Velkan didn't know how to fight. The only reason he hadn't died yet was simply because animal instinct had taken over while he'd been transformed, now that he was back to his human state the high brought on by the adrenaline seeped out of his body. Velkan was left feeling tired, worn and scared. He'd managed to chomp down on the knight’s nose and there he intended to stay until someone could help him. However the knight clearly had some objections to this which he raised with a fist that Velkan expertly blocked with his face.

The metal encased punch caught Velkan square on the nose, breaking it and whiting out his vision. Stunned, Velkan could do nothing as the knight threw him off and scrambled away for his weapons. The Laguz lay on his back, holding his nose and quietly moaning in pain. Tears rushed to his eyes and blood poured from his nose, his sight blurring with pain and salty water, the catman didn’t even feel someone grab his wrist and drag him along the ground away from the fighting.

The ringing in his ears stopped just in time for him to hear the sage who saved him calling him stupid, normally Velkan was the sort who would retort with a witty remark it seemed though like the knight had knocked the wit clear out of him, so he settled for an undignified gurgle as she helped him to his feet. Holding his nose and moaning inwardly because of the pain Velkan looked over his rescuer it was the woman who’d he’d saved after she’d saved him earlier.

"Guess we're even for earl---" She interrupted him to call him stupid again and his ears drooped sadly, it was true he was just in the way, slightly more useful than a slug. "Alright" He mumbled trudging off to the back, still holding his nose. It didn't take Velkan long to find the cleric, a cute girl with a staff, always the same sort these clerics.

"Uhhh, scuse me" He said, "I think my nose is broken.... dunno if you can help with that..." His stomach growled painfully as if to remind him of something and he blushed, "I uhh, also sort of swallowed a harmonica... dunno if you could help with that either."

Ziaram

User Image

You may call me useless for the fact that I am learning swordsmanship with my left arm

Shouts and cheers from behind the group caught Ziaram's attention. It seemed the prisoners that were released had finished their mission from below. That's a good sign. We're almost done here. He thought as he turned to face the barrier. There was a crack starting to form on the barrier, and that gave him an idea.

As he moved towards the barrier, he flipped his sword so that he was holding the hilt in front of him. Being careful not to slash himself, he used all of his strength to slam the hilt of his sword right at the spot where the crack was forming. With enough force, this would help break the barrier.

From behind him, Lena was finished sending off a prayer to those that had fallen in battle. She noticed Ziaram head off towards the barrier and started to follow him before noticing what he was doing. She chanted a spell from the tome, and shot the magic off towards the barrier to help weaken it.

I say that this is just another challenge for me to overcome while my arm is recovering

Horatio
▫ ▪Altiplos Warrior▪ ▫

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Horatio didn’t notice the paladin was coming for him. He was too occupied in his fight against the earlier sword cavalier. There would have been no time for him to turn around and fend off another blow from the troublesome horse-rider. Horatio was sure that this time he was going to be hit, as he turned around and braced himself for impact. He shut his eyes.

Nothing came though. He looked up to see that Mihira held off the man’s spear, but that didn’t stop him completely. He heard the wyvern rider calling out to her mount, ordering it to roar. The Estarcian held his hands over his ears, to spare them the sound of the mighty beast’s call. The sound was a loud, thunderous one that echoed throughout the field, having just the desired effect. The paladin that had prepared for Horatio’s arrival with a weapon to counter his was now defenseless, thrown off his horse.

The Estarcian warrior brought his hammer down swiftly on his enemy, striking a crushing blow. He took a moment to catch his breath. ”Phew, that’s over. Let’s keep going! We have to push forward and reinforce Chince!” Horatio told Mihira, pointing in her general direction with his weapon. She was able to fend off the enemy for now, but would need their help quickly. He looked back at Mihira as he took off toward the soldiers that were trying to surround Chince. ”Do you think a vulnerary would help your wyvern?” he asked. ”I could always toss him one of mine! I have a few.”

