"Guess it's time for us to hit the fringes then. Any houses you really suspect, Ambra?" Aelgeirr frowned as he tried to piece together his journey to this town. He couldn't really remember anything noteworthy about the outlying buildings...but wasn't that the point?

@ Tafiir:
The den you found earlier was in a building that was on the fringe of what you'd consider a 'nicer' neighborhood. Since you didn't get a good look at the building itself, you can't place it.
@ Aelgeirr:
That is the point, yes. There's a lot of buildings to appear to merchants and travelers by the main roads, but as it expands out, the neighborhoods become residential, then ends with outlying farmlands. Far beyond that, forests. No wall to speak of.

Ambra Goldstar Mage in Training Ambra would nod in approval at Mercy. At the sight of her papers, she felt this was a person she could trust. If the Mayor was willing to put her stock in this individual, then why shouldn't she. Ambra would respond to Aelgeirr, a little flustered too, but then quickly come out of it. "Oh, uh... none in particular at this moment, but I'm sure if we ask around we can find out. Even better, if we go to the mayor's office, I'm sure they keep records of the abandoned or unused buildings in this town."Ambra would jump a bit at the orc banging the haft of his halberd against a stone, causing her tail to stick out straight like a cat's. She would turn around to look at the source of the noise and once again find an individual who was very much bigger than her--not usually a rare occurrence, but it seemed to be happening an awful lot today. She would respond politely to the orc. "Uh, sir, we are not loitering. We have been hired by the mayor to investigate the matters of the attacks of the previous night. Right now we are having an official discussion on the the incident."

Thork lowered his massive form to a cross-legged sitting position, so the littlest one wouldn't have to look so high. "Thork no mean scare.", as he laid his polearm on the ground between him and them, as to show he didn't mean them harm.
Though, he would wonder why the mayor would ask for such hirelings? If what Kassandra said was true, their would be little they could do. But, build a new orb. Unless, if the orb wasn't broken... but, why wouldn't it preform it's task?
"May Thork ask, what Liartes hirelings know? And, why Liartes hirelings no trade knowledge with Yur...Thork mean, Zanthers?"

However Mecy might have reacted to the assortment of stimuli, she was quickly snapped out of it at the sound of the weapon hitting the ground. At first glance her eyes went wide and her hand flew to her ax haft, ready for a fight but... instead, the orc spoke. Spoke... much like one would expect a guard to speak. Well if this short-spoken, shirtless, well muscled... err... ahm- if this orc was a guard, he certainly didn't look the part. After last night she still half expected this to be another monster attack. But he wasn't attacking, so she saw no need to be the first to strike blows. Instead, she merely spun partway on her heel and presented the papers she was still holding out to the man instead, to corroborate Ambra's story as well as simply because she had been holding them out anyway.
"Zathers... Lieutenant Zathers? I think the Mayor mentioned him. In fact, I remember her mentioning he was bringing other deputized adventurers to meet us, which I assumed was these two, though I guess there could be others, though it would beg the question of why this town is so popular with adventurers just at such an opportune time. Besides that, I don't know where this man is. Nor I think do we have enough information yet to exchange." she responded, a curious lilt to her tone. Though she did look to the others to confirm, "Right? Or should we detour those plans in light of speaking with the Lieutenant?"

Ambra Goldstar Mage in Training Ambra was at first confused by what the orc was trying to ask, but by Mercy's response she managed to figure it out. "Ah, well, like she said, I don't think we really have enough yet to report. We do need to find someone who knows what buildings are abandoned on the outskirts of town. I don't imagine you would have that sort of information, would you, Mr. Thork?"

Aelgeirr would be content to listen right now. Lots of new people with their separate methods and behaviors. It may be best just to wait a little and see if they all get on the same page.

Thork glanced over the paper's Mercy provided, as he listened to her and the small one speak.
He didn't quite understand, why they wanted to go to the farms. Did they want to move into the town? And what did the farms have to do with the orb? Confused, but the papers did have Lairtes's mark on them. So the mayor did trust them, and they haven't given a reason for him not to. Maybe he could get them to help in his cause...
With a sigh, "Thork no guide, but Thork know many farmer, know two retire adventurer, Thork help Lairtes hirelings find home. Lairtes hirelings help Thork find Mother?"

Ambra Goldstar Mage in Training Ambra would look at the rest of the group then back at the Orc. "I believe that would be a fair arrangement as long everyone else agrees. "Where did you last see your mother?

Thork pointed down the main street, "Mother, Thork on way home. Mother fight with two knife, not bow, fought monster stop many coming in town, Thork help. Monster pull Mother away, Thork no see."

The high elf would ponder. "Hopefully if we find the orb, we can find your mother. If not that, then we have a big problem and a big decision. I've got no objection to helping Thork find his mother."

"Well, that sounds like as good a plan as any to me!" she declared decisively, striking a confident pose and pointing in the completely wrong direction. It was a time for action! Time to get the adventure started, for love!

I'm the type of DM that doesn't force players to take actions if they can otherwise decide for themselves. Thork, are you indeed leading them to the outer farmlands? Everyone else, are you going with him if he does so? A decision must be made and announced if I am to progress the story sweatdrop
