Shiro couldn't believe his own foolishness when he missed. Having failed to accurately gauge that they were the same height was a huge error. After his return kick missed Shiro was sure the Akio would go for another grab but instead the boy tried to punch him while his leg was still in the air. Despite this sticky situation, Shiro managed to pick a course action that allowed him to dodge the attack. Dropping down to a knee he ducked underneath the punch, avoiding it entirely. From that position he sprung upward and slammed his fist into Akio's chin at a fourty-five degree angle. He could tell that one hurt and he figured that Akio was also at or beyond his limit. ""Hey Fudou, you should surrender now. Remember what Obieko-sensei said about being knocked out."

Just because water conforms does not mean it is any lesser an element.

So one may wonder what the leader of the Eseinins was doing at the Village Academy. No, the Academy was not in shortage of a teacher: he wasn't here for that.

He grimaced as he remembered the conversation from last week with the Hokage.

"Must I...?"

Akeru was not one to question authority.

But, first time of protest or not, the Hokage seemed to take that as whining negativity. The lines on the Nara's aging face deepened as the Juugodaime leaned forward in his chair, his frown stern, and reprimanded the Jounin.

"Akeru." Said Shikamori. "We've discussed this. The previous year, you were correct, you were too young to take pupils yet. But do not forget - we are in a state of war, and the situation is not getting better. The Genin are graduating soon, and they require guidance."

He had internally cringed at the Kage's "no nonsense, no argument" tone. Nara Shikamori was a strict man, he knew that, but a tiny part of him still hoped that his godfather would take just a little into consideration his feelings about this...this...coming role. Yes, he was one of the few Jounin remaining "slightly free of schedule", but, there were plenty of patients to tend to in the hospital. Surely...Hokage-sama wasn't going to leave his staff short of another pair of hands...?

But many pairs of hands are short where it comes to the new Genin, the voice of logic said.

He had put off visiting the Academy for many days, warring in his mind whether it was a good idea or not to get a first-hand impression of just who might be his future students. Nor did his staff help his nervousness. The other Eseinin had laughed, a Senju colleague finding it funny to tell him that abusing Jounin-senseis was a running tradition in Konohagakure.

He reckoned they enjoyed seeing his nervous breakdowns.

What if the group he gets were complete demons?

He swallowed, and mustering up his nerves, took up a quick walking pace through the front door.

...

...

...

The inside of the Academy was rather quiet.

He frowned. Were they short-staffed after all? The corridors also seemed to be somewhat empty... Where were the students? But class was still in session... Perhaps his godfather was only playing a mean trick on him.

Muttering to himself, Akeru hesitantly headed towards the classroom.

The paper screen door was open, probably for students returning from other assignments. So he chose to wait: he stood to the right of the door frame, leaning against the wall, and closed his eyes.

7 + 2 = 9 Failure

Though it was great to have her elbows freed from the mess, Amaya hadn’t thought about the fact that once she had all of the knots moved down to where she could reach they would all be in one giant tangled mess. This was proving to be problematic, especially since she could actually see the knots, in the sense that she couldn’t figure out which one she was supposed to work on next. With a slight sigh of frustration, only with herself because she had been so short sighted, the child began blindly tugging and fiddling. While there was probably a better way to go about the task, it wasn’t jumping at the child at this point. Instead she pulled at knots and hoped to feel something loosen while she used her chakra to keep the ropes from rubbing against her slightly raw wrists. Again, there was probably another use for her chakra that would better benefit her pursuit at this point, but she didn’t know what it was.

