Kadaj had been sleeping soundly, in fact, as strange as it sounded. This whole ‘sleeping on a chair’ was kind of the best sleep he’d had in a long time. He didn’t snore, so he wasn’t worried about waking up other people, although if he did he wouldn’t have cared either way. Kadaj never really thought about being considerate of other people, it was just something he wasn’t taught growing up. As he laid there, he felt a nudge on him, but he was still so tired, so he decided to ignore it. It wasn’t until he heard Chad’s voice that he peeked up and saw Chad standing over him looking all concerned. “No freaking way…” Kadaj said this with an equally matched whisper. He was happy and thrilled to see Chad, but he was doing his best to restrain his excitement.
Kadaj sat up and leaned forward a little to hide his natural morning function that only happened to him because he was a man. He looked up at Chad and let out a silent sigh that only signified how thrilled he was to see him, “Dude, I was looking everywhere for you. I mean, I looked freaking everywhere dude!” Kadaj realized that his voice was getting a bit louder than it needed to be so he brought it back down. “Where have you been? I ended up going to some church or something, I don’t even know, yesterday seemed like a blur after that battle with the girl and her Pokémon. You kind of left, and I was just hoping you’d come back because I had no idea where you went.” The truth was that Kadaj was jealous that Chad walked off with two girls. In that instant, Kadaj had seen everything he wanted dissipating into the distance and Chad made way with the Becca girl and Naano girl to the Pokémon Center. It really wasn’t fair that it ended like that, not even a goodbye. Of course, Kadaj figured that he was just being dramatic.

Chad smiled as he looked down on Kadaj who had just mentioned that there was no way that he was here. In a way, Chad could see this act as romantic since he’d been able to find Kadaj, and luckily, they were in the same place as well. Chad watched as Kadaj sat up and leaned forward. That seemed kind of strange, but it was best not to question it because knowing Kadaj, he’d probably give a flat out answer and then of course, something told Chad that the answer was rather obvious if just actually thought about it. “Alright time to tell you everything then. Basically I went to the Pokémon Center. I sort of thought that you knew that because you saw how beat up Nincada was after the battle. Once I was here, I met a girl named Selphie, she’s really awesome I actually ended up sleeping with her.” Chad paused for a moment before realizing what he just said. “N-Not in the same bed, we had a double bed you see.” Chad laughed nervously before pressing onwards into the story. “She’s from the Johto Region and she competed in the Johto and Kanto Championship. She knows a lot about Pokémon. I don’t think it would hurt for us to take a couple notes on her. But that brings me to the next thing; I was wondering if you might be interested in travelling with her.” Chad thought to himself before speaking again. “I know you’ll need to talk to her, and I can lead you to her if you want.” Chad folded his arms and waited patiently. He honestly didn’t know what he’d say if Kadaj declined going to see this woman because he was pretty confident Kadaj wouldn’t mind. The more the merrier right? Or at least, that’s what Chad thought Kadaj would say.

Kadaj nodded as Chad made the self-proclamation that he would be saying everything that happened. ‘Oh man, what’s wrong with me? Am I really that bothered that I didn’t know what Chad was doing? Get a grip dude!’ Kadaj kept his face steady as Chad explained everything that happened. Although to be honest, Kadaj kind of wanted to meet this Selphie chick just to see what kind of woman she was. Honestly, he didn’t have any doubts in his mind that Chad didn’t sleep with her because he recalled Chad saying that he didn’t hook-up with people and the only people he loved are the ones he couldn’t live without. Maybe it was just a bunch, but Kadaj felt like he was on the right path and he wanted to stick with it in terms of how he felt about Chad. “Alright, let’s go dude.” Kadaj could tell that his normal morning ‘excitement’ was down for now, meaning that he could walk around freely. As he stood up, he made sure to gather up his blanket that he had been using. He didn’t feel like explaining much of his day to Chad because it was nowhere near as eventful as Chad’s. “My day didn’t consist of anything really. But I’m ready for anything now. We should go out and catch us a Pokémon.” Kadaj nodded to himself, more excited than ever to get this show on the road. First thing’s first though, he needed to meet this Selphie character, although, he probably wouldn’t say anything judgmental about her unless she said something about him first. After putting everything away, Kadaj waited for Chad to lead the way and make the introductions.
“Oh, and by the way, does she know anything about me already?” Kadaj looked at Chad and smiled as he thought about what could possibly be said from Selphie in reference to Kadaj’s orientation.

