[Magma-Time Line]

Kilik could barely stand. He legs felt weak, and he watched on as a discussion between Milo the spectre and Maxie took place. Amidst the chaos around him, it was nearly impossible to hear them and he couldn't make out some words. As Milo was about to make the finishing blow, something happened. The boy raised his eyebrow as Milo appeared to be in shock. He glanced around him at the others, all of whom were just as dumbfounded as he was. The Pokemon stopped cooling the magma, as the job had been done enough. And then something amazing happened; Mike began to fight back. Like something out of a horror movie, Mike tore his own shadow out from the top of his head. Milo was screaming and steaming, before crashing to the ground in a heap of smoke. Mike, not one to leave deeds unfinished, gave Maxie a swift punch to the head to knock him out cold.

In his head, fanfare began to play. Music that made his chest swell with happiness; it was done. They had won! It was finally over. He glanced over as Kasiya ran over to Mike, hugging him tightly. Flannery followed suit behind her. A weak smile spread across his face and he looked over his shoulder. Keegan looked...he wasn't sure if it was upset or angry or exactly what the other boy was feeling, but he followed the redhead with his eyes as he crossed the bridge to stand with Kasiya. Kilik stretched a little and felt his back pop in multiple places. A small amount of pain went through his body as Flareon hopped up on his shoulder from behind. "Hey-yyy buddy, we won..." he lifted a hand and scratched underneath the fox's chin. Aggron was also stomping up behind him, his mission complete, ready for a nice long rest. "So," he said, turning around to face his metal beast, "For once in your life, you're tired. Never thought I'd see the day!" The Aggron roared in his face as he was recalled into his ball.

The black haired boy slowly crossed over the bridge, glancing down at the pool of magma that bubbled on either side. He lifted his eyes to the scene in front of him, Maxie out cold on the ground. Eventually... Kilik thought as he stood alone across from Mike and the others, we'll do the same to Team Rocket...He looked up from Maxie to Mike, who had a very emotional Flannery wrapped around him. "Way to go, Mike." He gave him a weak thumbs up. He really did it.

Flareon lifted his head a little and sniffed the girl's hand then brushed his cheek against it like a cat getting familiar with its surroundings. The fox yawned a little and then licked her fingertips. What was with Kilik? He was walking with a new girl every time he saw him. Whatever, that was his trainer's prerogative. His tail began to swish a little across his trainer's nose...

Which cause Kilik to sneeze very hard. He put a finger under his nose and sniffled a little bit, groaning. Ugh, powerful sneezes like those really hurt sometimes. "Without us? Naaah," he laughed, "Trouble seems to follow me wherever I go," he half-joked. It was at least partly true; whether it be going to the Team Aqua base to rescue Sasha, tackling and toppling Team Magma, or constantly being on the top of Team Rocket's shitlist, Kilik was a relatively wanted man in the world of Pokemon mobsters. Then again, all of his friends were.

"Alllright," Kilik stretched a little as they approached the clearing they were in not three hours ago, "Now that we're out of the city, I can show you the others! Some of them don't get along so I'll do it in pairs." He took a Park Ball and a PokeBall off his belt and tossed them up into the air. He glanced over at Cable, who was standing tall and ready to see his companions again.

From the ParkBall burst Kilik's green Scizor. She landed on the ground with a graceful dive, sparkles showering around her. The insect landed in a pose set for battle, however when there was none to be had, she stood up straight and glanced over her shoulder. Master Kilik had summoned her...why? Her steel gaze turned to Katie and the warrior bowed to the orange haired girl. Scizor closed her pincers and looked around; this was certainly a beautiful day.

And from the Pokeball came his Weezing, floating upside down with the dumbest possible grin. He put himself right-side up and looked down at the ground to see both Kilik and Scizor, along with a pretty orange haired girl. "Weeeez!" he floated down to her and puffed a large, heart shaped cloud of smog in her face then chortled happily to himself as he floated over to Cable and the smaller Pokemon. It was so nice to just float around outside and be happy! Where was some garbage to eat? That was the real question! He had already devoured all the compost back at Kilik's house and was eager for more!

Kilik waved his hand to try and clear some of the smog in front of Katie and laughed rather sheepishly. "Sorry about that, he's...easily excited." He glanced up at Weezing, who was turning in circles in the sky, farting small hearts around himself. "And that's how he's always been."

Electabuzz had thrown back his head and started to laugh when the Muk's shadowy fist did nothing, but he'd soon be eating that laugh as he was smacked in the back of the head by a brain-rattling punch. The Electabuzz staggered forward, clutching his head with his hands. That hurt, and now he was angry! First this thing tries to blind him, and now it sucker-punches the back of its head? The Electabuzz let out a roar, static crackling across every inch of his body. Surge's grin never faltered, his eyes narrowing slightly as he studied his daughter. Kid's gotten good, I'll give her that, but she ain't seen nothin' yet! He clapped his hands together, definitely not planning on going easy on her. "Electabuzz, get in there and crush 'em with yer Thundapunch!" Electabuzz didn't need to be told twice and in an instant he'd raced across the ground and was slamming another electrified fist downward and into the Muk's body.

Kasiya knew it would be pretty futile trying to get Bubbles to dodge, and she quietly hoped the previous Harden would hold up against the Thunderpunch. Once again the Muk cried out, its voice sounding like water being sucked down a severely clogged drain. This time, however, the static didn't fizzle out after the electric attack and instead it rippled through the outer layer of the Pokemon's oily body. Kasiya wasn't sure of the physiology of a Muk but somehow the Sludge Pokemon had been paralyzed. "Hang in there, Bubbles! Hit 'em hard with Pound!" she called. She didn't know why, but she suddenly felt very obligated to win this battle, as the thought of losing in front of Riza and Crenu but mostly Riza really irked her. Bubbles lashed out with a surprisingly fast and mucky fist, catching Electabuzz in the stomach for a fairly solid hit. This time, it was Muk's turn to have his ability kick in as poison began to settle in to the Electric-type's system.

"Heh, one's paralyzed, an' the other's poisoned," Surge laughed, shaking his head. It didn't bother the large man, however, as he had one final ace up his sleeve, and he was pretty sure it would end the match, here and now. "Electabuzz, let's finish 'em! Electro Ball!" he barked, thrusting his massive hand forward. Electabuzz, while starting to feel the effects of the poison, shook himself and brought his hands together in front of him. An orb of pure electricity began to take shape and grow, and with an almost savage roar, he hurled it at the Muk with all his might. Surge had only recently discovered that some of his Pokemon could learn this attack, and it came in handy against slower opponents, especially after they'd been paralyzed. If that didn't end the battle, well then, he'd eat his dog tags.

Electro Ball? Kasiya repeated mentally, time feeling as though it slowed down as she thought of where she'd heard of that before. Again, there was nothing she could do for Bubbles and she was helpless as she watched the electrified sphere speed through the air and crash into the poor, paralyzed and equally helpless Muk. Needless to say it was enough to bring him down, and with a pitiful little gurgle Bubbles sank into a puddle on the ground, losing any semblance of a sentient creature. Kasiya gave a heavy sigh, but forced a smile, recalling the Muk into his Great Ball. "Well, considering that was our very first battle together, I think you did quite well," she told the blue and white sphere as she clicked it back onto her belt, trying not to make eye contact with her dad. "That's enough for now," she mumbled, trying to ignore the sting of defeat as she trotted over to where Crenu and Riza stood, careful to avoid the oily patches on the ground that the Muk had left behind. She spotted the Quilava by Riza's side and was instantly reminded of Felsic, though the only memory her mind would allow her to recall was him and Mike's other Fire-types all drawing in power for that four-Pokemon SolarBeam, and she shivered even though the weather was warm. "Hi guys," she said, trying to be cheerful. "I saw you on TV last night. That was one heck of a contest. Congratulations on your win, Riza," she added, looking up at the taller, dark-haired girl. There was no point in not trying to be civil, even if it always felt like everyone was so much taller than she was.

