Ok so I just joined the guild. Ive been religously confused for some time now. I was an athiest (Non religous person) for the longest time, and felt like something was missing. Ive researched many religions and this one makes the most sence to me, Buddhism just seems the most true. I dont give out personal info on the internet, but I will tell you my name. Its Maye.

My name is Amy. i'll be 22 on the 15th. I'm interested in buddhism, but not budhist myself. Perhaps someday, perhaps not.
I live in California, but sunny weather is unusual in my town.
What i mean is, i live on the coast of CA, in a valley.
So that's why it's usualy cold, foggy, windy, or rainy here.
But it's also nice becuase it hardly ever gets hotter than 80 degrees.
(but who knows with global warming?)

I am the youngest child of three. I have had many bf's. most i have known online.
Of those, i only met 2 in person.
I once had a bf that i met in highschool, a "real" bf.
The short version of the drama is:
I broke up with an e-bf, that i had met in person, to be with the boy i met in highschool. than, highschool boy dumped me for someone he knew online.
(talk about what goes around comes around, right?)

anyway, i'm done with dating online. Nothing personal against men who live far away...i just want a bf that i could actualy hug whenever i want =s

but that will never happen unless
A) a guy actualy notices me and talks to me and even asks me out
B) i build up more self esteem and confadence and ask a guy out

Good Morning, afternoon, or evening!

My name is Zachary, I am currently going to college. I am very interested in Buddhism, and I may become Buddhist myself. Personally, Buddhism just seems like the most reasonable of all of the religions, and I can be Buddhist and still be an atheist.

I feel that I need to learn alot more about the way of life before I make a decision, and that is why I am here.

Welcome Zachary and other newcomers! This is just a little aside to mention that you college students have excellent access to hard-to-find (and common) Buddhist works in the university libraries. If your university is anything like mine, there'll be a hefty section with 100+ good books to check out.

Of course, university libraries are among the best on the planet for a wide range of scholarly subjects, and I tend to get lost for an afternoon if I go through the rows browsing mrgreen

Hello, my name is Alex and I live in the U.S.A. I am 13 years old and have just not found out about Buddhism. I have many questions, and still have a long way to go before I pledge myself Buddhist, but I hope to get some information from this guild. Buddhism caught my eye because I have herd of it and that I have recently turned away from Christianity, and do not wish to become part of a biased religion like judaism or Islam or christianity. I think Buddhism will help me out a lot!!!

Hello there, I'm Shaka. Though my real name is Breanna. domokun

I have been looking into Buddhism for several months (while I considered myself an Atheist) and have taken the final leap into getting serious in my studies and have decided to take Refuge in the Sangha as a laywoman.

I'm sure some of you had seen me in the moral/religious section of the forum, making angry posts. No worries, I've learned to call off my anger (while I was an Atheist) and I'm not so aggressive anymore. smile Meditation = awesome.

I hope to learn from all of you, and vise versa, and it's nice being able to speak to others who also like Gaia, and Buddha.

Edit: I am leaving for US Air Force Basic Training November 27th by the way. So sadly, I will "vanish" for a little more than 6 and 1/2 weeks while I train. But not to worry, I will of course, be back after that is done with. heart

Hi my name's Jen. I live in California, am 20 years old, and an art major at my college.
I was raised a Christian (non-denominational, I think) for most of my life and although I loved to sing the songs, I was always unsure about whether or not I was 'saved'. Finally around my freshmen/sophemore year, my uncertainty combined with some other things (such as questioning the legitmacy of Christianity based on what I knew about mythology, and my conflicts with my more religious friends about issues such as homosexuality and evolution) I broke away from Christianity and became...well... an arrogant hard atheist (not saying that being a hard atheist makes you arrogant, just that I was arrogant sweatdrop ) Unfortunately, I was terrified that I would end up wrong and went into depression, but still maintained the outlook that I was confident. It remained this way until I read a few books about Buddhism. The feeling I had when I was reading the books are pretty undescribable. It was just incredible to find something that seemed to fit with a lot of my beliefs, and to find ideas that I had not thought of before but made a lot of sense 3nodding .
Right now I guess I'm more of a soft atheist, but I am very interesting in Buddhism. I do find it hard to practice, being as my parents are fairly religious, and expect me to be a Christian (yes, I live with my parents, it's cheaper that way during college). I'm sure that they have seen my Fat Buddha statue (a gift from a Buddhist friend heart ) but at most they'll lecture me about 'straying from God' and about titheing to the church.
Mostly, I've come here because although I know some general things about Buddhism, I would like to get into the specifics about different sects, practices, and such. Thanks, and sorry for the long post. I don't post often, but sometimes when I do I end up typing a lot.
PS. There are at least two things I know I need to work on: patience and ego.