Chad smiled in slight relief as Kadaj seemed to be making the effort to believe Chad, which was a good thing because Chad was telling the truth. In fact, Chad was even happier when Kadaj asked to go to their room. “Alright then, let’s go. Now, she’s still asleep so I’ll have to wake her up. And as far as telling her anything about you, I said some things, but nothing too important, just what you told me. You should’ve seen her face when I told her I liked guys and girls, she was more excited than a Snorlax in a chocolate factory.” Chad walked slowly towards the room that they were staying in so that Kadaj wouldn’t get lost. The last thing he needed was for Kadaj and himself to get separated again. “So I’m sorry about last night. I didn’t mean to separate from you, but on the flip side, we might have found ourselves a tutor of sorts in Selphie.”
Chad walked up to his room before unlocking the door and walking inside. He saw Selphie lying in bed just like she had been the night before. Carefully, Chad nudged her and whispered for her to wake up. “Selphie, Selphie, wake up. I want you to meet Kadaj. I found him sleeping out in the front where people who can’t get a room do.” Chad turned to Kadaj and looked at him up and down, “I’m surprised you’re wearing a shirt right now. I think this is like the first time I’ve seen you with one on since I don’t know how long now.” Chad laughed and bounced back onto his bed. “Selphie that’s Kadaj and Kadaj, that’s Selphie.” Chad pointed to the people he was talking about as he made the introductions. It was nice to finally have Kadaj back in his sites.

Selphie woke up rather quickly. It was one of her special traits that she obtained from always being chased by Team Rocket, be vigilant or be vanquished. As she awoke, her hand naturally reached over to the night stand and she put on her glasses before a word slip passed her lips. She looked around for a moment, allowing her eyes to get used to the faded light coming off the morning sun into the window before she recognized Chad, the man she had met yesterday. “Oh Chad, this is Kadaj?” Selphie allowed her eyes to move past Chad and land on a man with a mohawk. He seemed harmless enough, but from what Chad had told her, she couldn’t be too careful. “Hm, oh, I have an idea.” Selphie yawned before looking at the two men. “How about I battle with Kadaj? I remember you saying how you didn’t let Kadaj get involved in the battle yesterday. Well, I was thinking before I went to sleep, that maybe I could face off against Kadaj.” Selphie turned to Kadaj and nodded her head before hopping out of her bed. “Besides, I wanted to test out some of my Pokémon’s combinations. How about we do a one-on-one, and then I can fight Chad one-on-one for the last round, does that sound good?” Selphie looked out the window to see that there was enough sunlight for a not-so-crowded match between them. “Sorry Chad, I don’t think we’ll be playing for lunch if that’s alright with you.” Selphie laughed playfully before making her way to the door. “Alright Chad, how about you lead the way since you’re the one that seems to know what he’s doing.” Selphie was referring to the fact that Chad liked to take charge and tell people what to do.

Kadaj followed quietly as Chad led them to his room with a nice view of a forest if he might add so himself. It was a bit unfair that Kadaj had to sleep out in the lobby while Chad got the privilege of staying in one of the rooms. Oh if only Kadaj knew last night that Chad was actually staying here, then maybe he wouldn’t asked to come to his room. “Wow your room is nice dude.” Kadaj whispered this so that the girl with red hair wouldn’t wake up by his voice. That must’ve been Selphie. She seemed harmless enough, and in a strange way, she kind of reminded Kadaj of the Serah girl from yesterday. Maybe it was just because they both had glasses.
Kadaj silently watched as Chad woke up Selphie. “Hey-yo!” Kadaj waved hello as Chad made the introductions for them. Kadaj could practically feel anticipation rolling right off of him, but as his relief for her not being a total knock-out woman rolled off of him, a new form of anxiety was beginning to mold itself. Kadaj was beginning to wonder whether or not she was as tough as Chad was saying she was. If so, then Kadaj would be in for a real test of skills in his battle that he was bound to have against her at this rate. Although to be honest he was more than happy to get started because he knew that it would be another opportunity for his Poochyena to make a come-back. Either that or allow Pepper to see what he was made of in a battle. Kadaj really didn’t know what he planned on doing quite yet, but he wanted to make it apparent that he was in fact as adept at battling as he believed himself to be. If he could take on a girl who traveled through Johto and Kanto, then maybe his Poochyena would develop a little more confidence in itself.

