The calm is lovely. They hug, they joke, they talk and relax. They patch up the injured. The days of stress at an end, they finally can breathe out, calm and easy. And into this lovely moment, this small, brief victory, comes the sound of great wings: air flapping, metal feathers shifting against metal feathers. Through the damage and the windows, they can see a dark monsters approaching against the gloom of evening. She lands in the courtyard outside the hotel, opening her mouth to let out a silent scream of challenge, and spreads her wings in a threatening way. Vulture-like, she's not at all like the small birds they've attacked before: this one is the height of the building or taller, a monster out of legends. Where she was hidden isn't clear, but it must have been high enough that the speakers didn't reach her. Only the death of her small army drew her down. She screams again. No sound comes out. And inside the hotel, the civilians freak out, taking cover. Brynn, however, doesn't. Instead, she draws the great crossbow from behind a couch, settling it on her shoulder with shaky hands, and looks to the other Prytaneum staff for aid. Chris nods his understanding and agreement, bringing out his monster of a trident, and turns to the rest. "We have to take her down." His voice carried well, echoing into the quiet. "Any Chosen who can fight, now is the time to fight." And he'd lead the charge, if they'd follow, out of the fortified hotel and out into knee-deep snow. __________________________________________ OOC:A giant monster of a bird has landed outside of the hotel! Huh? Hugs? Mercy rolled her eyes and made her way over, about to grumble about hugs and what not when she thought she heard something, causing her to pause mid-step, turning her head around to look and see if she was maybe hearing things? They did defeat ALL of the birds right? She got her answer when she saw the civilians running for cover and Brynn grabbing her crossbow. Mercy sighed and gave Rob and Sid an apologetic smile, grabbing her hammer and heading out after Chris. She was an Ares chosen, didn't that mean she NEEDED to be out on the frontlines? The small woman waded out into the knee deep snow, raised her hammer above her head [ a bit of a challenge since she was kinda tired ] and chucked it up at the bird with as much power as she could manage. She wasn't expecting it to hit, but the clang that resounded from her hammer making contact got her blood flowing, especially since it looked like her hit did some damage! Now she just needed to go pick up her hammer. [Mercy HP: 50] 10 dmg

The return of the kiss had been both surprising and pleasing, and she filed that away to examine later. Sid was all too aware of the eyes on them for their public display, but rather than embarrassed, she preened, drinking in the attention. The pretty girl with the black hair shouted something about a room and Sid's grin got wider, a hand on her hip as she thrust it out. "Maybe we will. There are enough of them." She joked, even as Rob opened up his enveloping hug to include one of the other girls. Tara? She remembered fighting beside her and the other guy, Zebulon. Leaning forward, she planted a kiss on her cheek before she grinned again. "More the merrier." She murmured. Luckily for the rest of them, probably, it didn't have time to go much past that. There were loud noises, metal on metal, outside the hotel, and the older chosen were looking grim when she glanced to them. Wriggling out of Rob's hold, she straightened her quiver and drew an arrow out of it by feel, tucking it into her bow ******** me..." Sid breathed, eyes widening when she caught sight of what had joined them. "We woke up Mama bird..."Some of the heady rush of victory was fading now, replaced with a chilly seriousness. Sid ran with the others to find a good position to shoot from, a glance spared for her friend as she went to keep tabs on him. Once safe behind a section of wall, Sid braced her feet apart and took aim, releasing to send the arrow flying. It plinked off the metal feathers, but it was hard to tell at this distance how much damage had been done. If any. Her bow was looking kinda small... Brian startled at first when the giant buzzard appeared. He had been expecting a person to be behind this, but who not a much larger, much stronger bird? He reflexively wheeled around and took a step in front of Misha, drawing his bow. Damnit! He should have been retrieving arrows!
Hopefully there were enough attacks in the charge that no one of them would be the express target of the Boss Bird. He glanced back toward Misha with only his eyes and fired at the behemoth.

Mathilda stared at the massive bird in front of her. It was huge, and looked very ticked off. Looking at the other Chosen around her. She stood up tall and walked forward calmly, lashing out her dagger, aiming straight for the birds chest.

Tom flinched a bit as he heard the screeching outside. And it wasn’t just from the bird yelling. That metal grating against each other was going to do a number on his ears. Great. Tom thought to himself as he looked out to where the giant bird was. Now they would have to go out there and fight in the snow. They certainly couldn’t attack the bird in the hotel now could they? It would be quite ineffective to shoot an arrow at something with a wall in-between.
He sighed and grabbed the plain long bow that he had been using for the time being. He would need to get a better one in the future. He looked to make sure that the civilians were away from what would probably be the main area of the fighting and walked out the now-open front door into knee-deep snow.
Well, at least he wouldn’t be moving too much so he could aim better. Of course that also meant he was pretty much a sitting duck right now too. He aimed his bow.

