Jane nodded in agreement. "Perhaps we should store some food as well." Heading off to locate a fruit tree, she left Cypher to collect the twigs and stones he needed.

Carefully balancing the load of fern leaves on his back, Cypher went about filling his pockets once more with stones and twigs. That finished, he turned to Jane, waiting for her to collect the fruit.

The female collected what fruit she could find and set it on the leaves which already adorned her back. With a quick glance at Cypher, she headed back to the cave. Hopefully John hadn't gotten into any mischief in their absence.

Cypher followed her silently, working to keep everything balanced on his back.
Back in the cave, John was still curled up by the fire, sleeping lightly.

Jane padded softly into the cave, noting her mate's slumber. Setting her load down near a wall, she stepped over to help Cypher with his and began removing the braches a bunch at a time.

Cypher waited until everything was removed from his back before taking his load of rocks and twigs over to the fire to work on it.
John twitched slightly, but remained asleep.

Carrying the fern leaves over to John, she laid them gently on the ground beside him. After padding around to his opposite side, she began nudging her mate towards it, hoping to roll him over without waking him.

Whining a bit and swatting a paw, the black pup rolled over onto the bed of leaves.
Cypher built the ring of rocks to an acceptable level, throwing a few twigs onto the fire as he worked. Satisfied with their new fire pit, the white pup sat back on his haunches to watch.

With John comfortably on his new bed, Jane went about making bedding for herself next to his. Once finished, the female pup settled onto the soft leaves and watched the glow of the fire as it lulled her towards sleep.

The other two resting comfortably, Cypher dragged some leaves over to the opposite side of the fire to build his own bedding. Soon finishing, Cypher plopped down into the leaves and settled in for a while.
John slept on, paws twitching a bit.

Yawning slightly, her maw opening wide and tounge arching a bit, Jane laid down her head and settled in for a short nap.

Cypher smirked slightly at Jane before putting his own head down. Oddly marked wings folding around his body, the pup felt completely at ease, and soon found himself asleep.

Time had passed, the pups learning about their surroundings and forming plans. They had also grown a bit, evidence that they would soon reach adulthood.
John had been out surveying the land, and a loud yipe signalled his return to the cave. Whimpering, the pup dragged himself and a plushie in the shape of a cactus from who knows where into the cave. Slowly going over to his bed, the pup collapsed, finally releasing the plushie from his mouth. The poor thing's body was covered in cactus needles, wounds oozing with a bit of blood.
Off in his own corner of the cave, Cypher was busy constructing some sort of contraption out of various bits of metal he had collected. John's return caused the pup's ears to flatten and his head to quickly swivel around.
"John!! You scared the bejesus out of me...and..whoa...what the hell happened to you?!"
"Nothing...."
John whined slightly, limbs twitching.
"Riggghhhttt....."

Jane looked up from the book in which she was currently engrossed, distracted by John's whimpers. "John!! What did you do to yourself?!" She asked, tossing the book away to rush to his side. Her eyes flew over his form, inspecting each wound to determine the most severe as she awaited an answer.

John laid his head down, ears flattening against his head.
"...nothing?..."
Cypher snorted.
"You're a terrible liar John..."
He, however, made no rush to help the two.