Chad nodded at the idea of Selphie battling Kadaj. He kind of had the feeling that she wanted to get a feel for his strengths and weaknesses and since she knew a lot about Pokémon, maybe she would be able to evaluate how Kadaj was going to be further down the road towards his Pokémon by just seeing how he acted now with them. “Alright, that sounds like a plan.” Chad folded his arms and followed Selphie to the door before finally walking out once he mentally checked off everything he needed in his mind. It was going to be interesting day for sure.
He walked down the hallway as quietly as possible before ultimately exiting through the entrance of the Pokémon Center and walking to where the Latios and Latias statues were. This was the same place he’d had the battle the day before, so maybe he’d be able to get into the same kind of battle mode he was in yesterday by just being here.
He would wait for the other two to get to the statues before he spoke. “I’m going to battle against you first, okay Selphie?” Chad held out a Pokeball and tossed it into the air, causing his Pokémon Sketch to come out. “I’m using Sketch because I haven’t got to fight with him in a while, besides; he only knows two moves right now: Scratch and Psyshock. I don’t think it’d hurt for him to learn another move or two from your Pokémon as well.” Chad turned to his Smeargle who nodded in accordance.
Sketch jumped in front of Chad and waited for Selphie to use a Pokémon. It would be her call at this point which Pokémon she wanted to use. Chad just hoped that the battle wouldn’t take too long since Kadaj needed a turn as well.

Selphie laughed at Kadaj who seemed to be somewhat of a jokester, a lot different than what she was betting on, but from spending time with Chad, she was beginning to learn that she wasn’t always the most accurate when it came to people because she was wrong several times with trying to figure out what kind of guy Chad was. “I meant to say hello to you when I first woke up, but you know how it is when you’re still waking up, your brain is just scattered.” Selphie giggled a little as she looked at Kadaj and then at Chad who was making a reference about his shirt being on for once. His body is something she definitely wouldn’t mind seeing, so she wouldn’t be bothered if he wanted to take off his shirt or not at this point. “Alright then, let’s go.” Selphie followed Chad all the way to the statues of Latios and Latias and then looked around in amazement. “This courtyard is big, perfect for a battle. This is great Chad!” Selphie turned back to Chad who was explaining what he wanted to do. “Actually, I’m a little more experienced, so to make it fair, I’ll have two battles at once. Go, Deino and Pidgey!” Selphie tossed two pokeballs into the air and both of her Pokémon came out. “So um, Kadaj, you choose a Pokémon you want to us against Pidgey. I’m going to have Deino fight Smeargle. That means, the Pokémon you pick will be in charge of fighting Pidgey.” Pidgey tweeted a sweet tune before flying around in the air just about six feet from the ground. Deino on the other hand took several steps in front of Selphie so that he was facing Sketch. “Alright, Chad you can only attack Deino, don’t attack Pidgey. The same goes for you Kadaj, only attack Pidgey. I’ll let you guys have the first move though. Just remember, don’t fight until a Pokémon is knocked out. Just fight until they get a good workout. Over-exerting your Pokémon can be just as bad as bossing them around and we don’t want to do that. If you do that, they end up disliking you once they faint a lot.”

Kadaj followed as Chad walked to the Latios and Latias Statues. While they walked through the streets, Kadaj pulled off the shirt because he didn’t like the way it felt on his skin. “That’s cool girl.” Kadaj nodded to Selphie. The truth was, he hadn’t even realized she didn’t introduce herself until she said something about it. He acted like that too sometimes whenever he woke up, although he had plenty more things to worry about besides who he was going to say hello to.
As Chad and Selphie launched their Pokémon, Kadaj couldn’t help but look in awe at the Pokémon Deino. He’d seen plenty of Pidgey before so that was nothing new, but this was his first time seeing the Pokémon Deino. “Whoa, that’s a cool looking Pokémon! Glad I’m not fighting it.” Kadaj turned his attention back to the Pidgey flying a little bit higher than his head. Since that was going to be the Pokémon he fought, he needed to be able to use relatively long range skills. Okay, I choose you Pepper!” Kadaj launched a Poke-ball into the air and in a burst of crimson light, his Torchic emerged from it. “Alright, see that Pidgey Pepper? That’s our target! We just need to beat it, but make sure you don’t know it out, this is just some training.” Pepper nodded happily and jumped into a combat position which was basically just spreading its chicken legs a little. “Alright, since you said we had the first move, Pepper use ember!”
Pepper opened its beak and launched several small fire-balls from it that all raced towards the Pidgey in the air. “That’s perfect dude, just keep it up Pepper!” Kadaj wanted to do something different. Instead of sitting quietly and watched and waiting to see if his Pokémon hit, he would encourage them whether it missed or connected.

