"Oh, right. The wiles thing."

"Yes. Womanly wiles and all that."
Skira stepped out of the bushes and looked down her nose at her little underling and the male. "Nienna, what are you doing with that rabble?"

"Hey, I'm not a rabble. I'm a Glitch."

Nienna laughed and kissed his cheek. "Glitch, this is my cousin Skira. She's the one who thinks that I'm ready to be elevated to a god."
Skira rolled her eyes at the show of affection. She'd left the little princess alone too long..."Nienna darling, don't you think that you should come with me for a while? We have so much we need to discuss. Like how to get your father to step aside and let you take over..." Her voice was smooth and silky, full of persuasive tones and urgings. She glanced at Glitch with disapproval. "And besides, a goddess really shouldn't be associating with such common folk, don't you think?"

Glitch glared. "I'm not common," he said defensively. "I'm a prince. Or, well, I would be, if Mom and Dad hadn't left Oz . . ." Glitch said. He didn't like Skira. He didn't quite know why. But Murtaugh had told him he should listen to his instincts, because even though Glitch didn't have much of a brain, his heart was in the right place.

She scoffed, "A prince is hardly good enough for a goddess." She turned her attention back to Nienna, "And had I known you were looking for company instead of that rock...well...I would have been more than happy to have set you up with an appropriate match."
Nienna pouted, "But I think Glitch is appropriate. And he helped me find that dirty old rock."
Skira gasped, "Dirty old rock? How dare you call the thing that will elevate you into power such! And as for your companion..." She turned around, "I think you should return to me when you're ready to become what you were destined to be. As of right now...I can see you are not wholly dedicated to your cause..." She melted back into the woods , silvery white tail billowing after her.

Nienna just stared blankly after Skira. "But...I am ready..." She mumbled weakly.

"To be the next custodian...the keeper of the winds..." She looked down at the ground and closed her eyes, crushed. "I'll have to do something to prove that I'm ready..."

"That sounds all right," Glitch said. Something was still bugging him, though. "But what was the fight about?"