To say that Jake's dreams were troubled was a bit of an understatement, as night terrors was probably a more suitable term. All night long he dreamed of cold darkness and deep voids dragging him down, and he could never shake off the hopeless, lost feeling. It was always the same; he was underwater, struggling for air, and no matter how hard he tried to move his arms and legs, they were frozen in place as though held down by weights. He could see faint light above him but that gradually grew darker, as well. And then all at once, a large, ferocious creature with a gaping mouth and covered in blue scales was lunging at him, ready to swallow him whole. He awoke several times in the night in a cold sweat, chilled to the bone and terrified, and it took a long time for him to remember where he was and what he had been doing before he'd silently cry himself back to sleep once again. His dreams didn't become more restful until Grotle lay beside him, Bibarel keeping watch close by. Neither Pokemon knew what frightening dreams plagued their trainer so, but there was no way in hell they'd let anything in the real world get near him.

At long last Jake opened his eyes to find that the sun had risen, bringing with it sweet, sweet warmth and the boy sat up, rubbing his eyes and stretching his somewhat stiff limbs. It hadn't been the softest ground to sleep on, but it was definitely better than waking up in the sandy shallows of a beach. He glanced over to see that Jade and her Vulpix were still asleep, or at least appeared to be, anyway. Grotle and Bibarel were both sleeping as well. Jake stood up to stretch his legs, very suddenly finding himself to be a lot more modest now that he didn't have the darkness to help obscure him, and though you couldn't even see anything anyway he scrambled for his jeans, which he prayed had dried out over night. They were only a bit damp, probably just from the dew and he pulled them on, grumbling a bit at how stiff the fabric had become. He folded up the blue polo from the day before and stuffed it into his backpack, now looking around to try and gain some sort of idea of where they'd ended up during their trip down the river.

Karrigan was certain that this was what panic felt like as she frantically searched for her missing Shinx, wondering what could have gotten into the Shinx's head that would make her want to take off like that. She was furious with Zaira, and also with herself. She really should have put her into her Pokeball when Amy had recalled Marshall. To make matters worse, it felt like there were more people coming toward her, making it difficult to go with the flow of the pedestrian traffic and she grunted as she was bumped and shoved, though at least a few people were polite enough to utter their apologies. A tall and burly man in a sports jacket pushed past her then, hard enough to send her to the pavement. She managed to crawl out of harms way, ignoring the stinging in her palm as she took refuge under the awning of a building that seemed to be empty, at least it could be assumed as there was a large 'space for rent' sign posted in the dusty window. Karrigan got to her feet and looked around, the panic starting to grow. Not only had she lost Zaira, but now, she'd lost Amy, too!

The redhead didn't have a clue as to what she should do now, but after about a minute of sitting there, chest heaving, her wise Kadabra let himself out of his Pokeball. Milady, if I may, was all Lennier said, bowing his head before he disappeared from sight, and it wasn't until just before the Psychic-type reappeared did she realize that he had used Teleport. A small, terrified mewing caught her ear and she looked down to see that Zaira was standing beside her teammate, golden eyes wide with fright. Karrigan had no time to voice her relief or distress as Lennier had used his psychic powers to return the Shinx to the safety of her Pokeball, and now he placed a hand on his trainer's shoulder. You may wish to close your eyes, was all the warning Karrigan got, and she did, feeling a strange, almost floating sensation before she opened her eyes again. She let out a quiet gasp when she saw she was standing in front of the southern gate of Saffron City. Lennier was quite fast, as again before she could say anything, he'd Teleported from sight.

The Kadabra appeared again next to Amy, immediately apologizing for the suddenness of his presence. Do not worry, Miss Amy, the situation is under control. Unless you have strong objections, I will Teleport us back to Miss Karrigan and we can resume our travels under less chaotic circumstances. However, you may wish to close your eyes, the Kadabra told the bespectacled girl telepathically, giving the same warning he had to his trainer only moments ago. And, if Amy allowed it, they'd all be reunited safely, and able to get out of this crazy city.

Panic was beginning to flood her mind; Amy was growing more and more unsure if she was supposed to turn here or go ahead, if that redhead in the alleyway was Karrigan or if it was a stranger, if the mewing she heard was Zaira or if it was some other person's Pokemon. And she swiftly realized her own mistake of not even knowing a way to communicate with Karrigan if they had gotten separated; for all intensive purposes, they could be far apart and never be able to find each other again. The thought of being so suddenly alone was frightening, and she was also worried for overexcitable Zaira and for her poor, exasperated trainer. She began to hurry ahead, ignoring the sharp sting of someone's elbow in her ribcage as they tried to move past or the way her glasses were askew, threatening to slip off the bridge of her nose and fall victim to the sole of someone's boot.

"Karrigan! Zaira!" she called, her voice drowned out by the roar of the city. Amy gasped, wiping the sweat from her brow and trying to find some indicator of where she was. But there was no red roof of the PokeCenter, nor a blue one of the PokeMart. She paused, bracing herself against the wall of a building that was not currently open, breathing hard. Where had they gone? How long could she search, how long would it take to find them again? Maybe we'd meet in Vermillion, if we could. But the problem was, she had no idea where she was anymore.

Suddenly, Lennier was there beside her, his calm, polite tone already sending floods of relief through her body. She began to ask a question, but he was already explaining that things were fine and she took the Psychic-type's hand, squeezing her eyes shut. And, within an instant, a disorienting feeling coarsed through her veins, but the noise of the city was much more muted and she found that they were at a gatehouse. Amy laughed a little breathlessly.

"Thank you, Lennier," she gasped, and turned to find her redheaded companion, offering her a relieved smile. "Are you all right? Is Zaira all right? I'm sorry I got lost--there were just so many people and I seemed to have lost track of you two. And we should really have some way of communicating; I was really worried before Lennier showed up. Do you have a phone?" She paused, realized that her nervousness had her talking at high speeds. Amy laughed a little and tried to decompress from the situation. "I'm sorry."

Jade had not dreamt when she was on the ship, which was infinitely more comfortable than the cold, hard ground of some place in Sinnoh, but now she found herself granted with several vivid dreams. She dreamt of a boy who did not know who he was, and no matter how many times she asked, he could not tell her his name, which was gravely upsetting at the time. She dreamt of a woman come from the mountains, her gaze cold and unforgiving, her Pokemon strong enough to beat down Solaris and Aquarius without mercy. And then, she dreamt of herself. She was back in the kimono house, her face and clothing covered with dirt and grime, but her eyes glittering with determination. She battled a woman she did not recognize, someone with carefully controlled features who never smiled and commanded an Umbreon, which somehow beat her entire team of six, strong Pokemon. When she demanded to know how she had lost, the woman made no reply. She simply melted away into the shadows with her only companion.

When she awoke, the raven-haired girl was confused, blinking furiously at the bright sunlight of the morning. She began to roll over, but she found herself staring into a pair of equally disgruntled eyes; it seemed that Solaris did not enjoy her new accommodations, and she growled discontentedly, informing her trainer of her opinion of living on the road. "Get over yourself," the girl muttered half-heartedly, rolling the other way and finding that her friend was already awake, and dressed. He seemed to be surveying the area, and she got up and stretched with much emphasis, as if to let him know that she was awake.

