The volley of shotgun fire gave Megan time to catch her breath before she was on it again, swinging the rod like a mad woman. The sprouting tendrils came up to meet her almost immediately in defense.

Instead of attacking the main "core" of the monster, she turned on its defenses for a moment, trying to force it to pause so she could get closer. Thwack! One of the shoots recoiled as she beat at it with her weapon, advancing.

She managed to get close enough to take a swing at the center of the creature before she took a wing to the face, knocking her back again in a daze. Good thing her weapon had reach.
