Excellent, the house is always a bit stuffy when Walter is cleaning it, so I decided to go for a fly.
He smiled, taking the long reed he had and slipping it in his mouth, like a farmer of some sort.
Indeed. Especially at night, the moon comes over the hill there...
Maximos gestured to large hill just on the horizon.
...and looks magnificent.
He paused for a minute or two in silence taking in the view, before turning back to his friend.
Did something happen, Mr. Ryugi?

Ryugi grinned a bit, and a huff of a laugh came from his mouth.
Heh, theres no need for the formality Max, we're both friends here.
He sighed and looked back up into the clouds as they drifted lazily above the ground. Clouds had to be the most carefree things in existence. They looked down from the sky above, and watched everything unfold, and they simply drifted from place to place, only at the mercy of the wind...
I...suppose you could say that something happened.

I could tell...
Maximos said his eyes scanning the grassy ground for a moment.
People tend to look to the sky, when someone on Gaia tries at them.
He took a step closer, eyeing a very particular spot on the soil. The old saying always read, misery loves company.

Ryugi motioned near himself as he continued to look up at the sky. Silence passed for a moment before Ryugi spoke again.
You know, Max, trust and friendship are interesting things, you know?
Maximos wouldn't need magical powers to tell this might be a long conversation...

He sat, folding his legs underneath him. His hand reached out snatching a reed and twisting it in his finger tips across the silence. His eyes scanning the sky, as the reed quietly crackled.
How do you mean?
Maximos said. His ears perking as he Ryugi spoke. That was a very wide statement, and he really wanted to give the boy a chance to talk. In simple terms...he was in it for the long haul.

I mean... That if you think about it, theres risk in every part of that kind of a relationship with anyone. When you first meet someone, you have no idea what they might be like. Sure, you might get emotional impressions from them or whatnot, but...you really don't know them until you open your heart and allow them inside. First impressions can only tell you so much about a person, and sometimes, they can be wrong. In every kind of friendship, there is trust, and that friendship is based on that trust, and in the knowledge that that person will always be there for you if they can. And we assume that that is how its going to be...
Ryugi paused, taking a breath as he looked at the clouds.
But sometimes, the person that you've come to know and trust...isn't who you believed them to be. For whatever reason, they aren't quite who they seemed... Its strange to think that living creatures put so much into a friendship, when they don't even know if it is all worth it... And then, when that friendship goes awry, they're always surprised, as if they thought they knew everything there was to know about that person. And when something like that happens...you never know how to react, and it leaves some of the biggest scars a person can have.
I'm sure I don't have to tell you emotional scars hurt more than physical ones...

Its the truth...they truly do.
No, he most certainly didnt. And Maximos knew exactly what he meant. Though he did not go into a dissertation about his past experiences. He was forced into putting those two rests years ago. This was for Ryugi's sake. And in order to completely understand there was something he would have to ask.
What happened Ryugi?

Corruption...
The answer was simple, but it was charged with more meaning than any other single word released from Ryugi's mouth in the conversation so far. He took a deep breath and sighed as the clouds he was watching blew over the sun, blocking it out for a moment while Ryugi spoke with some amount of difficulty.
Corruption happened my good friend...
I can't understand why... I thought I knew him better than that... But for whatever reason, one of my dearest friends has corrupted himself... His heart beats with darkness, his soul...as far as I can tell, is merely an animated remnant of what it once was. His mind is clouded by evil desires and wishes... He...is not the friend I came to know and trust... And...what is worse...he tried to kill me, and threatened to kill everyone I cared about...
I... I trusted him with my life, Maximos... We've fought together on numerous occasions, side by side against common foes. Battle in tournaments, saved Angara from a dreadful evil that threatened not just Angara itself, but the entire world... And yet...he betrays that trust for what he has becomes now...
I... I do not understand why he felt the need to do such a thing!
Ryugi stood up, shouting his last words to the plains as his hands gripped his head and neck. He buckled forward, panting, falling first to his knees, before falling to all fours as his hands continued to grip his neck and head. Ryugi's voice wasn't mad, it wasn't angry. If anything, it was that certain kind of sadness that manifested itself as forceful words and angry tones. That deep sort of sadness that ate away at someone's heart more painfully than any wound.

It hurt to see a friend in such pain. To taste his sadness like spoiled wine. He wouldn't touch him, that was a bit too much for Maximos. That made the feeling a bit too strong. But he wouldnt leave him. He would never abandon a friend. And after the words calmed and his breath started to even out, Maximos would answer him.
He wouldnt, he couldnt, sugar coat the answer.
Weakness.
He said, very directly. And yet with that unmistakable tracing of compassion.
We all fight. Some fight for ourselves, some fight for others. And when the fight becomes too hard...when we feel we can give our heart and gain nothing...the weak give in. They take the easy way....they leave themselves open to corruption.
He shook his head, eyes locking on the sky.
...I do not know who you lost. But...it helps to remember him as the friend you knew...

Perhaps you are right... Whoever that person is, he is no longer the friend I once knew. For all intents and purposes, my friend is already dead, and that corrupted being is what caused it...
Ryugi huffed and shook his head. What a shame that it had to end this way...
Silver Moonblade is already dead to me... If that thing tries to attack me or anyone else, I'll destroy it... Its an abomination, going against the natural order of things, and whats worse, it threatens to kill and harm more innocent people. I can't let that happen...
I'm sorry if you disagree with me my friend...
Ryugi looked back over at Maximos as he sat back down with his legs bent, arms resting atop his knees.

Maximos simply slowly, and calmly nodded. He simply couldnt argue that fact. If Silver was an abomination and attacked him he would put him down too. It was his job. If Ryugi would kill him...it would likely scar the boy, but Maximos could not disagree. Not without being a hypocrite.
If he is as you say, it is for the best. Your friend died before he ever faced you.
It was sad thing. He knew he had seen something off in that boy at HoH he just could not tell what exactly it was. Those beginnings seeds of weakness are always so hard to read.
...and I'm sorry for your loss.

Thank you Max... It means alot to have a good friend like you to listen to my troubles. You know, its funny... With Silver gone, I'm running low on friends...
Ryugi smiled a bit at his friend, before speaking again.
You know, its faint, but I have a feeling something might be upsetting you as well. Afterall, this place IS a good place to come and think and mull over things...

Maximos said with his bright ear to ear smile. It was that warm, infamous Maximos smile he used to melt the iciest of moments. In the end it served to show him, he didnt need to throw punches to help people solve their problems.

Theres is always a lot going on in here. I'm just cursed with a very busy mind. Being someplace relaxing helps me sleep.
He nodded, sliding his hand around to scratch the back of his head.

He said laughing a bit. Maximos didnt like to confess it, but he really disliked the idea of bugs crawling all over him.
