☢Just Another Day Here:☢ The Hospital
☠Other Survivors I’m With:☠ Cain, Nitori, Varyn, Esmai, Liam, Ema, Loretta, Xenia, Zach, Jacqueline, New Girl
☠And I'm:☠ Fighting a hoard of Untoten
☠What’s On My Mind:☠ We need to leave now.
☠OOC:☠ ((Okay, 1 more to go after this.))

Wilhelm was a bit nervous about the situation they were in, which seemed to be growing more dire by the minute. They had only one way up nand it was currently blocked but untold numbers of Untoten. Varyn turned to look at him and try to tell him about the ladderwell on the west side of the Hospital. He shook his head and put up his hand to silence the survivor. "Nein! There was an incident with a Brawler and some other survivors that caused its... separation from the building." He was a bit unsure of how to describe the situation in English so he had to pause for a moment and make sure that he got it right. After all, the group of four survivors had been trying to use it to climb to the roof when a Brawler came in and swiped the ladder out from under them, tearing it from its bearings. The man asked him if it was gone, as if he was dumbfounded by the fact. He nodded in affirmation. "Ja, clar." The new girl spoke up about a plan she had to cut off the power and fight. The German man's eyes widened in complete shock.

"Es total Verrückt!" he yelled, swiping his arm out in front of him in an exaggerated motion as if to disregard the statement. He thought that was an immensely reckless idea and was going to continue on when Varyn stepped in between them and told them to stop. He shut his mouth and sighed, muttering an apology. "Es Tut mir Leid." He scratched the back of his head and then steeled himself for the impending fight. It wouldn't be long before he would have to jump back into the fray. He picked up his shotgun and got checked it to make sure it was loaded and ready to fire. He tossed his bags into the middle with the rest of them, and turned to see Xenia, Jacqueline and Varyn leave. He turned back to the rest of them and saw that Liam was watching him for instruction and Esmai looked devastated and lost. He lowered his gun and started giving direction while pointing to people.

"Liam, you and Cain should stay put with Zach and Nitori. Loretta, Ema, watch over them. Ehm... Doktor, new girl, please come fight with me. The others need our help." He then moved outside of the room to join in the complete and utter chaos he heard erupt outside. As soon as he walked out of the door, he was met by a large group of zombies that were practically within arm's reach. Surprised, he backpedaled and started shooting, blowing apart a few of them before being forced to run or be hit and probably trampled.

HOARD!

The Hoarder commanded the mass of rotted flesh forward, and they complied. Each one of them began moving down the hallway towards the survivors, but some were faster than others. Some took off at a running pace, and were met with a resistance of bullets. There was a good amount that made it through once the Brawler began its charge though. There were also a few that didn't make it because they got in the hulking infected's way. Soon many of them found themselves running into two female survivors and tried to attack them. The rest of them moved past and went after the other survivors. The first one they met was the German, who took a number with him before retreating. A small portion went and chased after him while the others turned in towards the safe room to attack the remaining survivors and force their way through the door. Some would make it inside and spread out in an attempt to kill any survivor they could get their hands on. It was all-out pandemonium as zombies filed in and attacked.

▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄

The conversation that seemed to take place with a man whose language Nina had no idea about was cut short. The stranger that had brought her here was quick to stop whatever the strange language man had and was going to say. She only felt confused at the interaction of this foreigner as she had absolutely no idea what he was trying to say or what he was really referring to. Her best guess was that it was probably about the plan but she couldn't make tails or head of his speech. She had no clue if the man was agreeing, disagreeing, or was just giving his thoughts about it. Yet, either way the comfort they had momentarily shared was short lived by the explosion of activities that happened next.

To a novice the circumstances that took place were too fast and too quick to truly comprehend. Nina was no novice as she, much like the males, too had taken action. She accounted for only herself and two more to be involved in this fight and that certainly seemed to be the case. The two men took action quickly with the stranger who helped her earlier taking down a couple of zombies that approached. He had apparently been interacting with a mercenary as his target changed from the zombies to a human. The two seemed fixated on each other so there was no real point in dealing with that mercenary at the moment. The biggest thing she needed to focus on were these groups of zombies approaching.

The foreigner was the next to take action when he sprinted out of the storage room and took action. Nina listened attentively to his instructions that he had ordered before flinging himself into danger. Apparently there were more members who were unable to be of any use at the moment.
Great, just a bunch of baggage to be carrying around.'
She was far less interested in baggage and had her sights set on shedding blood. She was far more interested in being around people who could carry their own weight than those who solely relied on others to do their surviving for them. It was just a waste of time as far as Nina thought. However, at this time she only really needed to care for her own safety and leave the baggage that was behind her alone. They were of no use so she wasn't going to dwell too much on the thought of how useless they really were.

Nina was on the foreigner's heels when he bolted out of the room. Yet, perhaps she was a minute late when zombies were headed towards her or perhaps just towards the storage room. Either way, she had to defend herself and it wasn't going to be like last time. Last time she encountered a zombie it was more or less a sneak attack. Now, she was well prepared for these guys. She positioned herself beyond the doorway at about 3 feet from it. It may not mean much but this was a much better position than before. Being able to distinguish the zombie's height and type she was ready to mow these dead beets down. Nina placed both her hands on the hilt of her sword before slicing it into the first unfortunate zombie that came through her way. Nina continued this attack to any nearby zombie that was unfortunate to meet her and her sword.

With the ominous warning from the new girl saying "they're here" like the little girl from The Poltergeist, Cain shakily forced himself to sit up. He grabbed the gun that had been hanging off his shoulder at his side and lifted it up, going through the motions to get it ready for fire. Nitori watched intently as some sweat formed on her brow. Once the weapon was ready, the both of them looked up to see Liam walk in the room. Nitori gasped and almost cried again when she saw Liam's severed arm, but swallowed hard to choke back her tears, trying to be a strong, big girl. She also noticed Zach hiding behind the large man, meeting them both for the first time now. She couldn't see the little boy's full body, but since he was closer to her height she could see him easier than the others from between Liam's legs. Nitori stood up and walked over to Liam, gingerly taking his good hand in her own, much smaller hand. "That's a big owie, but don't worry, I'll help you." She said, helping the big guy over as best she could so he could come sit down at the far end of the room. She tried to peek over at Zach every now and then too, but couldn't get a good look at him since he stayed hidden so close behind Liam.

