"Sorry," Ike apologized for, what, the seventh time? This time, though, he was fairly certain he meant it. He remembered Len's breakdown that one time...and he now realized that Julian was going nowhere.
Kill him.
"Oh, for the love of God, shut up."
"Ike...?"
"Notchoo," the boy said to his mum and then turned to Julian, "Nothcoo either."

Must be dear William.
Julian's expression remained completely unchanged, though a surge of hatred for the prey he'd tried to kill took him by surprise. It faded as quickly as it had come, and he forgot about it as though it hadn't even happened.
"Don't worry, Malachi. It's okay." He said, the smile genuine. He was simply glad the kid was talking to him again.

Ike grinned. Maybe Julian wasn't so bad...
Rabid peered off at the horizon and pointed toward a mutated blob approaching them at an oddly slow pace.
"What the Hell..."
The blob hobbled about oddly, stumbling every few steps. It didn't take a genius to see that the blob was actually...well...a group of two or three different blobs. Suddenly, the form emitted a strange, pained scream.
Rabid laughed.
"Liam," she stated simply, "We've gotta go. I'll see you guys later." She gave Crow a quick hug and kissed Julian on the cheek before standing, her son still clinging to her, and walked quickly toward Liam and what she could only believe were her daughters.

Part Nineteen
Liam lay on his couch, as he had for the last 3 days straight. His family had left him once again for a mass shopping spree that was going to leave them broke again, no doubt.
He twirled his cane above him with one hand, oddly soothed by the repeated spinning, not to mention the fact that he had apparently not lost the mobility of his fingers.

Crow slammed the door to her room, marching down the hall to the foyer. Loaded down with books and junk, a to-do list clenched between her teeth, she grumbled and muttered sourly to herself.
She was sick of work, sick of chores, and sick of not seeing her family. And Liam.
Brooding and not paying attention, she tripped over her own feet and landed hard on her face.
"OW! Ishta, caalsta blazeh, DAMMIT!"
Pushing herself up, she spit out the to-do list and snarled, arms wrapped about her stomach where she'd been bruised by books, a hand clapped to her eye where she'd been poked by a coat hanger.
"That's it. I'm done." she said, kicking defiantly at the pile of junk. Screw work. She was moody and had just gotten hooked in the eye with a coat hanger.
"Wonder if Rabid's home?" she asked herself, limping a bit down the hall again and knocking on the door.

Liam had heard the noise down the hall to some small extent, although he couldn't quite discern the voice or what, exactly, had hit the floor. He stopped spinning his cane and peered toward door, as if waiting for someone to knock.
When they did, he smiled slightly. What bitter irony. So someone wanted to come visit when he was a bloody mess and the only humanoid home? Fine by him.
"C--," he began to speak, but his voice was soft and garbled. He cleared his throat before calling again, "Come in. The door's unlocked."

Crow's heart jumped at the voice, and heat rose in a flash to her face.
Liam.
Opening the door and scooting inside, forgetting the aches of fresh bruises and scrapes, she smiled and fidgeted in nervous, slightly embarrassed happiness. It was almost comical, to see her acting even more out of sorts than usual.
"Heya, Liam," she said, still smiling. It was impossible to ignore the blush - though she certainly tried. "I... um... hi."

Liam gave a sudden jolt, his cane clattering to the floor. Of all people, Crow?! He sat up straight, that odd fluttering-away of pain and weakness returning.
He was a mess, and he knew it. His hair was flat, his clothes were plain and far too large for his incredibly frail form, and he was almost entirely damp with sweat. He crossed his arms over himself self-consciously.
"I...uh...Crow. Hi. Jesus, if I'd have known you were coming..." he trailed off, wondering just how quickly a near-cripple could take a shower.

Rubbing a spot of blood out of her hanger-poked eye and blinking as it healed, Crow winced as she tried to make herself look presentable. The usual morning rush had left her hair wilder than ever, her clothes disheveled. The fall hadn't helped things.
She crossed the room quickly and pulled a chair away from the table, sitting down next to Liam. The blush had faded a bit, mercifully.
"It was a spur of the moment thing," she said, smiling slightly down at her hands. "I was gonna go to work, but just said the hell with it. I can take a sick d- er, well, a vacation d-...no. Hrm. Maternity leave. Still have that left."
Pleased with the simple brilliance of the idea, she slouched in her chair and looked over at him.
"I missed you... how've you... ah. I missed you," she said, catching herself and determined to stay away from the topic of Liam's health.

"Maternity leave?" Liam thought for a moment before laughing, "How is our little Simchild doing?"
He stopped laughing after a moment, his face dropping into a kind of sad smile.
"I've missed you too," he nodded, "So...it was you making all that noise in the hallway?" He didn't want to talk about himself at all, nor did he want to break into some kinda of smushy sobfest.
Dying really sucked.

Crow winced at the memory.
"Ugh. Little pixellized worm-child," she said, shaking her head. She grinned wryly and wrapped her arms around her stomach. "Luckily, can't do that anymore. No risk of deranged little demon-Ulathae children."
She snorted at the thought, oblivious to what she'd just let slip out. At Liam's question, she laughed self-consciously.
"Yeah... I swear, one of these days I'm gonna land the wrong way and get a broken bottle through the face or something," she said lightly. Only Crow could find the humor in that. Noting the smile, she took his hand on a whim and held it, opening her mouth as though to speak but then shutting it abruptly again.

Ula...what? Nyeh...
"Hey, at least you can heal, ri--? Erm..." Liam said and peered down at his hand, feeling blood rise to his face. He felt like a child, deeply embarrassed by a simple physical display of affection.
He had noticed her move to speak...or...not speak and, having nothing else he could think of to say, addressed it. "Yeeeees...?"