Through fiddling and tugging, Amaya somehow got her fingers tangled up in the ropes. Great, just one more thing that she needed to deal with. While she twisted her hands and turned her fingers, she couldn’t quite find a way out. Now, instead of working to loosen a knot, she was working to loosen her fingers. This was just what she needed at this point in time. Making sure to keep her temper in check and to remain patient, Amaya focused on just one of the hands instead of trying to free them both at once; that way she would have some extra assistance freeing the other hand. Being right hand dominant, that was the one she chose to work to get out first. She also used her entangled left hand to pinch lengths of rope that were in the way in order to hold them higher so they wouldn’t re-entrap her right hand. While it took a few tries, Amaya’s hands were eventually freed and she could go back to the task at hand; that is, she would have been able to if she hadn’t run out of energy. That now familiar lightheaded feeling returned, signaling that she was running low on chakra and that it was time to rest. She had made some good progress and she would simply have to be content with that for now.

Resting Post

Now that Amaya was low enough on energy to make herself stop and take a break, she allowed her shoulders to slump slightly and her arms to relax. It was nice having them loosened enough to move them and allow them to rest more naturally. The only down side was that she was still bound and that was just an unfortunate situation all and all. Then again, she had to look at just how much progress she had made in that last little run since Sakura arrived. Amaya had made it through three more knots and she only had three more to go. If she allowed herself to get back up to half of her energy, then she might be able to push her way through to the end of the task. Then again, that was also leaving little room for failure, which was almost inevitable at this point in her training. Who was she trying to kid? Failure was an inevitable part of any training at any level, which is why people had to train. Without failures there wouldn’t be room to learn and without room to learn or improve everyone would be on the same little no matter how hard they tried or if they didn’t try at all. It really was a person’s failures and what they took from those failures that really divided people into different levels.

Then again, the purpose of training was perfection. She couldn’t be in combat and not be able to successfully call on her chakra. That was a recipe for disaster. On the other hand, that was why they worked on these things in a classroom and not in the field. Had there ever been anyone that failed to pass through the academy? Maybe she would have to look at the records and find out. Why was that any of her business? Her mind was still young, crazy concept at the ripe old age of eight, and it easily wandered into territories that it should leave alone. However, that was one of the many joys of youth. The uncensored manner in which they could approach anything and everything without realizing that they shouldn’t be and their ability to remain without guilt when it was brought to her attention.

Resting Post

With nothing else to do, the black haired girl looked over at Sakura to see how she was coming along. It seemed that Sakura was just blazing through the task, though she had hit a couple of rough patches along the way. None the less, by what the Keiji could see she was at least half way done if not farther. Amaya hadn’t been paying attention to the techniques that the pink haired girl was using, so she couldn’t steal any hints or tidbits of information from that. Then again, she had been in her own little world and highly focused on her chakra; so it wasn’t really a surprise that she had missed everything that had happened around her. To top it off, nothing had happened around her until Sakura showed up, so the child was still in that same frame of mind. Maybe it wasn’t the most conducive, but it had been working for her on her past few attempts.

That is when Amaya decided to look back on those attempts. One of her biggest faults was that she didn’t look forward in her actions; she just thought of something that might work and blindly rushed into it. Such an approach had gotten her into a bit of a jam with this most recent attempt and it was something that she couldn’t reverse, but this was part of the grand learning experience. Was it annoying and did it do nothing more than make life more difficult? Yes. Was it trying on her patience and did it play with her focus? Yes. But this was also something that she would be able to look back on, tell her brothers about so they could learn from her failures, and then laugh about if they had any similar experiences in the future. Then again, that also implies that her brothers would go into the academy, which she would never force or encourage them to do. If they really wanted to join the academy they would have to do it the same way she did: through the negativity, the fights, the nay saying, and the entire adult reasoning as to why it was a terrible idea. The only big difference was that Amaya would be there in the background ready to give them a hug and reassure them that if it was what they wanted they were going to have to fight for it through all the adults in their lives. That would be her approach no matter what her brothers wanted to do.

