 Felincia completely misunderstood the giggle. "Please tell me you haven't been playing jokes on poor Jesute," she moaned as she caught the evaporated silver in a container. It had taken a while for the silver to boil to the extent she wanted but she figured that in a moment she could put the gas-silver-compressed-air container into a cupboard for later testing.
"Hey, Eva, want to help me with this?" she asked the other girl. "Put some goggles on and those really heavy mitts over there. Then use the tongs and hold this container here over the bunsen burner. No, don't hold it with your hands, use the tongs or I'll report you to lab heads. I need to put this container of silver inside that one, then seal them both. Hold it still now..."
She began to put the containers together, and as she worked she asked, "By the way, what did you whisper to Jesute that made him make that sour face?"

"No jokes or your little minion," Eva replied as she followed Felincia's instructions. Once she was done she took the goggles off and walked across the room. As she walked her leg hit a table. She dropped to the ground and grabbed at her thigh. She hissed in pain hoping it was not what she thought. 'Don't tell me it's broken. Don't tell me my bones are that weak,' she hoped desperately.

"I'm Silas," he introduced himself. "Your Felincia's friend?" he asked just before Evangeline dropped. He looked over at her, holding her knee.
"Are you alright?" he asked. Silas did not know about Eva's condition with hollow bones. "It can't be too bad. Only a table corner," he said walking over to try and help her up.
'Cause I am lost without you

Felincia and Shaishuu almost shoved him out of the way as they started to feel expertly at Eva's leg. "It can be plenty bad with hollow legs," Felincia said. "Think about it."
She stood up. "I think your legs are fine, but I want you to sit down for a while. If the pain continues there's something wrong. Jesute? Where is he - oh, there you are."
Jesute walked in and rolled his eyes. "I've learned to be close to your door. Forms?"
"Not yet, but let Eva sit near your desk. She may need an 'injury in lab' form later, but we don't know if it's worth the trouble yet. I'm going to walk Shaishuu home now. You ready, kid?"

"No!" Eva said thinking of sitting next to Jesute. "I'll be just fine in here," she added working to stand up. "All better," she lied as she used the table to help hold herself up.
"What do you mean 'hollow legs?'" Silas asked looking at Felincia and back at Eva a few times.
Evangeline looked over at Felincia. She had told as few people as possible about her brand new condition. "And don't kick Shaishuu out because I'm a klutz."

"I'm not!" Felincia said, exasperated. "Have you looked outside recently? Or at a clock? It's dinner time at my house. I need to get Shaishuu over there." She looked with concern at Eva. "If you really are fine, do you want to help me walk her over?"

"Sure," Eva replied as she rubbed the tender spot a couple times. She still leaned on the table as she walked, but once it ran out, she managed to continue walking without the support. "I suppose we are coming back here after?" she asked. It was unnecessary though. Generally with Felincia, you worked until you caused a lab explosion or passed out of exhaustion.

"You don't have to come back," Felincia said, "but I will be." Felincia took Shaishuu's hand and left with instructions for Jesute. "I don't expect you'll be here when I get back, so make sure the person on the next shift is capable of forms. I'm going to be experimenting with a new condensed air compressor, and you know what forms that entails. You got any plans for dinner, Eva? Mom's making lasagna this time." Then she spun around, remembering the other person in the lab. "Oh, Silas! Like lasagna?"

Silas nodded and smiled. "Personal favorite," he said. He moved in line next to Felincia, scooting Eva aside a little. She did not mind too much because he looped his arm around her to help support some of her weight. "Thanks," he said to Felincia for inviting him.

"No problem," Felincia muttered, trying to figure out why she had invited him. She could still feel a small amount of tension from him. Why couldn't he be like Jerry? So easy to understand...
Then it hit her. Cats are better at smelling and understanding emotions. So briefly, when they were at her house, she would excuse herself to wash her hands, leave the dining room, slip around the doorway, turn into a cat, and try to understand his emotions from there! It was foolproof!
Suddenly flushed with excitement and generosity, she turned and invited Jesute to dinner, which - thankfully - he declined. Mom might have been mad if she hadn't made enough to feed all of them.
She took Shaishuu in hand and the group of friends set off for her house.

Evangeline was supported by Silas the entire walk there, although, her leg was feeling better by the time they got to the house. "Will your mother mind too much that so many extra people are coming?" Evangeline asked.

Abby hit the ground with a thud as the billy-club slammed across her shoulder. She was hit again in the head before the guards went back to their post. She blinked back the urge to cry. She eventually failed.
With the rate she was crying at she would end up hyperventilating, but she did not care. Her arm hurt, her head hurt and she was alone at the moment. She ripped off the sleeve that hid her long, jagged looking scar. Her shoulder was red and beginning to swell up. She put it against the wall, hoping the cool stone would be sufficient for a while.
And I wonder where these dreams go
When the world gets in your way
What's the point in all this screaming?
No one's listening anyway

 Tram's plan was in place. The werewolves were in the correct positions surrounding the Keeper base. And he was walking up to the labs, where he had been assigned by Keeper Heads to serve his shift.
As he walked in, he passed a boy coming out. The boy must have been a secretary, because a tag labeled "Jesute" was stuck to his sweater. "You've still got your name tag on," Tristram pointed out.
Jesute looked down. "Oh, thanks."
"Want me to throw it on the desk for you?"
"Could you?" Jesute asked as he took the tag off. "Thanks."
This was one of Tram's secrets. Be polite but don't do anything noticeable. Make sure people see you talking to other people so you aren't branded as a suspicious-looking outcast.
Tram threw the name tag on the desk and began walking through the corridors, looking for a way to get to the cells.
In three more hours, his plan would truly begin.

"Not at all," Felincia said. "She seems to be happy that I'm suddenly socializing with humanity. She thinks it will cure me of my love of the lab -" this was what Felincia called her workaholism "- and cure my ineptness." And that was what she called her lack of athletic ability.
When they reached the house it was just as Felincia predicted. Mom set them all at the table and welcomed them warmly - and Mom didn't get warm easily.
What Felincia found funny was her strange interest in Silas. She kept looking at him and then back at her, as if comparing them or putting them together or something. And when she served the lasagna, she gave him a huge helping.
Huh.
Felincia decided to execute her plan. Excusing herself, she left the room to wash her hands. Out of sight, she turned into a cat and concentrated.
She tried listening, smelling, feeling - all the tricks that told her what Jerry felt like. And nothing worked. It took her two minutes to realize why: Felincia wasn't in the room with Silas. So how could she tell how he felt about her if he wasn't thinking about her or being confronted by her?
Disappointed, Felincia turned back into a human and went to wash her hands. She wished he would just stop being so tense.

 Shaishuu was trying really, really hard not to giggle through dinner. Her eyes kept going back and forth from Silas to Felincia, who were sitting on opposite sides of the dinner table. Silas looked nervous and Felincia looked frustrated. Shaishuu stifled a giggle with a bite of lasagna. She remembered a boy in her training class before she died that she had a crush on once. He had even given her a flower - She was distracted as the dinner conversation turned toward the werewolves. "Now that we have their leader," Mrs. Cain was saying, "they'll have to surrender." "Not likely," countered Mr. Cain. "Werewolves are fiercely loyal and would rather die than surrender. Besides, in their opinion, it would be safer to mount a rescue operation than to surrender. If they surrendered, they'd be in no position to prevent any harm from befalling upon their leader."
