hyperion Fission Boosters:
These powerful engines are located in the shoulder pylons of the mech and allow the mech high-speed boosts when on the ground, amplified speed for fast reactions, and flight while in the air. At maximum burn, the engines can push the mech to a sustained top speed of mach 3.5 for one minute. Failure to power down the engines will result in severe damage.

In a virtual instant, the White Comet lived up to its namesake, a sonic boom thundering across the battlefield as the mech shot out of harm's way as the beam lit up the buildings behind the speeding form of Unit 01 as it arced up into the sky at a tremendous speed, up over the top of the massive enemy mech, and behind it, cutting its engines, and skidding to a halt on the opposite side, before gunning them once more for a quick boost for speed, and charging directly towards the gigantic monstrosity before it would know what just happened.

Zeiger now used one of the simpler functions of his craft that most never seemed to expect. The upper torso of his craft would pivot around 180 degrees, and Ryu would again be facing the "front" of his opponent.

AV Thrusters, overboost fire. Full left. Divert all stored energy from ERAZR-00, Left Unit.

As he finished his sentence, Ryu's cannons would fire, and Zeiger's mech would jet almost instantly off to the side a good distance. He would then aim both CDBML's, letting off 4 missles that would arc out and approach the White Comet from four perpendicular angles.

This battle isn't going well.

Luckily for the heavy mech, the White Comet's energy cannons didn't fire, however, Unit 01's actions would be as quick, if not quicker than his own.

As the missiles shot in, the white mech jumped with a burst of energy from its boosters, causing it to sail above the four projectiles as they collided and exploded on one another, the mech's energy shields flickering, but taking no real damage.

Once he'd cleared the projectiles, Ryu quickly piloted his mech back down into the cover of the surrounding buildings, the mortar still charging for another shot.

As the missiles shot in, the white mech jumped with a burst of energy from its boosters, causing it to sail above the four projectiles as they--

merely passed each other for another shot at their target. Ryu had misjudged their trajectory: though they had approached him from perpendicular angles, they had not approached from the same altitude. So, having missed their target, they would have done no damage, but would arc skyward and continue their pursuit. Ryu would be hard-pressed to find cover, as 4 missles with a 150-meter high-expolsive blast radius were following him closely, and would likely blow through all (and then some) of whatever cover he landed next to. The missles were also about 60% out of fuel, and they would self-detonate the instant the remaining 40% was gone.

Target is recharging Energy Mortar; at current rate of charge, weapon will reach threshold from previous charge in 54 seconds.

Scans also indicate energy storage in each of the unit's shoulders. Energy is likely to be medium caliber energy weapons of unknown type. Energy level is stable rather than increasing or decreasing; units are likely charged and ready to fire. Caution recommended.

Let's hope this will be over before that Mortar is ready...

The VOX began to approach its opponent's projected landing site, assuming it continued its current trajectory, and its CDBML's 10-second reload time had about half-passed...

Ryu piloted his mech down between the buildings of the city, zipping and weaving around as he neared the big lumbering mech. Boosting system or not, the White Comet could still out-maneuver the big hulking mass of metal and circuitry. It was what it was designed for, after all. The rockets still followed him, apparently, and Ryu simply wasn't going to let them hit him.

Standing still was useless against high-tracking projectiles, and so the White Comet kept moving around buildings with uncanny agility, grace, and flexibility. All the while, the mech made its way around the bigger mech, obscured by buildings of course, where it would be much much harder for the mobile fortress to strike him, the large structures acting as shields to soak up damage from any attacks, and of course the missiles as well.

However, this speedy retreating tactic would only last long enough for the white mech to get into position before the speeding machine erupted out from behind a building, ditching the charging mortar and activating its beam weapon, the blade lancing out from its right arm as it sped towards the unprepared target, ready to strike...

Ruuvan

PostPosted: Wed Apr 09, 2008 2:26 am

Every fight presented itself with new opportunities to learn from a worthy opponent. Yes, he had fought with Maximos many times before, but each time something new came up. This time it seemed to be the black blood the shadow sprayed onto him, twice so far; the first time was enough to give him an inkling of what this blood on his body could do.

