"Earthmother just must want to find the best match. I hold to the rituals, it's how the faun live and have lived for a very long time."

Mo nodded and bowed his head to the comment, completely understanding that following the laws and rituals of the fauns. "I do not disagree with you, Sir. I was merely expressing my thoughts..." He chuckled a bit as Rais seemed to return his silent attention back towards Belvah.

Mo's attention was then directed towards the female fauns that were beginning to return from their tasks. One female returned with a bucket. She seemed rather proud of herself - as she should be. The other seemed worried about the small feathered bundle she comforted in her clasped hands, a crown of roses dangling from her arm.

Well.. Three of them seemed successful so far. Mo stepped back and allowed Rais to deal with the returning females while his eyes drifted out amongst the remaining crowd. Where are the other two? There were five, wasn't there?

His attention was quickly diverted by the Earthmother's return. She seemed to quickly settle the fuss from one of the returning competitors and continue by explaining the next round. Mo wasn't familiar with the rituals of the fauns since he had lived in seclusion up until they were called, so he idly wondered just how many parts there were to this bride search. He quickly assumed that the trials would continue until only one was left successfully standing.

Mo took a deep breath then and leaned up against something that resembled a pillar, his eyes continuing to scan the remaining faun in the area.

Hurt, shame, embarassment... those were just the tip of the iceberge of the emotions Amadorine was feeling at the moment. Not to mention a very strong urge to just bolt.

When Earthmother had first approached her in her frustrations and rage she had begun trembling again, hard enough that she was sure the ground was vibrating under her. She needed help for this bird, didn't they see? She didn't have the knowledge to take care of it herself, so make sure the broken limb was set right and to care for the bird while it was recovering. So why? Why wasn't anyone helping her? Tears stung at her eyes, as the Earthmother addressed her, and she gritted her teeth, unable to even look at the other Fauness as the words hit her. She said nothing, but fought back the urge to run despite the growing embarassment she was feeling that was adding to her anger like fuel to the fire.

And then the Earthmother took the bird from her and tossed it in the air.

With a gasp of surprise and mild thoughts of confusion, Amadorine instantly reacted in getting ready to catch the poor, flightless bird. Her eyes snapped to strong focus on the bird and she kept her arms and legs ready to make sure that it didn't hit the ground; it didn't matter what they thought; she cared dammit. But the bird didn't come down... in fact, the bird wasn't even a bird considering it transformed before her eyes into an Avalon.

And with that, her frustrations finally came to a peak and she did the one thing that she knew wouldn't be distructive; she started to cry. They were silent tears, thankfully, but they still ran down her cheaks as she was informed she failed, and she did her best to hide her face from the crowds around her. As if it weren't bad enough she was doing this in front of the two high figure heads AND the other two competitors; there was a crowd of fauns there too. Her legs began to move on their own as she took a few steps back from the other two faunesses, and she'd been shamefully close to bolting as fast as she could away from this whole mess when the Earthmother's voice addressed her again.

'Next Task!?' She thought to herself, both in shock and dispair. Why did they want to have her continue on? Obviously, she'd failed the point of the last test so why was she still moving on? Her mind was full of confusion as the parchment was pressed into her hands, and she knew she wasn't ready to continue; not yet. Slipping away from everyone, she burried herself in a nitch and waited until her tears subsided and she could think clearly once again.

By the time she walked into the room that Earthmother had instructed for them, her eyes were puffy and rimmed red, but she had regained her temper. Still unable to keep a lasting eye contact with Earthmother, she bowed her head and followed the instructions of lighting the green candle and then the insence. Before long, her mind departed from the concious world and she fell into the trance.

The world was a haze around her; there were trees and rocks and ground, but everything had a soft misty feel to it. Looking around, Amadorine noticed that everything around her looked ancient. Most of the tree trunks and rocks had thick layers of moss growing on them, and the air hung heavy and damp all around her. Stepping carefully through the spoungy undergrowth, Amadorine took in her surroundings as she began to explore the forest.

