And even with those sad words, Olivia still couldn't find herself taking a step forward. Just giving him a desperate look, for him not to just turn away and end it there. To tell him upfront that she didn't want that or that he just needed to give her some time. At least she had the moment, even so far away to let him know. She just had to get it out.
"But ... that would be terrible ... " Was all she could manage. Because she never wanted to lose a friendship with anyone, even if they couldn't be too near one another; hugging or simple friendly gestures. (For now, anyways. Maybe?) It was probably right up there with being as scary as fire.

Terrible? Him leaving her alone was terrible? Did she want a piece of the friendship he had wanted? But she still didn't come any closer. Even with all the room he had given her. They were worlds apart, talking as if calling across an ocean, one neither could enter or part. "You can come bother me if you want... but..." he grabbed his tail pulling it up into his hands. (T.T) "I can't put it out. I can promise not to burn you but that is it. If you can brave, it... then ok. But as it stands.. I think we both know how stupid I've been." he sighed. It was a hard lesson, stay away from the undeads unless it was necessary. He should have already known but he would have liked to be at least friends. Now he knew it was just impossible.

Olivia looked away and she felt horrible for it, but she stood her ground and she thought that should have at least counted for something. "I know," she said, to all of it really (and to him being stupid? Well, maybe just a little. He was the one that had been the first to approach her after all). "We just need to work on it ..."
Maybe, slowly steps this time around. Friendships sometimes took work, that's what she said to Molan the first time they had done the machine. And this was definitely when a little extra effort would be needed; for him to be patient and for her to get comfortable.

Patients weren’t something he had a lot of. The idea that she could possibly grow closer again just didn't occur to him. At the moment all he saw was the opposite of progress. Before he had managed to get a lot closer than now. He could almost touch her if he wanted. Now.. he couldn't possibly give her enough space. Before he could at least talk comfortably with her. He was already at his limits of caring about another person's feelings. Most of the time, he just didn't. She wanted to try... and he realized he had only gotten close enough to hurt her. "I can't." how to explain... he couldn't tell her the real reasons the dream, the fear, the urge to never let an opportunity by again. But this... he just couldn't. It was hard enough managing in a place where fire wasn't the norm. He couldn't put into words how weird it was or how much he had already worked just to be by her side. "I... I shouldn't have tried." he stared at his fire, it burning low again. Time to be the jerk again. To end this. "I mean, I don't want to. It's not worth it. You are a what you are and I am what I am and never should the two meet. One mistake and that's it." the friendship would be over, and they would both hurt worst for it. Maybe that one mistake had already been made. Maybe that mistake was trying in the first place. He was hurting her and he was hurting himself but for his own sake, it had to end. The ocean was too wide, too deep now. He was on his side and she was on hers. "It's already over, take your phone and forget about me." He fled.

Kari was once again standing in front of the monstrous device with Millie by her side. She was beaming at the prospect of having her first friend at the school and being able to try out the machine again, even if the event only lasted a little bit longer. Bubbles formed in the various tubes connected to it while the whole machine gave off a loud humming noise. Kari wondered what exactly went on in this machine when it was processing compatibility. Figuring that she wouldn't receive an answer even if she asked, Kari turned to Millie, gave a nod, and stepped onto one of the panels under the machine. ] ((OOC: Kari))

Millie stepped in the machine and waited until she was given to OK to get out. Grinning at Kari and looking at the chart, "Well at least its different this time!" Millie offered. Kari returned the grin, happy that they had both gotten something nice this time. The results may not have been as good as last time, but she really didn't care since Millie had already agreed to be her friend, and that's what counted. "Maybe... but at this point, does it really matter? We don't need some silly machine to tell us whether we can be friends or not", Kari replied with a shrug of her shoulders. Secretly, Kari was glad that this result hadn't come yesterday, as she might not have had the courage to start a friendship had tonight's score come up instead.