Meanwhile, the sight of Liam brought back the memory of what had happened and Cain was doing his best to not make eye contact with the big guy. The seizure had made him forget the events leading up to it, but seeing the bullet wound in Liam's shoulder had triggered everything to flood back. Cain winced and focused on keeping his gun aimed at the door way, listening as the sounds of many footsteps could be heard stumbling up the stairwell. He also heard the new chick's plan on turning off the lights and if Wilhelm hadn't beat him to it he would have also told her what a bad idea that was. Maybe if the group of survivors were more familiar with the hospital's environment that would give them the upper hand, but so many of them weren't, so it would put them at just as much of a disadvantage as their enemies.

As Varyn gave out orders and left with a few of the others, Cain looked over to the other adults in the room and nodded his head down at the guns they had, motioning for them to each grab one. They weren't safe in here anymore and they would have to fight to get out. Cain did his best to get to his feet, leaning on the wall for support. His body still felt weak, but he could at least fire a gun and run if he needed to. Sure, he would probably collapse once this was all over (if he survived that long) but he didn't have the choice to do so now. Once he was on his feet and stable, he re-positioned his gun as all hell broke loose just outside the door.
"Loretta, Ema, Keep the kids and the big guy behind me but in front of you, safe between us. As soon as there is an opening, we grab as much s**t as we can and try and get out of here. If we stay in this room we we will be overpowered and killed in no time. We're just sitting ducks in here, we can't defend it." He said quickly as the sounds of battle between the zombies and the rest of their group outside grew louder and closer.

It didn't take much time before the first few undead came pushing through the doors, Wilhelm firing at them as he stepped backwards into the room once again. Cain cursed and started firing at the corpses as well, this time being extra careful not to let any friendly fire occur on his part. Nitori was in the corner gritting her teeth as the monsters kept coming, getting uncomfortably close.

Yssah Kruger

✯ ✯ ✯ ✯ ✯ ✯ ✯ ✯ ✯ ✯ ✯ ✯

As the caravan of death made it into the city, they didn't notice a small figure following at about forty yards away. Yssah had first seen them outside of the city from her shelter. She didn't know what to make of the massive number of zombies all moving in the same direction but she was even more concerned to see that they appeared to be led by a small cluster of living, breathing, humans. How they managed to do that, she wasn't sure, but it couldn't mean anything good. Yssah kept following them at a good distance, staying as stealthy as she could.

When the caravan of mercenaries split into two groups, Yssah had to make a decision of who to follow. She decided the smaller group that appeared to only have one live human was probably the safest to continue spying on. She got a little closer now, but still far enough that even if one of the dead saw her in the distance, she could hold still and be passed off as just an object of some kind. Yssah had her grey camo on and hid her bright red hair under a muted green beenie so she wasn't easy to spot anyway.

The group of zombies slowly trickled in to the hospital. Yssah couldn't follow, at least not through the front door like they had. She would be easily spotted if she tried. Instead Yssah waited until the coast was clear and then searched around the outside of the hospital for another way in. She found a ladder on the outside of the building that had been torn off the wall somehow. Even though it couldn't be re-attached and was too bent up to try using by just leaning it against the wall, there were still pieces of a round guard cage left where it used to hang. She grabbed a rope from her lucky pack and threw part of it up and around a piece of the metal jutting out of the hospital, using that to climb up. Once she reached a point where she could rest her feet on some more metal, she threw her rope up again and repeated the process until she reached the top. Now that she was on top of the building, she could see a door that most likely led down a set of steps and in to the hospital itself. Quickly tying a tight knot with her rope so it would hang down to the bottom as an escape, she made sure it wouldn't budge before silently heading in to the hospital.

Yssah heard a large amount of noise coming from just downstairs so she sneaked her way down the stairwell about half way and peeked over the railing to see a fight going on between the zombies and the living. She recognized one of the living as the one leading the zombies and he was fighting against the other survivors. They didn't look like they wre going to survive much longer. Yssah had to help. She took note of where each person was. Three women who seemed to be holding there own for now, one man fighting the zombie scout groups leader on the floor, another man backing into another room. There was also a brawler to take into account. Those were always nasty. Yssah wasn't sure she could get them all out. She would have to use something she had been saving if she was going to even try though. This was it, she would just have to do her best.

Reaching into her lucky pack again, she pulled out one of the three gas grenades she had scavenged off of some dead soldiers. Pulling the pin, she quickly tossed it down below where the fight was and lifted the bandana she had around her neck up to her mouth. She pulvaulted herself over the guard rail and down the stairs, landing in a crouch and then decided to go after the guy who was retreating first since he seemed to be overwhelmed the most. As she ran past the zombies and into the room, she got out her hand gun and shot the remaining zombies that hadn't already been shot down in the room then looked around. There were more survivors than she had thought! Even now though, the back room was starting to fill with as much gas as was out in the hall as well, so she quickly grabbed up the little girl, hoisting her onto her back piggyback style, grabbed the little boy in one arm, and then used her other arm to wrap around the biggest guy who appeared to be freshly missing an arm. Bad luck. She supported him with her weight and then yelled out to anyone else left in the room. "One of ya grab on to my shirt and the rest of yall hold hands and follow!" Then when she felt someone grab her shirt she waited just a few more seconds for the rest to grab hold and then started fast walking out of the room and up the stairs as fast as she could go with the rest of them. There were a few stumbles on the stairs and she was afraid some of them might not be able to hold on in the confusion, heck, some of them might not have gotten a chance to hold on in the first place, but either Yssah had to be quick and hope for the best of risk losing everyone and herself.

