Orona yawned as she and Nytior somehow flew away from Genyiel. She couldn't quite remember how cause she was tired, but she was quite sure that Nytior knew what was going on. She felt herself drooping and gliding down some bit and she was so sleepy and... Chomp! "RAWR!" Orona whirled around to face her dragon-kin, fangs exposed as she snarled at him. Nytior had bitten her tail! The in... Uh... The indigginyty of it all! The wyvern dodged Orona's clumbsy assult and soared ahead. The Fallen roared horsely and sped foward. This wyvern was not going to escape!

Risen snarled as the child bit into his arm and kicked at him but he didn't let go. Better for her to leave visious bit marks in his flesh and bruses on his legs then letting her go only to have her hit by a crossbow bolt. The dirt figure he had made dispursed as it got hit with a bolt and Risken growled slightly as his free hand snatched up the dropped sword. At least now he was better armed. He drew the child closer to him even as she kicked him harder and harder.
He closed his eyes and could feel through the earth below him where a rock was. He used a little more power to send it flying through the air at the man with the crossbow. He didn't want to deal with a far ranging weapon at the moment. Using all this power was taxing him though and he knew it. Swinging the child around so that if he let her go she would run away from the fight he whispered to her. "If I let you go you must run straight and fast to get away unhurt..." He had been very careful when holding the child so that his grip was never too harsh unlike the man that had held her before.

Alter stilled, hanging off Risen's arm and trying to turn around a little. "But what about miss Avalene? Will you help her, too?" She didn't bother to lower her voice; this was urgent! "Promise and I won't kick you no mores," she added, in the hopes that this would make him promise.

The man on the horse ducked to the side, raising one arm to block the rock. It hit his arm and left a gash but he just ignored it and raised the crossbow to fire, aiming for Risen.
Avalene saw him readying the bow and from her spot on the ground snarled and with one hand pulled her veil off and let it fall to the ground. And then she leapt for the man with the sword, grabbing him about the waist and letting her weight and momentum drag them both into the dirt again. She managed to get one good knee in on his kidneys before he grabbed both her wrists and forced her hands up and away. His sword was left on the ground.
"Kill him!" she cried to Risen, "Hurry!"

Even as the child spoke Risen made out the sound of the crossbow being reloaded. He then heard the scuffle between Avalene and her captor. As she yelled for him to strick he shoved the child out of the range of the bolt and then aimed the pointed end of the sword at the back of the neck of the man holding the prophetess. The blade was between him and the crossbow but that didn't mean he couldn't get shot.

The sword went into the man easy and his body jerked and then fell utterly still as the blade broke the connection between brain and spine. Avalene smiled at him, murderous intent in her eyes, and carefully took hold of his hair.
"I don't have to See to know you're going to hell," she whispered, and then snapped his head back so that the blade slipped through and cut the windpipe and artery, finishing the kill.
The man on horseback took advantage of Risen's stance to fire off a bolt towards the side of his chest, aiming for the ribcage.

This was all just too much for Alter; she fell when Risen pushed her aside, like a little doll. The white lacey cloth her mother had pinned into her hair fell out, taking a couple of strands of red hair with it. Later, she wouldn't remember if it was that or the look she saw in Avalene's eyes that made her scream, but she did. When the blood started, her shrill voice just got louder. She hid her face in her knees, pausing only occasionally for tiny breaths of air that seemed to be drowning in a disgusting metallic scent.

After the sword had found its mark Risen lowered his arm just in time for it to be struck by the bolt instead of his chest. He cried out in pain but his eyes snapped towards the offending man. As anger rushed through him his good arm raised and the half of the dirt figure that was still intact rose and hurled itself at the horse. The dirt cloud was gone now and the dirt from it was coming together and packing into a dirt rock that was easily as big as the man's head. It too went flying in his direction.

The man slipped out of the stirrups, dropping to the ground as his horse reared in panic and diving out of the way as the dirt ball hit the side of his steed, knocking it over onto the ground. His quarrel scattered bolts everywhere and the horse kicked frantically, trying to get back on its hooves and away from the cause of its panic.
The last kidnapper stepped away from the horse, putting some distance between him and the animal and drawing his sword. He started walking towards the two, deliberately careful, watching Risen carefully.
Avalene had recovered her spear from where it had been dropped and she came up behind Risen, sliding the shaft forward past his left shoulder and leveling it towards the man.
"Keep him at your range," she said softly, "So long as he's kept at your sword range I can hit him and he won't be able to hit me. I can kill him. But he'll close in real fast now and he'll go after me first so be ready..."

