The vintner girl watched as the Gold confidently commanded the Brown to follow and fairly quickly, both dragonets walked among them, nosing at girls and inspecting them (or at least the Gold was) closely. That awe was still there and unceasing the longer she watched the Golden queen. And the brown. He was like the little sibling that wanted to be as cool as his older sibling (even though they were the same age). It was amusing and a small giggle escaped watching him follow like a puppy.

When the Gold beauty stopped and regarded one of the girls - she wasn't sure on her name - carefully, that scrutinizing gaze. Narisa thought that surely, that must be the one that would be Hers (as did probably a lot of others). But to her surprise, the Gold merely flared her wings and pushed forward. Literally pushed forward. Knocking down the girl she'd been staring so intently at. A small gasp of worry escaped as she watched her fellow candidate get....stomped upon? A little spitfire indeed. She remembered feeling something like that from the egg when they had the Touching. Thankfully, from what she could tell, the girl was alright. Just maybe slightly wounded pride.

And shock number two. The same girl that had been pushed down by the haughty Gold was reacting. In anger. She was sassing back at the young queen, letting her own haughty attitude out to shine. Narisa sucked in a breath and watched as the young Gold stopped moving forward to turn back towards the shouting girl. The look in the Gold's eyes was dangerous. And when she began to stalk the Candidate girl, it really didn't surprise the auburn haired girl. She could sort of relate. But she had never dealt with arrogant patrons that could kill you. Oh shards! That was going to happen right now, wasn't it?! She wanted to do something. And found herself stuck just watching. What could someone like her have done to help the other girl? Watching on with wide eyes, the sudden appearance of the senior queen and mother of the clutch came as a huge relief. She had this covered. Thank Faranth. That would have put a bad tabu on this hatching.

Still watching the large Queen remain by the angered candidate, shock number three all but ran into her. Almost literally. The warm confident voice that entered her mind made Narisa gasp and stare into the large passionate eyes looking up at her.

Your Cephieth is hungry Narisamine. Feed me. The Gold beauty demanded, waiting a moment before heading off to where she could be fed. She knew Hers would follow.

She could only blink in utter shock. W-Was she hearing things? Or-

Of course not. I would not pick someone crazy. They are not good enough. That voice informed her breezily with a small hint of amusement, hunger, and irritation at having to explain this. I- Forgive me, Golden love! Cephieth. I come. Of course she did. She stumbled once before picking up her confident stride and moving quickly to catch up to her Golden queen who was moving quite quickly off the sands and towards those feeding tables.

Don't shove any more people out of your way, Golden one. It's not ladylike. A snort was her response followed by a gentle nuzzle along her side. Narisamine. I am hungry! Feed me. Laughing, Narisa gave the golden hide a pat and did as she was bidden once they reached the feeding tables.

Allaxon grinned at the browns theatrics. He wished the boy well and hoped that he had enough energy to keep up with his energetic dragon. He had just noticed that Lilias was one of the girls who had impressed a green. And what a lovely green at that. He hoped the mellow creature would dilute her temper a bit. Yes that was the guiding light green she would be very well loved indeed.

He shuffled closer with the other candidates when the Weyrwoman called. He bit his lip as she slung the hatching shovel and it thwacked into the egg and deposited a grumpy black onto the sands. Ooo he was pretty, with enough spice to keep things interesting.

The little black righted himself, swept some of the muck off his face and turned to face the Weyrwoman, snorting and huffing and stomping his legs like a territorial canine. Abigail merely waved her hand and eyed the black as Brakiath rumbled for him to stay away from Hers.

Huffing, the black turned, wings held at odd angles as he stretched them and toddled forward, head low as he swept his gaze out over the Candidates. Perfect. Just perfect. That's what he needed! Perfection. And that silly woman with the strange thing had started it all wrong. Grumbling and irate, the black toddled towards the boys with a swaying, grumbling motion that reminded the Weyrwoman very much of a disgruntled elderly man.

Phew. Part of Nawa was relieved when the black made for the boys. He didn't look terribly happy, and she didn't want to be in his way - and she couldn't be, with his focus on the other group. Of course, fi he was looking for a boy, that also meant he wasn't hers...not that she expected it, at this point. It was easy to hope when there were more than a dozen eggs, but once you were down to one and a dragonet, it got harder to stay positive. Especially when you were hurt.

So the first of the last two eggs was a black? S'koi had often heard that blacks were very playful, but this little fellow certainly didn't appear to follow that notion. At least he was heading off towards the boys, so... perhaps His was among them? He could only hope.

Lena wasn't quite sure if it was energy or merely grumpiness that led the black to snort and huff at the Weyrwoman, but soon enough he was huffing and grumbling his way over to the boys. Lena was a little relieved, personally; she knew it didn't actually matter when dragons chose you, you just went along with it, but she'd felt since the Touching this one wouldn't be interested in her.