There was supposed to be a beast somewhere here, that's what the Earthmother had said. However, it seemed like there was no one there. no one but herself. Was that what she was supposed to be encountering? Horrible loneliness?

A snapping of a branch caused her to whirl around, body tensed. Her eyes scanned the area.

Nothing.

Letting out the breath she didn't know she'd been holding until then, she turned back to the clearing. And nearly died from a heart attack. Not even a yard away from her was a massive wolf, easily four times her size. instead of the gorgious silky coat and the beautiful grace that she normally thought of when reffering to them, this particular monster had a dark, matted coat of fur (matted with what she didn't want to think of) and though it had grace to it's step as it walked closer, she felt death and darkness press against her, choking her until she gasped for a breath and stepped back. That one simple movement brought the terror in front of her to full attention, and glowing red eyes opened up all over the body, their hungry orbs focusing on her.

RUN yelled a voice that was nowhere and everywhere all at once, it's tone urgent. Amadorine didn't need to be told twice, and she bolted as fast as her legs would take her. The forest was thick all around her, branches smacking her in the face and roots attempting to trip her. Rocks slid out in the loose dirt and the moisture in the air clung to her fur and brought the sweat into her eyes. And yet, despite how thick the woods was, she could feel the presence of that beast growing stronger behind her; catching her.

Her path was blocked as the monster sailed over her and landed right in front of her, causing her to get close enought to smell the rancide oder of decay that radiated off of him. Her legs flailing in order to stop her forward momentum, she turned 180 degrees and sprinted off again. From the corner of her eyes, she found a small crevice in the roots of a large tree, and she wriggled herself into it to find a den of some sort. Breathing heavily, shaking from the adrenalin rush and from the pure fear that had taken over her. Closing her eyes, she curle dinto a ball and squeeked with a large mass hit the tree above her. Scratching and clawing could be heard as whatever it was tried to make its way into her hidy hole. Sobbing uncontrolably, she rocked herself a little, thinking back to that halloween so long ago where she'd made her father take her to that party... the party where her Aunt Pastela as well as several other Pae had been turned into werewolves. This time? This was nearly as terrifying to her now as the party had been back then when they'd been chased.

After a time, Amadorine looked up, realizing that the surrounding area had become quiet. It took her a few more minutes to gather her strength and courage before she completely uncurled herself and scootched closer to the opening that she'd come in through. Taking a few deep breaths, she peeked her head out, only to see that the place was empty again. Scrambling, she climbed back out of her saftey den, glancing around for something, anything that she could use to protect herself. A vine hung off a near by tree and she grabed it, yanking hard so that the entire length fell to the ground. Working quickly, she knotted it a few times, then went ridged as she felt the monster's pressence from behind her.

"Oh god oh god oh god...." She said quietly under her breath, the spun around to face the beast, her hand gripping the vine with white knuckles. The beast lunged and, screaming at the top of her lungs, Amadorine charged at it sure that she was about to piss herself. Jumping out of it's grasp at the last moment she threw the vine at it's face and the foliage wrapped itself around it's muzzle a few times. Screaming once more, she sprinted at it, jumping onto it's back and grabing ahold of fur and body parts, clinging to it for dear life. The wolf-beast did it's best to try to get to the crazed faun clinging to it's back, but each time it failed, Amadorine felt herself grow stronger. She could do this, she was conquering her fear. Reaching around, she grabbed the ends of the vines and pulled, tieing his muzle shut so she could reach around and hold to it's neck. She pressed against the sides of the neck, depriving blood from it's brain until finally the beast colapsed and she let go quickly. Without a second thought, she placed her hand by his nose and ear on it's chest, listening to make sure that the creature was still alive, before tieing it's paws up as well with the same vine.

Caleigh blinked, widening her eyes at the fire gem. "So pretty," she mumbled, reaching out to touch it, but when the Earth-mother had started talking, the spotted hyena took a jump back remaining quiet. When someone had congratulated her, the female looked to her side to find her friend Belvah. She made it!

