With no sign of the jabberwock still, K9Ghost stopped briefly in his advance. However it wasn't because he was tired or anything. More like because he now had two paths branching off before him.
Down each path he could easily see an item. On one side he had the potion and on the other was some sort of device. A clock. Timer? Whatever it was, it looked a little more promising than the small bottle of liquid and he opted for the path opposite; snatching up the device instead.

[The Chase: Part 4]
The Jabberwocky was back on her, and quick. It was running faster than it had before and it was just snapping wildly, at trees, at her, and at others who were running away as well. But unfortunately, her legs were getting tired, and she was slowing. Cupcake wasn't running as fast as everyone else was, or even as fast as she was in the beginning. And she paid dearly for it. The Jabberwocky snapped quickly, and all went black.

hellrisen was pretty happy, despite the fact that he'd managed to misplace Gabriel Santiago somewhere. He was pretty confident they'd run into one another sooner than later. He was contentedly dancing his way through the forest, despite the fact that all the trees looked the same and he was not entirely sure he was going anywhere at all.
He was a little alarmed, increasingly, by the creatures fleeing and the branches breaking. In fact, hellrisen knew that if the creatures were running, he should be too. He didn't quite turn fast enough, though: something was looming above him, and it very rapidly took a snap at him.
In fact, he appeared to have turned right into the bite, and he howled in pain.

Apparently he had made a very wise choice in choosing the timer. Because shortly after he wandered off down the path, the Jabberwock appeared once more. This time slamming into him with lethal force.
If it hadn't been for the timer saving his tail, he would have been K.O.ed for sure.

Another swipe of the creatures deadly claws and K9Ghost was off running again. His health was already running low. A little too low. In fact, if the creature were to even breathe on him--
Not happening!
He wasn't going to lose here. Not in a game of chase. Running was like his forte after all.

He got away from it! Despite the fact he was missing a chunk of himself. At least, he thought he had. He started to hear voices. He heard Gabriel Santiago: "Over heeere!" he thought he heard her saying. And then he thought he heard her calling out in pain, as though her ankle had been snared and she really needed help. But... wasn't that back towards the creature?
"You're a tough ghoul, Gabriel Santiago! You've even got a boil's name! You can hoof it over here, I believe in you-- just don't get caught by the creature, okay?" he yelled over one shoulder.
And he kept running, very nimbly, as fast away from the creature as he could get.

SCIENCE stared after the little creatures as the ran off down the path, wondering who they meant by 'It'. She didn't have long to find out.
Around her the woods had gone suddenly, and deathly quiet. Quiet enough to here a distinct burbling coming from behind her. SCIENCE turned to look, curious at what could cause such fear in such a crazy land.
SNAP.
SCIENCE only got a glimpse of an impossibly long neck and white, white teeth before the impact hit her.
Reeling with two-thirds of her health abruptly just gone, all SCIENCE could manage was a stunned
"Woah."
She liked sparring. This wasn't sparring. This was a predator.
The Hatter high-tailed it.

Finally, after what felt like an endless chase through the woods. The jabberwock finally pulled back, leaving the ghost boil alone. Though, he supposed it had already done its work.

hellrisen didn't hear anything more from her, and he suddenly came to a fork in the path: left, or right? He only had a split second to decide, so he chose left. On his way by, he grabbed hold of the split second timer and kept it clutched firmly in one hand as he ran.
"Everyone deserves a second chance, don't you think?" he said, looking down at it and beaming. It was a little uncomfortable to be hunted, instead of the hunter, admittedly. Even in the Legacy, he'd been the Predator.
This running thing was kind of thrilling, if he forgot which end of the chase he was on. Maybe he could lap the Jabberwock? He began to laugh hysterically, his Tea Party Alpaca wrapped around his shoulders and quivering like a warm, frightened scarf.

Cupcake was correct and she did respawn back to the beginning. Cake sighed as she started running once more trying to avoid the bite she knew would come next. It barely got her, but it was enough to make her run faster.

If he lapped the Jabberwock, could he maybe get it from behind and ride it into freedom? Or find something in his hat that would knock it out? Maybe the water-squirting flower could deter Jabberwocks as well.
hellrisen dreamed vaguely of his chainsaw, embellishing it so that it was most fantastic beyond his wildest dreams.
"Daydreaming is awful!!" he yelped, as the jaws crashed down around him and a flailing tail lashed a tree into hellrisen. He ran away from that, clutching onto his Alpaca for dear life with one hand and the second chance timer with the other hand.

"I'm not dreaming, I'm not dreaming," he chanted, clearing fallen debris and leaping over trees and darting as fast as he could. He had the alpaca holding his hat in its teeth. "And I will clean the teeth marks out later!"
In fact, he was about to be entirely devoured, to death; the second chance timer shattered in his hand, and he whooped while he kept running. "Good call, Crumpet," he told his arpakassu, which made some disgruntled sound around the hat in its teeth.

Once again, she thought she outran the jabberwocky and she started hearing voices again. Her parents called out more fervently, begging, pleading her to stop and go to them. But Cupcake wouldn't listen. She just wanted to get out of here. She didn't want to feel the pain of that bite again. Maybe if she ran faster she wouldn't die again. Surprisingly, she didn't feel as tired as she had. She just had to resist the temptation once more and keep running, which she did successfully.

It wasn't far, not now. She could make it. She wasn't going to get up. The creature behind her was still close, too close...but she was almost there. The edge of the forest grew closer and closer...