Name's Makku.

I'm not a buddhist. Not anything, really. I'm not sure I'm ready to buy into re-incarnation, only on the basis that I know that it's impossible to know. Studying the afterlife with our limited cognitive abilities is like looking for galaxies with a magnifying glass.

I'm most drawn to Mahayana, the entire world being an illusion, that whole bit. Incidentally, if anyone here hasn't read "Illusions" by Richard Bach, I'd recommend picking it up or finding an etext.

That's pretty much it.

Hey kiddos! I'm Nicci but I have gotten so used to being called 'xiao mei' that sometimes I am a little shocked when someone outside my family calls me by my real name, haha. For those who don't know, xiao mei is Chinese for little mei, sometimes meant to infer 'little sister'. At any rate you might wonder why this eighteen-year-old caucasian American is called Xiao Mei more often than her own name. Well, I am a chinese mandarin linguist and when you spend eight hours a day with the same group of boys almost every day of the week, you tend to collect a wide range of dorky nick-names.

My interest in Buddhism has been long standing but it was only until recently that I began to study it more indeptly. I come from a religion-neutral household although my extended family is made up of Catholics. If anything you could say my mother raised me with a paganistic spiritual environment. I gravitated towards the earth-worship religions early in my childhood and took up an interest in the Occult from there.

But here I am now, kind of at a crossroads in my life and finding that a lot of the doctrine in paganism just isn't what I am looking for on a maturer level. Buddhism, however, is a different story. As of right now I have not chosen which path is right for me but we will see what happens with time!

Love to everybody, glad I could become part of this awesome community!
If anyone wants to chat one on one, send me a long a PM. =)

I love you so much it hurts me
And there's nothing I can do

Hi there. I'm Liz (although you can call me Katrina too, if you want) and I just turned 17. I became interested in Buddhism.... About 3 years ago after I saw that movie with Keanu Reeves but I didn't do any serious research about it until about 6 months ago.

My mom is Catholic (although she was raised Lutheran) and my dad is agnostic. My mom's actually really upset with her Catholic church currently so she's been going to Unitarian services recently. My parents are actually pretty liberal when it comes to religion and they've been really supportive through my research. And when I say "really supportive" I mean they went ahead and bought a statue of the Buddha for me to meditate in front of in the back yard.

I haven't really decided which sect is quite what I'm looking for just yet but I've been gravitating towards Tibetan Buddhism. I'm fairly political and I don't like that the Chinese government has been cruel to a group of pacifists. That's like taunting a panda at a zoo; it can't do anything to you, why are you being so mean?

When I was just starting out my research I more or less converted my friend Will by accident. It wasn't exactly a conversion, he asked questions and I told him what I knew but ever since, he and I have helped each other out on our path to enlightenment.

I hope to one day go to law school. Because if there's anything the world needs, it's more lawyers with a little loving-kindness.

I want to hold you, my dear, forever and ever
I love you so much it hurts me so

Welcome newcomers! Feel more than free to post in the forums; the more discussion the better!

I'm also interested in Tibetan Buddhism, so feel free to ask me if you have any questions. There are also at least a few members of the guild that are Tibetan Buddhists (with live gurus, unlike me) who can help.

first off, Hi! You can call me crymsin or rainbow which ever. I am pretty new to Buddhism although I come from a Wiccan background. I am not a university student but I do have access to the college library at the Mississippi University for Women and they have a pretty hefty section on religion. They don't quite have 100+ books but they do have quite a few!
Good Day.

Hello. My name is Zach and I am 16. I have been going to a Lutheran church with my dad all my life and only in the past year or so have I become interested in religion/philosophy. I don't have a proper title or category for my beliefs, but I have found that Buddhism includes many of them. I hope to learn more about Buddhism and myself.

Hey everyone~

I'm Kier, I'm 19, and I live in Australia.
I've been an atheist my whole life. Didn't grow up in a religious family.

I've always been somewhat curious about Buddhism, mainly because my mother has always had our house and garden decked out with all sorts of different Buddha statues. She doesn't follow Buddhism as far as I know, but she has said that she admires them, because she believes it's the only decent religion out there.
So I picked up an interest there, and only recently decided to learn more about it.

So I wanted to learn about Buddhism, and so far it just seems to be all I think about as of late. I decided I'll try it out to the best of my ability.

The only hurdle I have to get over that would be holding me back would be me always finding things wrong with people and making fun of it behind their backs. I don't know what gets me off on that, but I'm always doing it. Maybe it makes me feel superior.
To be honest, it's not something I would think that I'd do, because the majority of the time I am the most caring and loving person. I think I've just become a little bitter over the past few years. So that needs to stop.

I really want to learn as much as I can about it. Because I feel that it'll help me stay a better and happier person.
