She startled as the blue that had supposedly impressed to a girl went over to a boy. What was that all about? she wondered. The boy the blue had ran up to lead him off. There was the real impression.

Demanthra
Demanthra had gasped when she saw it was another dragon in the sands, she couldn't believe there had been so many hidden dragon eggs. She watched it starting to show off, while the Ocean green picked one of the boys, after having so much trouble finding him. She was so busy, she hadn't seen the shooting star blue until she was flat on her back and staring into his rainbow colored eyes. She felt laughter bubble up inside of her as he apologized for knocking her over.
'Oh, DemanthraMine! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to knock you down. I was just wanting to surprise you!' came the thought in her mind and she felt him start to nuzzle her, 'I am very happy to have found you. Isn't this stuff just great? Oh! I am your Llyrith, Mine, and I know that we'll make such wonderful music together. Though perhaps can we have dinner first? I am rather hungry.'
"It is alright, Llyrith, I know you didn't mean it. You definitely took me by surprise. It just means we are both going to need a bath later, that's all. Yes, let's get you some food,"Dea smiled softly, patting his head. She had impressed, this dragon was part of her, she was going to be a rider like her sister. A blue rider, no less.
'Demanthra mine, let me get off you so you can get up. You can't feed me from the ground,'Llyrith laughed, jumping off his rider and allowing her to get back to her feet. She did so, both dragon and rider covered in mud.
"I can't wait for you to meet my sister and her dragon,"Demanthra smiled brightly, before heading off to the feeding tables with her new dragon. She felt like she was on top of the world as she grabbed some meat and began to feed Llyrith.
Astriana
Astriana couldn't believe it as another dragon did indeed come out of the sands, who in the world would let such a thing happen?!? She watched as it put on a show and noticed out of the corner of her eye as Ocean green came over and felt her bump into her. She would have been mad, but she saw she was tired and then watched as she bonded to her twin brother. She was so happy for him, he actually got a dragon. And it was quite a dragon too, she was glad he had gotten one. She also noticed one of the other girls get the Shooting Star blue and she started to feel a pang of worry in her stomach. There was just one hatchling left on the sands (now that the sandy blue impressed) and one egg that hadn't hatched yet, the odds were not very good. She would just have to wait til next hatching, if one of those two were not her own.
Ashlyn
Ashlyn was watching the hatching unfold, wincing everytime she saw someone get injured. She was starting to feel like this was going to be one complicated bunch they would have, but she was up to the challenge. She was just wondering if her sister would have to wait, when she saw the mud covered Shooting Star blue impress to her after knocking her into the mud.
"Yay, my sister is going to be a rider. Seems we will have another blue in the family,"she commented, Gyafrith nodding his head in agreement.
Becka nodded at Cai's comment about the fogginess, she supposed it was because everything was new and the dragons, were much like babies in the fact they slept more often than not, she supposed once the shock was over and given a few days to get used to the feeling it wouldn't be so bad on the...wow, rider, she was a dragonrider now, she STILL couldn't quite grasp that fact, especially now Taikirth was asleep fully again and the tug in the back of her mind was very minor, though very much THERE. She'd never felt anything like it and it was a very difficult thing to explain.
"I know what you mean, but yes! ... i was trying to think of how it felt but yes, the phantom limb thing, they way they describe it is about right." she agreed, "well, it's kind of like they say but ... not" she added, she sighed as Taikirth stirred a little. "i guess this means my training is well and truly over" she said quietly, more to herself than anything, admitting for the first time, her career seemed well and truly scuppered.
Balchas sighed and rolled his eyes as the blue left the girls and raced towards the boys, skidding to a stop in front of the boy that had asked about his arm, "Congrats" he said as the boy moved off, his arm was trhobbing a bit now despite the numbweed, he was startcing to shiver now too, soaked through as he was. He watched the green from the Blazing egg move towards the boys, by now he hoped more for his Sister to Impress than the both of them since it seemed that this was the last of the dragons, unless there were MORE hidden hatchlings. He hoped not.

Oh no, don't be sad mine!
A little pile of sand wiggled at the back of the sands. When the small mound was finally pushed clear, it became apparent that a teeny tiny green had been struggling with it there for some time. Her face and fragile wings were dusted with sand. She didn't move forward towards the candidates, but shuffled in against her gold mother shyly.
You mustn't be sad! I certainly didn't mean to make you sad, but you see, my egg was very far under the sand, and it took a rather long time get out of there.
Finally the green scampered towards the female candidates, in a single liquid move. She seemed determined not to make herself noticed. Or perhaps she was just trying her best to spare anyone the false hope. She skidded to a halt in front of a candidate with light blonde hair.
But I knew all along that you were mine, Astriana. Didn't you know that I was yours? The green titled her head. Are you hungry, mine? Not that I am, but if you were going to have something, I might have a little bite as well. she said, though the red in her eyes betrayed her true feelings.
Balchas sighed and rolled his eyes, yet another hidden hatchling... he almost glared at the Gold before he caught himself. What did he know about looking after eggs, Flit eggs you buried mostly in a pot of sand, well Hyweth wasn't a flit but still, the similarities were there, especially with this hatching. Well ... looked like the little thing Impressed, he looked over at his sister but didn't see an expression on HER face to indicate the tiny thing impressed to her, he frowned. She'd better Impress.....

