"Probably. It'd be just like old times." When people popped in uninvited to drop a bucket of ketchup on his head while he was asleep. "I don't think they'll notice I'm boarding there again, so... Should be fine."
"Um... Ama. You don't have to be that forward, but thanks for the offer." He drew the line at having to impose on someone else for board, especially after having just been kicked out. A strange way of thinking, possibly. "It might be a little weird if your friends popped by looking for you only to find me, wouldn't it?" Awkward situations everywhere then, even more if she returned halfway. And he was not worried about the trust as well. Putting himself in that situation would run the risk of breaking the trust she might put in his hands in the form of house keys. "I'll be fine there, don't worry about it."
Ah, embarrassing. "N-Never mind that, I didn't do much anyway." Other than taking all the damage done by flying objects. "Don't need to tell her that, just that the both of us are perfectly fine." Quick to not draw attention to himself, even if it was the positive kind. "Though, you are right. A little popcorn time would be in order if they happen to cross paths later on." Someone would have to get the chairs and the food for those little jousting bouts. Amusement, in the form of turned tables.

To say she was less than impressed with the answer she received was an understatement. "Not very assuring~" Though she seemed to accept it, either way. "But, good enough?" Wasn't really anything she could do other than shrug over it, anyway.
"Oh~ On the contrary!" A bright-eyed Amarante was eager to be helpful in her own strange sort of way. "Forward would be insisting that you actually move in with me, wouldn't it?" Her keen focus on wording was at play again. A creature from a type known for contracts was bound to know that the devil really was in the details, after all. "Or something along those lines. Would you like to hear more~?" With the amount of discomfort he could probably find in her examples of being 'forward,' that was an unlikely possibility. "Besides. No one can get in here without a key. And everyone shows up at the house instead! There's so much to do there~ You really should visit! And often~" Oh, she was getting sidetracked yet again. "But anyway. Merely points of clarification, dearest~" And now she was having fun again. Yep, she was feeling better.
An unrepentant showoff such as herself found his modesty difficult to take in. "Aaa~ Don't want to look the least bit impressive, do you?" Though she seemed to at least make an attempt to understand, shrugging off her actual lack of comprehension. "I suppose that's all right. I'm still impressed. Want me to show you how much~?" Between the sultry look and the sexy voice it was clear that she meant business-- oh, right. Wasn't going to do that, was she? Palm pressed to the covered side of her face, she attempted to shift her focus elsewhere. Sort of. "Well. Even if that most certainly isn't a suggestion made in jest, I really~ Unfortunately, probably, really~ Should rest. Yes." It would've been utterly shocking if he'd taken her up on that offer when they could barely hold hands. But her reluctant backtracking saved him from having to awkwardly nudge her towards the conclusion she'd already resigned herself to accepting. And without a moment's hesitation, she was on to the next subject. "I'm not sure who I'd feel more sorry for, really. Lots of 'You don't understand anything!' from both sides~ And in their own way they'd both be right, so there'd be no end to it!" Maybe it was a little harsh to be so interested in pitting the two against each other. But they'd both nagged about responsibility and everything! It would only be fair, wouldn't it?

"N-N-No thank you..." He had his palms up just in case she decided to take that forwardness any more well, further. And also to stave off that blasted embarrassing blush again. "That's okay. I think I can handle it myself. Thank you, however." He would pop by, perhaps, if he did not elect to stay in his room so much.
And bam! Mind a-twirl in trying to wrap itself in the amount of rapid suggestions she decided to bring up. "Y-You should. Yes. Get some rest. It's good for you. Yes." Awkwardly cleaning up the food left on and around her bed, he quickly went to the table to arrange them to keep his mouth from shooting himself in the knee. No no, no panicking, nope, not to that extent just yet! Just. Calm. Down. Better!
"Or they might just sit down, turn against the both of us together and start nagging at the both of us. Double the 'responsible for your actions' stint. Not something welcome to either of us, I'd expect." Definitely the worst outcome, even if it was supposedly the most 'friendliest'.