Maximos was open for an attack and Ruuvan, his blades included, were covered in blood. Earlier on, said blood had practically exploded on him and caused a significant amount of pain. So without a moments hesitation once the blood had been spilled, Ruu let his blade fall to the ground and sprang up from his crouched position to perform a close-range tackle on Max, throwing his fists into the sides of the black mass as he landed. If some nasty s**t was going to happen with this blood, the least Ruu could do would be to make sure it wasn't all on him; a mistake maybe, but now the two were back to fists.

As the four missles auto-detonated and/or blasted into buildings, the VOX would raise its right launcher up, aiming backward over its shoulder, firing off two more missles, and tracing the White Comet's position with the weapon, arm rotating to maintain lock while the torso pivoted to the right toward the direction necessary to face Ryu directly. The left was ready to be fired at the White Comet, once facing him head-on.

Prepare the Phalanx for analysis of the blade's incoming trajectory to maximize ESMD efficiency.
Hmm. I have less reason to worry now than ever before in this battle.

Target is accelerating. Incoming trajectory calculated. ESMD shifting shield toward target craft. Shield particle distribution ready for movement.

Ruuvan was ruthless. He spared Maximos no quarter. No rest, he spared him no expense.

That was good, honestly, Maximos would do exactly the same if given the chance.

Maximos was impacted by the elf, his body lurched forward, his back snapped as pressure fractures spread out from the impact point like veins on a lightning bolt, when he was infact impacted. But....Maximos had an advantage that Ruuvan did not have. Maximos had his sword, shoved forward as he was he reached his arms forward jabbing the sword into the ground. It was a grip, a platform.

The Shadow shot out his right foot smacking into the middle of the flat of the sword. So as not to wretch it from the ground.

Ruuvans fist flew for Maximos' sides, but his sideways strike was revealed by its reflection in the sword.

Maximos shot both hands outwards and back catching Ruuvan's by the wrist as he kicked off his blade with gritted teeth even as he pulled Ruuvan's empty hands forward, aiming to smash the back of his head, into Ruuvan's sharp, pale elven face. A rather vicious blow considering it would turn all the elfs forwad inertia back on itself, if it hit.

Both fighters had been through a lot, giving them the experience and skill required to adapt to anything given to them. Ruuvan didn't dismiss the sword, but he couldn't figure any way to beat it without going around and giving Maximos a moment of rest. It couldn't be given in a fight of this meaning and history between them.

His fists hit the sword, a moment of pain. Hands grabbed both his wrists and a shadow head was soon aiming to crush into the front of his face. What could he do? The back was stronger than the front, a direct blow would lead to only one outcome. Ruuvan went with it, leaning his head back as far as he could then leaned and turned his face to the right to shift the impact as much as he could. A powerful blow. A loud crack sounded amongst the mush of flesh and shadow. Red blood flowed onto the shadowy skull and down the elves face. Another moment of pain. Fighter dealt with such things when adrenaline coursed through their veins.

Ruuvan's upper momentum was stopped, but his legs that were trailing on the ground behind were lifted as the shadow hefted the elf into the air. Pain cracked at him like a whip from then reverse headbutt, but he maintained focus enough to lift his legs up and shoot both kness towards the back of the shadows knees. A hit that, if delivered, would hopefully knock him to his knees with the elf on top, a turning point.

Ruuvan was close. So close. But in the moments that passed earlier in the fight, he had taught Maximos that there was no room for mercy. That in order for Maximos to land a hit, he had to work double time, and double the effort.

The Dark Sword, the 6ft, and 150lbs monstrosity that it was had been embedded in the ground in front of Maximos, so that the Shadow could shove off of it and back into Ruuvan.

The crack of there faces meeting was vicious. It sent spider cracks along the back of Maximos' head and yet another spurt of black and red to stain the Shadow's spikey blue hair and Ruuvans pale elven face.