Wen had impressed. Her watch partner had impressed! Jemi grinned broadly and shifted on her feet, joyful. And to the blue that has silde up to her, being a snugly brat. Smug little s**t. She turned back to the clutch, looking at the green and the sole remaining egg... Outside of the random green hatching coming out of the sand.
Cai nodded, satisfied with her agreement. It quickly turned to a steely frown as she sighed. "Not if I have anything to say about it." He looked her square in the face, not afraid to speak his mind, even with the other new weyrlings about. "I didn't sign up to be a rider. I didn't ask or agree to any of this and neither did you as far as I'm aware. I don't know why you were allowed out there on the Sands for the Touching and I didn't ask but neither of us were candidates. I'm not going to sacrifice the life and skills I worked hard for because of an accident." A pained expression flickered briefly across his face. Genith could never be a mistake, but an accident? Yes. His Impression had been an accident and one that Cai wouldn't regret. He was not going to let anyone or anything derail him from his path though.
"If you want to throw that training aside to become a rider, fine. I won't stop you. You're free to make your own decisions. I am a Healer first and will always be. If I have to be a healer with a dragon so be it. "
"If you want to continue your training though, I will make sure you get a mentor. You're what, a turn, maybe two away from your knots?" He wasn't sure how old she was for sure, but she couldn't be 18 quite yet. "They can't force us to be Thread fighters against our will." His venom directed at any unnamed enemy who dared otherwise was enough to wake Genith and rouse him from his sleep. The blue sat up carefully so as not to fall off the bench and peered up at his rider with adoring devotion. Swirls of orange flickered through his blue eyes, the colors of both rider and dragon combined in that loving gaze.

The blazing green made her way towards the girls, pausing at each, before snorting. Hm. Hmm... No, this wouldn't do. This wouldn't do at all! Hello! Hello, girls! Hello girls who weren't hers! She pressed her nose against Jemi, only pausing briefly, before doing the same to Balcha.
Balchas held his breath as the blazing green held her nose against his sister, he watched closely, even daring to step out of line for a better look, to see if this was the dragon to Impress his sister.. he was doing a lot of sighing this hatching, he rubbed his sore arm absently, gritting his teeth and looking away. It seemed neither sibling was going to Impress.

Wen made a soft noise of disappointed, having hoped that the green would choose Jemi and they would continue on together. He ran his hand over Wyleth head and started getting a bucket of meat to feed the blue, and catching part of Cai's rant.
"He has a point," Wen said mildly, offering a hunk of meat to Wyleth. Both healers.... one healer the one with the green looked very familiar. Hadn't sbe been at the touching?
Cai's head whipped around to look at the young man who'd butted into their conversation, but after a quick wary assessment he nodded gratefully. "Thank you." He shifted in his seat to subtly include Wen in their 'group' and ran a hand through his wet hair, pushing it out of his face. "It just doesn't make sense otherwise."

After going through each of the girls, the blazing green moved to the center of the sands to nuzzle at the scaled egg, and then at her mother. She only made her way towards the male candidates after Hyweth gave an encouraging croon. She studied each boy, as she had the girls, pausing and switching direction, moving towards the healers. She pushed forward to press her nose to Dianno's torso. Poor hurt boy! One of her nasty siblings had hurt him, had they?
Balchas grumbled, would NO dragon choose his sister? This waiting was horrible, if it wasn't for the fact there was another egg and this green to find their partners he'd have marched off, he was usually even tempered but his bitten arm, the storm and the tension was getting to him, he was thoroughly irritated now aaand there the green went, towards the healers... would that make THREE healers to Impress? The masters would have to find new apprentices at this rate.

Wen watched the green move to the healers, nudging the hurt boy. "Wen," he offered, turning to look at Cai, up at Cai before turning back to Wyleth feeding the blue more chunks of meat. "Do you happen to know why so many of the eggs were burried?"
Becka was taken completely aback, while she's been about to calmly accept her fate, not knowing anything else could be done, here was a journeyman healer passionately sticking up for his craft, determined to keep going. She didn't know what to say, she didn't really feel like he was admonishing her per-se, more being firm.
"I'm not throwing anything away" she stammered, "What else can we do Cai? We're riders now whether by happy accident or not, there's not going to be time to keep training" She cast her eyes downwards "of course i want to keep training, i didn't put all these years into healing for nothing, i just don't know what can be done about it" she wasn't as obviously passionate as Cai was being but she latched onto the hope, even the slight one, that Cai was right, perhaps she could continue her craft but at the same time she wanted to be practical, she always was around her patients so why stop now.
"THEY can't force us but you've seen downed dragons who's riders have been too injured to fly, they've been all but forced to stay and not fly without their riders against thread, Even if we're not forced by the weyr's people, our dragons are going to want to fight thread... and .... " she shuddered, closing her eyes but that did nothing against the memories of threadscored people, dragons screaming, audible even in the Weyr, no .... Taikirth wouldnn't get hurt that way if she could help it.
Taikirth too roused from her slumber though she'd been spared the images in Becka's mind she felt the fear and she nosed Becka before looking at Cai and his blue and nodding, they weren't going to let anyone make Theirs do anything they didn't want to do. She would make damned sure of that.