A finished job put money in the pockets, but it never stayed that way for long. The supplies needed to be restocked soon the rider reminded herself as she bounced in the saddle. The arrows were getting low and it was time to replenish the rations. She shifted for a moment to straighten out an uncomfortable boot when she noticed that the bouncing had stopped. Dulcimer had slowed his pace before coming to halt, snorting a little as he stomped at the ground in front of him.
"What's the matter?" the rider asked, looking to the balking horse before looking over the road ahead of her. "So, what's going here..." she whispered as she stared at what seemed to be a growing cloud of dust in the distance.
Leaving her horse in the trees a ways, the curious traveler made her way to the scene on foot - bow in hand, arrow in the other - before arriving to witness a sword shoved through a man's neck. With the din from the fight, there had been little need to cover the sound of her arrival. From behind the roadside foliage, she quickly scanned the site trying to make out what was going on.
Now it had come down to a face off between the unusual pair and the highwayman who switched to using a sword. It looked to be a rather unstable match up. The pair had the defended distance, but the male had taken a bolt to the arm and the highwayman looked to be experienced.
Time to uneven the odds, the leather-armored ranger thought as she stepped out from the brush with bow drawn.
"Drop your weapon!" the brunette ordered from a distance on the highwayman's left, her aim steady as she scrutinized his movements. "Belly to the ground and kiss the dirt or this arrow breaks your heart!" If the man moved to attack, she'd fire. In case he turned to attack her specifically, she was on her toes, ready to dodge to the side at a moment's notice... that is if he managed to cross the gap without anything sticking out of his chest.

Nodding to the others, Astalder waited for some time, thinking that Aaliyah was going to go ahead and take the lead. Though, after a bit of thought, he wondered where they were going to look in the first place. There were a number of places where they could try searching, but only one area seemed to really stand out in his mind.
Seeing as how the Fallen dragons were playing a rather big part in all of this, it seemed fairly sensible to look around where they had been. And now that they had all left, there probably wasn't too big of a risk in snooping around there. There was one small problem with all of this, however.
"Er... do any of you know where the Fallen stayed last night? Like.. exact location?" he asked while looking back and forth between the other two dragons and human.

The last of the bandits looked from Avalene and Risen to the newcomer, carefully sizing up range and distance. Then he glanced at his two fallen companions, one dead, one unconscious, and snarled and tossed his sword to the ground. It rang as it hit and he carefully put his hands up and behind his head, keeping a close eye on the girl with the bow.
"You win," he said calmly, "This isn't worth getting killed over."

Aaliyah’s steps slowed slightly as she considered Astaldar’s rather obvious question. She had been thinking about it herself. In truth, she wasn’t completely sure where the Fallen had stayed the night before, but she was pretty sure she knew which tunnel they had disappeared down.
“Well… umm… actually, no… not really. Not in so many words, anyway. But, I think I know how to find it. The egg thief was there for a time, right? And he was pretty… umm… he looked like he was in bad shape from Tarketh’s torture. He was in the Fallens’ den for a little while. Maybe we could track his scent. Or even Tarketh’s.” It was pretty clear to her, especially since Tarketh and his new Bound had left fresh scent trails back in the main hall. That way, she and the other younglings could know the exact smell they were looking for.
Hopefully, it hadn’t faded too much. And, hopefully, not too many other dragons had wandered by. That would mess up the trail. The white youngling sniffed at the floor hopefully and managed to get a glob of dirt stuck up her nose. Sneezing violently, she scratched it out, feeling very embarrassed. Well, that hadn’t gone over well…
Another thought struck her, this one slightly more brilliant than her last one. “Vastina! You said you could… umm… see the human’s spirit, right? Do you think he could lead us there? Or any spirit!” She still wasn’t sure if she believed the Ascended’s stories of ‘seeing dead people’, but it was worth a try. Besides, Aaliyah didn’t want to sneeze again.

"Well that is how I found Astaldar during the fight. A spirit told me which way to go." Vastina said kind proud of her ghost friend. "Lets see..." The little Ascended scanned the area for another spirit to help lead them. Rue looked at the small group and then at Blade. At least there was another human there. He glanced at the wounded man's arm for a moment wondering if it still hurt.
Vastina finally found a spirit willing to lead them the correct way and stood pointing in the right direction. "They say go this way." And she started off after the spirit just as she had when she disappeared of Aaliyah the day before.

As they walked, Blade stayed near the back of the group, strolling along a few feet behind Astalder. He caught Rue's glance somewhat, causing him to look back at the boy for a moment before giving a bit of a weak grin.
Glancing back and forth between the other two, Astalder just remained silent and looked around for anything that might be a trail of dried blood, left behind by the egg thief as the two spoke. When Vastina mentioned how she found him and his friend earlier, he just tilted his head slightly, wondering if this was true. If it was, it'd be pretty neat, he thought.
The dark youngling then gazed over in the direction that the young Ascended had pointed and simply nodded before walking in that direction.
"You sure about this?"