Aside from the indignity of the shovel element, Pipith really wasn't interested in the hatching of Atypicals, any more so than he was of most other colors, and he yawned pointedly. Can they hurry up? Since we're awake, I'm hungry.

It's almost over, Pip, Set'al assured him with a roll of his eyes. Besides, mybe the other one is a crimson. You'd like that, wouldn't you?

Later.

Candidates these days.

E'lai was amused that Eltimioth's mood seemed to be taking on that of the black currently on the Sands. I doubt you even remember 'those days', he teased. I'm sure that girl from earlier knows better than to cause any trouble now. For one thing, she'd likely find herself stopped from Standing. At any rate, things were winding down in the Hatching now, and as the black was headed for the boys and there was one egg left yet to receive the touch of the Weyrwoman's shovel, chances for S'ren's candidate friend had dropped dramatically. Hopefully she'd have a strong enough will to Stand again...well, if that was what she wished to do.

Tereth had kept a close eye on the whole of the Hatching from up where all of the other dragons sat in watch. No one could say that the events below had been dull, but it seemed that things would soon be drawing to a close. It was interesting to see how many of the dragonets had strong personalities, and he rather looked forward to seeing this batch grow.

The black would lift his head, orient himself, then continue to toddle forward, weaving through the boys. When he finally recovered from the poor beginning, the black lifted his head and started to walk much more proudly, the keen edge of intelligence shining in his eyes. This was no grumpy dullard - this black was prehaps someone demanding and capable both, unusual for a black, really. And it really only meant more trouble - when the trickster manifested, oooi the Weyr would be in for it!

He whuffed and, tiring, came to a huffing, panting stop in front of Zerivon and looked up at the youth, Feed your Zetath Zerivon. Only you can do it well enough.

With the black Impressed, Abigail gave a nod of approval and padded over to the last egg - the Void Egg. This one had confused her as well as many of the Candidates. What would it hold? Nothing for it but to break this shell too!

With a soft hup, she lined the tool up and whacked the shell once, twice. Thick shell! The second thwack, however, seemed to jar some activity out of the hatchling and a dark foot stuck out, quickly followed by another (tiny) black that sat on the sands with a sharp gaze and all the presence of the gold for the miasma of pessimism around him.

This was a dragon who saw and felt much. When he refused to move, she sighed and prodded him with her shovel, even lifting up his rear in the effort and, puffing from the dead weight, she gave a shrug as she looked up at Brakiath.

The black wasn't moving, though, because he was observing. All of them. Judging them, seeing through them, cutting through the pretense and sunny dispositions to the tender portions of the Candidates that were hidden away. This complex little bundle was certainly aloof! Would he not get up and go find his? Or was this eagle-eyed inspection enough?

Abigail watched with some apprehension, worried.

...another black? Was that normal, to have two Atypicals of the same color in one clutch? And this one was just like he'd been in his egg - depressing. And all he did was sit there! Well, if he could find His from there, that was alright. Odd, though.
PostPosted: Sun Jul 31, 2011 9:12 pm

... Well, this last black certainly seemed... cheery. He just about made Lifth and Opeth both look like little rays of sunshine.

... I would prefer you not to compare me to Opeth. Nor this black.

Just checking to see if you were paying attention~ But seriously, G'brel had to wonder who exactly would be a match for a dragon of that nature. Would it be someone chipper, like Xan was to Opeth, or would it be someone equally as gloomy?

Allaxon smiled when the black impressed, it was quite imposing, even if it was a small hatchling as all atypicals were. He wished Zervion luck with his new dragon and held his breath as the hatching blade ousted the last inhabitant to remain in an egg.
Another Black, the thought boomed loudly in his head, he had thought for sure that this would have been a silver. But Brakiath had surprised him. He wondered not for the first time if a queen knew what each and every one of her hatchlings were and just never told anyone.

Aaaah, the black found His amongst the boys; one Lena didn't know well. There were several of those she'd met at the candidate party standing yet; one egg to go. It certainly looked like another Hatching without a dragon for Lena; in a way she was part relieved. Though then the inevitable choice always surfaced--keep Standing, or try and make her way in the world before she fell too far behind her age peers in the various Crafts, those without the urge or inclination to attempt courting a dragon.

Another black emerged from the last egg; she'd been right on the color then. She'd also been right in that it seemed to be a terrible pessimist, and in a way she sort of hoped he picked a brooding rider. The sight of them together...! Still, he wasn't all gloom. That was intelligence in the black's draconic eyes, surveying each and every candidate remaining. What he was looking for...Lena hadn't the slightest idea.

And with that, Pipith's interest in the Hatching was officially, completely lost. There was nothing interesting about that hatchling at all! He didn't even move. The bronze huffed, now having made himself thoroughly grumpy. When he caught a Queen, there would be a much better hatching.

Of course, Set'al agreed, ever-fond of his dragon but no less amused by him.
