Miyuki giggled at this, just because it was kind of true. It was hard to translate, it wasn't as smooth or easy, since she had to think about it. She strongly suspected that for Andarien or Iorlas they had to think about it less since switching from language to language was not hard for them at all.
"Yes, that's is nice," Miyuki agreed.

Wren laughed. "It feels good," she grinned. She turned back to Mari and Kasal. "Thank you both so much," she beamed. "Especially you, Kasal. It's quite the gift you've given me."
The dragon looked back her. "I have been watching you struggle," he replied softly. "I have seen that it goes beyond simple language. You are very welcome."
Mari smiled. "Well, I think we had all best get to work," she suggested, cradling Kasal in one arm and rising to her feet. "It's going to be a long evening, if not a long few days."

With that out of the way, everyone settled into their own tasks. At least the ones that had tasks anyways.
Miyuki took out the rest of her blank scrolls, as well as her ink brush and ink stone. The binding runes didn't need to be incredibly small, but they did need to link with each other like chains, and she found using the brush method was easier. Also, it was more comforting to use a brush and ink stone.
There was something zen like to grind the ink stone against her stone palette and add water. To make it go faster she had Ai out and asked Ai to roll the paper for her when needed. Using a ribbon, she tied her sleeves up out of the way and got to work. Making sets of four chains of runes side by side. She had only so many scrolls, so it would allow more bindings on a single scroll, which mean more people could be captured.
The other advantage to this was that within that meditative state she could think of other ways to make binding runes. Perhaps she thought, attach it to ribbons to make them strong like chains.
Her mind flowed from one thought to another and by the time she had reached to the end of the scroll it was night, which meant Kyrie was due for her to leave.

Before Kyrie left, she came down to the cellar to talk to everyone.
"Once the door and shutters are locked for the night, it should be safe for you to leave the cellar for a bit if you'd like," she told them, "but you have to make sure to stay away from the windows, anyways, and keep your voices down. Soldiers patrol the streets at night and anyone caught breaking curfew will be arrested."
She looked at them all seriously. "I don't need to tell you what that would mean for any of you."

Lin nodded at this, "We'll keep that in mind."
So in short, there wasn't much they could do anyways. Though at least being able to get up and stretch would be nice.
Miyuki nodded as she stretched, she hadn't even realized the time that passed and was hungry. Ai would need food too since she had been out of the ball for so long. Not to mention her back ached, she needed a portable writing desk, preferable something that she could put scrolls in to scroll up while she worked if she was going to continue to make things like this.

Mari wished Kyrie good luck, and with that, Kyrie left.
Andarien sighed and sat up. He had been working, too, lying on his belly with Eon lying against his side and Zeus nosing the gears that he had laying out. He had an orb from Lancaeriel for light, since there were no natural light sources in the cellar. He was also trying to work on a design that might help them in their fight against the General, though he was somewhat frustrated by the fact that he really had no idea what the plan was.
Even if he could design something, he would need a forge to make it.
"Miyuki," he said tiredly, pushing his goggles up onto his forehead and rubbing his eyes, "do you think you might someday be able to make a room for me, kind of like you did the tents, where I can make fires for making my gears and stuff? Because I don't think it would be safe to make a fire in here, and I really can't make anything without it."

Miyuki carefully untied the ribbon she had used to keep her sleeves back.
"Andarien, one day I'll make us a mobile home, I think that would be much more practical than finding one place to settle down in don't you?"
She said this cheerfully, and it did cheer to think of this project. Their parents had always talked about finding a place to stay, but Miyuki felt it would be no fun after a while and maybe a tent that could be secretly a home would be much better.
"And you'll get a room with a forge, and I'll have a room to work my runes, and hopefully a better way to sit and work," she was sure she heard some of her joints pop as she moved.
Though she hadn't the slightest idea of how she would do that, but the thought warmed her. It would be a good project to take up, maybe something that would allow them to cook and bath... she paused. How would that work anyways?
More runes?
She decided she would add that to her to-do list. Light runes were on there too so anyone could use them... oh and an ice box. Really was her goal was to re-create Gaian technology or better with runes alone?

