That wasn''t an example, Artemis, that was the actual relationships list from the original HD thread created by Bloom_Wnd. Airhead. XD

If it was done responsibly (which I think it will be), I approve of the chapters idea. I''m not sure I fully understand how you''re going to implement it, since in my mind there are lots of different ways to implement it, but I''m willing to give it a try. If it helps keep things moving them I''m 100% for it.

Bloom, since you have experience with a chapter-based format, and it obviously worked out well for you, would you mind offering us some advice on the matter? If you do not wish to that is fine. =) As for your role in TSW and HD...my little "restart" of TSW is an opportunity for everyone to reinvent their characters (if they want to) in any way they please. You could also create an entirely new character. It''s up to you, do whatever you want. And despite it''s wicked irony, I''d love to have you in HD too if you think you could meet the minimum posting requirements. smile

Gonna post this in SDRP

Quote:
The Chapter System

I've noticed that in most RPGs with multiple people, such ones in forums where players come and go. Life is unpredictable, so to deal with players going inactive and active at various points of the story, this chapter system will allow the story to continue on without much distraction. This system is also to be used to advance the story, much like the chapters in a book.

For a chapter to end...
- A lot of players (5 or more / 50% of the total people signed up), significant to the storyline or otherwise, have gone inactive.
- The storyline have gone astray or stale. In a scene or event that has gone too long, sometimes it is wise to quickly end it or perhaps atleast change the scene or atmosphere to keep the story lively.
- A very significant event has occured that deserves a change.

What the chapter system is to be used...
- To advance the storyline.
- To place more focus on the current active players, and let the inactive ones fade into the background.
- To organize significant events.

Somewhere in the RP, perhaps the first post in the RPG's thread, there could be a list of chapters with each one a summary of the most important occurances that should be noted. It'll help people that go inactive and come back, and will help new players to see what has occured.

Chapters can also direct the RPs to a certain direction by setting up the theme for the new chapter.

It's not original idea, but its a system I was thinking of that can be applied to RPGs.

Please comment, give some more ideas and such. smile

Hokay. Everything's been shipped out from me.

I wanted to put somehting of imporatnce related to the chapter system discussion, but I can't think of anyhting.

Maybe I'm tired or have done too much homework or something. I think I should return to my new game.

Oh, I guess I thought of something:

It should be voted upon if a new chapter should be started so people don't get mad if one starts, especially if they don't know it. Y'know? mrgreen

Actually, and unfortunately, I'm relatively 'new' to message board Rps. I got my original start in a chatroom. There were chapters there, but obviously it functioned very differently.

But if I were to try and do it in a message board, I would mainly use the chapters as a way for a 'jump'. Meaning, two weeks or so takes place in-between the chapters, and characters get a new start every time.

Hell, the chapters I did in the chatroom could often divide the story twenty or thirty years. Kind of cool to play your original character's children's children, but that's an example of one extreme you can be taken to (also, this was done because chatrooms don't get swelled threads, and so each chapter lasted like six months).

Someone should probably decide the sketchy 'end goal' for the chapter, like someone dies, or a place blows up, or they just get somewhere. Once that's been achieved, we move onto the next chapter. Like in a book. Therefore, there's a consistent goal the characters/players are moving towards, and people aren't floating around like so much confused flotsam in a pool of inactivity.

Hehe I actually started in AOL chatrooms playing ADnD, then moved to forums for another rp, then back to chat for another rp, and now I'm in Gaia.

Yeah, the chapters would be used for plot advancement. I'm thinking the jumps forward through time would be used too, and biggers time jumps would possibly used when a lot of people go inactive. But we'll do big jumps if its required or wanted smile . I'm also thinking that we'll do some time jumps without changing chapters, especially if its not going to change much. It would be fun to see characters die of old age, lol. And yes, chapters would last for awhile.

I already have a sketchy goal, but it'll depend on what happens in RP 'cause it might change. Never know what's gonna happen. xd

Loving the chapter thing, Ghost. I think it could be really useful, in Halcyon''s Demise and possibly even TSW. Since HD sort of has a timeline built into it, the chapter system is particularly useful for it. And whenever activity dies down I could just start a new chapter with whoever was still active and wanting to roleplay, jump forward in time a bit, and get the storyline moving again...I suppose if you wanted to take it to another extreme, you could start a new "book" with an entirely different plot, but set in the same world. Wow, that''d be so awesome. XD I''m definitely going to have to do some brainstorming on this. Let''s try it with Halcyon''s first and see how it works out. ^^

I didn''t start out with chatroom RPing, but it was pretty close. My first two RPs were both on Yahoo--one was a Yahoo group (which is kind of like a message board, but our posts were so short it was like chatting) and the other was a Yahoo mailing list, which is where I learned the hard way that taking control of other people''s chars is a no-no. XD (We took control of other''s characters all the time in the group RP, so I was totally stunned to find out that was taboo elsewhere...)

Oh, by the way--I've posted ICly in my thread. Your turn guys. =D

Also, great job with the HD post Ghost. I love the banner. XD One small thing: Celestial should be written with a capital "C". But that's the only thing I saw that was even close to wrong, so big points for you.

lol I got lucky. I started out with a group of uber-selective literates. Like, literally. I think they'd put the literate people here to shame, even though it was in a chatroom. So I was taught quickly what was okay and what was obviously not.

Chapters then, cool. xd

EDIT: Meh, and yes, I will be joining this, and dropping from TSW. I figure it's not a huge deal since I was in TSW already and it's not necessarily like I'm dropping another Rp onto my load, I'm just having it change hands. That okay, Kuri? I should have a bio sent by the end of this week, if not long before, but I just started my senior year last week, so time is a little bit funny.

Plus, I don't have the responsibility for keeping it going. *insert manic/evil laughter* Enjoy, E_G and Kurikins. Enjoy. twisted

Buahahaha. I got big points. Yay, am I winning? Oh and the banner is Ebby Momo's doing, muh lurve bunny is my graphics... engineer? lol.

I got into RPing in chatroom during the last golden years of Dungeons and Dragons, a few years before the release of DnD 3rd Edition. They were great bunch of people, english teachers, a model, librarian, and cops. Only a few handful of teenagers.

Oh and I will enjoy, buahahaha. -schemes-

*grins* Wicked irony it is, then. I look forward to receiving your profile Bloom. Obviously I already know you can roleplay well in Halcyon's so no need for an RP sample. XD

You've tied with a few others. wink I give everybody I meet/know about points, so you've got a lot of competition but so far you're doing pretty well! And tell Ebby thanks. I didn't expect banners. ^^ It looks really cool.