Once they were up the stairs she led them out the door she had come in and over to the broken ladder well where her rope still hung. "Alright, quickly now, down the rope! Let's go! Don't climb, just slide!" She said, knowing that they would probably all get rope burn but it was better than taking to long and ending up getting killed by what was still inside. She hoisted the little boy up on her back along with the girl, finding it very difficult to hold two kids there, but hoping they could hold on none the less. Then she was the first down the rope, sliding down quickly. Her gloves were fingerless but they did help a little. Oh sure, she got rope burn, but she wouldn't be crying over it. She hoped one of the other people would help the big one armed guy down, he looked like a tough one but she still wasn't sure how he would manage to hold on with just one hand. Yssah looked up anxiously to see how he would do and how many of the others had managed to follow her out.

▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄

Nina held her own with zombies being decapitated one after another with the ease of her sword. She always did her best to take in her surrounding and tried to be adaptable to others. This girl made sure to stay out of people's shooting zone so as not to take an unnecessary bullet. That would greatly reduce her significance......significance. That thought was odd considering she didn't need to be significant. She needed to look out for her own survival but that human part of her still had its own way of caring for others. While others were weak, defenseless, or just plain useless as she took the initiative.

Within the midst of her fighting she noticed that some zombies had bypassed her but they seemed to have been taken care of as they fell one by one. The only real challenge was the brawler she had yet to face. The brawler type zombie was not one she had faced before. Besides seeing its overwhelming strength she had no real idea how well her sword would cut into it. Would be as easy as she cut off the heads of the zombies that had come in her range or would be like ramming her head into a cranium? The worst thing about facing an opponent is being absolutely clueless about it. Not knowing your enemy is, more or less, asking for death. In this world where survival was key information was vital. Certainly she possessed an amount of knowledge yet when it actually came to zombie species....well there isn't a book about it.

During her fighting, strategy, and evasion Nina noticed smoke coming from in front of her. It was the staircase that she had climbed down before running into some zombies and then the group of survivors. At the moment, she was clueless if this was a smoke attack or defense. She was even more clueless if this was friend or foe. Determining which side the smoke was for would easily determine the side. It wasn't long after that she heard bullets as a black figure bypassed into the medical storage room. As no survivor bothered to scream or shriek she assumed this person may be on the 'good' side or at least their side.

As zombies were being cleared and the smoke surrounding them as a shield Nina cleaned the blood on her katana quickly before placing it back into her sheath. She rushed back into the storage room to get her backpack. Once that was fitted on herself she rushed out of the room. She didn't need to really grab anyone's hand considering she knew what the floor above her was like. After all the time she used to stay up there it was presumed so. However, perhaps it was just to her perception but the foreigner {Wilhelm} seemed to lag. Quickly as she could muster Nina popped towards his side and attempted to pull him towards the staircase where everyone else was headed.
"We need to go," she continued to tug onto him before he would yield and led him towards the staircase. Perhaps it was because he sort of had her back so she felt like she needed to repay him in her own way of course. She pulled on the foreigner up the stairs and towards the where everyone else was headed which was apparently the roof. The mysterious person who was now revealed to be a 'she' was telling everyone to climb down. Nina let go of the foreigner before grabbing her sweater and doing the best she could to wrap it around her hands. Her hands were what led her to survive so making sure nothing happened to them was crucial. Nina made sure that her hands had been bandaged well before sliding down the rope herself. Her hands could feel the burn at times but nothing as bad a rope burn as far as she could tell.

Nina reached the bottom of the hospital and undid her hands to only sport back her sweater. It didn't matter that it wasn't clean since cleanliness didn't really matter anymore. She checked herself, making sure everything was there. She checked that her backpack was still there, her katana....yup everything seemed to be there as she did a recheck. As Nina faced this new 'ally' she gave a nod of her head towards the girl before looking out to their surrounding. Checking to make sure that no other mercenaries were around or zombies for that matter.

☠OOC:☠ ((Welcome to the roleplay Treachery! ^^))

There was no other way to describe the events occurring- it was absolute chaos. zombies flowed forth into the hallway as if they were a stream of water from an open faucet. Wilhelm had been forced back down the hallway shortly after coming into contact with the infected. In an unfortunate turn of events, the German found himself trying to draw the undead away from the rest of the survivors. Alas, it was an effort in vain as he noticed they kept pouring into the hallway and squeezing into the safe room. He felt a sharp pang of fear pierce his heart and stay his feet- Loretta and Nitori were in danger. He reached out and kicked the nearest Untoten back as he shoved new rounds into the semi-automatic shotgun. Once he was finished, the first bullet ripped through the nearest trio of the undead, complimented by a steady hissing sound. At first he thought it was another Gnasher, but it began to flush out and sound very familiar- it was the sound of gas escaping a container. "Sheisse!" The soldier immediately assumed the worst as he saw smoke begin to cover the hallway. There was nothing he could do for the moment, but it seemed that undead were being momentarily stalled by the lack of visibility. He shot a few more and then hastily reached in his jacket pocket to produce his gas mask, strapping it on his face in seconds. That way, he was prepared when the gas hit. He figured that this was an all-out attempt to kill the remaining survivors in the tower, so he pressed forward into the group of zombies. He shot the ones that were in his way as he ran, reloading when necessary. He had to get back to the room and find them... he had to- he wheeled around the corner and noticed that no one was there. That was a bad sign, but he had heard a large group of footsteps moving away quickly. Were they using this opportunity to escape?