"Maybe we ought to pick up camping equipment somewhere," Jade said, by means of greeting, as she combed her fingers through her hair to make sure no grass had gotten entangled. She went over to collect her clothes and called Solaris over to stand guard while she changed, brushing past Jake with a casual nod. It was almost silent as she changed back into her preferred clothing, Jade noted, which meant that there weren't any trainers around. Solaris was staring intently at some bushes, and when her trainer looked, she could've sworn she saw a pair of eyes peeking out at them, but they were gone before she could figure anything out. Chalking it up to be a wild Pokemon of any sort, the raven-haired girl returned back to their minimalist camp, smiling at her companion. Now that she was dressed and rested, she felt much better.

"I wonder what's around these parts," she said conversationally, releasing Aquarius to join them. At this point, it couldn't hurt, and the little duck seemed pleased to be out and in less stressful situations. His trainer certainly was drawing excitement, and he seemed to be dragged into a lot of it. Jade stood there, not sure what to do now, but now that she was growing used to the silence, she could hear the sounds of the nature around them. Some Pokemon were rustling through the trees, or perhaps the grass; the water was rushing nearby. And then she heard it, the hum of something in the distance, like a generator. "Do you hear that?" she asked softly, nodding in the direction of the sound. "It sounds almost like... like a factory, don't you think?"

Jett was stumbling back before the thing leapt out of the grass, hissing. He saw a blur of purple and he stumbled back over a rock, tripping and landing on the ground. The impact sent pain lancing through him, and the boy belatedly realized that there was something on him. The Ekans reared back, hissing again, eyes narrowed at the trainer that had dared to challenge her. He yelled out in surprised, scrambling back on the palms of his hands and managing to shake the Poison-type off. He hadn't had many experiences with Ekans, but he knew that they were dangerous; he hadn't known that they actually attacked strangers. This one might've been an exception to that rule, however.

Ekans slithered after the frightened trainer, already opening her mouth to reveal a set of nasty looking fangs. Jett scrambled for his belt, grabbing a Pokeball and opening it to find that it was one of his empty ones. He gasped, trying to get back up on his feet just as the Snake Pokemon reared back to strike. There was a sudden flash and Ekans was driven away by an invisible force. River stood between the two now, having released himself when he sensed his trainer's distress, eyes narrowed as he stepped forward to meet the aggravated snake. Jett finally stood up, shaking with adrenaline, but found that his mind was growing clear instead of cloudy. Since Psychic-type attacks were super effective on Poison-types, he knew that the Confusion attack must've been a real hard-hitter for the considerably weaker Ekans.

"River," he said, his voice steady despite the trembling of his hands. "Don't use Confusion again." He wasn't sure why, but he had the keen instinct of not wanting to knock out this Pokemon as of yet. The Kirlia glanced back at Jett, both disappointed and intrigued, but that one second was more than enough for his opponent. Ekans attacked again, launching himself at River for the strongest Bite he could muster.

The starly fluttered out of the Clear Smog huffing, puffing, and wheezing, all the while losing altitude. A small smile spread across Jenea’s face. “Don’t let up, use Tackle!” Moody shook his head as the last of the smog escaped his mouth before diving down and ramming the Starling Pokémon head first. The bird fell down in spurts, struggling in vain to stay in the air. As soon as it vanished behind a thick clump of grass a few feet away, Moody began bouncing up and down in victory. That was shorter than I expected, Jenea thought, watching Moody do his little victory dance.

Moody came down, making a few sudden drops here and there until it was on level with Jenea’s head. He showed his obvious enjoyment of the victory with a grin, or a strained one at least. A little worse for wear, a little winded, but Moody still had tons of energy radiating from him out of sheer pride in his abilities. And it was hard for Jenea to not feel pride in her Pokémon winning his first battle, but it was still his previous actions that got him in that incident in the first place. Jenea hid the remainder of her smile, putting on her tough girl face, and said, “You shouldn’t be too happy with yourself. Your immaturity got us in that predicament.” Moody froze for a second as the reality of the matter hit him and he calmed down. Maybe it really isn’t the nicest thing to use Clear Smog on an unaware Pokémon as a prank. “Until we reach the next city you are staying close to me. You are grounded, mister.” With a solemn nod, Moody hovered lower to the ground. All the way to the ground, in fact, practically sitting down. Jenea let a laugh slip through from Moody’s literal interpretation of the punishment. Of course she knew that he knew what she really meant and was just trying to get a laugh, but Jenea was not going to deny that it worked. Moody bobbed back up to her head and beamed at his success.

Shrill chirping from behind Moody caught her attention. “Eh? What was tha…” The sentence died in her mouth as she saw half a dozen, wait, an actually dozen, no, Jenea honestly could not tell how many starly had come out of the bush grass but it was certainly more than Moody could handle right now. At the head of the flock was a thoroughly battered starly squawking orders at the others. She did not have much time to react, so she followed her first instinct. She turned to the opposite direction, her arm outstretched to clothesline/arm grab Moody and run, still clutching the Pokédex in her other hand. Unamused by the sudden rough housing, the living cloud struggled to free himself until he saw the flock of angry birds preparing to swarm some unlucky fool. That was probably him. “I don’t remember seeing anything about starly attacking in groups!” Jenea whined, flipping back open the Pokédex as she ran away, in the exact opposite direction of the city of the first gym, back to Jubilife City.

Riza glanced over at Crenu, not at all surprised to see him studying both Pokemon. He had a very analytic side to him and she wasn't sure he could turn it off even if he wanted too. As she looked back at the Electabuzz, she realized there was always a possibility that Surge would use that Pokemon in his rematch with Crenu, so then she understood why he studied it so. She decided to do the same, now focusing her attention on the poison-type as well as the blonde girl that commanded it. Both Pokemon seemed to be very strong and she watched with interest as first Muk became paralyzed and then Electabuzz became poisoned. She wondered how that would affect the match but it didn't seem as if it would matter as Surge's Electabuzz ended it with an impressive move called Electro Ball. Riza hadn't considered an electric-type for herself, but the Electro Ball was beautiful and she was certain that electric moves would be amazing to use in contests.

She then glanced over at Kasiya to see how well she was handling her loss, which actually quite well. Riza said nothing and folded her arms across her chest, watching as the girl now crossed the battlefield to greet them. The people that had gathered around had started to leave now that the match was over. Eris immediately moved forward to sniff the new person, even when Riza told her not to, and the dark haired girl sighed. "Hey," she said, her tone not nearly as enthusiastic as Kasiya's, but she was unable to hold back her smile as Kasiya congratulated her on her contest win the night before. "Thank you," she replied, but didn't really know what else to say. "Your Muk is...rather interesting."

Katie couldn't help but giggle at the warm feeling of Flareon's fur on her hand, and when he licked the tips of her fingers. The fire-type was very sweet, but he seemed to be quite tired. "Bless you," she said, nodding to Kilik as he loosed a rather harsh sneeze, it looked like it had been painful. She almost didn't realize they'd returned to the spot they were in earlier, at least until she saw the places where Cable had smashed the ground. She looked on in anticipation as Kilik released two of his Pokemon, fully understanding what he meant by some of the Pokemon not getting along and she shot a rueful glance at her Monferno and Staravia, even if they were behaving right now. Noa let Miles down and he darted around the ground, a lot more energetic than usual.