Resting Post

Quite suddenly, Amaya snapped back into reality when she noticed that she had been awkwardly and creepily staring at the ground in front of Sakura when she retreat into her mind. Hopefully the pink haired girl wasn’t too weirded out by that little mistake. The child offered her classmate a sweet little smile, once again barely noticeable underneath the grip of the tape, as a way of apologizing for being a strange little bird. Oh great, she probably just got weirder with how that must have looked with tape over her mouth. This was the time to stop. She was way behind already and she needed to quit. Ai, what a day it had been. Plus, it had been a long day so far and it wasn’t even lunch time yet. Well, technically it was probably time for lunch, but she was bound and unable to enjoy that fact. By this time in the day she would be leaving her father down in the forge so that she could herd and clean her brothers for lunch while her mother was in the kitchen making preparations.

That would have been interesting to witness: Amaya’s mother trying to round up all four of the boys while making lunch and fetching Yukio. My, that was quite the task for Amaya and she wasn’t even preparing the lunch. If Sada had been able to manage when Amaya was little, then she could probably handle the boys. Now that she thought about it, the young child probably gave herself too much credit when it came to working with her brothers. Sure, she would play with them, read to them, help clean them, all the big sister things; but she often forgot that while she had a chance to retreat down to the forgery, it was her mother who had to stay with the boys. It was the quadruplets that woke them in the morning and Sada was with them until it was time for them to go to bed. Is she needed to go to market, then the boys were in tow; which was an incredibly difficult task since they still weren’t great walkers and they surely didn’t have the stamina to traverse around the village for extended periods of time. None the less, Amaya’s mother always managed to return with four boys and arms full of groceries. It was official: Sada was a super human.

Resting Post

With the sun high in the sky and the afternoon heat settling on the academy, Amaya finally realized just how hot it was inside that room. With the one window closed and them being on the second floor, with the rising heat, she could really tell that it was lunch time. The heat was conflicting for the child because it made her both hungry and sleepy. Top that off with her low chakra levels and the girl found herself drifting. The only thing that was really keeping Amaya awake was the stomach pain she was beginning to experience. Oh yeah, she was definitely hungry now. Another small gurgle could be heard as her stomach made empty pleas that the child wished she could fulfill. Oh well, it would just have to wait. With her hands tied behind her back still she wouldn’t be able to do more than hold the bento box, so it seemed quite pointless for her to even try at this point.

Guessing that she was back up to about half of her chakra stores, Amaya decided that it would soon be time to work on the last three knots. If she could eventually slip out of the rope’s hold then not only would she get a chance to eat and move her arms, but she could remove the irritating tape over her mouth and then hopefully give Sakura a few pointers if she didn’t finish the assignment before Amaya did. Then again, with how quickly she was working the knots it was entirely possible that the pink haired girl would complete the task well before Amaya. After all, the young Keiji had managed to get herself into more trouble than she had originally bargained for; looping knots where they weren’t supposed to be and tangling herself in the rope even further. Apparently her father had not adequately prepared her for this. Then again, when he tangled her up there were never purposefully made knots. It was just a whole slew of messy rope that she would get tangled in. Yeah, it had helped a little, but not as much as that bothersome prank could have.

Having stored up enough energy, Amaya decided it was time to get back to the task at hand since she was so close to completion. Placing her shoulders back in their proper position after allowing them to relax during her break, the child once more began fiddle and tugging at the loops behind her back. This was going to be an annoyingly detailed process because now she had to undo all of the tangling that she had managed to create when she slipped everything down to her wrists. As her fingers traced the rope from the end, Amaya started creating a picture as best she could in her mind so that she knew what she was dealing with. However, this was easier said than done because she had to account for all the interweaving of the ropes and such. Though it was difficult and it took her a little while, the child was made that picture in her mind and, hopefully, it was enough to help her through the last few knots.

Once she had an image in her mind, Amaya started working on the bottom most knot. The child found the base of the rope’s loose end and once more, as she had several times during this trial, starting working back through the knot. These knots were more difficult because she had managed to tighten them while working with earlier knots and not actually knowing what she was doing during that time. This time around, however, the black hair child was carefully to pay attention to what she was working with a to think through each movement before she made it so that she complete the assignment quickly and with as little add hindrance as possible. This time, she used her chakra on the rope itself, covering it in a sheath so there was less friction resisting her pushing and pulling. While it wasn’t much, it did make a considerable difference and soon enough, the knot fell loose. With her eighth knot undone, Amaya took the time to pull the rest of the tail end straight so she wasn’t dealing with extra tangles as she progressed further and eventually relinquished the hold of the last two knots. She was almost there and then she could both assist Sakura and claim her reward. Oh, how she wanted that bento box.