"Belvah!!!" the female squealed, moving over to give her friend a hug. "Mm, still have pretty hair," she said, beaming. When the earthmother gave them the parchments, she raised her eyebrow. "Next quest?" she said puzzled before pulling it open to read. "Oh..."

[ doing the same as Umi, will post the next soon ]

Belvah unrolled the scroll, reading the instructions. Off the top of the tree with her. No rest for the lovestruck right? She sighed, trying not to yawn. Gently she reached up to touch her hair, blushing as she looked around for Rais. He was busy again.. Of course, she'd never get two seconds to say more than hi to the man.

Rolling her silvery eyes, she smiled to herself and headed up to the fifth level, to the little nook in the northernmost section. A decent journey for a weary faun. She'd been all over the isle looking for Queen Tariel, she'd met a new friend, a possible enemy.. She might have even met the guy she would be able to spend the rest of her life with. It'd been a long day so far, and it promised to be a very very long day if things kept up this way.

When she arrived, there was either no one else in the room, or she just wasn't looking. Belvah only had eyes for Earthmother. Either way, she didn't care too much, this was an important part of the ceremony. The silvery gray female did not want to mess this part up.

she nodded, taking the seat offered to her in the same position of Earthmother. If she stood her too long like this, not only would her feet fall asleep, she would too. Inhale the vapors? That was easy enough.. Belvah lit her incense, following instructions.

soon her eyelids started drooping, getting heavier and heavier. Must have been sitting too long. No wait, this was different, she could hear her breath getting deeper and taking longer between each one.. But she was still conscious? That's weird, she couldn't stand up or move her body..

Something was different, it felt like she was in a dream, but she could still see everything around her. She gasped, realizing she wasn't in the tree. Or was she? Everything around her was different. It wasn't something she wanted to find out.

Her hooves clicked against the floor, she'd finally freed herself from the floor that had rooted her into place. She gasped, realizing that everything around her was utterly gorgeous. But it wasn't right. Something was off. But there was something flashing before her eyes, yet not. It was.. Just out of the corner of her eye. Something was telling her to move. She had to get out of this room and quick.

The female moved, getting out of there. Whatever it was that told her to get out of the room, it seemed to be following her. She didn't like it at all. As she was running, something caught her hair, snagging it. She was yanked back. with a groan of pain, she looked up. Flat on her back.

It was there, standing over her. What was it? That had to be herself. But it couldn't have been. She was right here. But there she was, silvery gray, spots and off white hair. Almost her twin. Why almost? what was off? It was her eyes.. With a gasp, Belvah jerked to her feet. Those eyes were those of a murderer. Not just any murderer, a cold blooded heartless woman stood before her. Scars from battles past, even a stance that said she no longer cared about anyone and wanted nothing more than blood and carnage.

Who would ever want such a life? She tried to back up, to get away from this scary woman. Her heart raced, eyes wide and brow wet with the cold sweat that had broken out over her entire body. The silvery gray female, the kind one, shuddered, staring into the eyes of herself. The eyes of someone who had lied, cheated, and stolen everything she could get her hands on and more. Belvah couldn't move. She couldn't do anything. Why was she facing something this horrible? No one ever deserved to have their life taken from them, or things stolen.

The thing cracked a sadistic smile, glaring right at the kind Belvah. She was to die right here, right in this clearing. She lifted a hand, the same hand Belvah had carefully manicured was now sharpened into claws. Sharp points at the tip of every finger. Sharp enough to slice through the skin of someone's throat if she needed to.If nothing else she could puncture a vein and drain your precious life out slowly.

The kind and caring Belvah screamed, tears staining her gorgeous face. She couldn't believe something this horrible could exist. The scream turned into a whimper, seeing the claws. Is this what would have happened if she followed her mother's lead? She couldn't take it. She started to run. It was the worst nightmare she could imagine. But this nightmare had to end right? All of them had to end..

