Davey had fallen to the floor after the spikes hit him. He wasn't out just yet, but to his disgust (and slight fear) he needed a few minutes before he could get back on his feet. Panting hard, he instead went about pulling the spikes from his flesh one by one. Bitten-off sounds escaped his lips, the needles being just as painful coming out as they had been going in. Eventually there was a pile of blood-splattered needles on the floor of the tent. No one had attacked while he was down, a fact he was grateful for. Looking up, Davey found Gale standing over him. Maybe that was why he'd been left alone? Whether it was true or not, Davey managed a proper smile for the other British Hunter. "I'm good," Davey lied. He might not be passing out yet, but surely it wouldn't be much longer. Bugger letting the others know that, though - they all had enough worries without wasting time on someone who'd been running on a third of his strength since coming back from the haunted house. Better that everyone focused on taking out the enemy. Even Davey might be able to get off one more attack before he was taken out. (A pissed-off Caelius was a very effective distraction.) Following Gale's gesture, Davey eyed the monstrous red creature. It looked big, angry and very dangerous. A good next target for them. "Gimme a minute and I'll help you out with him." "HEY, YOU! HOW COME YOU ONLY HAVE ONE ARM?" someone screamed from across the tent. Davey snarled and turned, trying to pin down who was playing 'pick on the cripple' today. "Is it hard to balance? Can you do a handstand? Do you hit people cos' you're mad? Wanna fight about it?" He'd be more than happy to hit her for making him mad. He still couldn't see who it was, though, which made it harder for him to carry that out. The fact that he was barely back on his feet didn't help. At full strength, he would have been pushing others aside to get to her. But about to fall back down, even Davey's rage-filled brain could see that it was better to stay where he was, with Gale, Before, Bix and Jeremy . Strength in numbers and all that. ... If he lasted for longer than just one more attack, he wasn't above going after her next, though.

Freya summoned as much saliva in her mouth as possible when his hands slid around her neck, and she was ready to spit directly in his face, until she received his ultimatum.
Save Lattice, just by being good. A good, pretty little bird. That's what he wanted.

 That's what all men wanted.

Freya's body slackened in his grasp, and she took a moment to gather herself, pushing away the bile before it rose out of sheer disgust from her stomach. Her eyes closed for that moment, and when they opened again, the fire was gone. There was nothing left but those big, round, puppy dog eyes.

She found the floor with her feet, enough to give her the chance to stand on her own. When she stood, she looked up at him, summoning every ounce of charm she could muster. As it turned out, that was a lot. She leaned in just an inch, and gave him her cutest pout.

 "I promise." She whispered gently.

She was going to throw up so many times when this was all over.

 ....Wat is even--

The bird-girl suddenly went limp, and then looked up at him with the most convincing blue eyes he had ever seen. And that pout? Holy s**t! Jeremy wasn't quite sure what happened, but he was pretty sure that it had something to do with his ultimatum.

He wasn't sure he liked this turn of events; it was a real pity she was a freak of nature.

Visibly shaking his head, Jeremy released the girl's neck, waving his hand dismissively. s**t, he had monsters fake-hitting on him now. Ariane often did the same. He just couldn't get a break, could he?! "Good." He snorted, trying to shake off the weight of that rather charming stare. "Sit down and shut up, and make sure your friend doesn't move from that spot, or try anything funny." As promised he stood where he was, still loosely holding Elsie's chains just in case.

Suddenly, all the fun he'd been having was for nothing.

Freya dropped to the ground roughly, turning just slightly so she could still keep an eye on Jeremy, while her arms wrapped around Lattice and pulled her into her embrace. This time, however, she managed to do so without getting pinned. Her look remained contrite, until she turned her head just enough to cover her expression from the hunter, and looked up at Lattice.
Those tender, puppy dog eyes melted away to give her a dark, fierce look and a toothy grin.

 Men were so easy.

Leon merely watched with mild fascination as the lower half of the ghoul decided to protect the upper part. Considering it mustn't have been very long since she found it, or it found her or whatever the case may be. But her interesting form would make for great study with the Life squad.
"How fascinating, hey foot fetish, be careful before you end up in pieces." the boxer stated with a condescending snarl and gave the chainsaw a light rev. it was still surprising how quiet Nidhogg was being about the whole situation.

But he almost whistled at the incoming spiderghoul and the act of bravado she managed to pull out in a instant. It was full of s**t and he knew it, by the way she held herself up. It didn't stop him from testing out the waters with her as he took a heavy step forwards. "Oh yeah, is that so, how about if I refuse huh?" he growled back and took another step towards her, daring her to take a shot at him. "Whats wrong, lost the venom in your fangs already?" he called out, egging her on. She had balls, probably not as big as his and Ariane's, but she had them, he'd give respect for that.

Now if only she was really human, that might have been interesting.

Lattice listened and couldn't help but feel horrified at the 'deal' that transpired despite the fact that it seemed like the 'deal' was something the Hunter wasn't all that into. Lattice let Freya pull her closer as her brow knitted behind her mask as she looked toward Freya.
She sincerely hoped this wasn't going to go sour.