With her energy slowly draining, Amaya was glad to be nearing the end of this assignment. This who constantly tired thing was obnoxious and it would be nice to give herself a chance to eat and recover. However, she would probably hold off on the eating until Sakura was done in order to be polite. One thing she wouldn’t do though, is go over and untie Sakura. It would actually do more harm than good since the pink haired girl wouldn’t learn anything by having it done for her. That wouldn’t stop Amaya from giving her hints and tips though; assuming that she actually had any to offer. Then again, she wouldn’t be able to assist anyone if she didn’t undo the final two knots and take the blasted tape off from over her mouth. This was more or less ridiculous and the small child just wasn’t having any luck. She let out another shy through her nose as she began fumbling and fiddling with the next knot in the sequence.

Though there were only two left, Amaya was struggling with them. Sure, she could probably slip her wrists out of the hold and just untie the knots in front of her, but that wouldn’t give her the experience she needed and craved. Plus, she wouldn’t have an opportunity to use her chakra if she did something like that. As she pulled and tugged, tangling and untangling her fingers in the process, the child wondered why she was struggling so much with this knot. It wasn’t like it was overly difficult or even considerably more difficult than the last one. As a matter of fact, she had even managed to loosen in, but for some reason it just wouldn’t budge. With her chakra running low, the girl gave up on that attempt, deciding to refocus herself and to give it another go after a quick breath. If she was able to undo the two knots in her next two tries then she wouldn’t have to rest again, but if she couldn’t pull that off then she would have to take yet another break; wasting precious time in the continuously heating room as she would be fighting both hungry and tiredness. It was a tricky situation that she wanted to avoid all together. Plus, if she managed to get out she could open the window. With the time of day the sun was causing the roof overhang to cast a shadow over the window, which should help cool off the room if only by a few degrees.

Allowing herself to refocus, Amaya blocked out the hungry and the heat. If only for a little while, it would be a help. Instead she focused solely on the knot behind her back. In order to force this, she tilted her chin down slightly and closed her eyes; looking only with the tips of her fingers. It didn’t take long for her to figure out what was going wrong with her previous attempt: she had a few things backwards in her mental picture, so she had been working with the top most knot and not the lower of the two. Sighing with disappointment in herself, the girl trudged on through the mess of rope and tangles. Her fingertips were beginning to feel raw from working with the rough, fraying rope, but she just didn’t care at that point. The child was irritated with herself, she was hungry, her chakra was depleting, and this was just taking far too long. Amaya just kept reminding herself that this would all be worth it in the end. It would all be worth it sooner or later.

Approaching the knot as she had the others, the girl used her chakra to reduce resistance and friction while she tried to force the end of the knot back on itself. And, much like the other ones, this took some strength and a lot of patience. Quietly mumbling to herself, Amaya finally felt the knot finally loosen itself. With the ends falling around her wrist, the child was down to the wire. There was only one more that she had to deal with and, hopefully, it wouldn’t cause her too much trouble. However, the girl was prepared for a bit of a fight with it since she had messed up on her previous attempt and had been tugging and pulling at that one when she wasn’t supposed to be. That means that knot wasn’t in its original state and that she could have made things more difficult on herself. While the idea was frustrating, there was also that little glimmer of hope since it was the very last one. That though went rushing out the window though when that little bundle of energy flooded out of her body with the release of her chakra. This assignment was tedious, time consuming, tiresome, and testing. Yes, she was quite proud of the fact that she had come up with four f-words to describe the situation.

