The hybrid glanced around at her classmates, and wondered what they were writing about. She knew there were a few Hallowed in the class, and they were probably writing about their own discrimination. It was certainly the greatest example of stereotyping in their society, but Brynn wanted to write about something else. She didn't enjoy these good two-shoes papers, as if the teachers were trying to give them a life lesson they didn't already learn. Maybe it was important to reflect, but it didn't make Brynn happy about it.
Stereotypes are, unfortunately, rampant amongst races. For example, lots of people don't understand Goblins because their culture is so secretive. However, I've met some pretty nice Goblins over my years at the Academy. There are lots of alliances between races that still stand strong, like between the Grimms and the Nixies. Sometimes they seem to be the only other people they'd hang out with.
Thankfully, here at the Academy there's a lot of openness about race and there's barely any discrimination because of it. I think once you get out into the real world, and in places where races are dominant, that kind of discrimination can be very real. Even me, as a hybrid, I've hardly felt any discrimination since I started attending and it means a lot. But I'm sure there are people who often feel singled out because of their race.
One way to avoid this is to just treat everyone like people. They say not to judge a book by its cover, and I think this definitely applies.
Brynn grimaced at her paper. This was a touchy subject, and it was hard for her to put into words. She hoped she did well.

Niamh bounced in to take her quiz, and settled down. She'd studied, she was sure she was ready for this! When she looked down at the paper, though, her stomach sank. She didn't remember ANY of this. She tried, but didn't pass. She glowered at it, and murmured "I'll study more and maybe I can try again..."

Niamh came back and tried again. The questions were different, and more challenging this time, but she persevered and managed to complete the quiz with PLENTY of time. She ran to the front, and turned it in, then went and waited at her desk. Finally, after what seemed like forever, the teacher returned her quiz to her, with her grade. She was excited to find that she had passed this time, when she got her quiz back. She wished she had done BETTER, but still! She knew she'd study even harder for next time. She got up, hugging the paper to her chest, and packed her bag to go, thinking about the ones she had missed, and trying to decide what she could do to improve her score for next time, outside of just studying her books. She wondered if any of her friends would be interested in doing practice quizzes and flashcard sessions together.

Thoth panicked as the tests were handed out. A pop quiz? But they didn't even know what the test was on!
Thoth glanced over the questions with increasing dread.
1. List the names of the Nine.
2. Correctly fill in the names of the regions on this map.
3. In what year did the Swirling Sands start?
4. ...
Gulping, Thoth squeezed their eyes shut, and for a rare change, went plumbing for the bossy voice that constantly nagged and jibed. Maybe it would know the answers...
Uh... Well, let's see... the voice began reluctantly. Maybe if you just start filling in the ones you know for sure. And then come back to think on the other ones... A partial answer is better than nothing...
By the end of the allotted time, Thoth still had less than half of the answers filled out. The teacher looked over the quiz and gave a disappointed, albeit gentle look at them.
"Perhaps you should study the text a little more and try again."
* * * Hawthorn rose up a little higher in his chair. A test? He only hoped he'd studied the right sections of the textbook sufficiently.
With tidy neat rows of handwriting, Hawthorn methodically went through the questions, answering each to the best of his ability.
1. Asteria, Cyllenus, Eleusinia, Eleutheros, Enyo, Kallistos, Kthonios, Oreia, Mnemosyne.
2. Auster, Boreas, Euros, Zephyros.
3. 60 years ago.
4. ...
And so it went on. There were some questions he felt fairly confident about and others that he was still unsure of. He handed his quiz in and the teacher swiftly went through making ticks and X's.
"Nicely done, Hawthorn. But you will want to watch your spelling. It is 'Eleuthereus'. And you have confused the 50 Year War with the Swirling Sands, here." And the teacher handed back the marked sheet.
86%? Hawthorn's mouth pressed into a thin line. It was an A, but only barely. That wasn't good enough. He would clear his schedule tonight and study twice as hard.

Thoth sighed heavily, sitting at their desk after class with a few of the other students who had failed the test. A fresh quiz sheet lay on the desk before them and they prepared to do better this second time.
The questions were different, and there were still many they didn't know. But scraping every corner of memory, Thoth dutifully filled out every question this time. As the voice had directed, some answer was better than a blank.
By the time Thoth finished, most of the other students had already completed theirs and left. The teacher marked through the answers and gae a sort of resigned shrug.
"Better, but you still have a lot to learn. It's a pass, but I'd like to see you apply yourself more, Thoth."
Thoth nodded unhappily and took back his marked test, creasing it to hide the thick C+ marked at its top.