Wilhelm took a small pause before running out of the old safe house, stopping to grab a duffel bag of supplies. It had seemed like some of the others had forgotten to do the same, but there were many bags missing, so he assumed it would work out alright. He ran into the hallway to hear a large whump to his side. He looked down to see the collapsed form of a Brawler. He skidded to a halt and held out a hand to the woman pulling her sword from its neck. Then Xenia walked forward through the smoke, revealing her position as she went to make sure the monstrosity was deceased. They moved closer and became a group, coughing as they moved for the stairwell. He could hear a door close above them and wondered why people had went up rather than down the stairs. Curiously, they investigated the sound to see that someone was on the far side from them-all the way to the west. Surprised, they made their way over and realized that the person was offering them a way down. She had taken both children with them, although it was uncertain to Wilhelm is the new survivor had even noticed that one of the children she carried had a large hole in his midsection. Either way, he was concerned for Nitori. He did not want her in any danger, but he was willing to trust the woman for now. He watched one by one as the survivors took off down the rope, making sure that the women and children were down first before letting the Doktor and Cain go down together. He wanted to make sure that the man wasn't woozy enough that he would let go and fall. He looked around, but could not find Varyn. He found it bizarre that they man had not shown up yet, but then he decided to get Liam down first. He didn't know how much longer the big guy would last. Without hesitation, he hefted the abnormally large man over his shoulder with a grunt and slowly moved towards the rope. "Hold on tightly, mein Freund. I will support you." he said to Liam. His voice was strained from the effort, but he did not falter.

He took hold of the rope and slid a bit, noting how painful the action was even with his gloves. He was carrying nearly twice his weight, and it was showing with the constant slip between his hands and the rope. He let himself down as best as he could, trying not to go too fast. It was clear that the rope was not going to hold out much longer, as he felt it strain and tear. He was now moving much quicker down, hoping that the new speed would get them to the ground before the rope gave way. It was interesting as he felt a new tug at the top. He looked up to see the familiar form of a Ghile suit. He was relieved and finished sliding down the rope with Liam in tow before he saw the rope start to fall. To his horror, he looked up to see that the man above them was holding a machete that caught the sun's rays for a moment before it was put away. The foreigner resisted the urge to yell up to the man, but thought better of it. It would most certainly attract zombies and Varyn probably wouldn't have been able to hear what was said anyway. He watched as the figure seemed to stand at the edge for a moment before dropping something off the side and then leaving. Curious, Wilhelm walked over to the small parcel that happened to be a book... like a small journal of sorts. On the top of it was a small slip of paper that read, 'Esmai'. After he retrieved the object, he extended it out to Esmai with a short, "Für dich." Once she had taken it, he would lead the group away towards a small convenience store to get off of the streets and out of plain sight. They ran until they got inside, closing and barring off the doors. Wilhelm continued to try and move stocking shelves in front of the windows and doors. "Some one come help me, bitte."

NPC Event

Smoke started to pour into the room throughout their tussle. Brady got distracted immediately. "What in tarna-" his voice was cut off by a groan as his head was slammed into the counter next to him. Stunned and dizzy from the sudden hit, Brady was easily thrown off by Varyn. It was then that the bush-man dove for his weapon, grasping it tightly in both hands. As his less experienced opponent struggled to get up, Varyn squeezed the trigger in two short, controlled bursts, ending the mercenary's life. He had no regrets on his actions and simply stepped over the body to continue on. He was certain that he had heard the others move to the stairwell and ascend, but he wanted to make sure. He moved quickly and quietly up the stairs and ended up behind a curious Zombie Hoarder that had followed the group. Without warning, he took its head off with his machete. That was a problem in his eyes. One of the smarter ones that could control hoards and telepathically relay to the other undead had just seen the survivors and where they were heading. He had no doubt that the Hoarder had just given the caravan all of the information necessary to find and eliminate their group. He quickly walked over to the rope and noticed that it was tearing from the strain put on it. He peered over the edge to see that Wilhelm was carrying the big injured lug with him. He quickly dropped his machete and grabbed onto the rope, leaning back with his boots against the ledge. he held below the strained portion to ensure that they would be able to make it down. As soon as he felt tension leave the rope, he grabbed his machete and cut it. He wasn't about to try and slide down a breaking rope. Surely they didn't think he was that reckless or stupid.

He wasn't planning on leaving them on their own. They weren't out of the woods yet. However, his next plan was a bit reckless. If he didn't make it out...

He pulled out a small book and looked at it curiously. It was Al's, the person who tutored him and taught him everything he needed to know about the world they were living in. He had also written in it after, filling in more information as time went on. He looked at it nostalgically for a moment before deciding that it was for the best. If he didn't live to help them travel, they would need the journal as a guide. He quickly ripped a piece of paper out of it and wrote a small note:
Esmai,
This book has all the information I could possibly teach you about the zombies, the virus, the apocalypse, and where to go. There should be a small neighborhood a few miles north of this place through the fences. Go there.
-Varyn

Once that was finished, he neatly folded the note. He took barely any time to write out her name on top of the folded note and slipped it in the binding strap holding the pages closed. Then he tossed it over the edge and walked away. There was still so much to be done.

Since the newest unnamed survivor's alert of an ominous, "They're here," many members of the group had fallen to silence. That was the death knell. That was the final word- they were too late to escape without detection. Esmai knew that. Liam knew that. It was likely they all knew that. What choices did that leave them? Liam didn't have a clue what to expect. He didn't know who they were exactly. He only knew what curt clue in he got in the hallway. He couldn't imagine what a collected army of zombies would be like. And perhaps that was for the best. It would keep his rationale alive if he at least thought he could fight. By confidence or stupidity, he kept himself standing so he could help fight what was coming. Both Esmai and Liam listened to the exchanges between the main leaders of the group to piece together what they would have to do. Liam turned his head to glance behind him. He was relieved to see that Zach was able to hide his current condition behind him well. He reached his arm behind him to gentle pat Zach's arm. He winced and ground his teeth harder when another shot of pain shocked through his shoulder. "F-fine, Zach." He was lying- he really thought he was going to be fine.