Just like her.. She gasped, eyes wide. She'd ended something like this before hadn't she? With her mother. She'd left, and never returned. Never even had a second thought about leaving the woman. could she tell off herself like she did that vile woman that spawned her? She didn't take much time to realize that, yes she could indeed tell this wretched creature off.

The kind silvery female turned on the tip of her hoof, glaring at the her that wasn't her. The growl that came from her throat was almost beastly. She didn't want this woman to be the truth.

The murderer's smile turned into a smirk. Seemed as though Belvah wanted to take her over herself? Or did she want to conquer this hardened version of herself? Honestly the creature didn't care, she just wanted more blood spilt. With that same thought, she lunged forward, aiming for the other's throat.

"You will back off!" Belvah was screaming, nearly the top of her lungs. "I will never become you! You have nothing on me!" It was then that she noticed the claws aimed for her throat. She managed to move away barely injured. A small trickle of blood was running down her neck. The injury seemed to add fuel to her rage. "You are nothing more than a cold blooded murderer and I've got nothing to do with you! You cannot have my heart!"

This seemed to work. The creature was leaving, or at least backing off. She had told it off, and she'd even proved to herself that she was her own being. Free to do whatever she wished, to be whatever she wanted. It was an amazing feeling. So much so, she was feeling light hearted and entirely uplifted.

Wait, was this feeling.. It was. She was waking up. With a sigh of happiness, her eyes flicked open, returning her to the world of the real, the living. There was a smile on her face, proud of herself for getting rid of her mother. or was it herself? She couldn't bring herself to distinguish the two right now. She shook her head, pressing a hand to her head and sitting back. Belvah rubbed her eyes, sitting back. She was ready to get the rest of this task underway..

Very slowly Amadorine's eyes fluttered open, then she jerked to a sitting position, eyes wide for a moment before finally gathering her bearings. She was back in the tree, in her body.... Her body felt like it was made of lead, and she yawned before tilting off to the side against the nearest solid figure, closing her eyes before resting herself against Belvah, completely oblivious to who she was leaned against.

Her eyes were half closed, her mind sluggishly moving through all that had happened today. She certainly felt as if she could rest for a full day or two, and she fought the exhaustion that plagued her.

Belvah blinked, or at least attempted to. Someone was leaning against her.. weird.. She turned her head to the side, looking to see who it was.. Amadorine? Didn't that female dislike her? The silvery gray female gave a mental shrug, not caring so much. They were all tired, and it made sense that they would just need something to lean on to keep upright.

She was fighting her own eyelids right now, looking tiredly at Earthmother. "What now?" Belvah asked, reaching up to rub an eye.

Caleigh gave a nod before she proceeded up to the fifth floor. She have not been in this area for so long due to her traveling. The spotted hyena had never been in the same place twice in all her life; well, that was a lie, maybe twice or thrice by the same river and such, but never the exact same spot. Even with the Great Tree, she haven't been across the bridge in some time, but knew of its' existence. What is waiting for her here?

This particular female was not looking forward to it. It was not something she wanted to do, but with patience, she decided to go on. After all, she got the Matron position but was terribly afraid of losing it if she backed out of the wife contest here. She never wanted to be married, nor have kids of her own. In aspect, Caleigh was and still is a free spirit, loving to gather up apples and eat them and then continue traveling to explore of new things.

While thinking, her feet helped her traveled up the flight of stairs to the fifth floor in where she entered and took a look around. It was beautiful and so clean, though in the middle there was a circle of pillows and funny-looking sticks near a fire. When the Earth-mother instructed to her what to do, she gave a shaking nod and proceeded to pick up the funny-looking stick and lit it before blowing it out.

The smell that gave off from it make her dizzy and oh-so-tired, she dropped the stick and moved to snuggle up on the pillows. Usually, she snuggled up in the trees where nobody can get her on the ground. She hated being sneaked upon and shocked awake, so sleeping above ground seemed to her to be the only option.

