General VonCarstein ive thought of naming them al, but i only named my special characters. I've found that it helps if you name your HQ characters (including command squad/retinue dudes), Aspiring Champions/ Vet Sarges, and Dreadnoughts. Anything else doesn't really need to be named.

If nothing else gets a name, soldiers that do well and earn promotions get "on the fly" names like bob did.
I want them to have imperial names.

OTOH, if I promote someone for bravery he usually gets a new figure (or if he's already got a special one, like an Aspiring Champion, I convert it a little more to reflect his new status).

I like giving my guys on the fly names. That's how I continue to call one of my justicars Hardcore Justicar because he just won't die XD He took his squad into close combat with eight khorne berserkers. The squad died but it took my opponent 3 rounds to kill off my justicar! Plus he's taken several other shots a lot and doesn't die. I should make him a terminator after all of that XD

My 'Zerkers would seriously respect him after pulling off something like that. Three rounds of close combat against eight of them. And it takes a lot to earn the respect of Khorne's favorite warriors eek

A friend of mine does that, on the fly names. He plays imp gaurd so when one of his units flees when he needs it or misses repeatedly with heavy weapons he names them. A few games later he shows up with all his named people in the Last Chancers.

The seargent and the guy I always choose to die first gets names. Than I would do some little dialogue between the two to break the ice for my opponent if they are somebody who I never played before.