Rasia sat at her desk, her glittery pen in hand. Tests were so boring and stupid! Well to be fair that's how she felt about school in general. She stared at the test for a solid few minuntes before she took a deep breath and started filling out some of the answers. She giggled quietly, she actually knew some of these! She worked on the questions she knew for sure first before going to some of the other ones. There were a few that she took some guesses on a few of them, she was sure that at least half of the ones she guessed on were right. Then there were a few she left completely blank. There was no point in even trying with those ones.
When she finished she turned it in and watched the teacher quickly grade her test. There was a lot of red on it and it was beginning to make her nervous. Well, between beauty and brains she'd much rather take beauty. The test was handed back to her, 56%! She didn't fail after all!

A mini quiz? That sure didn't sound like much fun to Jacintha, but of course she wasn't in school to have fun (As sad as that sounded to her). No, she was in school to get an education. Well, at least that was what she had been told. Her reason for doing school work was to make lots and lots of friends! Anyhow, time for the mini quiz!

She had failed miserably. Only three percent? How was that even possible?! After quickly looking over the quiz, she decided to give it a second try, without studying of course. Why would she have to study for such a little quiz? Turns out all she needed was a second shot at the quiz, getting a passing grade this time around. Huh, how had she done so badly the first time? Maybe she had just rushed through it way too fast instead of actually reading the questions.

Quizes weren't such a bad thing, and this one was said to be a small one too. Surely it wouldn't be too hard to pass right? Getting his pencil ready right before he was handed the quiz, he began to look over the questions and answer them once given the permission to start.

He had barely missed the passing mark. Oh well! He was okay with it because he was getting a second chance! Making sure to think over his answers even more this time, Vivek was sure he would pass it. If not, he would just try again... and again... and again... Oh dear, hopefully this wouldn't take too long! It was a good thing he had ended up passing the second time, a sigh of relief escaping his lips as he looked at the passing score. Who this quiz had been harder than expected. Perhaps he should study more?

Willow didn't have time to study. Usually, he did. Usually, Willow was well prepared for any test that arrived, whether planned or not. The past week was not a kind one. Lapis had been sick, which meant Willow had fretted. Despite her reassurances, Willow had spent his entire time not in school with her, either reading her a story or holding her hand as she slept. Finally, the day before, she had gotten better, but that wasn't enough time to catch up on his studies. Luckily, he just barely passed the test, sighing in relief. It wasn't a grade he was proud of, but he passed.

Lynx didn't mind a test, there was worst things that he could have to do. But this seemed really easy so he quickly wrote down the answers or what he thought was the answers. Then he wrote his name on the top ans turned it in smiling, now he could go outside an play.

Thankfully today was a test day and not a pairing up in groups day. Mitra breathed a sigh of relief as the test was handed out. She just wasn't feeling trying to bridge that communication gap today. The naga quickly got to work, filling out the answers with the utmost faith. Sure there were a few she hadn't been exactly sure on, but she knew the pros outweighed the cons and that she knew more answers than she was unsure.
She finished the test, satisfied with her work and turned it in. She waited anxiously to see her results. After what felt like ages, her test was returned to her, a few red markings on the paper. She passed! Perfect! Mitra beamed with happiness as she slithered back to her desk.

The class was going by slower than usual for the fallen. He continuously looked at the clock, watching as the hands ticked by painfully slow. It was good though because he had to finish this assignment before the class was over. He stared down at his blank piece of paper, for some reason this assignment was proving to be extremely difficult for him. Esrael himself had never really encountered any type of stereotyping. The friends he had were all very open minded and wouldn't do something like that, that's why they were his friends. On top of that, he himself had never been subject to anything like that.
Rae groaned as he finally put his pencil to the paper.
'Stereotyping is around all of us, most of it stems from race. There are certain races that deem things that deem things taboo and other races that don't, they're considered odd or weird. There's also the cause of mutants, people always look at them oddly or act strange around them. They're just like any other person, but we see them as their label 'mutants' and that's all some people see. It takes a lot for some people to break free of what others would consider the norm and when someone does, they get judged for it.'
He wasn't exactly happy with his work, but at least it was something.

A quiz? Evelyn had never had to do a quiz before. She bit her lip and crossed her fingers as she turned it in. She hoped she'd done well...she'd heard so many horror stories about quizzes! Everyone said they were really scary! Even Talya said that. What if she didn't pass?