She was everywhere and nowhere deep in the forests of her mind. There was forests of apples around her. “Is dream?” she asked, looking around giving a blink. “Much too real to be dream,” the spotted hyena muses. “Apples!” she squealed, moving to jump up to grab one. The perfectly-looking apple was ready to be eaten, her mouth chomped into it. “Mm!” Caleigh munched on it.

However, out of nowhere, someone threw an apple at her head. “OW!” she yelled, frowning as she looked around. “That is not funny!” she yelled once again, peering around the tree. “Hello?!”

Another apple came, missing her by an inch. The spotted hyena blinked, seeing the apple smashed against the tree like a crunchy applesauce. “Eww,” she muttered. Not so soon after that, a few more apples was pelted her way, one hitting her leg and the other just barely missing her head. “THAT'S IT!” she yelled.

And so, the pae'il made a run for it, over the gnarly-looking roots of the trees, the crunchy leaves upon the ground, the green canopies above providing shade. Though what she couldn't figure out was what or who was throwing those apples at her!

“This not funny!” Caleigh yelled. A mocking laughter came out of nowhere before a spotted hyena that looked like her was balancing from a tree branch not up high. The mocking hyena let out a shrieking laughter, then threw a good apple at Caleigh.

Caleigh just blinked. It looked like her! But it couldn't possibly be her! She was here, and that was... oh boy, was she getting confused at this.

“One, two, I see a ugly you. Three, four, I getting you. Five, six, you betta run. Seven, eight, It getting late. Nine, ten, Here an apple again!” the mocking hyena pae'il shrieked, giggling manically, throwing an apple. This time, it had hit Caleigh in the shoulder.

Caleigh narrowed her eyes at the interloper. “I'll get you!” she yelled, moving to the tree and proceeded to climb up it rather fast. She was on a mission. “You mean, you hit me with apples. I hurt!” she yelled, getting just a wicked laugh in return. The spotted hyena that is Caleigh frowned intensely as she carefully moved from branch to branch, until she got to the same branch that the interloper was on.

The interloper grinned. “Hi!” she shrieked, moving to jump and down on the branch, making Caleigh sway.

“Stop that!” Caleigh frowned, holding onto the tree. “Stop it, I say!”

“Stop that! Stop it, I say!” the interloper shrieked, giggling all the while as she kept bouncing on the branch, making it quake and shake.

“Please, stop!” Caleigh shouted, whimpering. She didn't want to fall, but she wanted to make the interloper shut up. So in thus, she remembered the High Matron's advice and proceeded to move out on the branch, hugging the one above her. “Stop-p-p!”

The interloper shrieked, bouncing, bouncing until it slipped. “EEE!” she shrieked, falling off and held onto the branch. Below her was nothing but air and the ground far away.

“No, no!” Caleigh yelped, moving fast over to the interloper. “Grab hand!” she demanded, holding it out while she was hugging the branch she was crawling on now. “Please!”

“No, you like me, you mean. You fall!” the interloper shouted, her eyes glaring with hatred and wickedness.

Caleigh yelped, grabbing onto the interloper's arm. “No, I not like you. I no throw apples at people!” she yelled, the interloper's grip slipping. Apparently the branch was breaking. “No, no, come up. Please!”

“No!” the interloper shrieked, giggling manically. “You come with me. You like me!”

The spotted hyena that is Caleigh frowned. “I never like you. I have friend!” she shrieked. “Never like you!”

The interloper blinked and seem to disappear. However for Caleigh, the branch had broken and sent her falling. “AHH!” she shrieked, her body seeming to fall through air.

In reality, she woke up screaming, holding her pillow. She then took a deep gulp of air and looked around. “I not falling?” she asked, her eyes widened. “Nightmare,” the female said, falling onto her back, giving a grateful sigh.

The spotted hyena snuggled onto pillow before she looked up, spotted Belvah nearby. "Belvah, Belvah!" she shrieked, moving to tackle the opposite young lady and hugged. "You ok!"

Belvah grunted a bit, patting Callie. Apparently Belvah was a sleeping bag for the other girls.. "I'm fine I'm fine.. How are you Callie?" She asked, trying not to sound too exhausted. She was also trying not to disturb Amadorine too much. They were all tired right now, and there was nothing more she could do right now.. Just wait for the next set of instructions.