She was definitely an unwavering type, used to his self-sufficient ways yet didn't find herself offended or discouraged by them either. So it was simple for her to continue along that train of thought unperturbed. "Did you have a place to stay for the night? Or were you going to go and immediately take care of that tonight?" No matter how often he told her not to worry she'd likely end up concerned anyway, wide-eyed and wringing her fingers together as she wondered what his answer would be. "I'll likely stay overnight here, so~ Well. While you wouldn't be alone, I've done well in keeping my hands to myself haven't I?" Minding her words? Absolutely not. She probably considered a lack of more explicit descriptions to be an accomplishment, but no. But with her hands, she'd done fairly well. Spending all day in bed with their crush would probably drive most to crazed fits of hand holding at the very least. "Or you could be stowed away in the fridge I suppose." No disappointment had been offered with that suggestion, as even though she'd been seriously flirting with him all of a moment previously she still seemed pretty determined to behave for the time being.
She was content to watch him busy himself, adoring eye heavily-lidded as both exhaustion and relaxation took their toll. Somehow the temptation was great even if she knew how horribly frozen she'd get no matter what. Though when it was just the two of them she definitely felt more at ease about being so attached to him already and that likely factored in quite a bit. Holding his hand had been a selfish compromise. She wouldn't try to convince herself or anyone else otherwise. But aside from that, there were elements at play that she considered far more important than any impulse she could have. So restraining herself was easier than it could have been otherwise. Wishing to assure him, she finally decided to speak up. "Heh. I know I should rest, and I definitely will. It's just... you're not the type to easily get lost in the heat of the moment, are you? Though perhaps you cannot afford to be, with both your career and your situation." She had her share of kneejerk reactions and acting before thinking and definitely paid the price for each and every one. And it was becoming quite clear that there were a multitude of reasons why he couldn't operate as recklessly as she did. Apologizing for it hadn't been an intention included in her strategy, though. "I can't really feel sorry about what I've said, however. It's just part of how I feel about you, after all~" She smiled sweetly, though what she'd said definitely had more than just innocent implications. Oh well. "But in the very same, the wish for your comfort is part of those feelings. So I can't let myself get too out of control can I?" Wasn't much of a consolation, but it was something.
Amarante was so very not amused by that suggestion, looking quite unimpressed with it. "Geh. Perish the thought! Sweet concerned Miya getting along with... that guy?" Apparently he was beyond description. But as much as she didn't like it, the feasibility of them getting along was unfortunately not impossible. "Though I bet if anyone could win him over, she could..." For all her strict qualities, if there was good to be found in someone Miyabi was sure to find it. Shaking both her head and hands in irritation, Amarante still wasn't having it. "But no. Eww. No, no~" Though her obvious opposition and disgust regarding the idea just made all of the various possibilities even more entertaining, right? Regardless of how amusing it all might be to the many unseen hands involved Amarante was through dizzying herself with nausea over it, deciding to vent some frustrations instead. "Aaa~ Why are they so caught up with the idea of being 'responsible,' anyway. Despite anything I say or do, I take this very seriously. I do, and I think it shows." Her lips were drawn into a tight line, face showing indignation at the very idea that anyone would doubt her over such an issue. "Is it really that surprising that I'd do whatever I had to protect both of us?" The sharpness that had been present in her previous words had been dulled, replaced by a sad curiosity.

"Was, actually. Those things aren't going to move themselves out, are they? Someone might come and take them, too." Like his books were anything of value to others, but of course ever-so-cautious about everything. "And anyway, I don't think anyone else would like half their fridge space taken up by someone sleeping in there." In case she minded the occasional tomato going missing or so. Or a visitor looking for a drink only to wake him up from a nap.
Hmm. "It leads to rash decisions and actions that are not fully thought through. However, being able to make the right decisions under pressure is another question, and at that someone else takes the lead." Oh dear, she was not dropping her teasing so easily, not again. "I can't change that either, so you're welcome to those feelings."
"And that is probably why the both of them are so hooked up over it. There is, after all, a great danger involved, both the kind we can see and the kind that we don't know about. Not that I would understand any further, however." They had their own thoughts about it, best leave them be. " In case they might have jinxed it. Might have. Life had an awful sense of irony.