Chad watched as Selphie threw her Pokémon’s pokeballs that contained the two Pokémon he’d met last night so he wasn’t too concerned about what’s new. He just hoped he had their battling skills down so nothing came as a surprise to him. “Alright then, let’s do this Sketch! Get ready, you’re going to be fighting Deino!” Chad recalled that Sketch wasn’t scared of Deino like Nincada was, so he felt like this would be a good call in his part by using Sketch. “Alright we have the first move huh? Then I guess you’d better get ready for this.” Chad waited for Kadaj to call his move which was ember. That wasn’t exactly something that Chad could have Sketch make a copy of since it wasn’t powerful enough to be considered useful, instead Chad decided to keep it basic with some guerilla warfare. “Alright Sketch, use your Scratch attack and then quickly jump back here before he has time to counter!”
Chad knew that even though Deino was pretty powerful, its speed wouldn’t be able to compare to Sketch. ‘I bet she’s doing this to test Kadaj’s compatibility with his Pokémon. I know it’s tough to say, but I’m hoping Kadaj isn’t as pouty as he was the day he lost to me, otherwise Selphie will definitely be concerned.’ Chad doesn’t remember when he realized that Selphie’s opinion became important to him, but it didn’t matter now. All he knew was that if she couldn’t find anything about Kadaj that seemed to be promising, then Chad would have to cut ties with Kadaj. It was sort of like Selphie was Chad’s best friend, and if she didn’t approve of somebody, then he couldn’t go out with them so to speak. It was pretty crazy to think this battle meant a lot more to Kadaj then he would ever realize.

Selphie smiled at the adorable Torchic that was used by Kadaj. It didn’t seem like it really matched what he was and the way his body looked, Selphie practically had to force herself not to bleed as she looked at his perfect shirtless body. “A-Ah, okay let’s get started then!” Selphie grinned mischievously and then suddenly, her face turned serious and her eyes went a stale color as she enveloped her whole being into the battle at hand. “Battle mode engaged you two, I hope you’re ready.”
The first technique was up and it was up to Pidgey to either evade or counter. As usual, Selphie knew dodging did nothing but lower stamina, so she needed to make her Pidgey use the embers to her favor. “Pidgey use gust in the direction of Torchic.” Selphie knew that the Torchic’s name was Pepper, but for simplicity sake, (and because Pidgey had never been introduced to Pepper,) Selphie stuck with its generic name.
Pidgey flew up high into the air and began to flap its wings at a brisk speed, causing wind to pick up in the area and push the embers back towards the Torchic. Not only that though, the gust attack would slam the Torchic into the ground if Kadaj didn’t think of something fast. “Sorry Kadaj. You have to learn to use your opponent’s techniques against them. Dodging isn’t always the right answer.”
Selphie sighed as she thought about her old team that she used to have in Kanto; how the times have changed.
With that down, it was time to come back to Deino who was about to deal with a Scratch attack. Naturally Selphie would say to use a bite attack, but she wanted to try something else. “Let’s see how potent your attacks are Deino.” Deino endured the scratch attack and watched as Sketch jumped back into its original position. “Alright Chad, you want to sketch something? Sketch this! Deino use your Dragon Pulse!” Deino opened its mouth wide and launched a ring of different color energies at Sketch that moved at a decent speed.

Kadaj watched Chad’s Smeargle launch itself forward with a scratch attack. It wasn’t that he didn’t know anything about Smeargle, it was just that he’d never actually seen it get really involved in a fight. Chad’s last battle had Nincada in the spotlight most of the time, which made Kadaj wonder when it was going to evolve. However, he couldn’t pontificate these things for too long before Pepper was faced with both a gust attack and its embers from earlier.
“Keh-Heh, if I wasn’t gay you’d be my number one target. I find people who know what they’re doing strangely arousing.” Kadaj stuck his tongue out in a sick fashion before turning his attention to Pepper for a solution to this problem. “Mirror Move the Gust but take on the Ember attack!” Kadaj watched as Torchic barely even flinched as its own embers came back at it and just after they finished, a pink light filmed his body, causing the blast of wind to reflect itself right back at the Pidgey flying high in the sky.
Kadaj brought his attention back to the battle going on with Smeargle and Deino. It seemed like Deino was about to launch a powerful ring of power called a Dragon Pulse or something like that. “Oh dude, you could definitely go for that move, you should use Sketch!” Kadaj looked at their battle in an excited fashion before reeling it back in and focusing on his own. “Alright then, so I’m taking your advice dude. I’m not dodging; I’m just using it against you.” Kadaj smiled bitterly as he thought about how exciting this was becoming. For once he’d be able to add some variety and not hold back like he did in Willowcove since his Poochyena was so weak back then, he really did end up coming a long way.