Then there was the new girl's suggestion- quickly shot down. They were getting desperate. Everyone was. Esmai's nose scrunched. She didn't want to be in the dark with the zombies. Her shot was bad enough with light. Liam seemed concerned by the proposal. His main worry was how he didn't know the layout of the hospital. Wilhelm sounded miffed in his snappy response. That must have been a negative. Varyn thankfully cut between them befrore the discussion continued further and voiced what Esmai dreaded most. She could already feel ice setting in her hands and feet. Her hands must have been shaking- while everyone began disposing of their bags in a pile, she was failing to grab the straps on her own for a few moments. Her bags were the last to come to the center. With that, the bush was gone and had two survivors in tow. She prayed they would be safe. That everyone would, for that matter.

Those prayers were muted by the crashing echoing through the halls. Their air changed in an instant. The danger was in the building with them and moving fast. It wasn't nearly like anything either Esmai or Liam had experienced. Countless hungry howls and groans bounced down the hallway. Distant at first, but that didn't change the volume. So many cries. So many undead. All of them coming for the living. She shakily grabbed her gun. Just like at the mall, right? Just shoot them when they came for the door. She wasn't sure if she was even sure if she was understanding how absolutely abysmal their chances of all surviving were. Liam sure wasn't. He was still ready to charge something despite all that happened before. Nothing they couldn't fight, right?

Both were evidently left in the "safe" room after being denied as forward fighters. It was for the best.

The zombies grew louder. Shrieking. Gargling. Stomping. Running. They were galloping towards the room in what sounded like a beeline. Tense and absolutely frozen, Esmai watched the door and the door alone. Liam had done what Cain said. Esmai only vaguely heard him. Honing in on the sounds of gunfire and zombies was deafening her. Even more so when she recognized the ferocious roar of a Brawler in the distance.

Liam backed himself, Zach, and the small blond child away from the door and towards the opposite wall. He had no gun to protect the kids with but if need be he could charge something. Not a good idea when what they were fighting finally broke through. Esmai did what she could to fire at the onslaught of zombies along with Cain and her fellow companions. Out of all of them, however... She may have been the worst shot.

Soon, her shots hit even further off their mark. Smoke was filtering into the hallways, over the zombies, and into the room. It was spreading fast. Amazingly, Esmai managed to panic even more. Everything about the situation and imminent death was too much for the girl. She was going to cry. Through the waterworks and ragged breaths she continued to try to fight. Her haphazard firing left her without bullets on hand too soon. Immediately after running out of rounds, however, a new gunner entered the fray. The smoke was choking. It took a second to register that the person was there to help. But it was nobody she thought she recognized and she knew it wasn't Varyn without the suit. Nevertheless, when the person began to yell at them and pick up their most vulnerable members, Esmai followed with a hand gripping her shirt as firmly as she could. But not before grabbing her bag and one duffle bag- like Cain said. Liam grabbed nothing and leaned on the woman.

This brought them all to the stairs, then empty halls, then a rope. It wasn't worth being afraid of the rope, knowing what was coming up the stairs. Women and children descended first. Esmai was among the last of the women. She pulled her sleeves over her hands and prepared for the worst as she slid down just as everyone else had. Even though she was light, the sliding of the rope between her hands burned. She let go a little early from the pain and dropped to the ground. As it seemed, she was fine. While the men slid down, she replaced the cartridge with the extra Varyn previously advised her to stock up on.

Liam was more than hesitant to drop down the rope. He watched it as his partners slid down but... how was he going to? Zach was at the bottom. He had to get there. Jump? That didn't sound good. He glanced at the arm he no longer had. Blood soaked the bandaging instead. He was going to have to slide down with one hand- or not! Next thing he knew, it was only him and the German man. Then, it was him being carried by the man. Actually entirely lifted off the ground. Instinct was to struggle since he was never in such a position but he was advised not to. He had to comply.

Esmai's feet were planted and she watched the last two descend the rope. She waited for someone else. They were missing two people. Dylan and Varyn. And Dylan... She could assume what happened to him. The rope twitched as if it was being held, but instead of have a certain bush emerge, the rope fell. It was cut. Her eyes widened and she opened her mouth as if she was going o protest the mere fact that it was severed. She remained that way until Wilhelm handed a beaten journal off to her. She didn't read the note immediately, just watching the German man walking away. "Wilhelm? Aren't we waiting for V- that bush man?" Her voice was hardly over a whisper and he was walking away. It wasn't likely he heard. She glanced over the object she'd acquired along with the note before scurrying to catch the tail of the running group.

In the store, it was growing clear that Liam was on his last legs. His breath sounded painful. His movements were jagged and everything took effort. Running to the store did him in. Despite that, once inside, he and Esmai pulled shelves as best they could towards the door. Liam was running on fumes for too long. There were hardly fumes left to run on. He began to lean on the shelf he was pushing more than actually push it.

    MIXED HOARD

There was no hesitation as Ema ran as fast as she could away from the group, leaving them behind in the dust. No one had noticed her take off until she was a while away, and so she couldn't be stopped. That meant that now they were down two survivors. It seemed like the survivors were not going to get even a moment's respite before their next challenge awaited them. Even as they lost another member of their group and made it away from the chaos in the Hospital, they were thrust into an even greater problem. The immense group of zombeis and mercenaries was right on top of them. Although they were not seen by the large group that threatened to take over the Hospital, they were unfortunate enough to run right by a Brawler and Hoarder. The Brawler wasted no time in calling out its presence, chasing after the survivors. The Hoarder simply called in the zombies around it to go in for the kill. Both closed in on the convenience store in minutes, effectively reaching its doors and trying to break in. By this time the survivors may have had enough time to make some kind of barricade for the door and windows, and Wilhelm was at least successful in getting one of the shelving units in front of the door and one of the windows.