The orange haired girl looked on in amazement as a green insect with the all poise and elegance of an experienced warrior appeared, though at first Katie didn't realize she was looking at a Scizor. She'd never seen one in person before, but the photographs and ones she'd seen on TV had always been red. 'Oh, she has a different colouring than normal Scizor, just like Noa is different from normal Staravia,' she thought, feeling inclined to return Scizor's bow. Normally she couldn't tell just by looking, but this time she was certain she was in the presence of a very strong Pokemon. The other Pokemon Kilik released was a lot less...well, everything that Scizor was, but he certainly had a personality of his own. One of the tailors on her mother's fashion team had a Koffing, but again, she'd never seen, or smelled, a Weezing up close before. She coughed a bit when the ball of floating gas breathed a cloud of smog in her face, eyes watering too much to see that it was shaped like a heart. She continued to try and fan away the smog, still managing a smile as Weezing drifted away, laughing and spinning and puffing out smaller hearts of smog all around. Nell clamped her paws over her nose while Kord just waved. He figured that while Katie's Roselia smelled nice, there had to be Pokemon that were just the opposite and smelled bad, but either way it didn't bother the little Elekid. "Oh, he's not bothering me," Katie said, nodding to the happy Weezing. "He's very sweet in his own, different way."

The match continued on as it neared the climax, Electabuzz delivered a powerful thunderpunch that paralysed Muk, but contact with the vial sludge caused him to get poisoned in the process. With both pokemon suffering from ill effects it was hard to tell who was closer to victory, but Surge made it clear for everyone. Crenu had never heard of electroball, but as he say the sphere of electricity whip towards Muk and erupt with terrifying power he could see that it was a very good attack. Electric types were looking more and more interesting by the moment, but he then recalled that there were a whole slew of new moves popping up in just about all pokemon since regional borders had been opened, and all types were sure to have interesting new moves. But as for Surge and electroball, Crenu still didn't know how it worked, just that he was going to have to try and avoid the high speed attack. If an Elektabuzz had the move, other pokemon in Surge's care were sure to have it as well. If all else failed Pupitar was a ground type, but he didn't want to go that road if he didn't have to. For now Crenu put the problem away in his mind as Kasi approached, and said nothing as he watched her interaction with Riza. It was now that he started to notice the attitude Riza seemed to have towards Kasi. Even as the blond approached in a cheerful manor she just shrugged it off and sighed, apparently only answering because Eris was being naturally curious about the new person. He didn't know what was up between these two ladies, in fact the he didn't recall the two even meeting while he'd been with one or the other at the festival. It was clear they knew each other though so they must have crossed pathway at some point before he met them or while he and Riza had been apart. Whatever it was, it wasn't really his business and he hoped to keep it that way for as long as possible. "Yes, your Muk is quite interesting indeed...but my inquiries about the sludge specimen will have to wait. I have business with your friend over there." He said looking at the massive Surge. "If you'll excuse me." Turning to Riza he gave her a light kiss, walking up to Surge with confidence. For one he was glad to leave the tense air between Riza and Kasi, but he was burning for a fight right now and wanted to get right to the point before anything got a chance to interfere. "I want a rematch. A tie just doesn't sit well with me, unfinished business keeps me awake at night. A match against a gym should end decisively. All matches should for that matter."

Surge watched with interest as the three trainers, including his daughter, exchanged a few words. It was both surprising and interesting that Kasiya knew them, though at the same time Surge wasn't overly surprised. However, they didn't all appear to be on friendly terms, as the two girls seemed to have a bit of tension sparking between them. He chuckled a bit as Crenu wisely distanced himself them, pretty sure he already knew why the blonde trainer was back here in Vermilion. And, of course, he was right, and he nodded in agreement, both impressed and respectful of the confidence in the younger trainer's stride and tone of voice. "Ah, yes, of course," he said. "I git it, and I don't blame ya, either. I'd be happy to have a rematch with ya, son, but first I want ta get Electabuzz here healed. Here, Kasi, take my keys and open the gym up for me, will ya?" he called, tossing a heavy key ring in Kasiya's direction, and then he turned and headed back inside the center.

"Thanks!" Kasiya beamed, quite oblivious to the true meaning of the tone of Riza's voice, as she'd been distracted by the comments about Bubbles, even if interesting wasn't exactly a compliment, and she nodded as Crenu excused himself. "Okay, sure thing," she said, waving even though he'd already turned his back on the two girls. "What does he mean by 'business'?" she mumbled, not quite hearing the words exchanged between Crenu and her father and she'd directed the question to no one in particular. A bit startled by the sudden weight of a set of keys being thrown her way, she caught them, nodding even as she looked back to Riza. "Your ribbon, may I please see it sometime?" she asked earnestly. "I've never seen one up close before," she added, starting to head to the gym. "Oh, wait, I get it! You guys are gonna challenge my dad to a gym battle, right?" she grinned, rubbing her hands together and managing to drop the keys. She snatched them up and started to jog back toward the gym, certain the others would follow. She loved watching her father battle even more than she loved battling him herself, and she loved it way more when her friends were battling him!

Jake had managed to discern which direction was north by the time he heard Jade stirring, and he turned to look at her, smiling. "Yeah, maybe we should," he agreed with a nod. He did have all that money he'd won from the gym before, and even if he didn't pick up a tent and all the fancy things, having at least a sleeping bag would be nice as last night had proven it could get quite cold out, and his nightmares hadn't helped matters. Seeing Jade fussing with her hair prompted him to run his fingers through his own blonde mess, but he knew that it would stick up at odd angles no matter what he did. He also hoped he hadn't kept Jade awake, and that she hadn't known what an awful night he had. He stifled a yawn as she went off to get changed and wandered back down to the river bank. He could clearly see his footprints from the night before and he sighed. Things could have gone a lot worse and he knelt down and splashed some of the cold water on his face.

"I don't know," he replied, looking back at Jade as she'd returned and released her Psyduck. The noise around their small camp had caused Jake's Pokemon to stir and they both sat up sleepily. Grotle plodded over to his trainer for a drink of water while Bibarel simply scratched her stomach. For a moment, things were as silent as nature would let them be - Jake could hear the sounds of Starly in the trees nearby, and out of the corner of his eye he saw a Butterfree flutter by and he felt a twinge of excitement. It faded pretty quickly, however, when he realized it wasn't a Butterfree, but some other sort of butterfly Pokemon, and he couldn't understand why he felt so disappointed.

He looked up again as Jade pointed out another sound and he strained his ears, now able to hear the whirring in the distance. He listened a few moments more, now able to hear a metallic clanking, as well, and he glanced back toward the line of trees. It was coming from behind them, not from across the water. "Yeah, you're right," he nodded, looking up as what looked like a larger version of a Starly sped past overhead, crowing loudly. "Maybe that power plant is nearby. If we go check it out, I bet some of the workers can tell us where we are and put us on the right track." He grinned, and slipped on his wooden sandals, making a note to buy some shoes the next time they made it to civilization. His stomach chose that exact moment to growl loudly, and his cheeks flushed a little. "Aaand maybe they also know where we can find some breakfast," he added, still a little embarrassed.

