Although the little hybrid was very much fond of keeping their personal space, she wasn't quite okay with talking about it. She'd much rather write it out rather than, ya know, talking about it. "Personal space is important so everyone is comfortable." Chicory felt as though if they weren’t family or really close friends, they shouldn’t be that close. She wasn’t even really comfortable with friend hugs at this point, but she was trying to get a little better, especially with some of the more… excitable nightmares.
"If I'm too uncomfortable, I'll move back. I don't want to be uncomfortable nor do I want to make someone else uncomfortable. It's really hard..."

As Annabelle snuggled up closer to her sister Moka, she couldn't help but grin. Who needed personal space? She was perfectly content being close to others. "Well, I suppose it's something you should ask about. If they seem uncomfortable, step back. If they seem okay, you should be okay.” She wasn’t overly concerned about it, but she didn’t want to not answer the teacher’s questions.
"I don't feel like I would ask anyone about personal space. I like people being close, it makes me happy." She shrugged, "But if I had to, I'd ask them to please step back." Worse case, she would just leave. Easy peasy.

Brynn was excited to hear that they wouldn't be going outside and running today, but instead working on little first aid kits! She thought about how she might need one for if she cut herself or pricked her finger while sewing, and decided to assemble one for that purpose. She put some finger band-aids and some gauze in, as well as an anti-infection cream. The hybrid paused, then decided it might be best to include a bit of alcohol, too. Putting the lid on the canister, she grinned, feeling proud of her work.

Niamh blinked a little at the question and bit her lip, thinking. "I... I don't know. I'm not so good at telling when people are not comfortable being super close... I like being close to people." She went silent, and then said "Once I can tell some one is uncomfortable though, I would back off and let them choose the space they're comfortable with... I've never had anyone make me uncomfortable though! I guess if I did get uncomfortable, I'd tell them nicely?" She nodded and smiled happily. "Yes, I think that would work! Certainly, when people tell me things like that, I know what to do!"

Personal space? Thoth didn't really know what that was like... On the one hand, they felt utterly alone, even when they were with other people. Every once in a while, their closest friends could quiet the voice in their head and help them feel like they belonged. When that happened, Thoth just wanted to be close, to be touched, or held, or near.
No means no. the voice prompted.
"Please stop...!" Thoth whined at it, wanting it to be quiet. They were in class, and its nagging was only going to get them in trouble.
There you go! Teacher ought to accept that answer. And you delivered it with such feeling!. The voice seemed pleased with itself, as if it were laughing in their ear.
Not for the first time, Thoth wish that it were tangible so they could give it a swift kick to the shin. It was such a bully!
* * * Hawthorn thought about that. How much space was enough personal space. Six inches should be sufficient space between people at any given time. And if someone entered that bubble...? "Can we not simply say, 'Excuse me, you are too close.'?" It seemed a simple thing to inform another of one's needs. If they would not comply, then the option remained to remove oneself from that space. But, with exception of one not being able to comply, why should anyone wish intentionally to be a bother?
He saw it happen, of course. All the time. And he never could understand it. Hawthorn turned his attention to his fellow classmates to listen to their answers, to study their faces, as if he could somehow glean the strange thinking that could enable someone to wilfully disregard another.

Edit 4-19-16 1:26pm PST Fixed some grammar issues I saw and changed the response some to fit Jacintha's personality more. Personal space? Jacintha was never really good with giving others personal space. She was always getting into other people's bubbles and such, but she knew that she needed to do less bubble breaking and bubble poking. What was she doing to make sure she respected other people's personal space? Hmm... When it was her turn to answer, she found herself just blurting out a whole bunch of words on the topic. "Giving others personal space is a big issue for me. I tend to invade other people's space a lot. However, I know it is a problem so I have been trying to do a few things to respect someone else's personal space. First off, I apologize if I realize I have invaded someone's personal space. I don't want them to think I don't care about their boundaries. I just have trouble with not popping bubbles because I tend to be really outgoing. Second, I try and ask to do things that could be considered personal space, like giving hugs, asking to be someone's project buddy, or sitting by someone at lunch. Sometimes others just don't want to have someone be in their personal space, and that is okay! We are all different, and that is what I find so fascinating about others!"