As the mass of undead pressed on the door, it began to push back the makeshift barriers that Wilhelm had put in place. He called out for help and Stanislav and Xenia rushed over to assist him, successfully barring the infected from the door. However, it was not enough to stop the Brawlers from breaking in. A torrent of glass shards accompanied the sound of shattered glass as a Brawler tore through the window on their left. It slammed right into a shelving unit, knocking it over onto Cain before charging into Nina and Yssah, knocking them back. It roared again and prepared to charge the two girls, flexing its claws in anticipation of a fight. Its rotted, mutilated jaw curled back into what appeared to be a grin before it took off at them, sprinting and swiping its large clawed hand at them.

On cue, a second Brawler crashed through the other window and into the fray, causing even more confusion. It targeted the unarmed (in more ways than one) man, missing its first charge. Soon, two Gorgers made their way onto the scene and infected started to come in through the windows. There weren't many, and Xenia and Stanislav were able to fire while propped up against the barricades on the door. Nina and Yssah were stuck with a Brawler, Loretta was protecting Zach and Nitori, The first Gorger made its way for Esmai and Jacqueline, opening its decrepit maw in hungry anticipation. It could smell the living flesh, tracking them down even though its eyesight was very poor. The second Gorger went straight for Cain, who was trapped under a shelving unit and struggling to get free. It still had a ways to go before it could reach the back of the store, and the second Brawler was fast approaching Liam. Wilhelm looked between the two and made a judgement call. The Gorger was very slow and crawling its way over to Cain, who had both of his arms and a weapon. The Brawler was practically on top of Liam, who was missing an arm and a weapon. Everyone else was tied up with something, so it was all up to him. He was also significantly close to Liam. He let out a sharp exhale and bolted from the door, firing at the Brawler that responded in kind. It wheeled around to face its painful threat and smacked them both back, sending Wilhelm into the middle of the room and Liam over to the wall by Cain.

The Seiga-12 clattered to the ground near the door where Xenia and Stanislav were preoccupied. Wilhelm coughed and groaned, dazed by the brutish attack. He wasn't going to have time to rest as the Brawler roared and charged him.

The Gorger crept closer to Cain, rotten flesh and gore dripping from its mouth with its salivation...

[[OOC: Things aren't looking too good... By the by, aside from the first actions, feel free to interact how you wish. You can kill the mutated infected, but they are MUCH harder to kill than the normal zombies. Please keep this in mind in your posts! ^^ Oh, and have fun with this craziness!]]

Esmai was growing immensely concerned with Liam's condition. She didn't know whether or not someone who has died would turn on them, or if someone just infected would turn. She eyed the big guy nervously. He hadn't died but he was clearly not doing well. She stepped beside him to put a hand on his side for a form of comfort. How was his little brother taking it? She looked for the kid. She froze again when she finally spotted him. The boy... how could she rationally comprehend that? His stomach... Chest... His entire abdomen housed a gaping hole! She recognized the panic in the store due to their being entirely surrounded by zombies, but... The boy. Black blood dripped from the open flesh and her knowledge of biology let her identify the organs that slipped out of the injury. How was he alive? He... didn't even cry or show signs of being hurt. It was the lighting. He just had blood on him. A zombie died near him and dirtied him. Esmai was a terrible liar.

Zombies pressed on to the store front by the direction of the noisy Brawlers that approached them. They were clear to hear over the cries of normal zombies. She peeled her eyes off the kid and to the shop window. Liam straightened his back and faced the windows. It wasn't time to slow down- what was he thinking! With a groan he pushed the shelf the rest of the way against the door.

                                        The actions were futile.

The first assault that broke inside was by a Brawler. The mammoth zombie trampled through the window in a rampage and knocked over shelves in it's wake. Cain was in an unfortunate place at an unfortunate time. A shelf fell directly onto him. He was pinned there if not worse. The monster reared towards the two newest members to the group. Both nameless. Neither Esmai or Liam were not in a position to help the two. Esmai jumped back in fear from the sudden break in and shattering glass making small cuts on any exposed skin. She fumbled to take her gun out again. Liam simply didn't have time to respond. Hardly a minute after the Brawler crashed through the window, another followed in suit. Only that one bulldozed through the opposite window. The window was closer to Liam. He wasn't his by the initial charge, however. Dumb luck. It flew by him. Zombies stumbled through the entries the wreckingball zombies made. Those with guns were able to fire at them.

Esmai backed up into Jacqueline with a Gorger slowly approaching them. It didn't have the teeth that the other monster did, but it's mouth was endless. It looked like it could eat someone whole if it had the mind to. Esmai continued to back up with the mutant following her and Jacqueline. The second Gorger crawled towards Cain, crushed under the shelf but alive.

Liam glanced at the endangered people in the room. The Brawlers. The Gorgers. Zach. Too much information to process so all he chose to focus on was that a wide-jawed zombie was stalking to Cain and that a Brawler was turning to charge him again. He reached for his hip, where he would have kept his ax. It was gone. The Brawler charged. Wilhelm intervened. That would be the third time he's come to Liam's emergent aid. The man shot at the Brawler before it collided with Liam head on. Instead, it pulled a massive arm back, then struck them away. Liam was knocked back to an opposing wall and left breathless. He fell over immediately and faceplanted the ground- but not without hitting his head on the edge of the shelf and cutting a gash on his forehead. It was amazing how much he could bleed. His arm was sodden with blood and then he obtained a head injury that bled. He was still only a moment. He opened his eyes and most everything was incredibly hazy. Nothing was solid. The urgency of the moment was lost until the ringing returned and he remembered exactly where he was. A nearby Cain was stuck under the shelf.

The idea of staying on the ground was tempting. His own weight felt apparent. His eyes rolled over to the Gorger approaching them. He rolled onto his side with a start. The mutant was going to reach the pinned Cain. The Brawler roared and charged Wilhelm. Liam had to act, not lay around!