Mature as ever, she stuck out her tongue a bit. "Matters what kind of things you have! Some things could, couldn't they?" Probably nothing he had. And, back to bickering again. But she realized she was arguing just because, and made an effort to smooth things over. "You'll be all right, won't you? Maybe you're tired of me asking, but I can't help but worry. Especially now." Some rest would probably provide her with some solace. A little time for the dust to settle after such an encounter couldn't hurt either. No need for panicking every time he was out of her sight, after all. She did her best to sound more chipper about it. "Okay. I'll try not to be too disappointed that you can't stay." There was nothing for her to actually be dismayed over after all. Just her usual hijinks. Silly girl, wanting him to stay over even if in a refrigerator he'd practically be in a different room. She regarded the refrigerator with a curious tilt of her head. "Here? There's barely anything in there, really. At home, I have two. One just for alcohol and chocolate and another for everything else." That might lead to a fun night, if he stayed in the first fridge and binged on the contents. She continued to enjoy that idea as she smiled brightly at him. "It's perfectly fine that you can't stay, but you're always welcome to do so~"
Was she being praised? He was being a little too cryptic for her to get it. His usual frostiness was something she bore the full brunt of however. "Heh, so cold~" She'd become accustomed to it, but it had been a while. "Maybe someday we'll be hearing all about your feelings, hnn?" She couldn't resent his quiet and private nature, but she could be a little sly about it. It was a good-natured prodding, of course, rounded off with some more assurance. "But, you're welcome to keep them to yourself." She was ridiculous and overly sentimental but suddenly expecting any sort of confession out of him, romantic or not, was just too silly of an idea even for her.
Feeling that she'd probably said enough if not too much on the subject, for the most part she just nodded while looking somewhat shamed. There was no helping the bit of a smile that crept upon her face, though. "I hope that we can find enough happiness to offset all of the caution and danger, at least." A typical heroine sort of saying, but she didn't think it was too naive to want that much even knowing it would probably come at quite the high price.

"...." No reply but a flat, icy stare. Looks like he was taking the 'keep it to himself' part literally, for now. Sure, he had loosened a little on blabbing about instructions and sudden wall-paintings but still there was a blockage for the outlet of personal feelings. Hmm.
"Of course I will. Staying in there isn't anything new." No questions why there was a sleeping area there either, from staff and (potential) visitors alike. "Moving should not be a problem either. I don't think they recall me having moved out in...." Come to think of it. "... the first place. Um." Another mystery to solve, then, and it was making him more and more confused by the second. Oops, looks like those 'instructions' had more effect on him than he initially thought.
"... I'd better get going, then. Get well soon, alright?" A quick tucking of the sheets around her, and a light pat on her head like how a nurse might do for a patient. Oh, getting better at this!

How was it possible to be both accustomed to and unsettled by the same stare? He wasn't even doing anything out of the ordinary, or anything at all really, and it was as if the tables had been turned regardless. All blushy and falling to pieces over the frosty glances she really should've been used to by now. She really did need that rest. But not before helpfully piping up about something she considered important, of course. "I have to say that I've really enjoyed being able to have conversations with you, though." She'd actually said something to try to encourage him that wasn't totally weird or overbearing. Perhaps it would have its intended effect, then, rather than an unpleasant side effect instead. "Even having silly arguments with you is really fun." Definitely not the most normal thing to be saying, but her sincerely pleased little smile was probably difficult to fault even if she'd missed the mark.
Somehow the insistent 'of course' was something she needed to hear, even if his living arrangements seemed sketchy and not the least bit assuring as far as she was concerned. That's where trust factored in, wasn't it? She was definitely stubborn and persistent in a lot of ways that could probably come off as pretty irritating at times. But it hadn't taken her long to learn that she could only protect and provide for him so much. So, trust and patience. A patience that did have its limits, as he'd ended up witnessing earlier, but still a patience more afforded to him than it was to others. "All right. I hope that I can visit you soon, then." Of course she ultimately had to factor herself into the equation, while bearing a satisfied smile all the while.
"Mm, yes. I suppose you should." Hopefully the hilarious dissonance between the words that agreed with him and a vocal tone that was desperately restraining itself from needlessly pleading for him to stay wasn't too noticeable. The need for rest was more and more apparent, as things were just getting silly. Either his hands had been too quick or she really was worn out, as she found herself unable to capture them in her clutches again. Being distracted by said fleeting touches probably hadn't helped. A mouth that had opened and taken a short breath to protest over her physical state was quick to snap shut, as her head bowed a bit with a series of blushy and wide-eyed nods. He'd manipulated her behavior simply with physical contact. Who was to say what could happen if he figured out that correlation. Though in her own way, of course she'd have to fight back. "I hope to see you again sometime soon." Always with that yearning look in her eye even though he hadn't even left yet. Was it really that difficult to bid him a normal farewell? Or at least one that wasn't unnerving even if she was seeing him off with a smile as usual. Still, she wasn't complaining or preventing him from leaving so it was something, one'd suppose.