Knowing that she only had one more knot to go, Amaya took her time in preparation in order to give it her best attempt. The child continued looking down and took in a couple of slow breaths through her nose as she focused on what exactly it was that she was supposed to be doing. Fiddling and fumbling, the girl had a difficult trying to figure out what was supposed to go where and how exactly this last knot was formed. Then again, that was her own doing since she had mistakenly been trying to undo it when she didn’t realize what she was messing with. Everything was twisted and knotted in a manner that she knew wasn’t right, but she also didn’t know how to fix it. Even worst, it was holding fast to her wrist, even with the assistance of her chakra, so she couldn’t even slip out of its grip. Once more the child found that she was frustrated with herself. The big difference was that she was alright with being angry at herself this time. It would allow her to grow and it would also teach her a highly valuable lesson about not messing with something before you know what you’re doing.

Knowing that she didn’t have the energy left to continue trying, Amaya allowed herself to release her hold on the chakra and let that last remaining bit of energy slip away. Well, maybe not the last bit; she wouldn’t remain conscious if she let it all go away. However, the child did feel the onset of that distinct lightheadedness and the relaxed spinning of the room when she got particularly low. She had pushed that one quite a bit, so she wouldn’t even be able to force a half hearted attempt. Sighing through her nose, she was doing that quite a bit, the child decided it was time to retire for a short rest in order to gain the energy for another attempt. She wasn’t going to wait long enough to restore a notable amount. No, she was going to do what she had so foolishly done in her attempts with the chakra molding and only rest as much as she needed. Even though she was struggling, she knew the odds were in her favor for completing the task in a single go; but knowing her luck this was going to be a long and irritating process to get this blasted knot undone so that she could eat.

With a grunt Pakku stood up and dusted himself off, Chisana just panted for a bit and rested her head back on her paws. "Oh yeah, don't even try to help out your partner Chisana." Pakku said with a grin as he started running again, deciding that one more lap after this ought to do it. Then he would be done, and go inside for some lunch.

At the thought of lunch Pakku's stomach growled, oh man did he need to eat. 'Okay let's get this done quickly and me and Chisana can grab a bite to eat.' He thought with a nod as he redoubled his efforts, actually finishing the last lap rather quickly. "Ah we're finally done girl, let's go inside." He said with a grin to Chisana, who hopped off the bench and followed after him.

Resting Post

Once more the child allowed her shoulders to slump slightly as she relaxed. At that point in time she was just focused on no longer being frustrated with herself, no matter how stupid something she did was. Gently, she arched and stretched her back, then she rolled her head from side to side to do the same to her neck. This whole being bound and silenced thing was getting old, but at least she was almost done with it. However, it was times like these that she wished she had super strength and could just break the ropes in angry. Then again, at only 3’9” and only 40 pounds that wasn’t a very likely scenario at any point in her life. No, she would probably be one of those quick dodging, sneaking shinobi. Then again, she would love to see the looks on people’s faces if she did become some incredible powerful person. This was the woe of not knowing what she wanted to do with her path as a shinobi. Amaya knew she didn’t want to go into the medical field; the child just didn’t have the focus for being locked in a lab all day. The girl had always wanted a pet but she didn’t know if she wanted to train it for the purposes of being a shinobi. An obvious path from her background would be a weapons master. She had a ready supply available and the space to work on her own. Amaya was conflicted because he father had promised her either a weapon or an animal when the time came.

As quickly as she had drifted off, the girl was back in the room with her classmate; both of them bound with tempting food sitting in front of them. It was a tough reality to say the least, but it was something that she had almost struggled through. She would be proud to say that she had completed it once it was actually completed, but until then it was just going to be a pain in her side. Before she started up again, since she was only going to recover enough energy for one attempt, Amaya shifted her legs so they were more comfortable and she readjusted her spine so that it was lined up properly. Her mother had always been very strict about sitting up straight and about having good posture, so relaxing and letting her shoulders sag was a luxury when Sada wasn’t around.
