Edith strode into the party, checking her watch with a worried look that abated slightly when she saw the time. The petite assistant looked for Harrison, gave William a stern squint because she kind of wished her boy had found a nice Moonie to take instead of one of the Delacroix clan. Someone who'd play in the night game after the party, at least. But she had her own big fish to wrangle, and due to a sad tragedy, she only had so much time to work with. Making a beeline for her leader, she began without pre-amble, "Some fool forgot to put out my bacon-marshmallow-cheesy-bean casserole, can you imagine? Heard it was Liam's kid, too, gonna have to have a talk with that boy about being responsible and not putting good food in some laboratory refrigerator." Never mind that he was technically older than her. Giving a small chuckle she continued, "Probably shouldn't blame him for wanting to keep it to himself. But I do." She concluded darkly. With a sigh she craned her head up to look at John, a smile in her eyes, "So I may be a bit tardy, but I made it in time for the most important part, right?"

When Velda finally was able to storm back into the ballroom, it was with skirts lifted to her knees, hair and frothy tulle billowing behind her, and flowers dropping everywhere as her bear marched along polished floor. In many ways she'd grown and matured past the whimsical, half feral child she had been when she'd taken up the leadership of her division. But she'd never left that part of herself fully behind. She bore down upon Caelius and wordlessly picked him up in a princess carry, marching off to the terrace in order to make him lift and spin her around like an angel under the moon and stars. It was her wish for 2014, and damn everything if she going to let her assistant ruin that for her with a report on a mission that should have kept him busy until after the holidays were through. Keeping a monster was useful, but he should have stayed away a good week longer.

"You can't go back on your word." Ripley informed her with a frown. "Especially since I'm involved now." If Abbi didn't make it to her Mother right before Midnight, it was going to be entirely his fault, and Ms. Reynolds would never forgive him for it. He had a lot of brownie points to make up, which was unfortunate because all he wanted right now was some time with Abbi. Luckily they had found Fini before too extensive of a conversation could take place.
"No." Ripley answered Fini's shark-toothed trap question with honesty. Finn honestly hadn't sent him to tame the beast. Merely distract her. He wasn't lying to her. "Just to keep you company." Now that was a bit of truth bending, but not too much of a stretch. Despite everything that had happened between himself and Finn, he still had his back, so to speak. He was also eternally thankful that Abbi was, well, Abbi, and could provide much more of a distraction than he ever could.
While the ladies were chattering about the Baby, the brunet scanned the crowd for any sign of Finn; instead he caught sight of Junior, who seemed to be looking for someone as well. It took eye contact to realize that his Sister's boyfriend was looking for him, and when he did he offered a smile. It'll be okay, he wanted to tell Junior. He was sure of it. In case the smile wasn't enough though, Ripley added on a brief thumbs up for good luck.
Until the photo of course, which he gave Fini a smile for; he had yet to be murdered by her vicious looks, but there was still plenty of time before midnight for that. For Fini's sake he didn't linger with the photo, pressing the shutter quick enough to release her from her need to be nice and civil to him. What he wasn't prepared for though, was the pull on his suit and his very excited date announcing a second picture.
"I uh---okay." He submitted easily enough, his usually calm expression breaking for a moment of awkward at the idea. Being in pictures was never something he did easily, though the end result was usually nice. With a clear of his throat he regained his composure, one hand carefully untangling her grip on his suit first before looping around her waist, pulling her against him for a nice little photo. Thankfully, he even remembered to smile.

"Think we've got time for a dance, at least," Harrison said, a soft grin leaking back into his features now that they were minder-free. He deftly swiveled the hand he'd been holding, and pulled William's waist closer to him, taking him out towards the middle of the room.
He wasn't a ballet expert, but he could handle a waltz.
The song of the night wasn't important, but being with William was, and he mirrored footsteps with the kind of gracefulness he usually saved for the field.

Will beamed at Harrison, but this time it wasn't a front or some passive aggressive attempt to be completely delighted when really he was furious. It was genuine warmth and affection. He let himself be tugged closer in a graceful and passive gesture that deliberately wasn't the ungainly stumble which might have resulted.
He was still glad Harrison could dance, it would have been a dreadful shame if he was one of the lumbering sort of baseball players, all clumsy muscle and no grace. But he absolutely was not, physically he learned fast, very fast indeed. It was wonderful. William himself showed an odd propensity for physical learning despite being shut in labs almost all day every day. He was born was naturally steady hands.
He set his hands on Harrison with nimble familiarity, he couldn't do much in the way of fighting, but he could dance. When it came to being prepared for a ball you had to be sure you could Win At Dancing.
"I've been waiting all year for this." he confided, leaning in close.

"Waiting all year for a proper dance is what." he said with a very bright and toothy smile. "It's difficult to find excuses for them when you are always so busy with baseball and everything else." He stayed close, enjoying the warmth and proximity - his dress wasn't the warmest thing ever.
They'd never managed to do the traditional couple expectations thing - for one thing both of them were guys, a fact which didn't actually matter on the island, the other was their heights just didn't quite match the storybook thing either, especially in stilettos.
And despite it all, he didn't care, it was a fairy tale scenario regardless.

