[ Shattered Innocence ] Our guard only has 6 in it! eek and our band director insists that we need 2 captains x.x Our show is ok this year. It is Disney's Fantasmic; the band can't play it though... did you go to a competition in Columbia this past Saturday? I saw a Disney themed show while I was there; just wondering if that was you. I'm on the Grissom guard. Guard won everything! It makes me so excited! i even caught my opening rifle toss, (solo toss on the first note of the show x_x) though i downsized it from a quint to a quad. I'm not trying to be braggy, but it makes me so happy and bouncy ^___^

We had a competition on Saturday. The guard got a one! **ish very happy** We didn't do nearly as bad as I thought we did.. It could definitely use some improvement, yes.. But I think we did pretty darn well for learning a good bit of it that afternoon!! I've decided that I've been cursed to never be able to throw a parallel correctly again, though... The past few times I've thrown it have not been pretty... At the football game Friday, I tossed it and ended up hitting myself in the side of the head... Talk about painful.. And then at the competition I ended up dropping it.. stressed sweatdrop gonk domokun And at practice about a week before it ended up landing right on the crown of my head... Yeah.. Dangerous tosses!

Parallel tossing can be tough...On the first game last season I got myself in the crown of my head within I think 60 or 70 counts of work. But alls good. First game of this season wasn't bad. Considering it was tonight. Nailed everything on rifle. It's funny because the rifle work is harder than the flag work. So it looks weird to switch between them...
Ever have to do a soup, backhand toss turn around and catch before? That's fun. Especially when you have to go running into it. Oh geesh that was bad...And it hurt when I hit myself that one time at practice. crying

Nope.. Never done one of those... I know why my tosses wouldn't work, though! As it turns out, the flags we're using are longer than normal, and I was trying to toss with my hand at the very end of the silk.. stressed It's been remedied, though, and I'm catching it now!

*is really pissed off now* They locked my thread. I'll rant after I post my question though.
All right, so have any of you girls/guys been in a drum corps or a high level winter guard? What was it like? How tough are they on you? What were auditions like? And most importantly, how should I prepare for auditions? Thanks a lot guys. I love anyone who answers this for me.
*start rant* Sorry, but it really angers me about that. I didn't want this question to be in general guard. Cause someone else isn't going to look through the 18 pages of guard stuff to look to see if someone might have asked it. I wanted to make a discussion that could later be used as a resource for those who wanted to try out and a place where there are definite answers. Seriously. It's a much better thread than "Why do cheerleaders hate band." Answer to that "You're band is probably mean to them and judges them." I'm about to pm the person who locked my thread. I'm so angry about that right now.

I'm a guy, and I'm actually seriously concidering joining Winter Guard. It looks really fun, and all my friends say it's a blast. Plus, it would get me some good excersize, and my social life is crap anyway, so why not? I would do that in the spring, and Marching Band in the fall. It seems fun to me ^^

I'm going to do winterguard this year.. A few of the other girls in our guard did it last year, and they said it was kind of challenging.. We're actually putting some of the work they did then into our show, and it's tough!

Hm...is new, but is going to post a random introductiony thing.
First off I am in Warren Central Highschool's Color/Winter Guard. To those of you who've heard/ seen us I'm that good bitches! Nah, I'm just kiddin' 'bout that last part. For those who haven't, well, you should sometime...
I'm a freshman, my first colorguard season's done, but Winterguard has just started, it's my second season of that. I am in Warren Central's Open Guard because I am just that talented. I can through a four and a half so am on the verge of a five on rife, a double on flag, and I'm not sure about sabre, since I haven't spun it for a season, but last year (AAA) I was tossing a quad. That's about it.
I'm just curious if anyone's going to the WGI Championship in April or to the Nashville Power Regional in March. If you are then I look foreward to competing with you guys!

Vegyangel All right, so have any of you girls/guys been in a drum corps or a high level winter guard? What was it like? How tough are they on you? What were auditions like? And most importantly, how should I prepare for auditions? Thanks a lot guys. I love anyone who answers this for me. I tried out for and made Spirit, but I didn't do it (for medical reasons). Auditions...I can tell you about that. They started up (at 7 or 8 in the morning, pretty decent) with stretches and abs and shiz (For example: Ever done that exercise where you lay on your back and lift your legs -slowly- into the air and then slowly lower them? Yeah, well they had us do about 50 of those as part of the warmup. And we ran a couple of laps. Prolly only a mile. and we did calf raises to this really long song. charlie horse stressed ) Did some basic dance stuff, across the floors with some turns and jumps and whatnot. Wasn't that bad. Flags: warmed up with some long-a** basics exercises. 5&5s (500 dropspins off the right 500 off the left, then 500 peggyspins off the right, then off the left. Ow) they taught us some work (they moved really fast) that was really hard but really fun. Anyway, then we went outside and learned mock drill. (It was actual drill for their show, but that wouldn't your actual spot if you made it, follow?) The drill wans't too bad, but some people had trouble. My HS did lots of fast/difficult drill, though. Then you put some work to the drill. Repeat until like, midnight, with 2 breaks for food. They did weapon tryouts (inside...it made me nervous) warmed up 100 off the right, 100 off the left, double time, backhands (right and left), and finally tosses. single double triple quad five. Yup. Same for sabres, but without the backhands and double time. Then a quick little blurb of a routine, and that was it. We found out who made it later. You were on your own for food, and most people left to buy food. Two girls (from Tennessee, I think) brought a pack of bread and peanut putter and a jar of jelly and ate that all camp. They were the smart ones, IMO. It was fun, but man, you were so sore after. I could barely climb into the car when it was time to leave because my muscles didn't want to move that way cause they hurt. (so bring the pain killer/muscle relaxant!) But yeah, thats just auditions. Like I said, I didn't end up marching for medical reasons ( crying ) SO, my advice is to build up your endurance, mostly. And if you're going for weapon, work on those 5s/6s/backhands/doubletime/cool stuff like that. Have good techinque.