The time in between Lennier's teleporting of Karrigan to the southern Saffron gate and his vanishing, presumably to find Amy. Karrigan was sure time was going by slower and she put her good hand up to her chest, feeling that her heart was beating rapidly. She unhooked Zaira's Pokeball from her belt and looked at it, frowning. She'd always known the Electric-type was spirited, but this was the final straw. If it hadn't been for Lennier's quick thinking, the Shinx probably would have been lost for good; snatched up by some greedy trainer. Shinx were not native to Kanto, after all, and it was likely that someone would notice her. The redhead sighed, now noticing that her damaged hand had started to bleed - no doubt having been torn open once again when she fell. Karrigan slipped it into her pocket, not wanting to attract any worry from her comrades, and it was just in time, too as Lennier reappeared, a somewhat startled-looking Amy at his side.

You're quite welcome, the Kadabra answered. I am happy to help.

Karrigan nodded, forcing a small smile. "Yes, I'm fine." Though it was against her better judgement, she released the Shinx again. Zaira was still shaking from her ordeal, but when she saw that everyone was together again, she started to calm down. "Thanks to Lennier, Zaira is all right, as well." The redhead knelt down in front of the small Electric-type. "What happened back there? Why did you run away from me?" she asked. Her tone was a little harsh, though she hadn't meant for it to be. The Shinx's ears drooped and she lowered her head, giving a soft cry.

She feared she had fallen behind and made an attempt to catch up to you, Miss Karrigan, Lennier spoke up, translating for the kitten. It was an error of judgement. She did not mean to cause trouble. Zaira nodded, still looking quite miserable.

Karrigan sighed, and placed her good hand on Zaira's head. "It's my fault," she said, nodding slowly. "I should have put you back into your Pokeball, or at least picked you up. It wouldn't have happened if I had been more responsible as a trainer. I.... I'm sorry." Her eyes prickled a bit with tears but she was able to stop them, instead standing up. "Thank you, Lennier." Both her Pokemon were returned to their respective Pokeballs, and she turned to Amy. "Yes, I do have a phone. We should exchange numbers, that way if something likes this happens again, we'll be better prepared."

Riza couldn't hold back a little smile at Shiro's quick kiss, and she nodded. "Go for it, Shiro, I know you can do it," she said, glancing from him back to Kasiya again. Eris gave a small bark and nudged her trainer's leg, letting her know that she was still there and was full of energy. Riza glanced at her Quilava and then up the blonde, who'd just asked to see her ribbon. "Uh, sure, I guess?" she answered, a bit surprised by the request and she wondered if anyone else would ask to see it. However as she reached for her ribbon case, Kasiya was given a ring of keys to open the gym and she seemed to make a connection. Riza grinned, surprised at how eager she was to burst the younger girl's bubble. "Actually, no, we've-" but she was cut off as Kasiya dropped the keys and had picked them up again and was now jogging towards the gym. Eris gave a delighted squeal and chased after the blonde human, glad that someone was as energetic as she was. Riza closed her backpack and followed Kasiya, catching up to her and falling into stride alongside her. "Shiro and I have already earned Thunderbadges from your father," she said, still grinning. "But Shiro's match ended in a tie, and since that sort of thing never sits well with him, so he's here for a rematch."

Crenu nodded, watching as Surge tossed his keys to Kasi and then headed in to get his Electabuzz healed. He wondered if Kasi would do the same with her Muk first, but the blond was as charged as Surge's pokemon as bolted off for the gym. Eris and Riza followed, and Crenu just sighed lightly following as well. Hands in his pockets he walked at his own peaceful pace though as the girls ran ahead, not one to exert that kind of energy at random. The gym wasn't too far and Surge was healing up his pokemon so there was no rush, instead Crenu used the walk to the gym to think of his upcoming match. From what he'd seen so far he'd either have a one on one with Raichu, or multiple battles with what could be random electric types. He was familiar with electric pokemon from the Kanto region and Johto region, but he knew well that Surge might use pokemon from the Hoenn region which he knew nearly nothing about. What's more was the whole Sinnoh region which Crenu had only just heard of, yielding not only new pokemon but surprising evolutions like Ken's Misdreavus into Mismagius. But to dwell on that would be foolish, it did him no good to worry about unknown factors. He'd have to keep an open mind and be ready to guard against it, but for now he should focus on what he did know. There was the possibility of an Electrode or a Jolteon, both with amazing speed that none of his pokemon could rival right now. Froslass was the only pokemon on his team with impressive speed, but she was still too weak to bring into this level of battle, and while fast both of those pokemon were rather frail in comparison so he'd have to counter with crushing force to take them down before their speed could overwhelm him. There was also Magnaton, who on the other hand wasn't so fast but was capable of generating huge amounts of power, and it's typing made it pretty sturdy...without a fire type or a fighting type it could be a troublesome pokemon to deal with. Overwhelming physical power was key again here, but only of the right type. Otherwise the best way to deal with Magnaton would be key technique mobility and reflexes.

And then it hit Crenu, if he wasn't goign to use any ground types that left him with four pokemon, and since Poliwhirl was out of commission for the time being it only left him with three. Since Froslass was the youngest and weakest of his team there was no way he could let her battle, not without putting her in serious danger. So really he was down to two, Fearow and Ariados. Fearow was also on the weaker side of the spectrum, not terribly but not as strong as his main fighting force and he was weak to electric attacks as well. Ariados was the most powerful pokemon at his disposal in this situation, and she'd been unimpressive lately but he'd have to count on her to get the job done, though she wasn't really able to pull off the strategies that he'd just decided were best in those scenarios. He hated to say it, but it looked as though Crenu would have to use his ground types after all. Were this an initial gym challenge perhaps he could get away with using Froslass and Fearow, but this was a rematch where he'd challenge Surge with pure confidence asking for a hard decisive battle, and the Lightning American wouldn't take it easy on a challenge of that caliber. Not that Crenu wanted him to, but if he was going to go all out and give Surge his best he was going to have to use his most powerful arsenal. And as fate would have it that just happened to include two ground types. While challenging Surge with non ground pokemon and even pokemon with weakness to electricity would be an interesting challenge to take on, for the sake of this battle and to not insult the leader by providing a poor showing after such a bold request he may not have had a choice. Crenu scratched his chin as he thought this all out, he'd just have to wait and see what Surge brought to the table. One thing was certain though, this match would be fun. So lost in his head was he that he hadn't noticed that he'd finally caught up to the girls at the gym entrance, though he was still going over some last minuet adjustments in his head scrambling his lineup around to fit the scenarios most likely to take place.

Joe narrowed his eyes, and then smacked Pete across the back of the head. "You idiot, the only thing that's outta place is your brain! A wall is a wall, it can't get up and walk around!"

"But Joe, I know this wall ain't supposed to be here!" Pete insisted. He continued to beam his flashlight right at the wall, which was a slightly lighter hue than the true rock around it. Ditto felt its strength waver and it pressed on, doing everything in its power to hold shape. "And I'll prove it!" The low-ranking Rocket member, unseen by Jasper, dropped the items he'd been carrying and held up a red and black sphere with a glossy red R plastered onto the top. "Koffing, use Flash, now!"

From behind his makeshift wall, Jasper frowned, not only because his cover was more than likely about to be blown, but also because he never would have guessed that a Koffing could learn how to use Flash. Unfortunately for them, that was the case, and after the telltale sound of a Pokemon being released (and the laughing cry of said poison type), the immediate area was suddenly lit up by nothing short of a blinding light. Even hiding behind Ditto wasn't enough to keep the light at bay and Jasper and his Pokemon had to shield their eyes. Ditto, sadly, could do nothing but stare, dumbfounded, at the purple floating Pokemon as it appeared, the toxic symbol on its stomach glowing like a beacon. The Transform Pokemon let out a pained cry as its poor eyes were assaulted by the blinding light, and only then did the other Rocket realize that his partner had been right all along; the wall was discoloured, and now it had cried out when the Flash went off.

