Oh, those. Johnstone hadn't even heard Jace from his position, but there they went. Now they'd surely be swarmed, which meant Johnstone would of course wait for everyone to clear out safely. It wouldn't take more than a few seconds for everyone to do it, but it would only take a few seconds for the position to be overrun and everyone in it killed.

Nobody was going to die here. Not one single one of those people, not Johnstone. Not today.

Johnstone waited for them, pulse pounding.

There was a lurching feeling in Anolani's entire body, like every part of her was being transferred in a box to the destination then reassembled there.

When she arrived and her head stopped spinning, she was able to confirm that she was next to the Hiveling Queen and a pleased-looking Head of Security.

In the Hiveling tunnels, there was a brief pause followed by the Hivelings surging forward to tear the intruders apart. Jace and Morgan snapped their recall toothpicks and vanished from the tunnels.

Victor slapped himself mentally; of course, the toothpicks. How simple of him to have forgotten.

He watched with satisfaction as Anolani and the queen were whisked away by Cabal magic. He swept his gaze over the room as the Hivelings began to lurch into motion, and carefully observed the magical signature that was left when Jace and Morgan snapped their toothpicks. He would be sure to recognize it again, if he ever had to.

Moving quickly, Victor sank down into the shadows and emerged halfway from the ceiling above. He didn't want to leave, not just yet; the shadows were so wonderfully thick here, and Victor felt so full of energy that he could run for days. He threw a glance over and saw that only he and that Resurrected, Johnstone, remained. A crazy urge filled Victor as he looked at the summoner.

"Up for some chicken, Johnstone?" Victor called as the Hivelings began to swarm up the walls. Suicidal, maybe, but Victor wanted to beat Johnstone. In the meantime, he slipped his hand into his shadow and took hold of his toothpick, which he had stored there for safety. He held it gently between this index and middle fingers, thumb ready to snap it at a moment's notice.

Rose had no interest like Victor's. The job was done, and though she had forgotten the simple teleportation tools, now seemed as good a time as any to use them. Her cheeks flushed slightly at her self-admission, and as she remembered it was the woman she so admired that had had to remind her of them. Removing one gauntlet with the other and thus falling from her perch, she fished swiftly through her clothing, found the device, and snapped it in two. If it planned on transferring her momentum, she was well prepared to land and was not falling fast enough to break any bones.

She hoped.

Regardless, it would be good to be out of the tunnels and in a place where she could remove her fur and thus the greasy bits of chitin trapped in it.

With a lurch, Rose arrived, falling atop Anolani in a twist of fate that surely must have been planned.

Morgan watched intently. Jace glanced at Morgan and placed his head gently within his hand.

Within the tunnels, Victor and Johnstone were either about to have a lot of fun killing the resource they'd been instructed to steal the controls for or were going to get torn apart in short order.

"Miss Anolani!" Rose gasped, her normally lightning-quick reflexes serving only to further embarrass her. She had landed chest-to-chest with the other woman and in her haste to retreat, ended up pawing her bosom significantly. Once finally away, she found herself in a submissive, four-legged crouch for an instant before recovering and swiftly standing up on two human legs, pale-skinned and red-faced. She brushed her hair out of her eyes and saluted to the Head of Security. "Um, Rosetta Franklin, reporting." She flicked her eyes to the Queen and felt the ghost sensation of hair on the back of her neck prickling without her hackles completely rising. The thing made her uneasy, even if it was "defenseless."

Once relieved from her salute and attention, she would immediately begin as humane a self-grooming as she could stand. Hardened, brittle, full of grit, and cold as she could be, she did not, in any way, like the feel of that disgusting ichor on her skin.

Callyx Meridias nodded at Anolani and Rose, violet chitin clacking with the motion. "Death hangs on you both like an untimely frost, the kind that destroys a harvest and starves a city, leaves children crying in the streets over the bodies of their parents." The humanoid Demon-Minor inhaled deeply. "Perhaps I was unfair in my initial judgment. Perhaps, indeed, you are fit reapers to harvest the souls of the weak as you cut them down. It shall remain to be seen."

Machillius joined them moments later, quite determinedly ignoring what his second-in-command had been saying as he inspected his prizes. His appraising gaze lingered on Anolani and Rose, then: "Go clean that off of you. It won't do for you to keep in on you until it rots."

The look in his eyes alone was enough to prove the old adage about those who want power.

Anolani originally wore a satisfied smirk when she saw the Queen. She'd done her job well and everything went smoothly. Nothing can change my mood now. This was apparently the wrong mindset to have because a weight dropped on her with surprising speed. She grunted as her back hit the floor.

"What the--" Hands. On her chest. She looked up to see a blushing Rose merely a few inches from her face. Anolani chose not to say anything else while the two girls disentangled themselves from each other.

Her head stayed down while Callyx spoke. While she didn't salute, her straight back showed that she was paying much attention. She learned her lesson from the first time and kept her facial expressions blank. She didn't change expressions until given permission to leave. Machillius was not someone to anger, and until she learned to prevent Callyx from attacking her, staying on his good side was all she could do.

"Thank you," she said. She walked away as quickly as she could alongside Rose. Once they were sufficiently away, she gave Rose a quick look over. I wonder if I look as dirty. "Bravo out there. You fought very well."

"Chicken? What?" Johnstone asked, spinning around to look at his new ceiling companion, then comprehending and giving him an incredulous look. "No! No, everyone's gotten everyone out of here, they're safe, let's go ahead and follow their example!"

Johnstone threw one last burst of fire downward, pushing himself upward and pushing back any Hivelings, then reached into his jacket and broke the toothpick there, reappearing above the others in a prone position, still with upward momentum that drove him into the ceiling then let him drop back to the floor, chest-first, into a prone position. "Oof," was the only comment he could think to make - he'd really given a bit more effort than he'd thought down in the tunnels, and his Warlock Soul was notably silent. Sitting up, slightly dazed, he looked around, found the queen, and saw the two young women going off together - no casualties, mission accomplished. There had been no truly honorable combat, but Johnstone was not so blind as to believe the world still revolved around that concept. Valor, however, had won the day, and he and his squad had done glorious battle and achieved their goal without losing a single man. So very few people were that lucky - casualties in war were a given. Today they had done well. Very well.

Victor grinned solemnly to himself. He was the last to leave. It would be a real shame, leaving all this beautiful darkness and Unreality behind. Hey, these bugs were without a Queen... maybe Victor could somehow take control of them and -

One of the bugs launched an attack that struck the ceiling near him. Nope, too close. I'm out.

Victor snapped his tooth pick with a hearty laugh, emerging alongside the others in the lobby with the second half of his throaty mirth still leaving his mouth. Seeing the presence of the leaders of his little band, Victor's laugh trailed into a sort of groan, then ended with the clearing of his throat.

"Mission accomplished, hey?" he asked, somewhat awkwardly.