((Eep, just to wrap up because I don't like having things hanging for too long either OTL I'm not done with papers yet until the end of next week, however, but the schedule's lessened up quite a bit. -u-b))
He was not sure to take that as a compliment or an insult. Being approved on silly bickering was a thing? But weren't arguments something to be avoided and it made both parties angry anyway? Um.... Oh well. It seems that he still had a lot to be learning. Theoretical logic only went so far in social conversations.
"Possibly. Things should be sorted out well enough by then." He would say 'sooner than you think', but hey, who knew what else could pop up? He had enough of empty promises to drop one on someone else unwilling. Anyway. Better come back to see her again, this visit, no matter how odd it turned out in the end, actually was not one of the worst things he had to deal with in the week. Therefore! It should be a good thing and he should do more of it, and since he was pretty much not under watch he could do it frequently enough and not tick anyone off! ... Right. Like any optimism would clear the doubts he still had.
Shaking his head clear of that for now, he excused himself from the room and quickly made his exit. That was enough time already, and if only he was lucky enough that the rubbishman had not perused through the hypothetical pile of items outside the apartment yet. Lots of stuff to do just to get settled down... Again. Well.
Ack! Wait, the bet! He'd nearly forgotten! Oh, never mind. He was pretty much prepared to lose. Knowing her, she'd finish the jar in a hurry, and he forgot to remind her not to eat it all in one sitting. Such a rush, such a rush! Make do with it, he supposed.

(( Always glad to see a post from you, but yeah, no rush. whee From the sounds of it he'd rather not have her visit him right away? And that's okay. :3 So would her library and books be a good choice for what's next? I'm certain it will be far less sappy, too. XD Though moving on to a new scene can wait until you're back if you'd like. And ultimately it'd start with him showing up at her ridiculous house (description here) so either of us could do the first post. ))
While it was a relief that the proliferation of feelings in her farewell hadn't distracted or disturbed him, the underlying truth of why it hadn't left her feelings raw. Not out of being offended that he hadn't noticed, but knowing full well of her part in what occupied his mind otherwise. No need to interfere further for the time being, however. She felt the need to smile even if he didn't look back, staying focused on his retreating figure until her sight was cut off by the closed door.
The ensuing guilt was free to consume her upon his exit, settling into her chest heavily as she shifted to lying face down. She couldn't be assured that her strategy of bargaining and pleas had done anything, but favoring that choice had somehow left them unharmed. Though making the best of a self-inflicted bad situation was hardly something she could feel proud of. Blacking out the rest of the world seemed to be the least she could do to comfort herself as with both hands she pressed a pillow over the back of her head to do just that. While she was lacking any feelings of regret, lament lingered and persisted. In her self-perceived efforts to 'help' him, she'd failed him. On the surface it was a completely absurd concept to begin with; probably more than worthy of any disdain and ridicule that came her way. What business did a weathered little weapon have selflessly offering support and solace to someone she knew so little about anyway? The feeling that resonated from the impression of many scornful and accusatory stares wasn't something she could simply choose to ignore, whether they were imaginary or simply unseen. Hiding within the piled textiles of her bed did little to assuage the burning feeling that flared up in her ears and crept down her back and limbs, but still the attempt was made as she clawed herself in more deeply. But the further consequences of her actions were already bearing down on both of them, so being regarded poorly by what were ultimately uninvolved strangers was something she found difficult to be too concerned about. They understood even less than she did, as far as she was concerned... with the exception of that android. Just thinking over his words made her face hot from the resulting chagrin. It wasn't as if he could be saddled with any of the blame. She accepted the responsibility for her unthinking words and actions, without question. But his actions were frustratingly puzzling. A sudden and brutal end to their story wasn't something she'd wished for by any means, but the closure would've been instantaneous in its savagery. But she'd made her choice, and still had no intentions of escaping whatever awaited her. Regardless of what truths or circumstances she had to face, she wouldn't abandon him. She hardly considered such a decision to be noble or brave. The compliance that was present instead was apparently enough to settle things in her weary mind for the time being as her struggle to stay awake came to an end shortly afterwards.