"Well I'll be..." Joe muttered, stepping forward as well and catching sight of Ditto's eyes. "If I ain't mistaken, this here's a Ditto," he said.

"Is it rare?" asked Pete, covering his nose as his Koffing floated around, giving off an awful aroma.

"Not especially, but think of how useful one of those would be for Team Rocket! I'm gonna catch it and give it to the boss, he'll promote me for sure!"

Not if I can help it, Jasper thought, eyes narrowed as he brought his two Pokemon close to him, and began to whisper commands...

"Ooh, I love cheese, and I love fries, too!" cried Hayley excitedly, having never considered the concept of combining two things she loved to eat. "I hope they have milkshakes," she added as their newly-formed group headed out the sliding doors of the Pokemon Center. Though she knew most of the places, Hayley nodded along, having not noticed the flower shop until Kressen had pointed it out. Hayley's Rattata kept up with the humans, trotting along and occasionally running in order to make up the lost ground, and all in all she was having a great time.

Finally, they reached a small restaurant labeled "Lou's", and Hayley tilted her head at the sight of it. It looked as though the owner had forgotten to keep up the outside and it looked a bit old, but even from outside Hayley caught a whiff of yummy smells. "Thank you, Kressen!" she beamed, smiling up at the redhead as he held the door open for her and Alex, and right away the atmosphere changed. The inside was warm and welcoming, and it smelled even better inside. Hayley had to scoop up Mya to keep her from running off. "This place is great," the brunette giggled as she slid into the booth across from Alex and Roll, Mya resting on her shoulder. She picked up the little dessert menu wedged between the salt and pepper shakers and began to examine it, finding one delicious sweet treat after the other. "Ooh, I can't wait for dessert," she giggled.

She almost wanted to urge her friend to take it easy on Zaira; Amy couldn't help but feel for the poor kitten, who seemed so small, even now. But she also understood that she must be a lot to handle at once, and it was not her place to comment. So instead she hung back, waiting for Karrigan to return her Pokemon to their respective Pokeballs before she smiled, handing her PokeGear to the redhead and taking her PokeNav in return. Once she had punched in her number, she felt a lot better about the whole situation. "Great!"

Amy was also glad to see that Lennier had transported them to the gate outside of Saffron City, which presumably lead to Vermilion. Glancing south, she saw that the route seemed to slope downwards, and understood that it meant they were descending to the shores of their next destination. They seemed so much closer now! Almost eagerly, the brunette began to walk forward, waiting for Karrigan to come along before they continued on at a steady pace.

The Pokemon seemed plentiful on this route; Amy looked at each of them with scrutiny, debating on whether or not she ought to catch them. There were a lot of Pidgey, picking at bread crumbs left by stray trainers in the grass, and a few Bellsprout playing amongst themselves. She even thought she caught sight of some Abra, but they were gone in the blink of an eye. She was surprised as to how easily she considered catching them, debating both an aptitude for battle and how certain moves might look for contests, but she knew it would never be as easy as she thought it would be. She always had an imaginative mind, but somehow she doubted that having an Alakazam would be able to make all sorts of fancy psychic coordinations without her actually knowing what she wanted. It required something... tangible. A moveset she knew by heart. And all I've come up with was Flora's Razor Leaf and Poisonpowder combination. It was almost a pang in her heart, but she knew that she could always learn better.

It was a little way into their journey down the short route that Amy noticed they had a shadow. She had lapsed into another silence, finding that she didn't need to say much to Karrigan to be comfortable, and she heard the steady tread of feet behind her. The bespectacled girl risked a glance over her shoulder and found a Meowth, staring at both of the trainers with wide eyes. Those eyes widened desperately, and suddenly the bipedal cat rushed over to Amy's side. A moment later, two picnickers clambered out of the grass, glaring angrily at the Scratch Cat Pokemon.

"Is that your Pokemon?" a boy with short, black hair demanded angrily, his face reddening. "He stole our lunch while we were having a Pokemon battle!" His companion, a girl with straight blonde hair, nodded emphatically, but Meowth only whined and clutched at Amy's hand with both of his paws. She felt blood rush to her cheeks.

"Oh, yes," she found herself saying, petting the cat's soft head. "Did he get your lunch again? I'm so sorry; he's been so bad lately." She turned to Meowth and frowned, her tone harsher. "That was very rude of you!" He stared up at her after a moment, before he turned to the two trainers and feigned a look of admonishment, mewing apologetically. Amy felt bad for lying, but the Meowth had given her such a pitiful look that she just wanted to help it. "I really am sorry. I promise, I won't let it happen again." After a tense moment in which she half-expected the trainers to challenge her to a battle for some sort of appeasement, the two trainers departed with begrudging acceptance, and Amy looked back at the Normal-type.

"That was very rude of you," she said, almost gently, petting his head. "And you shouldn't do it, because some trainers might hurt you. You can run off now." She looked back up at her redheaded friend and smiled apologetically. "I'm really sorry about that; I didn't know we'd get... entangled in something like that. Shall we?" she asked, gesturing forward, to the not-so-distant buildings of Vermilion. A glance out of the corner of her eye told her that the Meowth had strayed a bit, but he was still looking at her. And when they began to move again, he would, too, keeping his distance.

Jade watched the large bird soar off with a mild interest; a Flying-type wouldn't hurt, either. But it was already gone. She nodded in agreement to Jake's statement about the workers, and then grinned a little dryly at the idea of breakfast. Though when her stomach grumbled in reply, it didn't seem so funny anymore. "Maybe you're right," she admitted quietly. "Solaris, Aquarius. We're moving out." The Fire-type and Water-type hurried to her side, which slightly surprised her. Already, the two were getting along, or at the very least, they were tolerating each other. Solaris only seemed wary of the strange duck, especially since he had bested her, and Aquarius was oblivious towards her existence.

"I think we should be near that Floaroma place, still," Jade thought aloud, trying to remember how things had been on the map. "Which means... I only set us back. Sorry, again." Her tone wasn't as guilt-ridden as it had been in the past night; now, she was only irritated with herself, since she had made a mistake and she would inevitably have to make it up. She began to meander towards the sound of the factory's whirring, limbs stiff and sore from last night's sleep. And now as she began to really walk, it felt like pins and needles all over, as blood began to rush back to them. Her fists clenched and unclenched habitually, trying to rid themselves of the feeling as soon as possible.

"It was a good thing we both had Water-types," she said, if only to make conversation as they began to walk. "And those... those things, in the water. The otter-looking ones. I liked them, too." What else was she supposed to say? She wasn't going to ask Jake about personal things, because he would be polite and reciprocate and then she would have to lie. And she didn't particularly like lying, but when she did, she would have to do it well. And in her still slightly groggy state, lying well just didn't seem possible. "Do you know a lot of the Pokemon in this region?"

Despite the soothing song, Claire wasn’t quite out for the count. The quick witted young girl quickly stomped on her left toe with her other foot, the pain causing her to instantly awaken. “Ow-ow-ow!” She muttered under her breath as she hopped on her good leg while fumbling for a Pokeball from a slot on her back with her hand. She firmly clasped one threw it into the air; Yokai this time apparently. By now the song had stopped and a small black and tanish Pokemon jumped down from rafters of the lodge. The Pokemon stood at an angle to Claire a large mouth like appendage that jutted out from the back of its head like a ponytail grit its teeth menacingly.