Andarien's eyebrows shot upwards. He was impressed, to say the least.
"That would be really neat," he murmured with a smile. He lowered his goggles back to his eyes. "I just wish I could do something in the meantime." He sighed. "I'm trying to make something that could help us, but ... even if I can design something, I can't make it."
He closed up his work journal. "Not much point in bothering then, I guess," he murmured sadly.

"To be fair, it's the first time you've been in the heart of trouble and remember, and this is the first time either of us are taking part in trouble period," Miyuki put a hand on his shoulder.
After all, she wasn't quite new to this, but trouble normally never lasted for this long.
"I mean sure, there were the dragons, but... they were young and more animal than thinking beings," Miyuki admitted, "Not like Kansal, or even Kyrie's partner."
Or their aunt.

"But what good can I do aside from telling Eon, Zeus and Ponydash what to do?" Andarien retorted. "They're smart enough to do things on their own, anyways. And the one thing I'm good at, working with gears, I can't do because I can't make the pieces I would need."
He wished they hadn't come. He felt bad for the people who lived here and had to deal with what was going on - Mari and Arphenion and Dae'er especially - but honestly, what difference had they made? Their father had been captured, their hosts had lost their homes, and they were trapped in a cellar.
"We shouldn't have come," he muttered darkly.

"Or maybe we were right to come," Miyuki replied softly.
She didn't like it either, but she saw the hope it brought even though they were forced to act now. Despite wanting to stand more, she took a seat beside Andarien.
"Things look bad I know," she admitted, "After all, Ada isn't with us and we're trapped down here, but at the same time being here has forced the hand of both sides. It will end one way or another but we were asked to come here in hopes that us being here would mean a happy ending, instead of the General winning."
It didn't seem like they could do anything but Kyrie wouldn't have asked them to come if she didn't think they would be of use.
"I trust Kyrie to know, she wouldn't have asked otherwise."

Andarien was silent as he thought about what Miyuki had said, and he had to swallow down a lump that had appeared in his throat. His eyes were growing misty, and he pushed his goggles aside again and rubbed them with the heels of his palms.
"I just want Ada back," he said quietly, his voice wavering.
Eon, who had simply been sitting and watching in silence, padded over to Andarien and put one paw on the boy's knee. Then he laid his head in Andarien's lap and looked up at him, trying to comfort him.

Seeing Andarien cry made her chest constrict to the point she thought it was painful. Miyuki, liked to believe she could be a practical person. She had seen much more than her little brother had, and it was easy because she could keep busy, but seeing her brother cry made her want to cry too.
She wrapped her arms around him and hugged him.
"I know, so do I. It's scary but we need to keep thinking to the future."
If they didn't, they'll just end up sobbing she was sure.

Andarien clung tight to his sister and bit his lip to try to control himself. He had never felt so lousy, so lost, or so terrified as he felt now. And useless. Absolutely useless. He wanted to be able to do something - anything at all! - to help, to rescue his father, to end the General's tyranny, but ... what? And what kind of future could he look forward to, with no idea whether or not their father would be coming back to them?
He tried to think of something positive, but he couldn't think of anything at all.
"Mi," he said quietly instead, sniffling as he spoke. "Is it okay if I sleep with you tonight? I ... I don't want to sleep by myself."

"Sure, we can do that tonight," Miyuki replied softly.
It was safe to say that most of them didn't get that much sleep that night. Enough to function, but it wasn't restful by any stretch of the imagination. Lin especially found it hard since she had grown use to having someone sleep beside her.
Not to mention she had no idea how Earendil was doing. Touching the pendant around her neck, she finally sighed, sat up and decided if she couldn't get more sleep she was going to meditate before she drove herself nuts.
She would end up doing this until the rest of the group woke up.