The Engraver quietly reached up and pet at the Valkyrie's cheek lightly with her palm. It was showing that Lattice trusted what the Valkyrie was doing whatever she was planning, it was an act that wordlessly cautioned 'be careful, don't take risks on my account'. Lattice had already shown too much weakness this day and she wasn't going to show anymore of it through words.

The insult of foot fetish went over her head. Literally. What? Legs liked the prospect of being someone's object of affection.
Tess didn't need to be whole to understand her lower half's preferences. "Is that what you're into?" the winged ghoul weakly coughed at the Hunter as she rested against Lizzy. Beneath her breath, she murmured to her friend, "Worse comes to worse, d-drop me and get out, okay?" Except despite her brave words she clung harder to the spider demoness.

Legs did not know the meaning of restraint. Or fear. Well, apart from falling down into a ******** well again. Or falling down somewhere no one knows and she has no way to vocally communicate. And right now? After her upper half's taunt, she turned round to... defiantly thrust her behind at him, giving a little kick for good measure, the mini-skirt fluttering from the movement as if to suggest: Come and get it, big boy~

Willow suddenly was getting assaulted by some guy yelling at her. The tiger girl looked like a deer in the headlights as she stood there for a second. It wasn't until she actually got hurt she realized that this, was not a time for standing around and doing nothing. Oh Jack that hurt.
"Hey... what's your problem?" She hissed trying to move away from the hunter that'd just hit her. Attempting to get her butt away from him, however obviously she couldn't just leave everyone here... She frowned. Oh she wasn't use to fighting, this was going to be a long field trip.... Of course the tiger was hurt and she was moving slower because of it. That stupid... whatever he was. Her ears twitched as she tried to find a safe place to duck for now.

That was until she heard Cady. The tigress ghoul did an about face and moved back towards her team member. "Do you want to be disemboweled?" She asked looking back at these... whatever they were. She saw the one with one arm and couldn't help but think that was who Cady was teasing. "Stop playing games and be serious."

She paused looking at Freya that was the girl that had been dancing with Cady earlier in the hub. "Look." She hissed pointing at Freya, "You'll end up like her if you're not careful. We have to figure out how to get out of this.... Alive" Her voice was hushed as she spoke to Cady but she was hoping to be stern about it.

You expect me to just watch you let our captives go free like that!?" The blonde Hunter seemed incredulous at her apparent confusion but now he had a new reason to make her go down like a ton of bricks - because his superior told him to do so.
The young man's eyes flicked over as a dual-toned looking girl suddenly attacked Caelius and he paused a moment. Granted others had also attacked his superior but that one seemed to have caught his eye due to her odd coloration.

Either he could continue to cover this target or move on to the one directing his superior. So many threats so little time. The young man simply waited for his next opening.

((Entering from the Gauntlet~))Moure entered the tent just in time to see the cages being unlocked by one of the other students from school. He gave an inner sigh of relief, seeing that Edel and Lizzy, and those other two ghouls that were with them, were still alive. Before he could run over to check on the Ice ghoul further though, someone else arrived.
Moure faintly remembered glimpsing someone like this figure from the battlefield. His eyes widened as he realized the being was the one who had unleashed that attack that had conflicted with the Soul Harvester's, meaning that this figure had to be powerful. At his words, Moure's skin prickled, feeling as if the patchwork was listening to Cphira again, as if his Doctor was here talking about some minipet she was going to cut apart later. Only, they were like the minipets in this case, and this powerful false-reaper was like Cphira.

There was no way they could allow themselves to be captured, especially after all that the Soul Harvester had done for them to get this far. Moure braced himself, quickly looking around for something to throw at the fake-reaper. He picked up something that was resting on the floor by his foot now, knocked their by the enemy's entrance. It was thick, probably a piece of metal from a nearby desk, but it was all Moure had at his disposal right now. Quickly, the Runner hefted the bar and threw it at the fake-reaper. For once, his attack actually landed. Go figure.

Moure then looked around, trying to find Edel even through the chaos that had erupted from the battling figures, both friends and foes alike. He dove into the fray, dodging around fighting groups and surveying around for the Ice Demoness. Finally he spotted her. "Edel!" He called, trying to weave his way over to the ghoul.
Quote: Target: Mini Boss.Damage: 3 damage.
 HP: 30/30
Fear: Burnout - ((Swift Strike)) Moure backs up, then runs at high speed toward his enemy. He can usually land several hits at the speed he's moving, although there's a chance that he'll go too fast and will not be able to control his direction (thus running into something other than his enemy, like a wall or tree).

THE GAUNTLET: FINAL ROUND The first thing students would notice, as they slowly blinked back into awareness, was that everything was pure white. In fact, they were floating in a pure white void, unable to see or feel. It felt right. It felt peaceful, as if all thoughts had been drawn into a net far, far away.
"They are not my responsibility, I will have nothing do to with any of this." Though this voice was quite young, it carried itself with contempt. "You already set in motion your own fate... and theirs."

"You owe me." This voice, the chime that rang in their minds, was unmistakeably the Soul Harvester's. "Just this once, and never again. I promise."

