It's his personal gel how else would it stay rock solid in water in extreme sweat, wind, sand, sin, possibly being eaten by various monster and therefore it's also mucus resistant.
Squall's sword would break

A new reason for Wakka's Almightyness:
His voice actor(Paul dimaggio) also does the voice of Bender from Futurama notably one of the cooler characters.
Other Voice actors:
Vamp (Phil LaMarr) does the voice of Hermes from futurama

Same with the fact that Quinton Flynn (raiden) also did the voice of reno. unusual mixes don't ya think