But you see the sword was still a piece of vertical leverage, and Maximos intended to use it. Ruuvan's body had been arched back by the impact, and Maximos intended to abuse that fact. Being a tall man, Maximos had long legs, and Ruuvan a moment ago had intended to tackle Maximos, meaning the Shadow did not need to extend his leg fully to impact Ruuvan.

He extended it now, along with his other leg, to literally kick off the sword, this meant that while his head had impacted Ruuvan's face and forced it back, his back, and upper shoulders would grind along the face as Maximos kicked up, tucking his legs into his chest and rolling up and over the elves face, to land knelt behind him. It was one of the perks to having no internal organs and being light as can be.

Needless to say Ruuvans knees would miss.

And he was left kneeling on the ground, with Maximos on one knee directly behind him. And the 6ft long, 5inch wide Dark Sword directly in front of him.

Maximos shot both his hands out to his sides. Black ichor sparked from two elven blades, as they flipped and spun, and howled at the air before landing securely in Maximos grip. Maximos who in a blur of black kicked off the ground, for a very clean very vicious cross cut with both blades, across Ruuvan's back.

He had decided that it would be nicer than going straight for the neck and lopping the elves head clean off.

This attack said "Wake up." as opposed to "Your dead." And very soon afterward Ruuvan just might notice that the black blood smattered on his face had begun to crackle, and spark....

Rae looked around at the emptiness all around her and started swearing under her breath.

"What are you going on about?" Hono stretched and looked around at the void, wondering what brought her here this time.

Rae blinks in surprise and rounded on her double. "I am going on about the fact that I don't have normal dreams or nightmares even... I end up in this damn place instead... and it is pissing me off!"

"Oh, well I can understand that being rather annoying, but you are getting a bit foul mouthed over it..." Hono peered around wondering if they were going to be joined by anyone else.

"Sorry... it is just unnerving to fall asleep and end up here... I mean, when you have a piece of chocolate cake before bed your butt just gets a little fatter... I would just wish for gas, or even a fat a** like yours instead of this place!" Rae raked her nails though her hair and sighed in exasperation.

Hono glared at her double over the fat jokes and even twisted around like a contortionist to try and get a good look at her butt to make sure it was not getting as large as Rae made it out to be. "Perhaps you keep getting sucked in here because you insist on being such a b***h all the time..."

Rae just shrugged and buffed her nails on her pant leg. "I can not be all sugar all the time... I'm not exactly happy to be here, this is your world after all.. not mine."

"It can be if you let it..." Hono reached out to Rae.

Rae turned to slap her hand away with a frown "Not with you around it can not be... My name is Hono'o Raven... but your name is Hono'o Raven... I can live with being just Rae, but I hate it when they only see you when they look at me...."

Hono fought off the urge to snap back at Rae, she understood where the anger was coming from.. the main point was that her double needed to work through it. "You could make them see the differences...because there are differences if you choose to highlight them instead of hiding them.. I am more than willing to help on that front!"

Rae growled and scowled at Hono and wondered what she had to do to get through that stupid kind and calm veneer that her double was hiding behind. "I am who I am.. why the hell should I have to change and pretend to be someone else?"

Hono sighed and rolled her eyes, time for a subject side step. "...have you ever wondered what life would be like if you had a sister, I mean besides Nedyfay... a real sister, someone who knew your deepest secrets and your worst fears because they had been there with you all your life?!"

"Not really... I doubt it would have made any difference in our strange life, I mean the point is that you would be you and I would be me.. and at the end of the day we wouldn't see things from exactly the same perspective... and we would likely fight like a pair of cats in heat." It had apperently occurred to her as well even though she was in denial about it all.

"Ya, you are likely right about us fighting...but it doesn't stop me from wishing." Hono shrugged and blinked as she noticed something in the distance. "Looks like we might be able to watch a fight in progress this time, instead of just fighting ourselves..."

Rae turned to squint at what Hono was looking at, grinning happily as she recognised Maxi. "Is that Ruuvan, from the GSF?"

"Looks like it, I forgot to ask...are you still active with the GSF?" Hono smiled to herself as they found themselves moving closer to the fight between their friends without being any clearer to Maximos and Ruu.