When it was Vivek's turn to tell what he did, he nervously stood up and played with his hair tails some. What was it he did to respect other's personal space? ", Well, I try to keep a certain distance from others during conversation? About an arms length away. That way I'm not bumping into them or breathing today's pizza lunch breath into their face. I also try to think about what my personal space is, and apply that to how to treat others. If I wouldn't like to be jumped on for a hug, I don't do that to others."

Boy, did he think Korvau needed this lesson.
"You don't crowd on them. Or sit on them. Or tackle. Or throw yourself at them even when they say no." All things Korv did. "If they continue to do so, you nicely tell them stop. Grabbing them by the sweater and pulling them forcibly off makes them cry, so you don't do it." That and you don't push them by the face, but he learned that the hard way when Nex decided to loom over in in over-protective mode. Good times, good times.
With that done, he continued to examine his bag, wondering if throwing a bag over Korv's face was an appropriate response. Probably not.

Vederat shuffled guiltily. Personal space was something that his friends had occasionally mentioned. Well, not friends. Not plural, anyway--Sound Lee didn't seem to care. Mostly it was Aura that complained when he got too close. He shot them a look, but they weren't looking at him, so instead, he looked up at Kirket. What was it Aura had said? "You respect someone else's space by listening to them and leaving them alone when they tell you to leave them alone. That's how you get personal space, too--you tell them to leave you alone, and if they're good, they'll do that. Sometimes they don't," he added. He blushed. "Um, I'm guilty of that a lot." Sound Lee reached over and patted Vederat on the shoulder. He knew how difficult it had been for Ved to say that--Ved was very affectionate, and he sometimes got a little...pushy. He meant well, though. Sound Lee looked up at their teacher. "You respect someone else's place by asking them before you do anything," he murmured. "Unless you know them very well. I know Vederat, so I can pat him on the shoulder. But if he asks me not to, then I shouldn't touch him." He gave his friend a smile, then continued. "You get personal space by asking someone to please give you some space. If they don't give you space, you should move away and tell an adult." Aurabelle nodded in approval. Their boys had answered the question quite well. What else could be added? "Not everyone likes people coming into their personal bubble. Some of us have very large bubbles. Part of making new...acquaintances is learning how big their bubble is and staying out of it. But you can't push someone out of your bubble--they could get hurt." And you'd get in trouble for it, they added mentally. They didn't dare say that out loud, though. "You have to let them know that they're bothering you and that you need them to get out of your bubble." Fenaret thought about the question for a while. It was a complicated one, to be sure. He'd had discussions about it with his little brother, though, so he knew he had the answer in him. "Personal space is very important, and you have to respect it, because otherwise you make people feel uncomfortable and unsafe. You respect someone else's personal space by never doing anything that would make them uncomfortable. Like hugging them or patting them on the head. If you aren't sure if they like it, you have to ask. Even if they say yes, you have to stop if they change their mind. If anyone ever does something that makes you uncomfortable or invades your space, you tell them. And like someone else said earlier, if they keep doing it, tell a responsible adult. Like a teacher."

Akylan wasn't sure why everyone was finding this so hard to do. He smirked and stuffed a small roll of band aids into the canister which fit rather easily and nicely with no problem. He added a couple q tips and nodded, feeling that it was more than done. He was more than happy with himself, leaning back in his chair now that he was done.

Kiessi was able to fit a good amount of band aids in the container, along with some antiseptic and a couple of cotton balls. Thankfully the lid had fit on nicely when they were finished. They were glad they hadn't had to do as many attempts as some of the other students.

Syndri didn't have as easy a time as some of the other students. At first they were sure they had placed in too many band aids and had to rework it all to make it fit, but when they placed the lid on they were surprised that it went on pretty easily.