“I don’t know what that thing is, but we’re going to take it down. Let’s see how much it likes to be put to sleep, use Hypnosis!” The blonde shouted as her ghost type let out a hearty grin at the chance to battle. The Gas Pokemon grew in size, his eyes emanating rings of psychic energy that would engulf his strange foe. The Mawile, however, would have none of that and shot forward with surprising speed with her large jaws at the ready. At the last second she swiveled using the fake teeth as a pivot and kicked the ghost type in the face for a super-effective Astonish attack.

Needless to say, Yokai was not pleased. Although his trainer probably didn’t realize it, he did have a new trick up his currently non-existent sleeves. The Gastly had quite a speed advantage over his opponent and put it to good use as he disappeared from the visible spectrum to sneak up on her cackling “Gastly-gaassss” all the while. It was the Deceiver Pokemon’s turn to be annoyed as her opponent suddenly vanished! The Mawile looked about, but all she could hear was it’s creepy voice. Then again, if it wasn’t going to get in her way, she’d just have to use this chance to break for the exit.

Before she could get more than a few steps toward the door out Yokai became visible just behind her. His icy blue body began to glow pure black for a moment and a wave of dark energy washed over the young Mawile. She shuddered, feeling as though her normally impermeable defenses were completely useless against the Night Shade attack.

After the two women plus their Pokemon entered the restaurant, Kressen let the door close and came over to sit beside Hayley. "Lou does make some great sundaes if you have a sweet tooth. By the way, the list of Pokemon food i on the back of the menu." He handed Alex a menu and leaned back to wait for Lou. He already knew what Gigas wanted and what he was going to get so he didn't need a menu.

Gigas however was a bit impatient and started to gnaw on Kressen's boot from underneath the table. "Hey now Lou will be out in a minute." Gigas growled impatiently, but relented his grip on his trainers boot. He then chose to go hop around the empty tables, bringing forth a sigh from his trainer. They were the only ones in here at the moment, but that didn't mean it was okay for Gigas to act so rowdy.

"Lou doesn't like it when you do that. Neither does Gou since he is the one that cleans them." Gigas just stuck his tongue out Kressen and continued to dance around on the table top. Kressen let out a weary sigh as the moody little beast ignored him. "I warned you bud."

An annoyed growl came from the kitchen and the door opened up revealing an large Machamp clad in a bus boy outfit. In his four arms he held cleaning supplies, bu he set those down on an empty table as he advanced towards Gigas. The fire type wisely leaped off the table and ran over to Kressen looking up, oh so innocently up at him.

"Told you so. Sorry about that Gou we'll take the usual if you don't mind. My friends might need another moment to decide on what they want." Gou glared at the charmander for a moment longer the nodded at Kressen. A smile came over it's face as it waited on Haley and Alex's orders to be made. It was a funny transformation to see on such an intimidating Pokemon go from annoyed to friendly in a few seconds.

The little kiss exchanged between Crenu and Riza hadn't gone unnoticed by Kasiya, and she couldn't help but wonder how the two of them had gotten together. She recalled seeing them together at the Beach Party, around the time Professor Rowan's seminar had started, but after that, she'd lost track of them, though she wasn't surprised considering all the chaos that had erupted after the Team Rocket attack. Regardless, the two seemed happy together and that made Kasiya happy. After all, just because she wasn't happy didn't mean other people couldn't be happy. She glanced behind her to see Crenu following along at a leisurely pace while Riza jogged along beside her. She resisted the urge to frown when Riza mentioned that the two of them had already won their badges from her father, instead smiling. "Wow, really? That's great," she said, though not at all surprised that Crenu wouldn't be happy with a tie. She knew her father wouldn't be happy with a tie, either, though he didn't often hand out badges to trainers he tied with. He preferred a cut-and-dry decision.

Upon reaching the gym, Kasiya unlocked the doors with the appropriate key and pushed them open, the sounds echoing loudly through the empty gym. Kasiya slipped inside fearlessly, knowing exactly where to go in order to turn on all the lights. She left the electrical display off, knowing full well her dad would want to turn it on himself.

Surge arrived at the gym shortly after the others did, having quickly gotten healing for his Electabuzz. On the walk back he'd let Raichu out of his Pokeball and the mouse was riding comfortably on his master's shoulder, still looking a little weary. He'd battled so much lately he couldn't count them all. Since it wasn't an official match, a league-sanctioned referee wouldn't be necessary and Surge crossed the large empty space, tiled with squares that concealed the gym's puzzle beneath them. "Awrite," he said, flipping the switch and sending the electricity sparking through the display up on the roof, "are you ready, son? We'll do three on three this time, I figure that'll make things more interestin'. You ladies can watch if ya want, but stay outta the way," he said, motioning to Kasiya and Riza. "And the little fire bug, too," he added, pointing at Eris. "Here, Kas, take this. You went runnin' off to the gym so I got Nurse Joy to send some medicine for yer Muk. Make sure you heal 'im." The large gym leader gave the blonde girl a small bag containing medicines before took his position, hauling in a large lungful of air as he chose his first Pokemon. The Pokeball the threw opened to reveal a three-faced magnet, a Magneton. It droned quietly, all three eyes fixated on their opponent.

Kasiya had taken the medicines and retreated off to the bleachers, a place she was quite familiar and comfortable with after all the time she'd spent here. She sat down on the bottom row and released her Muk, who was still looking quite worn out and weak. "You were great back there, Bubbles," she told the Poison-type. Bubbles gave a happy-sounding groan and poked his trainer's leg with a goopy finger. Kasiya recoiled, fearing being poisoned, but when the Pokemon's touch didn't hurt her, she relaxed. Apparently he could hold back the toxins if he wanted to. "Here, these medicines will make you feel better," she said, offering the Hyper Potion. She started to spray it on the Pokemon, but instead he reached out and grabbed the vial, eating it in one, loud and disgusting bite. "Okay, you and Kilik's Weezing could be best friends," she laughed.

Jake honestly had no recollection of how long they had been in the water, or how far they'd been carried downstream, but as he walked toward the riverbank and looked upstream, he could see nothing that looked familiar. "Things happen for a reason," was all he said in reply to Jade's apology, flashing her a grin. Since he didn't have any real plans to be set back, it didn't bother him too much, and it was a beautiful and sunny morning. He stretched again, feeling several pops and cracks move up his spine and some of his joints and he picked up his bag off the ground and began to follow after the dark-haired girl, choosing to recall his two Pokemon as they both still seemed quite sleepy.

"Yeah, it would have been difficult without Aquarius and Bibarel," he replied, remembering the little otter-like Pokemon that Bibarel had thanked once they'd reached the safety of land. "They were pretty cool-looking, and great swimmers, too." As they walked, he pulled out his PokeDex and did a search on Water-types native to the Sinnoh region, and he shook his head in response to Jade's question. "No, well, at least I don't think I do," he replied, but then stopped, cheeks tinted red as he realized what he'd just said. "Uh, well, that is, no. No, I don't." He cleared his throat and adjusted his backpack before he flipped open and turned on the handheld computer. "Let's see," he murmured, slowly flipping the pages as he scanned them. "Piplup, Prinplup, Empoleon, Bibarel... ah hah! Here it is! Those Pokemon that helped us out back there were Buizel. It evolves into this cool sea-otter-weasel-looking thing called Floatzel," he said, handing the device to Jade so she could see. "Those two tails must make swimming a breeze."

