"She's not frightened," Letalus cut in before Merro could answer for herself. He was taken aback by the fury in the girl's eyes. Was her pride so easily injured? At any rate, he didn't trust she could come up with a sufficiently believable story, so he pressed on. "She just knows as well as I that Parnell is more suited to giving the proper sum for these pearls."
With these words, he dismounted from the horse and bowed slightly. "We'd be in your debt if you guided us. You may ride with...my lady, if you'd like." At the moment, it felt like Merro would have quite happily go out of her way to make his ride uncomfortable, so he hedged his bets.

Having felt that she had been left to sit in the cold grass, she huffed and trotted after Leana's foot, bouncing up in the air, and then tackling her ankle. Of course, her paws were of no greater strength than that of an infant just brought into the world against a human's leg. As she was dragged by the momentum of Leana's leg in mid stride, she laid flat on her belly in the dirt road after letting go of her "prisoner's" boot lace.
"Dook dook" T-T!

Leana felt the ferret grab her as she had walked over. After the little creature let go, she turned to it.
"Alright that's fine with me...and would you two mind if I perhaps brought along this little critter? I think she likes me."
She smiled nervously at the others, but in her head she was wondering...he'd said that she would sit with Merro...perhaps it'd be easy to procure the pearls from her during the journey. Of course then once they got to the pawnshop, how would she explain that one? Surely they'd blame her first?
If only that man hadn't stolen their gold before she could!

Merro eyed the ferret with some trepidation, but decided after a bit of reflection that the creature certainly didn't act wild or ferocious. Besides, in her current mood almost anyone would be a more desirable saddlemate than Letalus the Insufferably Insulting.
"So long as it does not bite," Merro responded, and then gathered up the reins in her hands. Gesturing behind her with a shake of the head, she added, "Come. We should be off, else it will be dark before we find the place."
...the thought suddenly struck her that a quick kick to the horse might take her far, far away from Letalus in a fairly short amount of time. She still had her pearls and the sword. The dagger was with Letalus but that was no great loss. Her eyes fell to the reins in her hands as Leana walked toward her.

Leana smiled and then went to jump behind Merro onto the horse. She managed to land sitting on the back of the horse, only to qucikly slip down the other side and collapse on the floor.
"Oogf!" she moaned. "Okay...that didn't work quite well."
She hopped to her feet and dusted off, and then quickly but more carefully got onto the horse and settled herself safely behind Merro.
"Let's go then." she said with a smile.

Letalus watched Merro's line of sight and nearly smirked. So that was her game, was it? He really must have messed up if she was willing to forgo any further protection from whatever else was waiting for them down the road. After Leana arranged herself with minimal bodily harm, he reached out and took hold of the reins as well, staring up at her coldly.
"Give me your sword."

Merro found herself put to the blush once more as Letalus' cool gaze and flat command seemed to say right out that he had read her thoughts as they passed through her mind.
"I'll have need of it should we be attacked once more," she replied, stubborn even when backed into a corner. Hopefully Leana doesn't catch fire from all the glaring going on so near her.

Leana looked back and forth between the two of them. Then she smiled nervously.
"I'd suggest she keep the sword...she's right after all. If we're ambushed again we'll want all the help we can get...right?"
She didn't know if she should really cross Letalus though...even though it seemed he already was.

Without taking his eyes from Merro's face, Letalus addressed Leana. "The sword itself is a danger and she barely knows how to use it." He lowered his voice, stepping closer to Merro. He seemed to be pleading now. "You could barely stand after the battle, my lady. How many more men do you really think you can kill?" Appealing to her logic was the only way he knew how to convince her.
The truth was, the sword was a concern. Yes, it would help him keep her in line, but he was more than convinced now that it was a cursed sword and a delicate human noblewoman was no person to wield such a thing.

'I could kill you,' would have been a fine retort, but it was too unrealistic. At any other time the concern and care which seemed to be emanating from Letalus would have disarmed her, but Merro had been put into too fine a temper for anything short of his beating heart on a platter to move her.
He had a point, however. The sword was dangerous. She had experienced the draining effect of it once already, though she'd neglected to tell Letalus the details. A new thought suddenly sparked into life as she imagined giving the sword to her captor. What if she did? And what if she distanced herself from it? Would the sword take him as its new master? She brought the sword up and held it in front of her for a moment, taking a last look at the bright silvery blade with its mysterious inscription.
All in a moment, she tossed the sword to Letalus and then quickly ripped at the reins, kicking her horse savagely in the ribs at the same time.

Leana saw what was happening all too late. One moment, Merro had given up her sword. At first Leana was going to protest and say it was a bad idea, but the next moment Merro kicked the horse. She was going to make an escape?!
"Whoa, what are you-!"
By a MERE stroke of luck with her reflexes, she'd grabbed onto Merro's waist as the horse took off. But staying on was ridiculously difficult.
Yet with this new motion, she wondered how easy it would be to snag a few of Merro's pearls without her noticing. She also realized that Letalus was most likely going to be very, very angry.
OOC: Sorry for the short post, but I'd assume Meri would want to RP for the horse. ^_^

By instinct, Letalus' hand shot out and caught the sword by the blade. He winced as for the first time in a long time, his magical skin was pierced. No blood seeped out, however. Instead, the flesh the cursed blade bit into turned to brown stone.
The shock at feeling pain was enough for him to let go of the reins, allowing Merro and her new companions to get away. Hissing, Letalus loosed the sword from his palm with a metallic "c***k." The stone turned to flesh once more, but now there was a shallow groove in his palm.
"Merro!" he roared after her, clenching his still aching hand. "I'll find you again!" It was a threat, a promise and challenge all in one.

ooc: Sword: WTF? *ptoo, ptoo* Yuck. Merro, come baaack! This man is not tasty! T^T
Merro was hard-pressed not to fall off her mount as the horse half-reared and then took off with a mighty bound, especially with the additional pull of the girl's arms about her waist. Perhaps it was all to the good that the girl hadn't fallen off. She was down one sword, but here was a companion who had claimed to have battle experience. Hopefully the chirping creature was safely tucked away somewhere instead of being trampled by the startled horse's hooves.
The ground flew away beneath them. A road of sorts continued on into the forest and Merro found that she need not hold the horse back much from a full gallop, and so they sped their way toward proof of Tomlin's passing.
Merro offered no speech, not being in the mood for light chatter. Her mood was darkening. She told herself it was fear of the road ahead. It was actually guilt and remorse, and she did not want to examine them.

Leana kept her hold on Merro as tight as she could. She was ready to jump off herself. Then she wondered frantically where the ferret had gone. It was hard to tell and there was no way she could look. Her head was buried on Merro's shoulder to avoid hitting any stray branches from trees.
"Hey slow down! Why are you running away! C'mon, please just slow down a moment!"
Leana realized just how close she was to the pearls. Her hands were about six inches from the necklace...but did she dare? Especially in the current situation?

Splotches of blood crest the road, and a bit of the trees and bushes of the surrounding area. You notice that drag marks make their way through the bushes, as if someone had drug something heavy out of the line of the road. ooc: Roll to see if you notice something else~ DC is 3 of 10