Chad was a bit in amazement by how majestically and calmly Selphie was able to completely redirect Pepper’s attack back onto it. That kind of made Chad worried for himself too. Why would she allow Smeargle to scratch Deino? Unless she was just wanting to prove that Deino’s defense was tremendous and that physical hits would do nothing. “Tch, so I guess I need to switch to Special Attacks right Selphie?” Chad smiled and watched as the Dragon Pulse came in towards Sketch. There would be no choice though, if Sketch wanted to learn the skill, he would need to take the attack head on. “Sketch, hunker down and take the hit then use your own sketch and then Dragon Pulse!” Sketch nodded and wrapped its tail around it before taking on a powerful dragon technique. “Okay, now use Dragon Pulse Sketch!” Sketch’s tail turned a dark blue color and in the blink of an eye, the same energy ring that Deino had launched was coming right back towards him at the same speed. “Sketch is normal type, and Deino is dragon type, meaning that the ring is going to hurt him a lot more than it had hurt Sketch.” Chad didn’t crack a smile though. The last thing he wanted to do was over-estimate his opponent. The truth of the matter was that Sketch had taken on an attack directly head on, meaning that either way you looked at it, he was the one suffering more between Deino and himself.
Chad looked to the battle between Kadaj and Selphie and let out a sigh of relief that Kadaj had taken some of Selphie’s advice and was reversing her own attack. It was pretty awesome to see that there was battle was just as interesting, if not more, than Chad’s because of all the move reversing.

Well, the battles were certainly interesting, but that only meant that these two had potential. Selphie knew that the odds were stacked against her, even if she did come in the top four for the Kanto League, mainly because she was fighting two battles at once with Pokémon that she didn’t have trained yet. This was, in a way, their first battle. “Alright then Kadaj, I’m glad to see you’re taking my advice.” Truly she was. She didn’t want to see Kadaj become arrogant. “S-Stop saying things like that Kadaj, try-try and focus on the battle.” She liked to be flirted with just like every other girl, but it was really hard to stay in the battle zone whenever men were trying to seduce her. She’d always had that problem, so that was probably another odd stacked against her. “Okay lover boy, let’s do this!” Pidgey was shot upwards because of the gust attack since all it really did was push wind towards the enemy.
Once Pidgey was closer to the ground, Selphie shouted a command. “Pidgey, use Quick Attack!” In the blink of an eye, Pidgey became a blur as it raced towards Torchic with a quick and physical attack.
With that done, it was time to focus on the battle with Chad. He seemed to be being a lot more sloppy that Kadaj was, but then again, it was apparent that Smeargle didn’t really know any moves if it was using Scratch, so Selphie wasn’t going to judge his performance. Instead, she decided to dodge. “Quick, dodge it Deino!” Deino nodded and leapt out of the way before the ring of energy could hit him. “I always say to counter if possible, but sometimes dodging is unavoidable.” Selphie shrugged before giving another command to Deino. “Use Body Slam!” Deino jumped into the air and intended to come crashing down on top of Sketch with a powerful normal and physical attack.

Kadaj laughed at how uncomfortable she was with his false flirting. Clearly she didn’t seem to get hit on a lot, otherwise she would’ve handled that like a champ that she is. Now wasn’t the time to guess about her love life though, it was time to battle, and by the looks of things, she wasn’t someone who was going to go down without a fight. So far Pepper was his with his own ember and Pidgey was hit with her own gust. Things seemed to be countering central.
Kadaj watched as his friend made Smeargle use Dragon Pulse which was dodged. “Whoa, that things a lot faster than I expected.” Kadaj smiled, focusing on his own battle when Selphie commanded for Pidgey to use Quick Attack, which to be honest Kadaj didn’t even see coming before it struck his Pokémon Pepper, causing him to tumble over several times before staggering back to his scrawny legs. “You can do it Pepper! Come on buddy, go in there with a Flamethrower!” While the Pidgey was still close, Torchic launched a long flame from its mouth in the direction of the Pidgey, hoping to beat it with this powerful fire-based special technique. Although, knowing Selphie, there was something she was holding on that would surely get rid of the flame.
This Pidgey seemed to use the wind to its advantage, meaning that trying to attack it would be a lot harder since it could push things away with Gust, however, Flamethrower was a continuous stream.
Kadaj turned to Chad, wanting to see how he was holding up on his end. He seemed to be doing just find though, especially because of the Smeargle now knowing a super-effective dragon type move. However, how he was going to stop a falling Deino would be completely unpredictable, especially since the Pokémon Deino was falling at a quick speed.