There was a wall nearby. Those were usually good for support. Then again there was that one incident... but that was a different time, a different place, and a different continent.
Where was her sword!? Oh yeah, she was holding it. The thing was shaky. It was ready to fall apart anyways. Just one more fight she promised herself. Now she remembered something... didn't she grab one of those fancy healing thingies at the camp... what were they called? vulnerability? That wasn't it. She pulled the brown bag out from her clothes.... Now how do you use it? She never bothered to ask.
Luckily it looked like Horatio was approaching her. She couldn't do much prone. She had a good feeling that help would arrive soon, and was calmer then before. But as long as the enemy armor had a warm body in it, she wouldn't go to sleep again.

- Kierkess Renvald -

Though Kierkess had so wanted to jump into the fray and take some heads now that he was reunited with his trusty battle axe, he'd realized that both the incredible amount of activity in the area and his lack of experience with combat on foot left him a bit lost in this situation. Sure there were some people to smack around, but then there was also a suspicious looking magic wall and some shady characters maintaining it from behind. This wasn't quite what he was used to...and he was especially wary of spellslingers, to be honest. User Image

Still, it was enough for him to take the lead of one of his temporary allies and move in, especially when the main focus was simply that arcane barrier. Even if he was without a mount with which to gloriously ride into battle, he could sure as hell swing that axe. Bounding forward to join Ziaram's side, Kierkess psyched himself up with a mighty warcry and put all of his brute force into a downward swing of the halberd, oblivious of the fact that he was probably leaving himself open in this unfamiliar environment by focusing so intently on smashing what was in front of him. Or rather he knew that well enough, but felt the need to blow off some more steam today and be of use to the prison-break club.

Cyric Adair

PostPosted: Tue Jan 17, 2012 5:41 am

Without knowing I'm alone underneath this moonlight
I've got a feeling that fragile things are being moved far off
By the power of always believing you'll be near me

I called out only your name

Inside this light...
On nights where it's like I can't catch hold of anything
There isn't a day I don't think about it

-Cyric-

Once the soldiers had been cleared, the group moved toward the final obsticle, another barrier with what looks like druids on the otherside. Seems like Cyric's group wasn't the only one who had a jail break..but Clara's partner, Ziaram seemed to be here as well! However too busy to realize that everybody had gathered. He watched as the myrmidon started bashing on the barrier with the hilt of his sword. The king let out a sigh of relief before pulling the same stunt he did on that earlier barrier. "You could sure use some help." The king pointed out, backing up once more before slamming against the barrier.

He didn't even have to give commands to the other soldiers before they joined one at a time. Some used their fists, others used the base of their weapons.

___________

I've been searching for the future forever.
I've been searching for the future with you

You quietly gazed at me

Call out my name underneath this moonlight
I promise I'll go see you, no matter where
To your side

User ImageThe hands I'd kept clean
Now look dirty
Before I can doubt my memories
My memories are doubting me...

Hectic, hectic, hectic. No matter where she went, she was accompanied by the cacaphony of screams, metal crashing on metal, and the whistle of arrows. Annis couldn't help but dwell on it as her knives clashed with steel, expertly deflecting a sword strike before an attack of her own freed a man's jugular from the confines of his throat. While the others had been busy fighting druids and banging their fists against the otherworldly sheen of the magical barrier that separated their groups, Annis and Loch had been circling the area that their squadron occupied, assuming the defense. Loch hovered overhead, expertly picking off soldiers that attempted to surprise attack Horatio or Chince or anyone else as well as targeting archers wherever he could find them - even discounting his own weakness to arrows, they were still deadly and hard to detect when they were coming up from behind you. Annis, meanwhile, stuck closer to the ground, knives flashing in the light as men and women fell before her.

Sporting a few good cuts of her own, as well as an annoyingly painful scorch mark on her hip from a glancing Elfire, Annis let out a short breath and looked around the area. The enemy reinforcements were beginning to thin out; she was actually able to catch her breath inbetween fights by now. The raven ran one hand through her choppy brown hair, vaguely reflecting on how it'd actually gotten a little longer as she sidestepped an enemy lunging with a lance, responding by lashing out with her last throwing knife.

"Annis! A word!" Loch's voice reached her ears easily, even through the sounds of battle.

She removed the steel implement from his throat after he fell to the ground without moving, flicking the blood off before flying up to meet with Loch. "You think we've done about as much as we can by this point?"