"You mean a chance to show off," He said into William's neck. "I like this time of year too. Chance for new beginnings." He spun William with confidence. Harrison's arms were strong and sturdy. William had always been slightly taller, but he had a slender build.
"I ought to take you dancing every day."

"Showing off is what I was born into mon cher." He leaned into every gesture with dramatic, well practised grace and ease. It looked effortless, it was not, but Harrison made a wonderful partner, sometimes it felt like the other man could read his very reflexes and react before he even began to move.
"Yes, new beginnings too, father's suggestion about the apartment sounds most interesting, I must say." he let the dress twirl with him. "But if we danced every day it would not be as special as this moment, sometimes it is the fleeting moments you have to wait for which are what you remember most of all."

She responded to his own smile, something she very rarely saw in public, with a brilliant one of her own. Ceres knew how reserved, cautious, Ferdinand was when he could be seen. It was part of the charm for her really. While he might be intimidating, or even scary, sometimes to others... she knew that beneath the hard exterior was someone a lot softer. It was something that people didn't believe her if she mentioned it, because she was the only one to see it. She was okay with that, she knew the truth. So as he started to scan the room once more, she thought nothing of it as she was all to used to it by this point. Oh okay perhaps she thought something. "Honey, I doubt anything is going to attack us tonight." She knew he would probably beg to differ, not that he was without reason. She just liked to egg him on at times. Junior was wearing his earrings tonight, as she figured all the partnered hunters present would be wearing their other halves as well. "I can toast to that." The fact he was showing some affection in public, that he was even slightly out of his comfort zone, made her appreciate him even more. Raising the glass she clinked the side of her glass to his. "To us then, another happy year to come?"

(Entering Fashionably late) "Better to be late than never?" He added cheerfully, squeezing the hand of his date that his own hand captured prior to entering. They had cut it close, less than ten minutes before the midnight signal was to go off. Anyone whom knew him would know there was no way he picked out his own outfit. Quinn was dressed in the newest fashion trends, thanks to his boyfriend who was very up to date with those things. The velvet suit felt weird honestly, but if Percy said he looked good in it than he must. He learned to trust him in these matters. "So what did you want to do first?"

In fact, by the time Lucky had found his nearly seven foot tall, green-haired giant, he had emptied the contents of both traveling champagne glasses and replaced them with a third that was now more empty than full. At no point had it seemed like a bad idea, but then again, there was probably a reason he rarely drank, and a reason he had chosen to start here and now. It certainly didn't improve his already poor judgment in all areas not scientific. Unfortunately this fell into one of those areas, even if he was too buzzed to realize it. There were rules, he remembered vaguely. He wasn't supposed to be this close. He certainly wasn't supposed to talk to him. The notions blinked like faraway warning lights as he barreled right into danger. Why had, for once, stopped occurring to him. Why was such an unfulfilling question to ask. It didn't even matter why. Jack said he wasn't embarrassed by him, and Lucky believed him. That was why it would be okay now. They didn't have to keep each other a secret any more. And Lucky had a great plan for how they could finally take the next step in their relationship; he'd been thinking about it for hours. Weeks and months, if he wanted to get technical, but the alcohol really sped things up. " Cześć, przystojny," he purred drunkenly, wrapping his arms around Jack from behind and letting the champagne glass tilt dangerously sideways. Somehow he managed to see around his target, recognizing that he must have interrupted something. Lucky gave them a friendly acknowledgment. "Oh, hi Shiloh, Ian."

“Excuse me?” Jack’s face was smiling, but his words rang hollow, without laughter. The joke fell flat, like his tone, and his words, in Shiloh’s opinion, were bordering on the edge of unacceptable. He liked Jack whom, though course at times, was a good ally and study buddy, and often times even fun to hang around with. He thought of Jack as a friend, even if they weren’t close, and his attitude surprised Shiloh, though he guessed it was a subject they’d never really broached before – there’d never been any need. He let go of Ian’s hand, fully intent on stepping forward and explaining to Jack exactly why it was none of his business when or where Shiloh shacked up when a pair of arms slipping around Jack’s waist had him stepping in the opposite direction instead, even more surprised. The green haired man hanging off of Jack was familiar, his name was Lucky he was pretty sure, but he didn’t know him well, and certainly didn’t know him in the same capacity that Jack seemed to. Shiloh glanced at Ian with a confused look, then back at the new pair, studying them for a moment before he answered. “Got a little green on you there, Jack. All over your back, in fact.” Then he rather pointedly closed his hand back over Ian’s.

Their arrival was now so late that it was incredibly fashionable, just like he was, and the proud strides that Percy took seemed to indicate that he knew as much. The teenager held a firm belief that the party didn't start until he arrived - so he stopped, held his head high as he briefly basked in the glory of the party that had just begun, and squeezed his date's hand back. " You?" he teased, getting the obvious answer out of the way. With a smug smile, he nudged Quinn and stood on his tippy-toes to be the proper height to give him a kiss, taking care to straighten his lapel on the way back down. "Okay. I don't know. This isn't the kind of soiree gracing instagram right now, sooo." Which meant 'I don't have a reference point' in a language that only Quinn could understand.