Meliae kind of blinked at the question, not entirely sure how to answer. She generally didn't have very much problem with people giving her space, though she supposed she might have violated someone's space a time or two before, which really made her think about what she could do to not have that happen again. "I guess I could ask someone if it's okay to touch them, or to sit next to them." She answered in response to the first question. The second part was a little bit trickier though. "I think I'd just ask them to please stop, and if that wouldn't work than I might have to tell a teacher, or someone else who could help."

Lorek fidgeted uncomfortably in his chair. The question didn't exactly sit well with him. He wasn't all that good around people, it all made him really uncomfortable. He preferred a good word problem or assignment he could do on paper, but he knew he had to pass this class all the same. "Ummm... I... generally don't try to get close to people, unless they want me to. I figure I really shouldn't bother them, just in case they don't like being touched or something." The next question was what had him nervous, other than talking to a crowd in general. "I tend to avoid crowds and people if I want some space. I figure it's better to not engage if I don't want people to engage with me."

((I put them all in the same post to save time. I put their number in their entry for ease of grading. I'm really sorry if this is inconvenient, confusing, or just hard to read, Nep--let me know if it is, and I won't do it this way again!)) ---------------------- Oo, first aid kits? This actually sounded really useful, and Quilo was looking forward to trying it out. He picked up the materials and began packing. He hoped he would do well.14 By the end of the period, he was satisfied with how well he had done. After it had been graded, he slipped it in his pocket and went to his next class with a bounce in his step.---------------------- Kunibert couldn't really understand when this would ever come in handy--he hardly ever did anything that took him far away from actual medical professionals. But if this was their activity, then that's what it was... he scooped up the materials and got to packing things in.6 Kuni's enthusiasm showed in the sloppiness of his work--he did a passing job at it, though not as well as he could have done. Oh well--he shrugged. Packing things away in a small space was not really this thing.---------------------- Naihilus could see how this would be handy in a variety of situations--like when taking a walk, or hiking, or just...doing anything, really. He worked hard at it, hoping he did well--if he did, then he would carry this in his pocket at all times!11 Naihilus was proud of the job he had done. His roommate hadn't done as well, but that was sort of to be expected. Ah, well. Smiling softly to himself, he slipped his first aid kit into its new home in his pocket.---------------------- Ustule smiled. This was the best idea ever! She'd been looking forward to it ever since she'd heard what the freshlings had done. She eagerly picked up her canister and got to work.((Ustule's already passed this class, so this isn't for class credit.)) 8 Ustule did not do as well as she had hoped she would, but she had been able to fit everything inside, at least. She resolved to work on it a bit more in the future, until she had it just right.---------------------- Sara grinned. This was more like it! No running amok in class or doing laps, just some nice, simple work so that she could keep herself and any companions safe. She instantly thought of Maria and Neptune, as well as Deni and Niol. Hopefully they would be doing this activity as well...12 Sara had done quite a good job with her first aid kit. She sat down with a smile, tossing it from hand to hand. She couldn't wait to ask her brothers how well they had done!---------------------- Aw yeah, first aid kits! Deni was excited for this activity--he loved hiking, and the opportunity to make something he could use while experiencing the great outdoors was right up his alley. He hoped they would get to do more things like this in the future. He looked over at Niol to see how he was doing.4 Whoops. He had spent so much time worrying how Raniol was doing that he had done a poor job with his canister--not everything fit! Embarrassed, he pulled everything out and started again.((Reroll in next post)) ---------------------- Well, it wasn't running around in circles, which meant that his boundless energy was not being burned off, but hey, this would be helpful in the future. He could use this to fix himself up when he was hurt (he added more sticking plasters), and would maybe make his family stop thinking he was so irresponsible. Seriously, people, why do you think Raniol is irresponsible? He gave his brother a grin and a thumb's up and got back to work.16 Even with extra bandages in his can, he had done very well packing his can. Deni wasn't doing as well. "D'yah need help, Deni?" he asked. Stubbornly, his twin shook his head. Niol shrugged. Deni did that a lot--refusing his help, that is. He knew better than to push it.
