MeloenNERD i prefer long hair, it shows off more her innocence side and she is so cute and innocent >w<...the short hair makes her look so rough..it just doesnt match her character I disagree that it doesn't match her character because by the end of season 4, she was far from innocent. I do agree that in the beginning, it was fitting, but the cut was mean to be an outward sign of the inward change. Gabrielle was definitely a grown-up by then, and she needed to look it. For Gabrielle, I loved the shaggy short hair, especially right after a fight, when it was sticking out all over the place. So cute! heart For Renee O'Connor, I loved the shoulder-length layered thing she has going now. I never liked her with hair the color of anything but blonde.

Nah, Gabby looked adorable with brown hair when she was impersonating Xena in The Greater Good. Long brown hair. I liked it.

I think with short hair Gabby looks older and I for some reason respect her more. But with long hair Gabby looks very young and sweet, plus a bit naive.

I thought the brown hair did not compliment her complexion at all. So I agree that Renee looks good in blond. And that almost kinda strawberry blond.

I liked the short hair a lot, especially in Who's Gurkan? when she had it up in corn rows. I thought I was going to die of lust! Mmm!

Hahah quiet and emotional.
I never really thought about it before, but it's true. But that just proves the great character developement through the show 3nodding
Seriously, watch an episode from season 1, then one from season 6...they're both complete different people really.
I heart it

I heart it But you can have character development without doing damage to the characters core personality! Sure, people change. But it's our characteristics that change. We all have a core personality that identifies us as who we are from birth until death. No matter how your interests, speech patterns, actions, or even base emotions change, we'll still have that core personality. That's the problem with characters in long stories. They tend to lose it through attempts at character development. You said "they're both completely different people". Well, that's true. It doesn't matter whether her characteristics change or not. She simply isn't Gabby anymore. (Sorry, that was total babbling and had nothing to do with her hair. sweatdrop )

She simply isn't Gabby anymore. (Sorry, that was total babbling and had nothing to do with her hair. sweatdrop ) I think she was still Gabrielle. She just ended up gaining more knowledge. By the end of season 6, she still didn't like to kill people. Why else wouldn't she kill the leader of the army that decapitated her best friend in the world? She didn't really believe in revenge still (In Who's Gurkhan?, she managed to stop herself from killing him) unless it was directed towards her (Legacy, anyone?). Personally, I like what happened with Gabrielle, but I really liked sweet and innocent Gabrielle a lot too.
Also, since when does this guild stay on topic? hahaha.

Hehe, we never stay on topic, but I think the whole hair cut/characterization thing is related. Renee and Rob both wanted to express the fact that Gabrielle was more of a grown up, and they came up with the hair cut idea. Gabrielle still had issues with killing, and she still wanted to promote peace, but she had learned by then that sometimes, you just have to punch people's lights out to get them to stop bothering you...at least in her and Xena's world, where people were constantly chasing them down to kill them, that was true. As far as asthetics, I love the short-haired Gabrielle. She was tougher and sexier. I will always hold long-haired Gabrielle dear in my heart, though, for all the ideals she stands for and the sweet, naive, innocence she represents. I love them both dearly for very different reasons, I guess.
