C.J. smiled back. "Nice t' meet y'all." he said as they got over to his old El Camino. He moved his gear into the back to make room for the kids. He didn't have too much in the cab, pretty clean save for the can of iced tea, a Hawaiian bobble-dancer on the dashboard and a few cds scattered. Mostly mixtapes with band names scrawled on the front. He smiled down at the boy who hid behind his ma.
"It's alright, sonny. I don't bite." he said. He looked back at Misty. "Need a hand gettin' everything in?" he asked.

The little boy blinked and scooted even farther behind Misty.
Misty smiled and looked back up at C.J. "I've got it. It's just carrying it all the way back after that chase that's a bit of a problem." she replied, moving towards the truck now as well. "Thank you, though. This is all very kind of you."

"You got it, Misty. Just lendin' a hand, that's all." he said as he opened the passenger side door. "Y'all make yerselves comfortable, just gotta make sure this thing'll start." he said as he slid behind the wheel of the truck, the big engine turning over. It sounded like an after-market engine. Maybe a Chevy 350 Big Block, but he wouldn't tell.

While C.J. did his thing, Misty went about helping her children into the truck and making sure they were careful about sitting down on the seats. Once they were settled, she handed each one of them a bag to sit on their laps until she could get in herself. She slid into the passenger seat last, put a few bags down by her feet, then the last two on her lap. She carefully closed the door, and the young boy huddled closely against her, still glancing nervously over at C.J.

As soon as everyone was inside, C.J. put the truck into gear and eased it on down the road. He looked over at Misty and smiled. "So where's home fer y'all?" he asked, trying to make polite conversation. Of course, the deja-vu was pretty strong. Was that . . . ? Wait, that ain't canon, who would bring a robot double to a Christmas pa- wait, that's still possible. he thought, trying to get a recollection.

"Down this block, take a right. It will be the white apartment building after the third light." Misty replied.

C.J. nodded. "You got it, hon." he said as they eased down the road. He was listening to the rock station coming in from another town. It wasn't Sonny Burgess, but he didn't mind.

As they drove, Misty kept most of her attention on her two children. The boy contented himself with keeping as close as he could to his mother. Ally, on the other hand, was just a tad more outgoing than her twin. She let her attention wander over the car, her eyes wide with excitement. She'd only been in a taxi before, and that was only a handfull of times. She kept quiet for as long as she could, then just couldn't hold it in anymore.
"Is this really your car? Do you drive it a lot? Do you take the taxi? We take the taxi. Do you live far away? Why do you wear that? Why-"
"Ally..."
"Sorry..."

C.J. smirked, laughing a little bit at the barrage of questions.
"It's alright, hon. This is my car . . . and my home, too. Ask me anything y'all want." he said, bonding a little bit with Ally.

Ally smiled widely at the man's willingness to listen to her. "This is your home too? You can live in a car? Don't you have a home? Where do you go to the bathroom?"

C.J. laughed a bit. "Well, I still live with my friend and his stepbrother, but in a pinch, I'll sleep in the car. I'm really a musician." he said with a smile as he cut the turn a little sharp, but righted himself before something bad happened. Dang steering collumn's off a little bit. I'm gonna have a little talk with Arell when I get home. he thought.

The three were caught off guard by the sharp turn. Misty kept her balance, the boy leaned in closer to her, and Ally was pulled closer to C.J. When she regained her balance, she looked up at him and smiled. "You play music? What kind do you play? Do you sing? Do you do drums?" she asked, then curiously watched the arrows behind the steering wheel.

C.J. smiled. "I sing . . . I actually play Rock N' Roll. Matter of fact I was just up here for a tour. Sorry 'bout the turn." he said, regaining composure.

"Can we come to one of your shows?" Ally asked, looking back at him. "We can all come! We don't get to do a lot with Mommy outside. But now she's taking us places 'steada Aunt Alex, Aunt Roxy, and Uncle Warp."

C.J. smiled. "Y'all can come to my shows anytime." he said, more to everyone as he drove. "I'm act'ally playin' a show tonight if y'all wanna come. Over at the pier I think." he said, trying to remember where he was going to play next.