"So you are aware that you cannot avoid the result." A flicker of something, the one replying, and then an image - was it a ghost? - of a cloaked figure in purple.

 "Yes, I am prepared."

A pause. And then the strangest sound, the like the ticking of thousands of clocks at once. "All right, just this once. Mind you, they did all the work."

Before anyone could digest the strange conversation, everything lurched forward, the fear, the fighting, hiding, running all suddenly crystal clear. It was painful, it was agonizing, and, as the students literally slammed into reality once again, the familiar soggy wet grass of the backyard encompassing them, they also saw Her.

The Soul Harvester. Glowing brighter by the second like a miniature sun, until she encompassed everything in a brilliant blue-

 - "******** SOUL HARVESTER." There was nothing level or calm about the outburst as the Death Reaper lunged with their scythe, the blade gouging deep into several unsuspecting prisoner's, ripping right through the very fabric of their Fear-

 - 'Now go.'

 - It was too late as all the students simply vanished.

As the Hunters paused to wonder what the hell exactly happened, Caelius, without a single word, simply stormed out of the tent.

GAUNTLET CONCLUSION RULES:DISPOSABLE STUDENTS:- Being trapped so long in the cages, even with the sudden rescue, has visibly weakened you. Your body was not able to take the attack as the last remaining bits of your Fear simply fade away. (Tl;dr: YOU ARE DEAD, please pm Zoomutt with what to do next!) - Please DO rp reactions before death though! HALLOWEEN STUDENTS IN THE BATTLEFIELD: - YOU ARE NOW HERE . RP ACCORDINGLY. Please go back to your rooms/continue your rooms once you have reached the cooldown time!HUNTERS STUDENTS IN THE BATTLEFIELD: - It was a long fight, but your attackers are gone , for better or worse. Feel free to rp out reactions, etc etc, accordingly, but head back to THE MAIN BACKYARD THREAD FOR HUNTERS. - IF YOU ARE UNCONSCIOUS YOU ARE NOW being "treated" OUTSIDE IN THE MAIN BACKYARD , and can awaken to consciousness at any time... or have someone kick you to consciousness. |

Lois found herself floating in in pure white, and it was quite startling. Never before had she seen so much light, but for some reason it didn't bother her. In fact, for the first time in a long time she felt relaxed. Almost at peace. While floating there she was temporarily away from the agony she had felt in reality, and while words were ringing in her mind she felt oddly disconnected, as if she couldn't quite focus on everything at once.
And then she slammed back into reality. Her body, weak as it was, was forced onto the ground, and this time she knew she had no energy to pull herself back up. Brilliant bright blue light washed over her, and the corners of her mouth tugged up into a small smile. Everything would be fine. She was free, and she had fought back. Even as the Death Reaper approach, and as his scythe tore through her Fear, ripping apart the last fragment of her existence one lingering thought remained. Isabella can be proud.

The battle was quickly over, and Marcus felt a bit cheated out. He'd wanted to kill them in a way. Better to do it now then let them run around in his mind. He wasn't thinking about tests, just about getting rid of the annoyances as he saw them. His teammates did well, and it wasn't until he noticed just what was going on that Marcus got to feel just what they were up against.
Whatever that light was, it wasn't on their side, as just as soon as it started, it was- over?

Whatever it was Marcus saw the death hunter intructor storm out like a kid who had Christmas canceled. "Uh-"

Marcus looked to his team mates. "What.. just happened?" Another glace to the way Caelius had gone. Finger pointed at the door. "Should we follow?"

			             The white was blinding.
Blinding, but not painful; not like the other time. Gale felt as though he were standing in a blizzard - or maybe he was sitting, or perhaps lying down; it was quite difficult to tell, after all.

And then the voices. He closed his eyes, shaking his head just the slightest, as if to knock the sounds from his mind.

 "You owe me."

What did that even mean? Jinhai -

The noise slammed back into Gale's head with the force of a train. He crushed his hands in his hair, letting out an agonized scream, feeling something wet against his cheek.

 JINHAI!

The rifle's voice was strangely weak, distorted.

 << Jack...dammit... >>

Gale opened his eyes - and there she was - the Soul Harvester, whatever that was. Too bright to look at properly, too powerful, and then -

The creatures vanished. All of them, within a split second. It was like he had blinked, and missed the moment in its happening.

What he had not missed, however, was their instructor stalking angrily from the tent.

Slowly, painfully, Gale pushed himself to his feet, wincing slightly. He staggered a bit unsteadily, the sniper rifle in his hand flashing white briefly before it dissipated into nothing more than a silver ring on his left index finger, the golden runes glowing slightly.

He did not know what had just happened, but there was no use in just sitting around. Bending over, Gale gripped Davey's upper arm.

"Come on," he said gruffly, looking around for Bix and the rest of his teammates. "Let's go."

Entering the tent, Dr. H surveyed the damage, and quickly went to work trying to salvage equipment, issuing only a few soft orders to several extremely hesitant lab techs. After a few minutes, he turned to the trainees, "Get back to what you were about. Nothing has changed. Brant...go ahead. I won't be needing your assistance until this is sorted."