The kisses from both of them were a shock, and Tara's face was a definite pink. Still, she was smiling and laughing, and... well, it was genuine. They had won, they were ok, and yes, people were saved.
But the good times were far, far too brief.
"Someone order KFC?" She wasn't sure if anyone even heard the joke, and well. Tara's nerves were shot at this point. More of these ********? What was this, the mother? When Sid ran out to get into position to fire, Tara followed her, unsure of where else to go or what to do.
Taking aim, it certainly wasn't a hard target to locate, but her arrow only grazed the creature, and she winced, unsure how of how much damage they could really do to the thing.
Whimsical Blue Tara's staying near Sid, but this is gonna be it for quotes probably! Quote: Tara HP: 47 /47 DMG: 3 Damage Total: 29

"I have this absolutely inappropriate craving for KFC." Mal hesitated in the doorway for only a beat before he followed the rest of the Chosen out into the snow against the -- he was going to call it a giant chicken. A giant evil chicken.
Sometimes a little whistling in the dark could make anyone feel better. "For the colonel!" came out of his mouth as he hacked at the nearest unoccupied bit of bird. Why not? At least it was funny.

The arrival of the bird had abruptly put a stop to all feelings of warm-n-fuzzy. As well as any burgeoning thoughts of how far one could take one's teasing with a certain gentleman who seemed not at all adverse to her cuddles.
Furious and frustrated, Misha felt her temper flare and she hissed a low and absolutely filthy curse in Arabic as Brian released her. When he moved to step in front of her and thus offer his protection, though, she took a deep, centering breath. His quick glance back at her before firing the arrow earned a glorious, fierce smile. "Well, s**t," she said cheerfully. "Mama's home."
As she stepped around him with her own intention of attacking, her fingers brushed his hip in unspoken reassurance. Then she set her jaw, ducked her head, and raised her buckler as she slammed the weapon into the nearest birdy appendage.

Ernst wasn't really a fighter, but he sure knew how to get his tower shield off his back and hide under it. He'd have just stayed near the back - he'd lost sight of the people he could call his friends (Zan, maybe? Davor?) in the chaos of defending against the birds and had spent the brief downtime just waiting for instructions, because they were supposed to go back, right? Had they been looking for more survivors?
Who knew, he'd been thinking. Then the silhouette of a bird even bigger than the ones they'd been fighting rose, and he had to bring his shield up by instinct. He'd have run - but that was for civilians now. They did have weapons. Ernst was gonna use his. If he didn't die. Haha.
That was a great thought, right?
He was surprised to say that he did recognize a lot of the people on the front lines - mostly from the ski slopes. That was undoubtedly a good thing. Someone could identify him if he fell.

"Oh you have GOT to be JOKING," Rob moaned. Releasing the two women, he retrieved his greatsword and ran for the door and out to where the massive bird awaited. As soon as he was within range, he swung the big sword and hit the thing in the leg, cutting it deeply though not enough to do serious harm to it -- just enough to be painful and piss it off.

The growing sound of metal feathers was met with a thin grimace and and sigh from Zebulon. Of course there were more birds. And this time he'd have to get close, as tempting as it was to pretend that he was unable to fight. He really didn't want to get close to whatever this silently screeching vulture was. Instinct told him that this was most definitely a Bad Idea, and he was in the habit of listening to good instincts. He murmured to Diryas, "This will be over soon, I hope," before lifting his shield off his back and heading outside into the mounds of snow and flapping angry metal feathers. As much as he dreaded being this close, he moved in to make a swipe at the metal vulture's legs with his shield. Quote: HP: 56/56 Damage: 6 Damage Total: 55

He was behind the first wave, and Asher wasn't exactly thrilled about that -- but he raced out when he could all the same, drawing up short for a moment at the startling sight of a bird large enough to catch him in her beak. Eyes wide, he hesitated, and that hesitation cost him the moment.
He lashed out, but it was weak, lacked real force. Still, he wasn't hiding, at least...

It hadn't struck yet, which probably meant that Ernst should press his advantage. Right?
Haha, that probably actually meant that he'd be caught in the blast radius when it did attack. It was okay, though: he could totally run back like a coward. He'd never said he was this kind of brave, when he'd been signing up for this. He was surprised how easy it was to just thrust his shield upwards and strike, but was quick to scurry back.
Not...too far back, though. A lot of people didn't have shields.
Yeah, okay, Ernst wasn't much of a hero, but even though he hadn't been one of those people who'd constantly been venturing out to kill birds, he knew how to hold his shield in the air and let people with actual offensive weapons stay behind it. "We can do this," he told whoever was nearest him with an air of determination.

Zebulon swung his shield back around in an attempt to knock the vulture off its feet, but he found it really wasn't very effective. It was probably because they were using metal against metal, admittedly. Or maybe it was because this was a Bad Idea. Quote: HP: 56/56 Damage: 3 Damage Total: 70