Caleigh sighed happily, giving a pat to Belvah's hair. "I fine, I was falling through air!" she exclaimed, giving a nod. "I had a yummy apple too. It was really yummy, so juicy," the female said, giving a sigh. "I'm hungry for apple now."

She stifled a yawn, hand over her mouth. "Mmm.. I was in a clearing.. I can't remember it well, but I told off someone that looked exactly like me.. She was trying to kill me.." Belvah couldn't help but yawn this time.. It was then that she remembered her neck had been cut.. Eyes wide, her free hand shot to her neck, looking, feeling or anything that might possibly be related to a cut or even a scratch.

Nothing. She let out a quiet sigh of relief. Oh how much panic. She didn't want to finish this while injured. It wouldn't have been fun at all.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 24, 2011 8:18 pm

Caleigh blinked. "Glad you are ok," she firmly nodded. "Your hair messed up," she giggled, beaming as she turned around to find the Earthmother standing there. "Um, hi. Do we get to eat?" she questioned, raising her eyebrow.

Belvah shrugged a bit, "Not concerned about my hair right now." She blushed, looking back at Earthmother. It was time for at least something. She needed rest or a drink and a bite of food to keep going. It was like two or three days had passed since this one day began..

Earthmother remained calm and watched over the three young fauness. She had a gourd filled with fresh water sitting beside her, and as each fauness came out of her trance, she was filling a wooden goblet for each one.

She giggled seeing the girls happy to see each other upon waking.

"I hope you learned something important by facing your adversaries and fears. The fact that you all came to so quickly shows that you were successful."

Raising to her hooves, Earthmother picked up the gourd and slung it over her shoulder. "Now, when you are ready, we need to head back to the mural from the first Trial. I'm going to have you each sit before our new Seer, Vanya. She's still very tired from her ritual, but she should have just enough strength and power to fulfill the final task for you ladies."

Heading out, she gave a small bow to the fauns and headed back to the meeting spot.

Earthmother waited outside of the mural for each of the three to join her, and when all three are present, she opens the door and escorts each one into the small, sacred space. She holds her finger to her lips to let them know to be quiet as they enter.

The room is filled with light, because of the presence of Takis and Vanya, so there is no gradual reveal. In the small room, the girls will find a sapling that is about the same height as them, growing in the middle of a shallow pool of what looks like crystal clear water. The leaves of the sapling are dripping with dew, and it is soon clear that the pool is collecting the dew.

"This is the heart of Laisidhiel, the real Earth Element. That is the Nectar of Life dripping from her leaves. Ordinarily, only Rais, The Seer, and myself are allowed in this hallowed space, but due to the urgency of our current schedule, I brought you to Vanya, because she will continue to need rest after this."

Earthmother knelt before Vanya where she lay. "Vanya, I have brought the three wife candidates here for your first task as Seer. They have already undergone a trance in which they were to face their adversary and fears. You will need to focus on each one of them, help them to understand the vision they seen, and finally, give each one a piece of divine advice."

Vanya can use the velvet bag to divine a "fortune" for each faun. Inside the bag are Vanya's runes, which she will use for all types of simple divination.

Each Faun that is candidate for Rais mate will kneel before Vanya, and wait for her to "read" them.

---------------------

Vanya's fortunes being posted will close the Wife Contest. Staff will now discuss each final entrant begin judging. Rais will announce which of the three -- Amadorine, Belvah, or Caleigh -- will be his future wife.

Belvah gratefully took the wooden goblet from Earthmother, drinking the water down in two large gulps. She was exhausted. She blushed, looking up at the other. "Thank you" The silvery gray female yawned once more, starting to get up since she was the only one seemingly able to not flop all over the other girls.

She held her hands out to the other girls. "C'mon, I'll help you up." She offered a smile. Even if they were still competing for Rais' heart.. Well she wasn't a total b***h.
