Jane, satisfied that his rapier was fine, began to polish his favorite weapon. His rapier...there was a reason he favored it. Sure, he knew part of that reason now, even if the main part was missing. His eyes glanced over each of the nervous nurses before setting the rapier by his side and settling back down into his bed. He allowed himself to drift off into a calm and quiet sleep.

Nico noticed how he seemed to be focused, but unfocused, tilting her head a little bit as she cleaned out the barrels of her guns. Sighing lightly, she nodded in agreement, lowering her eyes to her work again. "I concur. And then his amnesia. Once he asked Gabriel and I how we'd feel if we didn't remember anything of our lives like him. What we'd do." She paused to check something before setting the parts aside, having to gather her bangs behind her ears again. "Gabriel wasn't sure. He'd do whatever he could to remember. Me?" She chuckled to herself and shook her head, a bitter smirk rising to her lips. "I don't think it would be so bad. I do hope Jane remembers eventually, for better or for worse. It'll give him some peace." She raised her gaze to him, her expression impassive once more. "What about you? How do you think you'd fare?"

Roran paused at her question. Meeting her gaze, he spoke softly, "I'd embrace it. Not knowing anything makes everyday a new adventure. It also protects your feelings. Never feeling sad, anger, any negative feelings would be great. The downside is you'd never get to feel the positive emotions too. Joy, love, none of it." A small smile spread across his face. "Though I suppose seeing a beautiful woman such as yourself everyday would make up for it." Finally looking away, he broke the lock between their eyes. Looking back at the ceiling, he chuckled on the inside. Poor Jane.

Nico listened without movement to his answer, pausing in her work again since she was almost done for the most part. Just a couple more things. At his comment towards her she blushed and smiled a little, lowering her gaze to her pistols. She liked his answer. Logical, simple, honest. She should have expected nothing less from him. At least her team had that. They were all honest. "This is true. In a way, it could be like getting a new shot at life. Make it your own." She added, not really sure if she should comment upon his last statement.

Taking a deep breath, she began to reassemble one pistol, her thoughts rolling over in her head as a quiet began to settle around them. She heard beeping and alarms come from the one bed again, closing her eyes, her hands beginning to tremble. One of the bits slipped from her fingers, clattering to the floor, the world going weird around her. "He's going tacky. Doctor, what should we do?" Shutting her eyes, she could hear those snippets of conversation again, the memory flashing across her eyes. Shuddering, it was as if the real worlds sound dropped to nothing, leaving her with an ever building roar of the jumbled voices speaking at once.

Her body was beginning to tremble, her hands clenching even if they were holding something. The edges dug into her palms, her forearms clamping down on either side of her head. Then she saw Alden again in that facility. That clone. His expression. Heard his words. That smile. "Hey sis, can we go home?" Her legs shot into her chest, scattering everything that had been in her lap. Go away, go away GO AWAY!! She thrashed as if it would cast aside the weight building on her chest, tears starting to stream down her chest. Cackling. Who was cackling?
"The Minoru's have fallen far if their daughter is like this. I will have to see to this."

Hands. They were gripping her. Forcing her down. Why was everything heavy? She couldn't think. ouch! Pinprick. Needle. Had to be. Calm. The cloud in her head was clearing up slowly, her body couldn't quite move. What was..... Her eyes refocused, only now realizing that her cheeks were wet. What.... Blinking, she looked around the room, seeing nurses around her, binding her hands to the bed, a couple picking up the pieces of her pistols. "What.... Huh?" She muttered, her eyes immediately following a movement out of the corner of her eye, her heart beating painfully again. "Kaoru?" The nurses quieted her, taking deep breaths, directing her in ways to calm down. Their words felt sort of muffled. Not that they heard muffled, they literally felt as if they felt muffled. Something about the psychologist coming to visit.... Closing her eyes, she sighed heavily and wondered what had just happened, then remembering Roran was there. Ah hell.

"Um... Roran? What happened?" She asked him once everyone had gone and they were alone again, looking towards him as best she could. She continued to take calming breaths, really not looking forward to a psych session. Not now.