He pushed off the ground with his working hand and hobbled to his feet. He'd be damned if he let these people get hurt from him laying still. This was, without any doubt, his last struggle. He needed to hit two birds with one stone. Of course he'd do the only thing that made sense to him. He charged the Gorger and grabbed it's ankle firmly. Even with one arm, he was ridiculously strong. Fighting on adrenaline and spite was helping more than anything. He swept the mutant off the ground and hurled it at the Brawler with as much strength as he could muster.

Cain and Nitori both started coughing as smoke filled the room. Nitori buried her face in Liam's shirt to try and keep the stuff from getting in her lungs so she didn't see what Cain did. A figure entered the room, Cain initially thinking it was just another zombie didn't take note at first. Then it started to talk, telling them all to follow. Cain didn't argue, mistaking it for the other new girl. He picked up two bags of their crap, flinging them over his shoulder and coughing some more as Nitori and Zach were picked up by the figure. After Cain had the bags he grabbed a hold of the small train of people being led out of the room and up the stairs.

Once they reached the roof, Cain felt relief for his lungs as he took in a breath of fresh air, away from the smoke. Nitori was clutching onto the mystery girl tightly as she shouted out instructions then slid down the rope with the kids. Cain waited for the women to get down first before following right after the bright red headed man. Cain still didn't know who this person was and only vaguely remembered him from the experience with the gnasher.

Once Cain was on the ground he went straight for Nitori, checking to make sure she was ok. He didn't say anything, just put a hand on her back and gave her a worried look. Nitori coughed a bit but nodded to him to show she was alright. She still hadn't seen Zach, even though he was holding on to the woman right next to her. His ripped open stomach was against the mystery girl's back so it was hidden well. Cain was glad Nitori couldn't see, but was still worried what would happen to the little boy. Obviously he wasn't alive like the rest of them were, he must be a mutated zombie of some kind. Cain couldn't bring himself to believe that the boy even knew himself though, the child just couldn't have ill intent towards them.

Nitori and Cain were both too confused to notice that Varyn hadn't joined them, and so followed without hesitation as Wilhelm led them away from the hospital and to a small convenience store nearby. Cain ran as fast as he could, starting to gain some of his strength back now. Once inside Cain turned to see how the big guy was doing. Liam was obviously not doing well. Cain cringed and wondered if he would make it through this. The chances were low that any of them would, but were on the verge of not being there at all for poor Liam. But still, the big guy pushed on, trying to shove a shelf in front of the door to barricade it. Cain was impressed and took a step forward to go help him out. Unfortunately that step put him right in front of a different shelf right as a brawler smashed through the window and into it, knocking it down on top of Cain.

A yell of shock and pain escaped Cain's lips as he hit the floor, some items falling off of the shelf as it landed on him. This was the second time today he had been pinned to the ground. At least the brawler that had caused it wasn't on top of him too this time. Cain tried to push against the shelf, but it didn't budge much. It was too big and made of heavy steel.
"Graaaaahh!" He let out a frustrated growl as he tried to turn from his side to his back and push with his legs as well this time. It helped a little, but not enough. The shelf was still on top of him. Cain looked to the side to see if any one could help him. What he saw was two brawlers, several regular infected, and two gorgers.... one of which seemed to be far too interested in Cain. It was slowly crawling directly towards him, it's movements unnatural and extremely creepy. Everyone else was occupied at the moment and couldn't help him. "s**t..." Cain started struggling in a panic to free himself, still trapped. His gun and bags had fallen just out of his reach and even though he had a few knives on him, the shelf on top of him prevented Cain from reaching them as well.

Meanwhile, the mystery woman had let Zach and Nitori down and now Loretta was trying to protect them from the hoard of zombies pushing through the openings that had been made by the brawlers and in to the convenience store. Nitori had started picking up random bits of rubble from off the floor and throwing them at the zombies to try and keep them back. It wasn't working out so well. She still hadn't noticed the gaping hole in Zach's stomach.

Behind them, Cain had managed to get one arm loose and was now groping at his gun to try and grab hold of the strap and pull it towards him. It was just barely in reach and so he was finally able to pull it in and grab the thing. He took aim with only one hand and started firing bullets at the gorger inching towards him. Only a few landed and even then, it didn't seem to slow it down any. Just as Cain ran out of ammo and let out a panicked groan of frustration, Liam came running to his rescue. Cain barely had time to comprehend the events as the big guy grabbed the gorger and flung it across the room at one of the brawlers, using the infected itself as a weapon against it's own kind.

Cain almost laughed at the sight of the confused looking gorger flying through the air and hitting the brawler smack in the side of the face. However, after glancing back at Liam, Cain's face showed fear again and his eyes were wide at the sight of the big guy. He could tell Liam had run out of steam and was losing what fight he had left in him. Cain was still trapped underneath the shelf and started struggling to break free again.
"s**t. Help! Someone help! Damn it!

      NPC Event

Varyn did not think about looking back or going down to meet the others. He simply descended the stair back to the main floor, and then hooped over the blocking bar that led to the basement and storage areas. Not many people were aware of the layout of this hospital in its entirety, and he was going to take advantage of that. There were no infected in his way, and he was sure that there would not be any down there. Well, unless somehow some Shriekers managed to get their way in there. So far it looked pretty much untouched by anyone or anything. In fact, there was dust on everything. He knew that the Hospital had electricity and a back-up generator, so he knew he had a good chance of doing what he planned and having it successfully work. He slowly worked his way down the rest of the stairs and hesitated to flick the lights on. If there were Shriekers, he would most certainly set them off. However, he didn't really have time to worry about that. If he didn't hurry, everyone was going to die. There were no two ways about it. The mercenaries and their army of zombies was far too close to evade or run from. They were basically sitting ducks just trying to buy some time. He honestly knew it was a miracle that they had even made it out of the Hospital with all of the handicaps their group had. Two children, people who were not used to fighting, and two people who had varying incapacitations.