"They continue to attack," he murmured, not taking his eyes off the battlefield. He cast a bolt of lightning down on the field near them, scorching an enemy mage into dust. He shuddered slightly before looking over to Annis, only long enough for him to swap the yellow-bound tome for one wrapped in green. "But we cannot stay forever. We must continue on."

"Continue where?"

"The enemy commander." Loch glanced meaningfully down at the ground momentarily, then turned his eyes back to the battlefield, battering a small group of enemy swordsmen with wind until they were tumbling and knocking into each other, away from the fight.

"Tanner...?" Annis searched for him, eyes poring over the battlefield. After a minute's efforts, Annis pointed with the tip of her bloody knife, down to where the enemy lancer continued to aggress a ******** blind man. "Right, him. That a*****e."

Loch cleared his throat quietly, but only gave a slight chuckle in response to her choice of language before continuing. "We should aid him. In any case, we cannot remain up here forever."

"Right... Yeah. Makes sense. I can't stand how he's ******** targeting the blind guy, anyway."

"If he was concerned about his sight impairing him, he would not be on the battlefield," Loch murmured, though he began to lower down towards the ground just the same. Annis grinned, performing the pointless gesture of sweeping her hair off of her forehead. "Go on ahead. I will cover you and the others from behind."

Annis leaned over and pecked him briefly on the cheek. With an excited grin, she dove down towards the fight already in progress, eyes wide. Staying silent this time, Annis aimed for Tanner as she flew in from behind, slashing at his neck and back.

"Tch," Kione was dissatisfied by the fact that all of his summons were already down, but at least they did their job and the soldiers guarding the barrier were now destroyed. There were people already bashing at the barrier and everyone soon was charging at it. Kione opened his flux tome again and joined in on the attack against the barrier. He could see the old man behind the barrier from earlier when he was behind bars. Oh how the summoner could not wait to kill that man as he pissed him off so much with just his face.

Being focused enough, Quentin already anticipated a strike coming, and the presence of the lance about to make contact with his head was enough. Shifting his body slightly, avoiding the strike was easy enough. He felt Tanner jump back, and his yell as he moved in to strike again alerted him. "Let's end this." he said below his breath, dodging by spinning past the approaching spear's tip. The weakness of a lance was that once the tip missed you'd have a hard time dealing any type of damage, and with that in mind, Quentin turned his back over to Tanner, stabbing his sword backwards in a straightforward motion, aiming (or well, attempting) at the sergeant's lower torso, hoping his own body would obscure where the blow would land at.

Verruckt noticed that all of the soldiers in front of the barrier had been killed or otherwise incapacitated, leaving only the shamans and the druid behind the barrier. He aimed at one of the weak spots in the barrier and launched a Shine spell at the crack, widening it further than it already was from the attacks of the other prisoners.

With the barrage of attacks from the prisoners, the shield eventually came shattering down. The dark sages all hastily turned to their tomes and began to cast their elder magic. Fluxes sank into the ground, shot forward and came erupting upward. Tendrils soared forwards. Chama tapped his cane on the ground and a smaller barrier shot up in front of one of the prisoner's path, who smacked right into it and fell backwards. "Uwheh heh... Whoops! Youngsters should really watch their step!"

User Image The blind man's move was flashy and Tanner readied to block him with his shield until he felt the sudden jolt of pain in the back of his neck. His eyesight blurred for a second and his arms gave way to gravity, letting the blind man's sword plunge into his unprotected gut. Tanner gasped and dropped his lance. Blood leaked quickly from his neck and torso as he struggled to retain his vision. He turned his head slowly to look at the back of the blind man's head. "But... you were... just a damn cripple... ...How..." As the sword was removed, he fell backwards onto the cobblestone, adding to the corpses on the field.

There were no other obstacles in the way of entering the prison. All that was needed was to get the right key from one of the dead guards. Others could take the time to catch their breath and patch themselves up a little during the search.

Quentin removed his blade from the sergeant's gut, quickly slashing in the air to get rid of excess blood. He stood still as Tanner's last words were spoken, his body slowly slumping to the ground.

"I'm not a cripple." he said in response. "Only blind."

With his foe finally defeated, he turned around to face the body. "You were a formidable foe, Sergeant Tanner. In another place or time, maybe this would've ended differently. Or if you hadn't underestimated my talent. May your deity take you in."