So if you'd like to give him a break from her feelings maybe she should visit him first. XD If you'd like me to be the one to start either just let me know. Or you can. Either works! :3 ))

Shh, quiet as a library and ten times as cold in here. Was not that busy a day - not that they got that many patients in this out-of-the-way district anyway. Even then, someone seems to have left the front door open. It's easy to get in here from that place, then. All someone's fault. Not like anybody would realize, of course. Such a slow day and nothing to do, even the clerks would rather tap all day on their gadgets than deal with any uh, kooky visitors. Never mind that, they had enough kooky patients to cart around on a near daily basis. Might as well give them a break. Not all the staff was so lucky, of course. And it was only a matter of time until someone came in complaining of having his face ripped off by some unknown monster, a limb removed from some rampaging entity, or having downed a bowl of inedible food.
For a place that he didn't speak much of, it's nothing outstanding. Just the usual screens and directional signs and the smell of antiseptic everywhere. It's a hospital, what to expect. Nope, no directions to that particular office/ward/cell/whatever they wanted to call it. That's okay, people that needed to find him for whatever special purpose they had in mind, they would know how to get there. Better still, the specified door seemed to be unguarded today, boxes stacked near the corner of the corridor it occupied. Not a sound from inside though, as one might have expected. Looks like the room does have a tenant, however, even if there is a lack of a name tag on the front door.

The silence framed itself very well around someone that clearly didn't belong. And was incredibly aware of her dissonance, stumbling along and uttering curses under her breath as she went. True to her word, she was well-covered and bearing the product of her sentimental ideals. Even if she herself was out of place, nothing seemed to be amiss with her usual facade. But her confidence still struggled to recover, faltering as that creeping feeling of trepidation was halting her steps yet again. And taking even a moment to be so bold as to shut her eye to an unfamiliar place... well. It just made things worse, didn't it? But in her own backwards way increasing the danger decreased the anxiety involved. Another vulnerable moment not found within the claws of some lurking horror was a victory as far as she was concerned. Foolhardy to be sure, but still a victory. She pressed on, her eagerness to see him edging out any remaining fear.
The heady scent was enough to overwhelm someone with a keen sense of smell. But she found herself more concerned in what sights were to be had, eye wide as it rolled about in its socket to take in as much information as possible while her body stayed collected with limbs kept close to her body. Would something as simple as a change of scenery be enough to intimidate her at this stage? The very thought of it made her silently bristle despite her obvious cowering. True to her cat-like nature, venturing out of her usual worn paths was terrifying. She'd have to keep that in mind whenever he visited next. She was sure that he could be predatory if he wanted to be. More than sure. But just being in an unfamiliar place had her feeling like the prey without so much of a glimpse of him yet. The sight that ended up catching her eye couldn't come close to being as distracting as she found him, but, well. Boxes! Both out of place much like she was and a magnet for feline curiosity. She approached them almost eagerly, only to meet her own reproach. They're just boxes, calm down. No, no rummaging through the boxes either. "Ah~ Too bad." But drawing attention to herself by expressing disappointment at her self control was apparently game, as well as the scoffs of irritation that followed. Didn't die, didn't break anything, but couldn't stay quiet.

Never mind that - just a small sound in a relatively soundless place. Surely nobody heard that, there was no sudden flutter of protective feathers, no quick footsteps down the corridors from above, no curious little tykes from the pediatric wing popping downstairs to catch a glimpse of the doctor's visitor. At least the door is slightly open, thick double-layer slabs of reinforced steel they were. Surely the worst standard of protection for someone so high-security, but then again the place's lack of people was strange enough. It did not even take a close touch to the gap to find that the air was chilly enough to bite painfully, had she lacked sufficient layers of clothing.
Something dropped inside the room. Sounded like plastic, followed by a rattle of small objects in a container. A light gasp, swimming through layers of sleep, then a dazed mumble. Nothing else? Nothing else.
Except that said plastic container had managed to roll its way out through the gap, bumping lightly against her foot. No label on it, looked like the same kind that the pharmacy might dispense.
Oh, there's a snore. Quiet, but a snore all right. Someone's sleeping on the job.