Navigating their way through the trees wasn't overly difficult, though again Jake found himself wishing he'd thought to shop for shoes back when he was still in Jubilife, or even Floaroma. While comfortable, the wooden sandals he now wore weren't the best things for hiking. Luckily, it didn't take too long as after only about five minutes or so, there was a break in the trees and the two trainers found themselves looking the Fuego Ironworks. "Well, how about that," was all Jake could say.

Karrigan sighed again, giving Zaira another pat before returning both the Shinx and Kadabra to their respective Pokeballs. She too felt a little better as she made a new entry in Amy's PokeGear with her name and phone number. Once they'd made the exchange she placed the device back in her bag, feeling more prepared. "We should have thought of this sooner," the redhead admitted somewhat sheepishly. Now that things had calmed down, Karrigan took a moment to look around, realizing that Lennier had teleported them just outside of the southern Saffron gate, and she recognized the gently sloping route that would take them to the seaside city. She wasn't sure, but Karrigan thought that maybe she could see a hint of blue on the horizon.

Unlike Amy, Karrigan didn't pay as much attention to the Pokemon they passed by en route. She watched, with disinterest, a flock of Pidgey pecking at the ground, and nearby there were some Grass-types that she did not recognize. Of course there were the numerous purple Rattata scurrying around, and Karrigan thought she saw a white puffball of a Pokemon hop from tree to tree. Karrigan's thoughts weren't focused on capturing any more Pokemon, as at the time she was far more concerned with training and raising the five she had. After all, the debacle at the Celadon Gym would weigh heavily on her mind until the day she could challenge Erika to a rematch, and win.

Karrigan, at first, was oblivious to the tail they had picked up as they walked, a comfortable silence between the two trainers. She didn't notice the footsteps behind her until the feline Pokemon had placed itself beside Amy. "Who's that Pokemon?" Karrigan mumbled to herself, but refrained from taking out her PokeDex as a boy approached them. It seemed that the cat Pokemon now clinging to Amy's hand had stolen someone's lunch. Karrigan opened her mouth to say something but decided against it, instead staring at Amy as she stuck up for the cat. It seemed just as surprised as Karrigan was, but the redhead remained silent, deciding it was quite brave of Amy to defend a Pokemon that didn't even belong to her.

Once the two trainers had left, surprisingly without demanding a battle, Karrigan took out her PokeDex, identifying the feline as a Meowth. She quickly read over its entry, nodding slowly to herself as she took in the information. Karrigan smiled at her friend as she shooed the cat away. "Considering what Zaira has put me through lately, that was pretty tame." She glanced back at the Meowth, noting it hadn't gone very far, and was staring at Amy with its wide eyes. "Yes, we should keep going. It isn't far now." Though this time, as they walked along, Karrigan was aware of the feline following them at a distance.

[Time Skip]

Flareon hopped down from Kilik's shoulder and approached Scizor, looking up at her. The two had been close friends and comrades for what felt like an eternity; they bowed to each other as a sign of respect. He'd known the silent warrior since Kilik had caught her as a Scyther. He remembered saving her from Team Rocket. There was plenty of side-by-side battles together. A smile appeared on the fox's lips as Kilik recalled her. "Flareon!" he barked up at the Weezing, who was now floating a little higher into the sky, away from the other Pokemon. Flareon remembered quite clearly the day he helped Kilik capture the Koffing. He smelled even worse now, but he knew just how strong and capable the dim-wit was deep down. Kilik also recalled his gas ball and left Flareon out on his own to explore. He ran over to the Buizel to play a small game of tag to let the Water-type expend some of his apparent excess energy.

Kilik scratched his cheek as he took out the next two balls; another PokeBall and a blue Great Ball. "These two...are a little big bigger than the others," he explained to her. He wasn't sure what kind of Pokemon Katie had seen in her journey so far, but he knew Aggron would probably be the biggest. "Yet one is so gentle, she wouldn't hurt a fly. C'mon out, Bahamut!" He tossed the ball up into the air and caught it as his Flygon burst out high into the sky to spread her wings.

"Goooon~" she cooed, flying in a circle to enjoy the fresh air. Unlike the rest of Kilik's Pokemon, she had not seen much action at the Team Magma base, so she was feeling fit as a fiddle! She swooped down and landed next to Kilik, straightening a little bit. She was possibly a foot and a half taller, thanks to her long neck. Bahamut turned her head and blinked at the orange haired girl. "Fly~" she stretched her neck forward and brushed her scaly nose against the girl's cheek. A real cutie, this one! Her long tail curled up and brushed against Kilik's back, pushing him a little closer to the girl.

"H-hey!" He planted his feet into the ground and stumbled slightly, regaining his ground and glaring up at his Flygon, his ears turning a little red. "Sorry," he laughed a little, straightening back up. "You may wanna back up a little for this next one, though..." he put his hands on Katie's shoulders and shuffled a few feet back, Bahamut following them while wrapping her tail along the ground to encircle them. "Behave yourself, please." He whispered to the Great Ball as he let it loose.

As per usual with Aggron's arrival, it was signaled with a powerful, earth shaking roar. The beast hit the ground on all fours but slowly stood up like a monster awakening from a deep sleep. A low growl rumbled from his throat as he opened his eyes. Standing at full height, he completely dwarfed every Pokemon close by and easily both of the trainers. Aggron glanced down at noticed a collective group of small Pokemon. "Aaaaggg..." he bared his metal teeth, saliva pouring between them to coat his chin.

"Heeeyeheyeheyhey!" KIlik panicked, jumping over Flygon's tail and placing a hand on Aggron's side. "They're not for lunch! I'm introducing you to them!" He saw Aggron's steely blue eye turn to him and Kilik stared with determination. The way to conquer a beast was to not show fear. Be as intimidating as he was. As Aggron calmed himself, he stomped forward to Cable and put his large hand on the Electric-type's head. "Aggron is giving Cable his respect," Kilik explained as he walked back, "He never had a chance to congratulate him on a job well done back in Hoenn. Aggron felt Cable showed amazing strength and skill, thus earning his respect as a team mate."

Cable wrapped his two tails around Aggron's beefy wrist and smiled up at him. Aggron was, strength wise, Kilik's most powerful Pokemon. The behemoth could move mountains to his whims sometimes! He thanked the beast, who turned away afterward and stomped back to his trainer. The Electivire knew Aggron was not one for large, social gatherings so the beast was easily out of his comfort zone.

"We'll be heading out soon, Aggron. Just wait a bit." He smiled over at Katie and sat down on a larger part of Flygon's tail. She lifted him up a little so that his feet weren't touching the ground. "So, you've met mostly all of my Pokemon. There are a few others, but these six are my best. What do you think?"

It didn't take too long for Mazarin to leave the boat a smoldering pile of ash on the ocean. Sharpedo handled destroying the hull quite well, while Shiftry and Honchkrow took care of the trainer's Pokemon. "Thieves have no place in this world!" Mazarin exclaimed as Shiftry landed a finishing blow and he hopped onto the back of his mighty bird, recalling his other two Pokemon. "Next time, know your competition! Laaater, loooosers!" Maz cackled as he shot off like a bullet towards Sootopolis.

He held tightly to Honchkrow's feathers, his face rippling in the high winds. "Sloowhowhowhowdoooown!" he growled, holding on with all his might. The bird skid to half speed and Mazarin crawled back into a comfortable position, checking his GPS. "Okay, we're not too far now! We've gotta land on the rim of the volcano and we'll climb down. We can't let Team Rocket take notice of us. Sneaky snakes!"