Hearing the clang, Roran swung his legs over the bed, going and picking the piece up. It was then that she started to have her fit. Retrieving her weaponry from the floor as the doctors rushed over, he put her guns back together correctly, and sat there waiting out the doctors. When she came to, he sent them away, saying he could handle it. When they didn't leave, he growled. "Go!" Using his power as an energy bender to sap some energy from them, he scared them off. Teetering a little, he caught his balance, shaking his head to recollect himself. Standing next to her, he brushed her hair out of her face, and wiped the tears from her face. "Oi, you can't do that. You make everyone freak out. Being the star around here means you gotta take care of yourself." Smirking slightly, he chuckled. "Plus, if girls as pretty as you do that, I might just have a heart attack."

Handing her things to her, his smirk turned into a soft, sympathetic smile. "So, what happened?"
PostPosted: Fri Aug 20, 2010 7:58 pm

Nico blinked, watching as the doctors left due to Roran's interference. She bit her lower lip when she saw him teeter, breathing normally since she felt fine minus the severe confusion and painful weight on her chest. She knew that feeling too well. Chuckling at him, her eyes almost seemed murky, their color a wash of browns, golds, and blackness. It almost looked like the black was trying to consume the brown. "Sorry, sometimes I just can't help myself." She joked, blushing faintly at his flirtatious comment. "Well, we can't have that at all."

She tested the restraints, sighing lightly to find them very tight. So she just had him plop them down in her lap since that was about the only place for them on her person at that point in time. "Thanks." She murmured, glancing over to where she vaguely remembered beeping. Shuddering at a flash on garbled everything, she took a deep breath and closed her eyes. She had to soothe out and fill in the space of her mind with music. It was a good distraction she found.

"I.... Well, hospitals and I don't get along. Both because they make me uncomfortable and..." She looked uncomfortable, not quite comfortable with sharing her burden with her teammate. Then again, who else would she share it with? "Sometimes I freak out. I never really remember much of them, but I usually end up waking up to a similar situation to this." She tried to move her good arm, and was stopped, looking up to him with a half sort of smile. "Though usually coffee or chocolate is involved along with someone checking my eyes or the whole in the wall." She chuckled faintly to herself, shaking her head.

Another flash of that face. That expression. Words. Biting her lower lip, she shut her eyes tight, two memories coming together into one. Her throat tightened up, one more tear rolling down her cheek. "I miss him Roran. I've had to deal with his death once already. It's hard to try to do it again. Especially when..." She opened her eyes and heard the gunshot in her ears as if she had just done it again, her gaze glancing to her guns in her lap. "I'm sorry. I really should try harder to get ahold of this. I can't break down on the team every time I'm in a similar location or the past gets brought up." She said softly, looking up to him with an apologetic expression. She really had to be a better leader. She was horrible at this. It didn't matter if the situation was sort of forced on her, she still should try to be better. It could not be about her at all. Not in her eyes. She couldn't bring them down because of her issues.

Roran softly smiled, he understood fears pretty well. Not knowing who this "him" was, he stroked her head. Leaning down and kissing her head gently, he shook his own slightly. "Who made you leader?" He cocked his eyebrow, moving to leave. "There was never a vote, no one has put you in charge. So why can't you show weakness?" Turning his back to her as he was about to walk out the door, he turned his head back slightly. "I'll go get coffee and chocolate."

Leaving, he returned ten minutes later. "Oi, I don't know how you like your coffee, so I got ten creams and ten sugars. I figured any more and you might die." Putting her cup down, and some chocolate next to it, he held a glass of chocolate milk in his hand. Allowing a pause for her to fix her drink up, he finally spoke. "So tell me about him." Pulling up a chair to her bed, he gazed into her eyes intently. If she talked with him, he was confident he could convince the psychiatrist she was okay.

She was caught off-guard when he kissed her forehead, the blush not quite leaving until a moment or two later. At his question, Nico opened her mouth to speak but paused and closed it again. Her eyes lowered, and as he went on, they raised to him once more. Ok seriously, she was not used to this. She probably should be, but she wasn't. "I...." Well, she was left to ponder that for a few moments while he went to get coffee and chocolate. When one wasn't used to trusting people with such information or weaknesses of character, it was strange to be treated such as a result. All that had happened when she had arrived and everything that she needed to know was said, they just gave her dossier's and was told that this was her team. It made her scoff as she thought about that further. The job had practically been thrown at her head which promptly caused her to fall over. The mental image made her smirk and shake her head, sighing lightly.

