It took a while for Kurama to fall asleep, since there were things he couldn't get off his mind. Finding the pen, escaping Kasai's territory, and... Hiei.
But he did manage, though even in his dreams, reality refused to leave him.

Hiei napped peacefully for what seemed a long time. With every sound of the forest, he would stirr, but never woke. He did awake, however, when he began to lean to the side off of the tree. He sat himself up straight again and shifted his hazy gaze towards the sleeping fox.
He watched Kurama for awhile, amused by the way his hair was almost spilled over his shoulder from sleeping that way. He remembered how the red-head often kept things in his hair. Curiosity got the better of the youkai and he reached slowly, hand brushing the back of the other's neck as he felt for the rose.

The fox did not wake, but he leaned into the touch, seeming to like it. He was fairly unaware of his surroundings, but since the brushing hadn't been threatening or unfamiliar, he somehow knew it had been Hiei. And that put a slight smile on his sleeping face.

Hiei had just felt the p***k of a thorn against his finger when Kurama leaned. He withdrew the hand sharply, thinking he had woken the fox up. Frozen, he stared. Relief washed over him when he saw the other was still asleep.
Shifting slowly, he decided not to do that again, despite the fact that Kurama's hair had felt very nice against his fingers. He distracted himself by examining the thumb he had sliced into. The blood had dried and the small wound stung and itched slightly. It wasn't unsual that the youkai brought his fingers to his mouth, licking them with a strange grace.

It took a bit for him to realize that the Koorime was no longer touching his hair, but when he did, the red-head moved to rest gently on Hiei. Somehow he felt more content when he came in contact with the fire demon, and couldn't help but do just that.
Kurama was clueless that he was hurt, so he did not coddle him as he might have otherwise. His sleep was a rather deep one, so it wouldn't be easy to wake him until he was ready, which could take a while.

Hiei became confused again. He was very uncomfortable with Kurama being so close and would've liked to slice his hand off and get away. But on the other hand, it soothed him and it was nice. There was more confusion on other things, but he didn't allow them to surface in his mind.
"Kurama," he said, nudging the other. He tried again, and realized it wasn't going to work. The fox was too much asleep.
Clenching his jaw, the jaganshi closed his eyes once more and tried to will himself to sleep again.

After a quite a while, the fox's eyes fluttered open. The whole area was tinted orange, as if the sun was going down, but the first thing he noticed was that he was practically on top of Hiei.
Hoping that he hadn't noticed this, and wouldn't figure it out, Kurama carefully moved over. If his current sleep was deep enough, maybe the bit of awkwardness could be avoided.
And if they hoped to find the pen, hurrying would be a good idea. Within the hour, it would be dark, and they were both more towards the middle of the forest.
Unknown to either of them, the Sharpie wasn't far away, only about a mile from them. And Kasai had been nice enough to mark it.

At the sudden absence of body heat, Hiei snapped his eyes open. A groan sounded as he realized how uncomfortable tree trunks were against the back. He looked at Kurama, and then noticed the lighting change.
"K'so," he spat, realizing it would be dark soon. Rising up, the jaganshi held out a hand. "Now."

Purely to be polite, Kurama took the outstretched hand, letting the other help him up. "What do you suggest we do from here?" he questioned, wanting to know if he wanted to head back, continue looking for the pen, or simply stay there with the fox. If the last was his choice, it luckily wouldn't involve the two women that seemed so focused on manipulating them.

Hiei didn't know. Sure, he wanted to find the damned pen and end this. But it was getting dark and he doubted they would find it before the sun went down completely. And simply heading back wouldn't do any good.
"We can look until the sun sets and then wait until morning or we can just wait now," the koorime shrugged, merely to pass the decision to Kurama.

"We will look until the sun sets," Kurama decided, understanding that the fire apparition didn't really care either way. At least if they looked now, they might make progress and not be so bored. Again, he waited for Hiei to move first, possibly just to not be teased.

Hiei did move first, but was careful not to go too fast. If he did, the binding would pinch them both. And he had had enough of that.
He suddenly had a childish look of irritation on his face. "Kurama, I swear you are going to pay dearly for this. You are going to beg me to release you from slavery."

"I disagree. I will not beg, Hiei," he replied, somehow finding the comments amusing, and to the best of his knowledge only playing along. If the other was serious, he didn't know it... and honestly didn't care. The Koorime wouldn't be too cruel, now would he? Just as long as he had something sweet to distract him.
Soon, they came to a small stream, and in the near distance, it led to a lake, and that body of water marked the center of the forest. Vaguely, Kurama could sense that the psychic had been in this area recently, and guessed that this might be where she had hidden the red marker, so he made a point to pay more attention.