He sighed and flicked on the switch, quickly placing some ear plugs in his ear canals in case there were any Shriekers. Much to his relief, the coast was clear. He took off at a sprinting pace down the small, cramped corridors of the underground plant that no one knew existed. Soon he came across a screen was varying equations, monitors, levels, keys and buttons. He knew exactly what he was looking for. He had studied the schematics in case he ever had to do something absolutely crazy in the near future. This happened to be one of those times. He began to pressed things and key in different sequences. He really hoped that he was getting all the information right. After all, he would only get one shot at this, or everyone was completely certified dead. He sighed and finished inputting all of the codes and programs that he had learned only to find that he needed an authorization code. He furiously tried to remember until he remembered that the program that he had just entered acted as a kind of virtual 'skeleton key'. It took a bit, but he was granted access to the rerouting and meltdown functions.

He quickly set the path he wanted into the computer and then punched the activation button, turning around and sprinting out once had finished inputting all of the codes. He launched himself up the stairs, taking two at a time until he reached the first floor. He vaulted out of the stairwell and by some infected that did not know what to think of him as. After all, he was basically just a moving bush. Then he moved off towards his next objective at the nearby chemical mill...

      Yssah Kruger

      ✯ ✯ ✯ ✯ ✯ ✯ ✯ ✯ ✯ ✯ ✯ ✯

Once Yssah was satisfied that everyone that was going to come down the rope had made it to the bottom, she looked around at all the new faces with a smile on her own. It appeared they weren't out of the woods yet though, because one of the guys started leading them away. Yssah went ahead and followed the group as they made their way to a little convenience store. She didn't understand why these people had chosen to stop here, if it were up to her she would have kept leading them right on out of the city. Everyone knew that the city was probably the worst place to be, since it had so many of the infected swarming inside. But she supposed they did have wounded, and would need a short rest. Still, it didn't seem wise to her. She followed them inside anyways, helping to barricade the door by pushing random heavy objects in front of it.

Well, that didn't seem to help much. Two big mutated zombies came crashing through the windows on either side of the door, knocking things over in their wake. Yssah was unlucky enough to be one of those things that got knocked over. She felt the air rush from her lungs as the blow knocked the wind out of her and sent her sliding across the floor. She coughed, a bit dazed, then looked up to see the ugly brawler prepare to charge her and another girl who looked like she had just been knocked down as well. Yssah pulled her gun from her side, quickly slipping a fresh magazine in the cartridge holder and cocking it. She had seen these types of zombies before, and they were something special. One of them had taken out her eldest brother and seriously wounded two of her other brothers when they were all still alive. They didn't go down easy and they could do a lot of damage in a very short amount of time. Yssah didn't waste any time in firing all six rounds from her gun into the things head. That really ticked it off. It charged at the two girls angrily and tried to swipe it's massive claws at them. Yssah quickly rolled out of the way, shouting a simple warning to the other girl. "Watch out, girl!" She was able to dodge the thing this time, but wasn't sure if her friend had. Yssah knew it was a bad idea to stay in the city. They should have kept going.

      MIXED HOARD

The Gorger got closer to Cain with every difficult dragging motion, trying to carry its oblong belly across the ground. It was so close... so very close to the trapped food. It could actually see the human. The blurry, fuzzy- gone. It felt an arm wrap around it but was unable to react. It was far too slow to even turn its head before it felt weightless, flying through the air as Liam hurled it. In no time, it felt an impact and heard a yell of frustration from a nearby Brawler. It could smell a different scent nearby- it was another survivor. OTHER FOOD. It became excited, trying to roll over and start towards it. Unfortunately for it, the Gorger was knocked off to the side again, finding itself rolling across the floor as the Brawler swatted it off. Today was not the mutant's day.

Rage filled the Brawler's mind and clouded its vision with red as it violently roared and faced the survivor that interrupted its charge. It was absolutely livid, and that survivor would pay. It turned and charged, feeling pain in its back and legs as two loud reports called out from behind. It ignored the pain and ran straight at Liam. Liam probably had enough time during the encounter to help get Cain out from under the shelf- if he acted fast enough. The Brawler crossed the room and intercepted the large man, smashing him into the wall behind the two. Debris from the plaster and concrete flew through the air as both parties broke through the wall. Zombies were still pouring in through the wall, and it was clear that the survivors would have to flee their standpoint. Xenia and Stanislav were starting to get overwhelmed by the sheer volume and inflow of zombies and had began to move back. It wouldn't be long before they were completely overwhelmed.

The Gorger that was cast aside like a rag doll was now righted again, heading towards the original human it had smelled. Before it could get very far, its senses disappeared, along with the ever-lasting hunger... finally. Its body slumped and lay motionless on the floor, its head ripped wide open by the scattershot from the German's shotgun. The second Gorger that had been following Esmai and Jacqueline stopped to turn to the three smells beside it. That's where the tiny pains were coming from. It had been getting hit by rocks and pieces of rubble- although it had no idea what they were- but it was now slightly agitated. When it turned towards them, it felt more pain from The survivor in front of it... one of the three smells. It opened its jaws and tried to hurry closer to them. They were not moving. It was hungry. The bullets from Loretta's gun sunk into its skin but did not slow its advance.

The Brawler that had charged Yssah and Nina crashed through the wall behind them, grunting in frustration as both were able to dodge it. It was so very angry. It wanted to beat them to a pulp. It roared again, swinging its arm out into the wall to break off parts of it. They flew through the air with a tremendous force. A few chunks speckled the Gorger, while a larger portion knocked into Nina, and yet another into Jacqueline. The Brawler came out through the wall and swung another clawed arm out at Yssah.

Back inside the wall by Cain, if Liam had not been knocked unconscious as he was carried through the wall, he would be alive just enough to feel the Brawler's relentless assault on his body, which it continued long after the man had died. It punched, clawed, threw around and impaled Liam in its fit of rage, smashing him into all of the walls around it. It completely ignored the man behind it known as Cain.