Looking up from her thoughts as he came in, she laughed, shaking her head a bit. "I fear that may be true. I do use a lot though so I'm glad you grabbed enough." She wriggled her hands again, getting her one hand free by some means, moving her hand about to stretch out her wrist a little. She sipped her coffee, pausing as she was about to lower the mug to his statement, her eyes looking up to him from her drink. Placing the mug down, she picked up the chocolate and took a bite, wondering where to begin.

Swallowing after a moment, Nico sat up a little more, as much as was possible at least. "Alden was one of the sweetest boys you'd ever meet. Since mom and dad were never really home, I mostly raised him myself. Kaoru, his power, helped. He was a little dragon that could grow if needed. They shared a telepathic bond." She began to explain, seeing that movement out of the corner of her eye again which made her pause. Again, nothing was there. Sipping at her coffee, her eyes met his once more, now placing aside her two pistols. "He loved running around in the park. We'd sneak out since mom and dad didn't like us heading out. Especially him. He wasn't necessarily sickly, but it seemed like he needed to get regular visits from doctors. I didn't understand it at the time. He sometimes would ask me why I didn't have to even though I always had to draw my blood in order to summon my staff. It worried him." She smiled sadly and grew distant, a memory sliding past. But then it was couple with that one expression again. Shuddering, she shut her eyes again, involuntarily startling and recoiling though it caused a throb of pain in her wounds. Another tear rolled down her cheek. Blinking, her eyes refocused on his before turning away again.

"I had to head off to school and when I got home the one day he wasn't there. Mom told me he had to go to the hospital. And as usual, it was almost like she didn't even care. I wasn't allowed to visit him till the very end. And all he did was ask me if I had come to take him home. How I was doing, if I missed him, things like that. Then he was gone. I found out part of the truth and ran away from home. I couldn't stay there. Not anymore. Not with them" Her voice was strong, yet it trembled. It sounded like she wanted to cry, yet shout out in her rage and pain. Duality and paradox all in one, now chomping off a good sized chunk of her chocolate. Endorphins were very much necessary right now.

Sighing gently at her story, how do you respond to that? He sipped his milk as she spoke, smirking as she broke out of her ensnarement...it hadn't occured to him. Shrugging unnoticably, he listened intently. There was no reason for him to ignore her. Allowing a silence to fall again, he just gazed at her. After a few minutes, he let out a sigh. "You're a tough one," he says in a half chuckle. Smiling at her, he drank from his cup again. Holding it in his lap, he sat back, relaxing a bit. "He sounds like a good kid."

Having noticed her sidewards glance, he wasn't sure what it was for. There's nothing there...if there were I would be able to sense it. Pausing before speaking again, he did so in the gentlest way possible. "So...he's dead now?" Sipping again, he really did like chocolate milk.

Having finished off her chocolate, she sipped again at her coffee, rolling her eyes in agreement with a shrug at his statement. Swallowing, she sort of chuckled, giving an awkward sort of smile. "Never claimed to be easy." She said softly, brushing her bangs back as they stubbornly fell in front of her face, lowering her eyes again. "He was for sure." It came out as a sort of mumble, finishing off her coffee, the mug clinking softly against the tray near her bed.

Although she knew he was trying to be careful, she still cringed in the slightest, her still restrained hand clenching into a fist despite the pain it shot up her arm. "Yes." She muttered, not looking at him. "They tried cloning him at that last facility we blew up. I made sure of it." She said softly, remembering how she crushed that scientist apart. The smell of the blood, the sound his bones made as they crunched and crackled, the way his flesh splurged upon itself and became a pile of mush.

He stayed silent, knowing she hadn't wanted to talk about it to begin with. He didn't want to say it, but he knew he had to. If he didn't, this might all be pointless. Looking away, it hurt even him to have to ask it. Not looking at her as he spoke, he instead stared at the inside of his cup, the milk swirling around as he turned the cup. "So, er, did they succeed?" This was the key question. If they did manage to clone the kid, well, nothing is wrong with her. She's looking out of the corner of her eyes, very on edge, it would all be explained. If they hadn't cloned the kid however, she was extremely paranoid, and probably would need to see the doctor. Taking another sip, he finally had the courage to look at her for her answer.

She could hear that laughter out of the corner of her eyes, the black returning to her eyes, consuming the brown rapidly. The world seemed to slip and she could see him running down the hall with a screaming laugh, Kaoru in tow. But then the dragon seemed to stop in mid air and stare at her with a knowing gaze. With that, she was thrown back into reality at his question, both her hands clenching tightly.