As if the seriousness had taken a toll on him, all his energy drained, Quentin suddenly went back to being silly.

"...AH! Mort! We need to find your other half! Ymer! Ymer, where are you? And dagnabbit can someone find me my cane?! It's at the bottom of some stairs...I think. Anyone? Help? I can't really see without it!"

In the chaos of the battle it was difficult to really hear what anyone was doing beyond the clashing and clanging of weapons, or to make out familiar faces amongst the blurs of movement all around. Mia took care to keep a good eye out so as to not attack a comrade, but to back up those who needed it against the ever coming enemy; she herself suffered from a couple of cuts, and some minor burns and scrapes from when she wasn't quite able to dodge a spell, but she wasn't nearly as badly off as others- being fast on her feet had probably saved her life more than once- hopefully she'd keep getting lucky.

When Ziaram began attacking the barrier with the obvious intent on making it through, Mia went to join him, but before she could start chiseling away there were quite a few other people who got the same idea, and she decided to roll with the punches- or in this case roll with the random assortment of people attacking the barrier (more than one of whom were punching the wall incidentally)- and defend them against attack so they could keep working undisturbed.

...Of course, defending against oncoming swords and axes was one thing, and defending against lances she could handle with a little bit of difficulty, but when dark magic began creeping towards her- Mia knew that she was in a wee bit over her head- so she called out a "Look out!" to whomever was nearby and potentially in danger before relying on that fancy footwork of hers to get out of the way. The length of the battle was starting to take its toll though, for one of the tendrils managed to reach her and wrapped around her arm, imploding inward and leaving quite the burn.

Mia surveyed the damage with a wan smile- it wasn't her dominant arm, thank goodness- but she was fairly certain that not being able to move it was a bad sign. She almost wished Rhys was there so someone would properly freak out about it. As it was, she just had to grit her teeth and bear it.

Parrying a blow, the swordsman surveyed her surroundings to see what had happened, and eventually her gaze settled on the barrier that was now hindering the prisoners; they all looked more than ready to help, but it was clear that they were exhausted and had been through a lot. Mia knew that it probably wasn't her best decision to run out into the open to help them, but there were enough people aiming at the barrier she was near- the one with the prisoners could use more force. So she turned on her heel and dashed towards them, doing her best to ward off enemies along the way, but the proceeding was slow, and by the time she got to the barrier to start helping to bash away at it she was tired. It didn't help she had to defend herself against people trying to keep her away from the thing either.... Mia was starting to wonder how much longer she could hold out- she loved fighting, but this was getting ridiculously exhausting.

"Please be careful if you wish to return to the fray kind sir!"

It was the last words the cleric, trying to keep her body from shaking throughout, managed to mutter before the soldier she had taken the time to mend took his leave. It had been this way for seemingly an eternity, though reality ran by a different clock. But the efforts and sacrifices of the men hadn't been in vain. The barrier had been broken...And now they were rewarded with Fluxes and such sorts of dark magic flowing from the defensive line of druids. A small prayer had been muttered before the girl steeled herself and jumped into the fray. This sort of thing just came with her job, but she would rely on her own personal blessing. Her natural resistance to this sort of thing did come in handy from time to time. Just as she thrown herself to the side to escape an activated Flux glyph, thankful for it being brought to her attention, a rather strange patient appeared at her side.

"Oh dear...Another Laguz. Your stay here must not have been favorable in the slightest. Your nose is a trivial matter. Just a few seconds underneath my mending and you'll be fine. ...The harmonica..Is...Is another thing altogether. I can make you something bu-"

It was then, as the staff she gripped tightly had started to emit its restorative aura, that another flux glyph erupted against a poor soul not too far from the two. Her grip tightened for a moment, her resolve braced once more. It wasn't stupidity or courage that had kept her going. It was a sense of preservation and duty that kept her cemented where she was needed. Her palms were damp with sweat, matched by a chest almost erupting as her heartbeat sky-rocketed.

"But as you can see, this isn't the best place for it. I can prepare something for you soon. But for now...Get to the back."

Her heal staff was slung over in its place, resting beside its brother Sleep staff, before Rin locked the holster securely. A deep breath was taken, her chest expanding and relaxing to rest to her normal breathing patterns...

And then she was off once more.
