Shinichi nodded and spat some more water out. Without looking back, he dived into the water and swam out into the devious current. It really didn't help that his nature loved to avoid water, but that shouldn't have anything to do with the actual swimming. He breaststroked further out and went underneath while holding his breath.

The boy swam a little further, then surfaced for water. The cold was beginning to get to his skin, although Shinichi knew from experience that this effect only served to slow down his breathing, allowing him to hold his breath for longer periods. He slowly inhaled, then freestroked forwards, trying hard to not get caught by the current again. Shinichi couldn't hear any of the others, except for Koro-sensei's brief instructions. Paddling hard, he dropped slightly underneath the surface of the water.

Sumire blinked at the sudden appearance of their sensei. She blinked again at the mask that suddenly covered half of his face. "Koro-sensei! What happened to your face?" She was swiftly distracted, however, by the other two jumping into the water and beginning. She clapped her hands and jumped in, too. She immediately struck out for the opposite shore. The current was even stronger than normal because of the rain, and she was having a hard time of it. She didn't make any progress at all, instead expending all of her energy to fight the current.

0/3 Myobi sighed with relief when Koro finally showed up. She immediately headed for the water, not even pausing to smile at Sumire's question. Jumping in, she struck out. But her smaller frame and unfamiliarity with the technique worked against her. She didn't get very far before the current began to push her back. Fighting against the current was only wearing down her strength. But she kept trying.

Sumire stopped paddling and began using arms strokes to pull herself through the water, instead. And it worked. Slowly she was winning against the current. Her breath came in even spurts as she regulated it. Looking up, she was suddenly almost one-third of the way across the river. Heartened by her progress, she kept up her efforts.

1/3 Myobi swam fruitlessly against the stronger current. She wasn't very good at this. She hadn't come to the river to swim every chance she got like the other children. She had preferred to stay inside and read. So when the water began to wash over her head, she panicked. Flailing with eyes wide and a bit frightened, she quickly lost ground. Before she slipped completely under, she took a huge breath of air, trusting in Koro to help her.

Before Koro could spend too much time on the ground, before he noticed that Aya had spent a little too much time under water. Kneeling down on the water and reaching both arms in, he grabbed ahold of the girl and carried her to shore. Patting her back gently, Koro smiled. "Here I thought you were the best swimmer," he told her, smiling.

Aya coughed water out as Koro patted her back. Her nose stung from getting water up it too..."I am the best swimmer!" the little girl told him, getting back up and lower herself into the water. She could get across with no problem! Pushing herself off the edge, Aya swam above the surface out into the river.

As she reached the middle of the river, Aya dunked her head under. She needed to get past this middle stretch and make it to the other side. It was kind of weird that she had gone under and gotten swept away from the current. This time, she would try her hardest not to let it happen. Her legs kicked quickly, pushing her forward as her arms moved ahead of her and then pushed behind.

Her arms were starting to feel like jello as she pushed herself against the current. Changing the angle of her push against the water, Aya headed to the surface to get a breath of water. If she made it, then she would pop up on the other side and could grab onto the edge. The currents below were getting stronger and more water began to fight its way downstream. Hopefully, Aya's arms and legs could withstand the current.

Shinichi surfaced and coughed up some water, his eyes burning from the powerful current. He glared with envy as Aya-san with her ultra special water techniques already reached the other side, slamming his ear against the rive to get the water out. The boy frowned, then took a breath and pumped his arms as hard as he could. Shinichi was already metres downstream from where he started, but that could be counteracted with just a little walking.

Why couldn't he swim against the current? Shinichi waded for a moment, then tried to recall everything he knew about resisting an all-round force. Well, since the current was probably much stronger at the surface, this might mean that he had to dive deeper. Or was the current weaker near the surface? Shinichi hesitated, then dove as deep as he could and swam towards the other side of the river.

Sumire was a little tired from her last effort. She struggled towards the opposite shore, but didn't move forward at all. She was stuck. She blew out her breath in irritation, splashing herself even more. She wasn't quite as thrilled with the rain now. It was proving to be more difficult to swim against both the swollen current and the wind and rain that she'd thought. Still, she couldn't quit. She'd do this. She would.

As he set Aya on the ground, another one of Koro's students went under. This time, it was Myobi. The teacher had been keeping a special on her since her physical stamina and strength were low. Rushing towards where she went under as quickly as he could, he picked her up first by the arm and then scooped her up like a princess. Setting her down to her feet, he let the girl breath. He didn't say anything, but looked at her with deep concern.

Sumire could feel the strength leaving her body as she stalled in the water. She wasn't going anywhere. She decided to dog paddle for awhile to catch her breath. She saw Myobi go under and would have turned back. But in the next instant Koro was there. She felt a flash of relief before she found herself struggling against the current again.

1/3 Myboi felt arms around her as she sputtered and coughed. When she could breath easliy again, she looked up to see Koro. Her face turned crimson and she stuttered, "T-thank you, S-sensei." Her voice was soft as she pushed her hair out of her eyes. "I'm going to get back in the water..." Properly horrified at her inability to say anything intelligent, she spun around and dove straight in. Her arms pumped hard, actually pulling her forward.

"Aw..."Aya said, pulling herself up on the other side of the river. She had won the race! A cheerful smile spread across her face. The air wasn't too cold like last time, since it was raining. The rain kept her warm and at the same temperature as she had been in the water. However, a fire still would be nice. Letting her feet dangle in the water, Aya waited patiently for the other students to make their way over. "You can do it guys!" she said, cheering them on.