Her jaw grew tense, eyes narrowing at her pistols before she turned to look at him square in the eye. "I had to look into his smiling face and shoot him Roran. Yeah, I'd say they succeeded." She said rather harshly, the memory washing over her again. She recoiled as if burned, wincing in pain at her wounds as they began to bleed again.

Forcing herself to lay still, she glared at the ceiling but not quite out of anger. It was more out of pain and guilt. "Sorry... I just.... I had no right to snap at you like that." Looking away from him again, two tears rolled down her cheeks, her knuckles gone white before she finally relaxed her hands. "It's the guilt. And the knowledge that I could have him back with me right now if I had left one to live. But would that have been right?" She murmured, feeling everything slip again. The gunshot echoed in her head as reality seemed to lose it's color, her parents voices ringing in her ears. A conversation. Truth became lies, love turned to hate. Feet pounding, her breath lost as she ran with her bag. Clacking from her rapier at her hip.

A nurse suddenly stepped into view, rebandaging her wounds while glancing to Roran uncertainly. Nico refocused upon the woman, her eyes startling the poor girl. They had turned completely black, even the cornea's. Blinking, the black receded and she seemed to return to normal, color flooding back into view. She wasn't sure she could look at Roran after snapping at him like that, not minding how her bangs had fallen back to their normal position in the way of her eyes.

Roran took the snapping, perfectly fine with it. He had had a normal past. Sure it might have been boring, but it beat having a shitty one. Yet even with this normal past, he understands the pain of others, helping them through it.

Glaring at the nurse, he eyed her warily until she left. He then promptly got up, and stood next to the bed, placing his hand on her fastened one. "Oi," he spoke softly, "It's fine." His thumb ran across her knuckles gently before he let her hand go, though still standing there. "Everyone needs to let these things out. Just because you're our leader means nothing when it comes to this." Gazing with the utmost care at her face, he didn't mind if she refused to look at him. "I'll make sure the psychiatrist leaves you alone. What I want you to do in return, is stay here and relax. Don't do anything else. No Rob, no missions, just relax." Smiling gently now, he turned and began to go. Stopping at the door, he paused. "I assume we have a deal?" Looking back, his smile had become a grin. "I'll get you more coffee," and he left, without an answer. He knew he didn't need one. He'd be back shortly though. He had nothing better to do.
PostPosted: Sat Aug 21, 2010 8:39 pm

Once the nurse was done, Nico half-raised her eyes, at least looking vaguely in the same direction as him. Though, when she felt his hand on hers, she hesitantly raised her eyes, understanding that the touch meant he had taken her lashing out well. She wished she could stop herself from lashing out in such a way, but it was so hard to. She didn't comment about being their leader, instead thinking upon that fact. Maybe she should speak to the higher ups. She wasn't sure if she held the right to lead. Not when she was hearing voices she didn't know and seeing things that she wasn't sure were there.

His gaze made her.... Her expression relaxed, any hints of residual anger vanishing as she seemed rather vulnerable again. Slowly, she felt a smile rise to her lips, nodding even though he had already turned to go. "Deal. Thank you Roran." The second part was softer than her reply, staring up at the ceiling with a heavy sigh. There were people here she could rely on. That she could trust. It really touched her. She felt her jaw tighten again, but it was against the clenching in her throat, her good arm laying over her eyes as she could feel the tears well up. God..... did she deserve this?

He had to hunt the psychiatrist down, but the man was very open to what he said...or rather demanded. After getting the doctor's consent, he got Nico some more coffee, though nothing for him. Grabbing as much cream and sugar as he could muster, he returned to the medical wing, stumbling in to attempt to cease the dropping of sugar packets, for he had inevitable grabbed too many and left a crumb trail in his path. Growling as he put her cup down and all the things in his other hand fell, he let out his slight annoyance with a sigh. Bending over to pick them all up, he placed everything by her cup. "Hopefully this is enough then?" He half asked, half stated. Sitting back down now, he looked at the girl. She was too young to be involved in all this. He got a bit annoyed at this fact. Even someone his age shouldn't be in her position. But who gets to make that call? Either way, he knew he didn't want that position. Smirking now at how he turned his frustration into a joke, he sigh inaudibly. He had nothing to talk about now that she had let everything out already. Gah, I'm boring.
